BeyondPFAS offers a full array of services for PFAS mitigation and management from detection to disposal, allowing customers to take control of their PFAS responsibilitiesVeolia’s next generation of PFAS management solutions serves industries and municipalities by detecting, treating and disposing of regulated PFAS compounds in water and waste

BOSTON, October 18, 2024 /3BL/ – Veolia North America, the leading provider of environmental solutions in the U.S. and Canada, today expands its PFAS treatment and compliance capabilities with the launch of its BeyondPFAS offering, combining Veolia’s proven technical capability in PFAS treatment and disposal with its skill in helping customers navigate regulatory requirements and identify funding resources. This unique combination of engineering, managerial, operational, technological and regulatory expertise provides Veolia’s customers with a one-stop shop for PFAS services, offering peace of mind about PFAS issues and allowing them to enhance and take control of their efforts to mitigate risk and maintain public trust in water sources.

BeyondPFAS is the most advanced end-to-end PFAS management solution on the market, designed to support businesses and governments confronted with new regulatory and legal requirements for designated PFAS compounds encountered in their operations. As a pioneer in the treatment of pollutants in drinking water, soil and hazardous waste, Veolia is a key player across the entire value chain, from detection to complete disposal. By combining the skills of its water, waste and energy businesses worldwide, Veolia can act from the earliest stages of detecting pollutants to ensure their effective treatment and sustainable disposal.

With almost 15,000 employees in North America and decades of operational experience implementing complex technology solutions, Veolia works across traditional business boundaries to sample for regulated PFAS compounds, engineer the best individualized solutions, put them into operation at scale, and manage the secure handling and disposal of regulated PFAS compounds removed from water, waste and other sources.

Estelle Brachlianoff, Veolia’s Chief Executive Officer said, “The PFAS offer is a perfect illustration of Veolia’s value creation model. It was made possible by our ability to combine all our expertise across the entire pollution treatment value chain. This is the most comprehensive end-to-end offering on the market, combining our skills in diagnostics, water treatment and waste management, providing a complete, innovative and best value for money solution to this major environmental challenge.”

Veolia North America CEO Frédéric Van Heems said, “Veolia is a global leader in PFAS treatment with a full array of solutions across the spectrum of PFAS, and our BeyondPFAS effort marks an evolution in our ability to provide our customers with the end-to-end solutions they need. BeyondPFAS’ tailored approach helps you streamline implementation, optimize costs, minimize risks and secure long-term operational efficiency. America’s PFAS challenges are still emerging, and Veolia is here to help America face them.”

Proven PFAS capabilities for treatment and management

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are found everywhere in our environment. Some of them are a pressing environmental and public health concern, impacting drinking water supplies, ecosystems and communities globally. Whether in water, soil, waste or solids, these compounds pose significant challenges, from widespread contamination to complex treatment requirements and disposal considerations — all in the context of evolving regulations.

Veolia provides drinking water to more than 9 million people across the United States and is in the forefront of the fight against PFAS. It has treated more than 24 billion gallons of water for PFAS at more than 30 sites, with dozens more under construction or in planning. Veolia moved quickly to develop evaluation, measurement and treatment plans for water systems it owns and operates across six states, launching PFAS mitigation systems in many cases before any regulatory requirement to do so took effect.

Veolia also operates and maintains 80 drinking water systems across the country on behalf of municipalities and is helping many of them evaluate and make their own decisions to address new regulatory requirements for PFAS mitigation. The BeyondPFAS solution encompasses lessons Veolia has learned from planning and implementing these systems across dozens of drinking water systems, providing readiness for public water systems seeking a full-capability provider.

The BeyondPFAS suite of offerings is also ready for industries and businesses confronting the challenge of regulated PFAS compounds in their water supplies, work processes or waste streams. It streamlines Veolia’s offerings with a holistic approach from initial site assessment and sampling, to implementation of tailored treatment technologies, through proper handling and disposing of contaminants in line with current EPA-recommended methods such as incineration, deep well injection and secured, approved landfills.

Veolia’s innovative disposal solutions to meet compliance requirements and safeguard environmental interests include secure landfilling and deep well injection. Veolia’s state-of-the-art high-temperature incineration facility in Port Arthur, Texas is permitted to treat a range of hazardous and CERCLA waste, and has a destruction and removal efficiency of 99.9999%. All Veolia solutions are scientifically proven and fully EPA-compliant.

As science and the public continue to learn more about PFAS compounds, Veolia’s BeyondPFAS offering will become a key part of the company’s strategy to bolster its leading role in addressing the world’s ecological problems. It also exemplifies the goals of Veolia’s global GreenUp strategy, which strives to lead the ecological transformation of the planet by accelerating water quality improvement, hazardous waste treatment and disposal, decarbonization and technological innovation.

Over the past 29 years, my time with Quest Diagnostics in St. Louis, Missouri, has been more than just a job, but like a second home to me.

I first came to the company in 1995, when it was then Smith Kline Beecham, and worked as a Specimen Processor with many duties. In that role, I was a member of the ‘Late Team’ whose primary task was locating what could sometimes be hundreds of specimens that needed to be tracked down from the manifest. I believe this role gave me the skills that led to my current position as a driver for the Logistics team and even recently winning an employee recognition award almost 30 years later.

In 2002, I became an independent courier and served as a swing driver exclusively for Quest for 11 years. In this position, I ran routes in parts of 4 states almost always ‘blind’ (slang term for no training) and at a moment’s notice. In late 2012, I became a regular route driver which I continue to do today. My experiences as a swing driver prepared me to be a full-time courier, including one incident where I discovered more than 200 specimens after getting a cancellation notice for a stop. I knew to still check the location, and there were patient samples, despite being told to skip that stop.

Quest has done a lot for my growth potential, both as a man and as a parent. When I first started, I was still a kid as far as maturity goes. My supervisors were always patient with me; they allowed me to make mistakes and grow from them. It’s a pleasure for me to do my job every day, and my real family has also been a part of my Quest family. My aunt has been a microbiologist for 35 years, my mother was a courier for 10 years, and my wife has been a phlebotomist for 2 years. It’s the people here who make it a pleasure to serve. They deserve a lot of the credit for me being here today. And knowing that we are helping patients make a difference in their lives can be very inspiring.

For others who may want to work here, it can be a great opportunity. Always remember that first and foremost, we are working for a patient whose test is on the line. That lifeline is what sets us apart from other companies. My best advice is to learn and understand the ‘big picture’ and how your role supports that. It has been an honor to be here for 29 years. I only hope I can be fortunate to serve 29 more. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.

In September — honoring Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Awareness Month — My Special Aflac Duck® found its way to New York City, delivering smiles to pediatric cancer and sickle cell patients at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein in the Bronx.

In partnership with Sunrise Day Camp, Aflac also gave these children and their families a day of fun activities, including arts and crafts — where they created beaded bracelets and birth certificates for their new cuddly companions — coloring pages, and of course, duck-themed snacks.

My Special Aflac Duck is a social robot powered by innovative technology that helps kids prepare for medical procedures, communicate their feelings, practice distraction techniques and more. A recent three-year study revealed that both parents and caregivers reported a reduction in distress, nausea, pain and treatment — and procedural anxiety — for their children who received My Special Aflac Duck, compared to those in the study who had not yet received a duck.

Since the first duck delivery in 2018, Aflac has placed more than 32,000 My Special Aflac Ducks in the hands of pediatric cancer and sickle cell patients ages 3 and up free of charge, providing comfort and joy during their treatment journeys. The My Special Aflac Duck program is a hallmark of Aflac’s more than $184 million given toward pediatric cancer and blood disorder research and programs, including support of the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Health care providers, support organizations and families can order My Special Aflac Duck free of charge for children 3 years or older who have been diagnosed with cancer or sickle cell disease at MySpecialAflacDuck.com.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do here at GoDaddy.

Hi, I’m Marc and I work as a Senior Marketing Manager at GoDaddy. I’m originally from Cologne, Germany. Although I love travelling and experiencing life in different countries, Cologne will always be my home. My journey with GoDaddy started eight years ago. At that time, I was a working student at Host Europe while writing my Master’s thesis. Host Europe was part of the HEG Group, which was acquired by GoDaddy in 2016. Since then, I’ve held various roles in local and global product marketing for different brands. Right now I’m focused on the German market. What I love most about my job is the variety and excitement – it’s never boring and there’s always something new to tackle.

What real-life problems does your team solve?

In product marketing, my team acts as a bridge between different departments such as marketing, product management and sales/care. Our main job is to ensure that information flows smoothly between these departments, while keeping our customers’ needs at the forefront. This means writing detailed briefings for marketing campaigns, helping to launch new products and trying to understand what the local market needs so that we can adapt our products accordingly. At the moment, I am focusing on three different brands within the German market. The fun and challenging part is tailoring our strategies to meet the unique needs of our customers.

What has driven your growth most through your career?

Empathy, good people skills, and clear communication have been key to my career growth. As I link different departments, it’s important to maintain good relationships and understand what each person needs. In product marketing, we work with people who have different levels of knowledge – from beginners to experts. So, it is important to explain things clearly and simply. It makes teamwork easier and more efficient. Understanding and meeting the needs of different departments helps to create a positive and productive working environment, which has been essential for my professional development.

What advice would you give to an individual who is interested in a career in Product Marketing?

You should always seek learning opportunities. The role of a Product Marketing Manager (PMM) isn’t something you learn at university, and new ideas come up all the time. Think from the customer’s perspective: if something isn’t clear to you, it’s likely to be even more confusing to them. When that happens, dig deeper until you understand it completely. And remember, it’s okay not to know everything. That’s why you work with experts. The great thing about this job is that you’re always learning something new, which keeps things interesting.

How do you feel that the organization supports you to do things that are important to you?

GoDaddy offers amazing flexibility through its remote work options, which is great for balancing my personal and professional life. I have colleagues all over the world – from Australia to America. Being able to work from different locations means I can travel and work at the same time. Working with people from different cultures enriches my life and makes the world feel smaller and more connected.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I like to spend time with family and friends. I like to play football (soccer) and volleyball, and I also like group activities like cooking. These activities help me relax. When I have more time, I like to travel with my wife. We enjoy discovering new cultures and soaking up the sun, especially to escape the cold and wet winters in Germany. Travelling helps recharge my batteries, gain new perspectives, and generate fresh ideas.

Chemours Belgium has launched a three-year partnership with Technopolis, the Flemish science and technology discovery center. The collaboration is officially sealed in the presence of local authorities and Chemours’ President & CEO Denise Dignam, who is visiting Belgium specifically for this occasion.

“Our collaboration with Technopolis provides a unique opportunity to inspire and engage more young people with STEM at a time when demand for these skills is high, but the number of students in STEM fields is low,” said Denise Dignam, President & CEO of Chemours. “We want to introduce students, regardless of their background, to the possibilities of science and technology and encourage them to explore the world of STEM. Our partnership with Technopolis makes that a hands-on reality for local students.”

Chemours will sponsor class visits to Technopolis, allowing students from Mechelen and the surrounding area to participate in exciting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities at no cost. Additionally, Chemours will contribute to the development of new interactive exhibits and experiments designed to spark young people’s interest in science and technology.

The need for more STEM investments

The shortage of STEM professionals in Flanders is growing, as highlighted by the STEM-monitor 2024. The share of STEM education in secondary schools has fallen to 37%, while Flanders aims to reach 40% by the 2030-2031 school year. Furthermore, the proportion of girls in STEM remains far below the 20% target for 2030-2031, with just 6.4% in vocational education and 13.7% in technical education. Chemours aims to improve these figures by making STEM more accessible and is investing in this partnership with Technopolis to inspire young people and reduce barriers to STEM education.

Diversity and inclusion as key focus areas

Chemours is committed to making STEM education more accessible to young people from under-resourced and under-represented backgrounds. In fact, by 2030, Chemours has set a goal to invest $50 million in communities where it operates to improve lives by increasing access to STEM skills and other key programming. Partnering with organizations like Technopolis, alongside Chemours’ school partner and scholarship programming, will meaningful contribute to advancing a more equitable and diverse future STEM workforce.

Collaboration with local school

To celebrate the launch of the new partnership, Chemours has invited students from Technische Scholen Mechelen (a Chemours’ ChemFEST partner school) to be the first to participate in the Technopolis workshops under the partnership.

“The presence of students at this launch demonstrates the value of involving them in practical learning experiences at a young age,” added Ferdy Onink, Plant Manager of Chemours Mechelen. “We want to show them that a career in STEM is not only exciting but also accessible to everyone.”

CNH’s cutting-edge computer vision and machine learning (CVML) technology is empowering sustainable farming.

The world-class, equipment, technology and services company is committed to sustainably advancing the noble work of farmers everywhere. In the fifth installment of CNH’S ‘A Sustainable Year’ series they look at how real time crop analysis supports sustainability and the technology that uses this data to boost efficiency, reduce waste and increase profit.

The 2023 acquisition of machine vision company, Augmenta, enabled CNH to offer sense and act application technology to their customers. It lets them manage their crops more effectively without needing to sort through complex data to decide how much of an input (i.e., fertilizer) to apply in the field.

The article also includes an interview with Dr. Ajay Sharda, Director of Research at the Institute for Digital Agriculture and Advances Analytics at Kansas State University, USA. He talks about the biggest challenges to crop protection facing the sector, how to best meet those challenges and the role technology needs to play in doing so.

CINCINNATI, October 17, 2024 /3BL/ – As Florida begins to rebuild from Hurricane Milton’s impact, the Fifth Third Foundation is proud to announce a $250,000 commitment to local nonprofit organizations as they provide care, comfort and support to local communities.

“It’s not just our responsibility as a good corporate citizen to respond in times of crisis, but it’s also our responsibility as a good neighbor,” said Kala Gibson, chief corporate responsibility officer for Fifth Third. “We live and work in the communities where Hurricane Milton paved its path. Supporting our Fifth Third family and the communities we serve is at the core of what we do, and we will continue to search for meaningful opportunities to help those in need.”

In addition to the $250,000 commitment, Fifth Third will also be deploying the Fifth Third Bank Financial Empowerment Mobile, commonly known as the eBus to Florida communities including Sarasota, Venice and Wesley Chapel to bring financial access, social services and financial education resources to those in need.

“It’s been an emotional journey over the past couple of weeks as we had to pause one hurricane recovery to prepare for another one,” said Cary Putrino, North Florida region president for Fifth Third. “From employees helping each other hang hurricane shutters ahead of the storm to the resources and assistance provided after the storm, I’m proud of the way our team has responded and shown up for each other across the state and across the Bank. Together, we are Florida and Fifth Third Strong.”

“Hurricanes Helene and Milton have brought devastation to many of our communities across the country, but it has been during this time where I have seen our close-knit team step up to support each other and the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Green, South Florida region president for Fifth Third. “We ensured that leading up and following the storm, our customers’ financial needs were met. Behind the scenes, our entire network ensured that we, as employees, were taken care of.

Combating human trafficking

American has long been committed to combating human trafficking, modern slavery and child exploitation. We conduct mandatory human trafficking awareness training for our frontline, customer-facing team members — including flight attendants, pilots and airport customer service representatives. This training is required for new hires and as part of our recurrent training programs. We also provide modern slavery training developed by TRACE International for team members with international purchasing responsibilities. Vigilance is key in fighting human trafficking and modern slavery, and we stand ready to help. Our team regularly updates our reporting and security processes with the latest information and best practices.

American has received recognition for our efforts, including a Pro Bono Service Award from the U.S. Government’s Legal Services Corporation in January 2024. Nominated by Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, we were praised for our role in “establishing and scaling a collaboration to help survivors of human trafficking obtain expungements and resolve other life-altering civil legal problems.”

Our collaboration with government agencies, industry partners and nongovernmental organizations is an essential component of our human trafficking prevention program. For example, our Vice President at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport sits on the Governor’s Council to Combat Human Trafficking in Arizona. The Council addresses human trafficking in the state through strategic and targeted human trafficking prevention and awareness efforts.

Our partners in American’s effort to combat human trafficking include the following:

PACT

This nonprofit works to protect every child’s right to grow up free from child sexual exploitation and trafficking, through education, legislative advocacy and partnerships. American is a signatory to the PACT Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct. We have also donated AAdvantage® miles that will enable members of PACT’s Survivors’ Council to participate in meetings with members of Congress and other elected officials to share their expertise and recommendations to improve trafficking prevention legislation and policies. These individuals can also travel to legislative advocacy and community education events to tell their stories. Learn more about PACT.

It’s a Penalty

This organization combats human trafficking, exploitation and abuse through educational campaigns during major sporting events around the globe. Through its work, It’s a Penalty has helped protect more than 17,000 survivors of abuse, exploitation and trafficking, and prevented the victimization of many more.

Our team members have volunteered their time by joining It’s a Penalty’s latest Las Vegas Super Bowl campaign launch and supporting its advocacy efforts. American also promoted the organization’s mission on our seatback and wireless entertainment platforms during the first two months of 2024. As with PACT, we have donated AAdvantage® miles to help facilitate trainings, awareness sessions and other initiatives that can benefit from air travel. Learn more about It’s a Penalty.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Blue Campaign

This national public awareness effort educates the public, law enforcement and industry partners about human trafficking. In early 2024, American’s Professional Women in Aviation Employee Business Resource Group hosted human trafficking awareness sessions with either DHS or other partners at the following six locations: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and London Heathrow Airport. Learn more about the DHS Blue Campaign.

New Friends New Life (NFNL)

This Dallas-based organization works to restore and empower formerly trafficked teenage girls and sexually exploited women and their children. According to NFNL research, Texas ranks second in the country for trafficking prevalence, with more than 300,000 victims annually statewide. By providing access to education, job training, financial assistance and mental health support, NFNL helps women and their children overcome backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty and limited opportunities. NFNL also joined American at DFW to train team members on signs of human trafficking and how to prevent it. Learn more about NFNL.

Texas Businesses Against Trafficking

This public-private awareness and prevention initiative is led by the Texas Secretary of State. Learn more about Texas Businesses Against Trafficking.

Our Legal team oversees the company’s compliance with applicable domestic and international modern slavery and human trafficking laws. In June 2023, we published the annual update of American’s Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement to comply with the United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 and Australia’s Modern Slavery Act 2018.

“As the airline representative on the Governor’s Council to Combat Human Trafficking in Arizona, I know American can lend a unique perspective to the fight against trafficking. The council is a prime example of how collaboration between the public and private sectors can help us reach our collective goals.”
