OAKLAND, Calif., April 8, 2025 /3BL/ – Sustainability is facing an unprecedented confluence of political, economic, social, technological and environmental forces that are disrupting the profession and urgently require a new approach to events and collaborative problem solving. Trellis Group (formerly GreenBiz Group) is launching Trellis Impact 25, providing attendees access to three leading conferences in one location to accelerate innovative solutions to our planet’s biggest challenges. Trellis Impact 25 brings together VERGE, Bloom, and GreenFin and will be held October 28-30, 2025, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA.

  • Bloom convenes leaders and innovators driving cutting-edge tools, business strategies, and partnerships to protect and regenerate nature.
  • GreenFin equips professionals with strategies to harness the power of capital for the transition to a clean economy.

“Rather than tackle each sustainability challenge individually, we believe it can be more impactful to address them in concert,” said Eric Faurot, CEO of Trellis Group, “And that by doing so we can help unlock newfound synergies and business opportunities thereby accelerating positive impact.”

Approaching its 25th anniversary, Trellis Group is the trailblazer and leader in sustainability events, digital media, and networks. Since its inception, sustainability has experienced constant flux and weathered numerous periods of challenge and change. The current moment is marked by headwinds that threaten to disrupt innovation and distract from the profession’s goal of driving impact. Sustainability is also facing a contraction, layoffs, and a proliferation of events that are seen as decentralized and performative. Trellis Impact 25 helps sustainability teams with efficiency by cutting down on travel and creating a center of gravity to address decarbonization, climate tech, biodiversity, and the finance to pay for it all, under one roof.

“I want to congratulate [Trellis] on this move, since I think it is not only a smart business decision but helps create a more collaborative and unified climate movement – which is so important at this time. TEMPE, Ariz. and PRAGUE, April 8, 2025 /3BL/ – Sextortion scams are becoming more common – and more threatening – as cybercriminals exploit artificial intelligence (AI) and large-scale data breaches to develop highly convincing and personalized scams. A recent analysis by Avast, a leader in digital security and privacy and part of Gen (NASDAQ: GEN), found that in 2025 so far, the risk of being targeted with sextortion scams in the U.S. has risen 137%.

“Sextortion victims frequently receive threatening messages claiming access to their private videos and images. These scams are made even more convincing with the use of stolen passwords from past data breaches, lending an alarming sense of credibility,” said Michal Salat, Threat Intelligence Director for Avast. “Fear of exposure, especially when personal details appear accurate, often pressures victims into complying with ransom demands. However, we strongly advise against engaging with these scammers, no matter how real the threats may seem.”

New Threatening and Intrusive Tactics
Criminals are refining their tactics, thanks to the help of AI and a wealth of personal data available from recent large-scale breaches. As the sophistication of AI increases, so do the explicit extortion emails, texts and calls from scammers. AI is being used by scammers to create ‘deepfake’ images, fake explicit photos created by superimposing a victim’s face onto another body, coupled with threatening messages to distribute them.

One of the latest techniques used by cybercriminals leverages Google Maps to create a more invasive and personal approach that can really shock and intimidate a victim into complying with their demands.

Criminals – utilizing names, addresses, and emails readily available on the Dark Web due to data breaches – can create very targeted emails to victims containing fabricated footage and unsettling information and images of their real homes. Scammers will also claim to have gained access to victims’ devices to extort their victims by threatening to share sexual content or information about them. Cybersecurity experts at Avast have identified over 15,000 unique Bitcoin wallets associated with the Google Maps scams, though the scope of the operation is likely much larger.

Avast experts emphasize the importance of proactive protection against sextortion scams and urge people to never engage with messages that could be from scammers. The following actions help to combat sextortion efforts:

  • Do not pay ransom demands or respond to threats.
  • Do not engage with these emails, texts or calls or open any associated PDF attachments.
  • Always report such crimes to the relevant cybercrime units. In the US victims can reach out to the FBI or the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)
  • Use a reputable password manager to ensure unique passwords for all accounts and prevent reuse.
  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible to enhance account security.
  • Monitor your data for breaches by using dark web monitoring services, through products such as Avast Secure Identity, to be alerted when personal information is exposed so you can act quickly to help protect your accounts.
  • Do not panic – stay informed and take action to secure your accounts.

As sextortion scams become more advanced, it is crucial for individuals to remain cautious and take steps to safeguard their digital privacy. Public awareness and vigilance remain critical in combatting these threats.

International Olympic Committee news

For International Women’s Day 2025, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is promoting grassroots initiatives across the Olympic Movement that provide women and girls with the opportunity to access and benefit from sport. One such example is the Turkish Olympic Committee’s “Empowering Girls Through Sport” project, which has been making a profound difference to girls aged from 10 to 14 since its launch in 2021, with approximately 1,500 participants so far.

Supported by the IOC through the Olympic Solidarity Olympic Values programme, the grassroots programme provides year-round access to sport to girls in three of Türkiye’s disadvantaged cities – Gaziantep, Şanliurfa and Diyarbakir – which have low school attendance rates for girls, particularly after middle school, and where children’s participation in sport is low.

In total, four sports schools have been set up in these cities to provide expert coaching in seven Olympic sports, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, handball, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball. The Turkish Olympic Committee, with the support of Olympic Solidarity, funds all the costs for the project – from clothes and equipment to gym renovations and cleaning.

We started the project to contribute to the physical, mental and social development of our girls through sport. We wanted to strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem and support them to continue their education.

Nese Gundogan Turkish Olympic Committee Secretary General

Evidence indicates that the programme is already having a significant impact, with 61.5 per cent of participants having improved their academic performance after taking part in the project, and 96.7 per cent having expressed a strong desire to pursue higher education. The findings also highlight the project’s role in changing gender perceptions within communities, and increasing parental awareness of the benefits of girls’ involvement in sport.

Drawing inspiration from strong role models

Empowering Girls Through Sport is not just providing a safe environment for the girls, but also inspiring them. Among the prominent athletes supporting the project is Eda Erdem, captain of the women’s national volleyball team and Chair of the Turkish Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission and Executive Board member. A three-time Olympian, she plays a key role in advocating for the project’s mission.

One participant said: “I’ve been so happy since I joined the school. I love spending time with my friends and our coaches. I want to become an athlete like Eda Erdem one day.”

Erdem believes the programme will increase the participants’ self-confidence: “When they continue their lives as strong women in the future, they will say, ‘I’m glad I played volleyball or handball back then.’”

Badminton player Aliye Demirbağ, who represented Türkiye at the Youth Olympic Games Nanjing 2014, is another athlete who has joined the project to inspire children. “I hope these girls will not give up on their dreams and turn them into reality in the future,” she says.

Many of the girls taking part in the project now aspire to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Erdem and Demirbağ, with more than 75 per cent of survey participants stating they had formed dreams relating to professional sports careers.

Some of the participants have already gone on to achieve significant success on the field of play, for example winning provincial school championships with the Diyarbakir badminton team and Şanliurfa basketball team.

Long-term commitment

Coaches play a big role in helping the girls achieve their dreams, too. They are carefully selected and work diligently to provide more than just sports training. They are also seen as mentors, providing guidance on life matters to the girls, and their impact is hugely positive, with students giving them an average score of 4.9 out of 5.

Those closely associated with Empowering Girls Through Sport have noticed positive physical and emotional developments in girls, and stress the importance of preserving the project for the children’s ongoing development.

“Imagine you plant a tree,” a coach explains. “You water it, nurture it and care for it over two years. If it doesn’t bear fruit, you might decide to cut it down. But what if it was meant to bear fruit in three years? By cutting it too soon, you prevent it from reaching its full potential. The same applies to this project – its continuation or discontinuation will profoundly impact the children.”

The Turkish Olympic Committee is not only committed to its continuation but is actively looking to expand the programme in cities with similar demographics and challenges.

#SportForAllWomenAndGirls

Olympic Solidarity’s Olympic Values programme provides assistance to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to put in place initiatives that empower communities by allowing them to engage in and benefit from sport and Olympism, while creating conditions for athletes to thrive. They also build on the IOC’s Olympism365 strategy to enhance the contribution of sport within the framework of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

With the continued efforts of the IOC, NOCs, International Federations and Olympism365-driven programmes, more opportunities are being created every day for women and girls to engage in and benefit from sport.

Cummins

Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), and key technology partners have celebrated the completion of a joint project to develop hydrogen internal combustion engine technology for commercial vehicles.

Cummins led a consortium of technology companies; Johnson Matthey, PHINIA and Zircotec in ‘Project Brunel’, to successfully deliver a 6.7-litre hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2-ICE) for medium-duty trucks and buses. The project was match-funded by UK Government, and facilitated by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC).

Together, the project partners developed a hydrogen internal combustion engine concept based on Cummins’ proven spark-ignited engine platform. Underpinned by new hydrogen fuel injection technology from PHINIA, after-treatment catalyst and advanced metals chemistry development from Johnson Matthey, and hydrogen barrier coatings from Zircotec, Project Brunel has delivered significant improvements in H2-ICE engine performance and durability.

Using zero-carbon hydrogen fuel and equipped with an after-treatment system, the 6.7-litre engine delivers a more than 99% reduction in tailpipe carbon emissions and ultra-low NOx, compared to the current diesel engine standard (Euro VI). Hydrogen internal combustion engine technology is widely seen as a viable path to reducing the air quality impact of heavier-duty or longer-range applications.

Jonathan Atkinson, Executive Director – Product Strategy at Cummins, said:

“Project Brunel highlights the power of collaboration between industry leaders and underscores our ongoing commitment to industry decarbonisation. This project has successfully delivered a viable, familiar power option that meets the operating requirements of today’s commercial vehicles – with zero-carbon fuel, and without the need for a complete vehicle redesign. This is a major achievement for Cummins Darlington, and for the UK’s hydrogen technology leadership. We hope the Government recognises this technology’s potential for commercial vehicles beyond 2035 and 2040, to align regulation with other major global markets.”

At an event held today at Cummins’ Darlington, UK facility, Cummins, Johnson Matthey, PHINIA and Zircotec presented key learnings and discussed how H2-ICE technology can meet the efficiency, performance and carbon emissions reductions required to accelerate the decarbonisation of commercial vehicles.

Matt Shillito, Senior Project Delivery Lead, the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC), said:

“Project Brunel has built on the UK’s already world-leading capability in manufacturing engines and associated systems and has shown how this industry sector and the skilled jobs it supports can evolve to provide new solutions using zero-carbon hydrogen fuel. These products together can help accelerate the decarbonisation journey for vehicle operators.

The project investment from the Department for Business and Trade, delivered through the APC, offered a significant opportunity for the UK to create a high-value H2-ICE manufacturing base and a competitive export business. It has been a pleasure working with the consortium on this project, and we look forward to seeing success in the market for all the partners.”

Tauseef Salma, Chief Technology Officer – Clean Air at Johnson Matthey, said:

“H2-ICE is a ready to go, near net zero option in the powertrain toolbox to decarbonise the medium and heavy-duty transport sector. JM proudly pioneered automotive emissions control catalysts and has since invested decades of research and development into minimising harmful pollutants that enter the atmosphere. We are proud to have applied this expertise in Project Brunel which demonstrates how the industry can come together to increase the commercial viability of H2-ICE technology.”

Dr. Simon Godwin, Vice President of Government Affairs at PHINIA, commented:

“Project Brunel has enabled us to accelerate the development of hydrogen injectors by cooperation with industry peers and by leveraging our own investment with government support. The project strengthens the UK ecosystem for hydrogen combustion engines and promotes the development and manufacture of this important decarbonisation technology in the UK.”

While the 6.7-litre engine was developed for medium-duty vehicles, the design is scalable to heavy-duty applications, including non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) such as construction and agricultural equipment. Cummins is already developing a 15-litre hydrogen internal combustion engine for heavy-duty vehicles.

Cummins recently invested more than £13 million in a new Powertrain Test Facility at its Darlington Campus, which expands the company’s test capabilities to include full powertrains powered by advanced diesel, natural gas, hydrogen and battery electric technologies for multiple industries.

SAN ANTONIO, April 7, 2025 /3BL/ – Official NCAA® Corporate Partner LG Electronics USA is building on its commitment to supporting student well-being by partnering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and providing support to the host schools of the 2025 NCAA Final Four® Men’s and Women’s college basketball tournaments.

During this year’s Final Four – dovetailing with the NCAA’s focus on student-athlete’s’ mental health – LG is awarding $10,000 each to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio and the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Fla., to bolster their local on-campus NAMI clubs and enhance mental health resources for students.

“Creating a supportive environment for mental health and well-being is paramount,” said Chris Jung, President and CEO of LG Electronics North America. “Through our partnership with NAMI and support for these universities, we aim to provide tangible resources that will help foster students’ mental wellness.”

LG’s support will enable each university’s NAMI On-Campus Club to expand its programming, increase awareness of mental health resources and provide peer support for students facing challenges. In addition, the schools will receive LG’s award-winning refrigerators for their student meeting spaces.

“As a former college athlete, I know how powerful it is to have a community that’s got your back—on and off the court,” said NAMI CEO Dan Gillison Jr. “That’s why I’m so grateful for LG’s partnership and their deep commitment to student mental health.

“With their support, we’re helping launch NAMI On Campus Clubs in the tournament host cities San Antonio and Tampa – creating space for students and student athletes to connect, learn, and lean on one another,” said Gillison. “Moments like the Final Four remind us that supporting mental health is a team effort – and with LG on our team, we’re building something that lasts far beyond the game.”

UTSA is committed to providing students with “the resources they need to overcome barriers to their personal and professional success,” according USTA Dean of Students LT Robinson, Senior Vice Provost for Student Affair. “LG’s support will be a game-changer in our efforts to ensure that all students receive well-being support throughout their academic journey,” she said.

Dr. Kevin Milligan, UIW’s Director of Behavioral Health Services, echoed her sentiments: “We’re so grateful for LG’s commitment to mental health. This will help us create a more supportive campus community and bring greater awareness to mental health and the resources available to students.”

“Mental health is a vital part of overall health. In fact, mental health is a health, safety and performance strategic priority of the NCAA, endorsed by the NCAA Board of Governors,” said Dr. Deena Casiero, Chief Medical Officer of the NCAA.

NCAA Mental Health Best Practices, which provide member schools with guidance for supporting student-athlete mental health, highlight the importance of creating healthy environments that promote well-being. “This collaboration between LG and NAMI will support NCAA member school efforts to foster mental health promoting environments. We are grateful to LG and NAMI for their commitment to student-athlete mental health,” Dr. Casiero added.

LG’s 2025 Final Four initiatives further strengthen LG’s ongoing dedication to championing mental health awareness and resources for student-athletes and the broader campus community.

For example, nominations for the 2025 LG Life’s Good Coaches Award will begin later this month. These annual awards recognize NCAA coaches who foster mental health awareness and create supportive environments for their student-athletes.
