Women make up almost half of the global workforce, yet they account for less than a third of all tech workers.[1] Despite cultural shifts and industry initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in tech, this gender gap has persisted for decades. A new research report from the #WomenWhoMaster movement led by Logitech’s Master Series, “What Is Needed to Achieve Equality in Tech?”, reveals barriers and solutions for bridging this gap across three of the world’s largest economies — China, India, and the U.S.

The tech gender gap manifests differently across these three countries, shaped by various underlying factors. This research not only highlights persistent obstacles women face, but also identifies key strategies for driving change. It uncovers three essential actions to accelerate a global breakthrough in tech equality:

  1. Tackle Microaggressions and Isolation
Microaggressions, including sexist remarks and exclusion by male colleagues, remain a significant challenge, with 25% of women considering leaving tech altogether due to these experiences. The report advocates creating diverse and supportive workplaces, inclusive policies, and fostering allyship among male colleagues.
  2. Encourage Early, Inspire Often
Early encouragement from parents and teachers is essential for women deciding to enter tech fields, while role models play a crucial role in sparking interest. Looking ahead, teacher training, parent education programs, and the promotion of female role models can provide consistent inspiration and early encouragement to girls considering tech careers.
  3. Ignite Interests, Build Community, and Provide Opportunities
Around 40% of women in all three countries say either passion or aptitude was the reason they started their journey in computer science. However, lack of access to technology and isolation during studies or professional lives can impact their success. This underscores the importance of providing early access to technology, integrating real-world applications into tech education, and creating supportive spaces so that women can discover their skills and interests.

To activate the full potential of the global workforce, we must understand women’s experiences and challenge the barriers that limit their success. This landmark research will promote that goal, equipping industry leaders, governments, and educators to collaborate on a better future.

This report builds on insights from the Logitech MX 2022 survey of women in tech in the U.S. Logitech and IPSOS surveyed 320 women and 320 men in India and China who have been working for 10 years or less as developers (computer programmers, web developers, front- and back-end developers, full-stack developers, application and systems software developers, and software engineers).

Volunteers at CNH’s India Technology Center are coaching students experiencing poverty to boost their confidence, professional skills and employability.

In India, as in much of the world, the promise of education is profound. It is often regarded as a bridge to new possibilities, helping individuals rise above social and economic barriers. But the relationship between education and social mobility is complex. Students who are facing economic hardship often struggle at university.

The engineers at CNH’s India Technology Center (ITC), one of the largest R&D centers in the Company’s global network, wanted to make a difference to the academic and life outcomes of such students. In 2023, they launched Project Margdarshan (“guidance” in Hindi), a mentorship program for engineering students who are facing economic hardship. Now in its third edition, the program involves nine hours of one-to-one mentoring over the course of a year. The goal is to build the self-confidence of mentees, with coaching sessions devoted to developing communication and presentation skills, polishing CVs and conducting mock job interviews. Forty students and forty ITC volunteers took part during the 2023-24 academic year, and 45 mentees are taking part during 2024-25. The selection of mentees for the 2025-26 academic year is under way.

At Covia, we’re dedicated to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that support our customers and community. This year, Covia proudly celebrates the 125th anniversary of a facility that has stood the test of time and continues to set the standard in kaolin clay mining through its legacy of excellence, innovation, and commitment to people.

A Rich History Rooted in Georgia

Situated just south of Augusta, Hephzibah lies along Georgia’s fall line. This geological boundary is notable because it was a prehistoric shoreline that fell between the mountains and the ocean. Because of the ancient beachfront, the region holds the special distinction of being the only place where kaolin clay can be found in the U.S.

This geographic advantage is why mining companies flocked to the area, with Covia’s Hephzibah plant starting operation in 1900. According to Senior Plant Manager Adam Beatty, historical records documenting the site’s early clay processing activity have been handed down over time. These days, the kaolin clay mined at the Hephzibah plant is commonly used for both fiberglass and ceramic products ranging from insulation to bathroom sinks.

Precision Clay Mining with Purpose

At Hephzibah, kaolin is extracted using open-pit strip mining that requires some expertise. Kaolin clay is made up of three distinct layers – known as the form, sperse, and bond – that is found 80 or more feet below surface level. Excavators dig down and have to carefully navigate these layers to efficiently and effectively mine this material.

“You can’t just put any excavator operators out there and expect them to do what we need them to do,” Adam said. “As the excavator operator is digging, they can feel the difference between the layers. The sperse is in short supply, so we make sure that we mine it appropriately to conserve as much of it as we can.”

The different layers of clay are then blended to achieve the right chemical makeup for a product. The mix is dried from its natural 20% moisture content to less than 1% and milled into a baby-powder-like consistency. While many clay mining operations use similar equipment and processes, Hephzibah’s team emphasizes upfront chemistry testing, meticulous blending, and process control to deliver exceptional product consistency.

Mining at Hephzibah isn’t just about extraction – it’s also about stewardship. The team continually reclaims mined areas to help restore the land after they’re done working on it.

“Last year we reclaimed two areas with a total of about 30 acres, and we’ve got a couple of areas this year that we’re budgeted for,” Adam explained. “We try to be good stewards of the land and the environment.”

Safety That Starts at Home

In addition to their dedication to product consistency and environmental stewardship, the Hephzibah team highlights the plant’s outstanding safety record as a particular point of pride. In 2024, the plant celebrated 20 years without a lost-time incident, an achievement that has continued into 2025.

According to Adam, the plant’s history of safety success extends beyond policies and procedures. Veteran employees mentor newer team members, ensuring that experience and care are passed down. Monthly safety meetings are also used to do more than just cover compliance and PPE requirements. Instead, these gatherings are designed to create personal connections to safety.

“We translate everything we do to make safety meetings relevant to people’s lives at home,” Adam explains. “What safety first means to them is to be able to go home to their families, and we want to create a culture that helps them stay safe both here and when they’re not at work.”

A Legacy of Local Support

After 125 years in business, the Hephzibah plant is more than just another facility. It’s an active part of the community, with team members who have lived and worked in the region for a long time. That personal connection inspires a deep commitment to supporting the local community, such as donating equipment and resources to help out in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in 2024.

“We don’t just work here,” Beatty added. “We live here, too. And that means giving back in every way we can.”

Since 1900, Covia’s Hephzibah plant has been a cornerstone of innovation, quality, and community in Georgia’s mineral landscape. Here’s to the generations of team members who built this legacy – and to the future we continue to shape together.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., June 26, 2025 /3BL/ – In Episode 7 of 3BL’s What the…? video series, host Mary Mazzoni welcomes back Daniel Blackman, Founder of Renaissance94, for his second appearance on our series. This time, Blackman dives into why the sustainability space continues to miss the mark on real engagement and how practitioners can start to rebuild trust and connection across communities.

Full episode here.

As sustainability messaging becomes increasingly politicized, Blackman pulls no punches on where the industry has gone wrong.

“We’ve seen ESG, we’ve seen sustainability—these have become more about branding than about saving lives,” said Blackman. “It’s been more about branding than about engaging communities.”

He emphasizes the importance of shifting the way communicators show up and speak to people beyond their usual circles.

“We need to stop speaking at and over people. We need to speak to people where they are.”

Key takeaways from the conversation:

  • We’re talking—but not connecting. Sustainability professionals must meet communities where they are, both physically and emotionally, rather than delivering messages from afar or with a corporate filter.
  • Access and infrastructure matter. Many of the communities most impacted by climate issues lack the infrastructure, like broadband or transportation, to even participate in the conversation.
  • Communities want to be part of the solution. Every day, people, especially those directly affected by climate events, have valuable knowledge and lived experience. They should be seen as partners.

  • Acquisition of three leading U.S. hazardous waste management companies located in Massachusetts and California
  • A decisive step in the company’s ambition to double the size of its North America business, with a focus on hazardous waste treatment, one of the boosters of GreenUp

BOSTON, June 26, 2025 /3BL/ – Veolia, the world leader in hazardous waste treatment with 5b$ in this activity, patented technologies and a worldwide presence, today announced actions to expand its hazardous waste treatment and disposal business in North America through investment, acquisitions and capacity expansion. The company announced c.$350 million (€300m) in global investments worldwide, including three new U.S. acquisitions in Massachusetts and California and reaffirmed plans to expand existing facilities.

As reshoring drives the growth of US manufacturing industries and medical technologies continue to advance, hazardous waste treatment and disposal capacity must anticipate this demand. Veolia’s global leadership in hazardous waste management allows the company to meet these needs, ensure environmental security for communities, and provide safe, proven solutions for industrial hazardous waste.

Veolia Acquires Three Leading Hazardous Waste Providers

In Massachusetts, the company has acquired New England Disposal Technologies and New England MedWaste. With these acquisitions, Veolia now operates the state’s only permitted medical waste disposal facility, as well as two of the state’s three permitted household hazardous waste disposal sites. The acquisitions also expand Veolia’s leadership in serving the Massachusetts healthcare and life science industries.

In California, the company has acquired Ingenium, a leading waste management service firm specializing in packaging, transportation, recycling and disposal of hazardous, non-hazardous, biological, universal and radioactive waste. This builds on a prior strategic partnership between the two companies to lock in guaranteed high-temperature treatment capacity for customers at Veolia incinerators.

A vast and powerful network of infrastructure in the US, including a state-of-the-art thermal treatment facility to start up in Arkansas

Veolia, which owns six high-temperature incinerators at three sites in the United States (Port Arthur, TX – Gum Springs, AR – Sauget, IL) also gave an update on the expansion of its unique high temperature hazardous waste treatment facility in Gum Springs, Ark., which has been undergoing a multi-year expansion that will make it one of the most technologically advanced and environmentally sustainable facilities of its kind in the world. When the facility starts up it will progressively bring new permitted incineration capacity to the market, much of it already contracted as part of long-term agreements.

The new incinerator design incorporates energy recovery to produce power for the site and therefore is subject to the EPA’s recycling designation of H050 for wastes received for treatment. This designation, coupled with the multiple environmental awards already received by the project, further reinforces Veolia’s position as a provider of environmentally sustainable waste management solutions. This ability to turn waste into a resource and to design facilities that are both essential for the regions and increasingly virtuous perfectly aligns with the ambitions set out in Veolia’s strategic GreenUp program, which aims to depollute, decarbonize, and preserve resources.

In addition to these state-of-the-art high temperature incinerators, Veolia also owns 49 transport and transfer platforms in 29 states as well as significant capacities for the recycling of liquid hazardous waste and electronic waste. Thanks to this wide range of solutions and facilities, the Group is able to efficiently meet the growing needs of local industrial players.

Bob Cappadona, President and Chief Executive Officer of Veolia’s North American Environmental Solutions and Services business said: “Our team is proud to be at the forefront of Veolia’s plans to lead the hazardous waste industry, by investing in growth, expanded capacity and new environmental technologies. The teams at New England Disposal Technologies, New England MedWaste and Ingenium are outstanding performers and are aligned with our GreenUp strategy, our purpose-driven and our customer-centric approach. Together we are positioned to make a real difference for the industry and the planet.”

Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia said this week during a thematic event on the subject of hazardous waste organized in northern France at one of the largest high-temperature incinerators in Europe: “Hazardous waste treatment is becoming a strategic bottleneck for many industries, especially those undergoing transformation or reshoring production, it’s also an essential topic for human health and ensuring environmental security. By reinforcing our footprint through both organic investment and acquisition, we are positioning Veolia to remain ahead of the curve. Our global presence, the combination of our expertises, innovative technologies, and ability to scale rapidly enable us to deliver tailored, high-value-added services, while accelerating time-to-market for innovative waste treatment solutions.”
