Contract valued at approximately $15 million will support new electrical distribution facility in South District Wastewater Treatment PlantProject will enable continuous operation during severe storms and incorporates sustainable practices and resilient design to maximize asset lifespan and resource conservation

PITTSBURGH, December 6, 2023 /3BL/ – Intelligent power management company Eaton today announced it is providing approximately $15 million in electrical distribution, control solutions and engineering services to support a new electrical distribution facility at the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) South District Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project will enable the department to provide a resilient response in the event of power failure by incorporating facility hardening and design measures to protect assets against severe weather like hurricanes.

The Miami-Dade WASD is undertaking a significant capacity expansion of its South District Wastewater Treatment plant with a total program investment of $600 million, which represents the first substantial capacity expansion for the plant since the 1990s. Once completed, the plant’s permitted treatment capacity will increase by 16%—from 112.5 to 131 million gallons per day (MGD)—and will increase the facility’s wet weather (peak) flow capacity from 285 MGD to 305 MGD. Eaton’s solutions will help the county energize new and existing treatment processes to maintain a more robust and resilient facility.

Eaton is working with local electrical contractor American Electric of Miami, Inc. and general contractor PCL Construction on the project, which is expected to be complete by 2025.

“With these critical projects that future-proof our infrastructure, we are safeguarding the public’s health and positively positioning our county’s economy and environment to thrive today, and decades to come,” said WASD director Roy Coley.

“For decades, we’ve worked closely with Miami-Dade County to support safe, reliable and energy efficient wastewater treatment,” said Charles Geisbert, senior vice president and general manager of Eaton’s Power Distribution Controls and Assemblies division. “Backed by the industry’s broadest range of arc-flash safety solutions and an expert knowledge of the county’s wastewater treatment operations, we’re proud to help the department advance their environmental compliance and upgrade projects.”

The project relies on a wide range of Eaton’s intelligent power management solutions including transformers, arc-resistant medium- and low-voltage switchgear, medium-voltage motor controls, motor control centers, switchboards, and panelboards. The facility will also incorporate Eaton’s intelligent switching devices to help maintain critical uptime during unplanned outages. Additionally, Eaton will provide the municipality with turnkey electrical engineering services, power system studies, and onsite equipment and maintenance training.

U.S. government agencies have relied on Eaton to advance sustainable, resilient electrical infrastructure projects for decades. Today, Eaton is ready to accelerate federal initiatives with its longstanding government taskforce and more than 26,000 U.S.-based employees located across 253 facilities. Steady investments in its U.S. operations and manufacturing base support increased demand for the company’s solutions powering federal electrification projects.

Southern Company

ATLANTA, December 6, 2023 /3BL/ – U.S. Army Garrison Eisenhower and Georgia Power, a Southern Company subsidiary, have partnered on a strategic objective to accelerate the access, adoption and usage of electric vehicle (EV) charging throughout the installation.

The utility privatization (UP) contract entered into by Georgia Power with Fort Eisenhower will see the company own, maintain and manage the EV infrastructure and charging program at the installation. The first phase of this objective will involve scaling 14 strategic locations within Fort Eisenhower with the necessary infrastructure to support EV chargers. The construction portion of the project, with a total cost of $1.6 million, is scheduled to begin by the end of 2023.

This investment is part of the broader UP contract with Georgia Power serving as the owner of Fort Eisenhower’s electric utility system. Accelerating electric framework investments under this contract serves to address the evolving energy needs of Fort Eisenhower while also reducing its carbon footprint.

“We are extremely happy to be partnering with Georgia Power for this project,” said Col. Reginald K. Evans, U.S. Army Garrison Eisenhower Commander. “Building the electric vehicle infrastructure now allows Fort Eisenhower to get chargers in place ahead of government EV fleet growth expected in the near future.”

The new electric infrastructure will bring a variety of benefits, including increased availability of EV charging stations to support the needs of government vehicles assigned to and entering Fort Eisenhower. This will reduce reliance on fossil fuels thus minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, further supporting the resiliency and decarbonization efforts of the Department of Defense installations to meet the requirements of Executive Order 14057.

“This initiative reflects the shared commitment of Georgia Power and Fort Eisenhower to investing in resilient electric grid enhancements that facilitate sustainable energy solutions,” said Chris Cummiskey, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Southern Company. “We’re honored to partner with Fort Eisenhower and are confident the infrastructure put in place today will benefit the installation well into the future.”

Pennsylvania-based Kupper Engineering is helping companies convert waste and related byproducts into renewable natural gas (RNG.) Made from biogas emitted from organic waste, RNG is processed to pipe-line quality standards and used as a substitute for fossil fuels.

As part of its solutions portfolio, Kupper, a provider of engineering, controls, and procurement services, has relied on Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) for more than a decade.

Kupper, one of the first firms to provide electrical engineering services for RNG production facilities, is helping one of North America’s largest landfill operators aggressively expand its RNG infrastructure as part of its growth and sustainability strategies.

Through a series of processes, operators can take landfill gas (LFG), clean it, and turn it into what is essentially natural gas. In addition to offering products to control these processes, Rockwell technologies are key to employee and system safety, as they help facilities monitor and detect gas leaks, control ventilation, adjust fans, and shut systems down if needed.

Kupper Engineering’s first standardized LFG to RNG site for a client’s current portfolio went online in spring 2023. Between now and 2026, this client plans to build 20 RNG plants capable of handling 3,000-8,000 standard cubic feet per minute of LFG.

In October, Entergy hosted an “Empowering women in energy” panel during the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute 2023 fourth quarter meeting in Houston. The CBC Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social welfare organization whose primary mission is to “educate today’s voters and train tomorrow’s leaders,” as well as inform, inspire and ignite its communities into action on issues that affect them the most. The meeting was held in Houston to allow members of Congress and various industry governmental affairs representatives to tour the area and hear from local industries with a focus on the energy industry.

Entergy is a member of the CBC Institute Corporate Advisory Council. As we expand and enhance our profile in the national and federal landscape, relationships with organizations like the CBC Institute are critical to ensuring our ability to share our message with key stakeholders.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (the law enacted from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, or IIJA) has created an unprecedented amount of funding opportunities for clean energy and electrical grid resilience projects, such as the $55M grant that Entergy New Orleans was recently awarded through the Department of Energy’s “Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships” program.

All IIJA/BIL funding opportunities require a community benefits plan in order to comply with the Biden Administration’s Justice40 Initiative, which established a goal that 40% of the benefits of climate and clean energy investments flow to disadvantaged communities.

Because the majority of Entergy’s service territories fall within areas that qualify as disadvantaged communities, or DACs, under the Justice40 definition, and the scoring of the community benefits plan plays a significant role in award decisions, we are uniquely qualified to leverage our longstanding investment in our communities. Letters of support from respected national organizations like the CBC Institute that represent the interests of some of the members of these DACs can also bolster the credibility of our community benefits plans in these highly competitive application processes.

Participating in events held by organizations like the CBC Institute also present unique opportunities for us to share information about our industry-leading innovations and efforts to promote a just clean energy transition, ensure a reliable and resilient bulk electrical system and support the communities we serve.

“Entergy has been an active part of the CBC Institute’s programs since our inception,” said CBC Institute Executive Director Vanessa Griddine-Jones, “They continue to be a valued partner in informing and educating members of Congress and other national stakeholders on key issues in the energy sector.”

Kendra James, manager of communications for Entergy Texas, moderated the panel of five female vice presidents from across the company:

Elizabeth Adams, vice president of system planningYovanka Daniels, vice president of customer contact solutionsLouise Duncan, vice president of power plant operationsKristin Johnson, vice president of human resourcesSandra Diggs-Miller, vice president of external affairs

The discussion focused on the crucial role of women in the energy sector during the clean energy transition. As the world continues to prioritize sustainable and clean energy solutions, ensuring gender diversity and inclusivity is imperative. The clean energy transition presents a unique opportunity to address historical disparities and create a more equitable energy workforce. Entergy has proactively joined forces to foster the advancement of women and minorities within the energy sector.

Panelists shared their experiences, insights, and strategies for promoting diversity, inclusion, and partnerships to advance the efforts. They explored the challenges faced by women professionals, best practices, success stories and practical steps to overcome barriers and create a more supportive environment. The panel also highlighted the collaborative efforts undertaken by the company, through policy and partnerships, to empower and support women professionals in the energy industry, particularly those in disadvantaged communities.

Southwire’s DEI mission is to build a culture that recognizes and celebrates the value of diverse backgrounds, equity in opportunity and inclusivity in action. Our commitment to DEI is holistic, going beyond what happens in the workplace to help improve equity and inclusion in our communities and across our value chain. Over the past several years, we have prioritized and accelerated our DEI efforts with a focus on seven strategic focus areas. We expect our focus areas to evolve as we drive our DEI mission forward in future years.

DEI Focus Areas

EMPLOYEE RESOURCE GROUPS (ERGS)

Our ERGs create a place for team members to connect and collaborate across their shared differences and celebrate the value of diversity at Southwire. We currently have six active ERGs that provide opportunities for learning, connection and development, and while they focus on bringing awareness around specific groups, all team members are welcome to join.

INCLUSIVE RECRUITING

We embrace various cultures, perspectives, values and experiences in our workforce and invest in initiatives to recruit and support diverse talent. By establishing, strengthening and maintaining partnerships with universities and other organizations, we support educational experiences and career opportunities that are more inclusive for all.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT

Our focus on talent goes beyond just getting new team members in the door. Through our talent development focus, we commit to investing in educational programs and other opportunities that help our team members develop their skills and pursue their professional goals.

SUPPLIERS

We embed the principles of DEI in our value chain by engaging and investing in small- and diverseowned businesses. We also support potential suppliers in growing their businesses by encouraging them to become certified as diverse. Diverse suppliers currently represent 37% of our total supplier pool and we have increased our spending in this area by 48% over the past five years.

GIVING BACK

Our neighbors depend on us, just as we depend on them, and we are committed to improving the quality of life in the communities in which we work. DEI is among Southwire’s five charitable giving strands, guiding us to support initiatives that foster inclusion, promote diverse perspectives, and recognize the talent, and inherent value of all people regardless of gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

ADVOCACY

We support policies and causes that align with our commitment to DEI, including through various partnerships and by recognizing and celebrating diverse groups and DEI-focused moments throughout the year. We strive to empower team members to make their own decisions about the issues they support while providing them with the tools to make educated choices and promote an inclusive culture for all.

EXTERNAL PARTNERSHIPS

Southwire’s external partnerships are vital to building relationships with like-minded organizations that reflect our company’s values and DEI goals. These partnerships strengthen our business by furthering our efforts to recruit and support diverse talent. They also provide our team members with opportunities to get involved.

MANAGEMENT & ACCOUNTABILITY

In 2022, Southwire established a new DEI governance model to ensure accountability at every level. The new model includes our CEO DEI Council, Executive DEI Council, Team Member DEI Council and Social Advisory Committee, along with required DEI performance objectives for all people leaders. To drive further accountability and progress, we established eight DEI goals which focus on our seven areas. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and know that there is still more to do. We share our achievements to date in our inaugural 2022 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Report.

Our 2022 Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) — one of the ways we measure team member engagement and satisfaction at Southwire — reflects our progress toward our DEI goals. The eNPS has four metrics which relate to DEI: diversity, nondiscrimination, inclusion and DEI overall. Each improved by at least seven points in 2022, compared to our scores from the previous year.

EMBEDDING DEI ACROSS SOUTHWIRE

To make DEI part of how we operate each day, we need to provide our teams with opportunities to get involved. Our goal is to embed inclusive and equitable practices throughout the team member experience. With participation at all Southwire locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Honduras, our six active ERGs helped us advance this goal in 2022. Additionally, our 43 TEAM champions focused on providing DEI opportunities across the organization and at their local sites.

We continued to expand our annual Summer Enrichment Series, with more than 600 team members from 46 Southwire locations participating in 20 events. The activities included speed mentoring sessions, fireside leadership chats and keynotes with external DEI experts. Similarly, we saw meaningful growth in our Southwire Link Mentorship Program in 2022.

Powered by Southwire’s DEI and Talent Development teams, Southwire Link is the first company-wide, application-based mentorship program open to all team members. The program focuses on collaboration across the organization to create a platform for knowledge sharing and professional development. The 2022 program included more than 45 team member participants, representing YOY growth of more than 75%. This included over 45% female representation and all career bands — making it a truly inclusive team member experience.

Empowering Women to Lead in Manufacturing

Female team members play an integral role in our company’s evolution and success, and our commitment to supporting and advancing women in our workforce has never been stronger. As part of our commitment, we continue to grow our partnership with Women in Manufacturing (WiM), a nonprofit focused on empowering women workers and strengthening the manufacturing sector. In 2022, 19 female team members participated in WiM’s Empowering Women in Production program. The 20-week course is designed to position women in manufacturing production roles for advancement and success with impactful training, coaching and a connected community of like-minded women.

“I’m proud to complete another successful program here at Southwire. As a Latina woman, it is an honor to progress inside this company and grow as a leader. Thanks to the Empowering Women in Production program, I’ve learned that being bilingual is a strength that I can use to my advantage.”

– Jenny Rivera, North Campus Take-Up Operator at Southwire

Southwire also served as a sponsor and keynote speaker at the 2022 National Women in Manufacturing Summit. The event brought together more than 1,000 manufacturing professionals from 263 companies working to advance and promote women in the industry. Nearly 60 Southwire team members attended the summit, with several leading roundtable discussions and breakout sessions, providing presentations and hosting our exhibitor booth.

“For Southwire, delivering power is not just about electricity. Delivering power is also about empowering each Southwire team member to bring their whole selves to the workplace and to be a conduit for positive change in their communities. Providing an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds feel empowered, included and comfortable expressing varied thoughts and perspectives is our priority, and Southwire maintains a strong commitment to ensuring our workforce continues to reflect our complex and evolving world. We foster an inclusive environment that recognizes the value and talent of diverse perspectives, regardless of gender and ethnicity.”

– Fernando Esquivel, EVP, Chief People & Culture Officer at Southwire

DIVERSIFYING OUR WORKFORCE

Ensuring diverse representation across our workforce and leadership is critical to our long-term success. We recognize that initiatives to recruit, support and promote diverse talent have tangible business benefits tied to performance, productivity and innovation.

In 2022, we carried out a variety of initiatives to nurture diversity in our workforce and position our company as an employer of choice for future and current talent. We leveraged and grew external partnerships — such as those with the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC) and WiM — to build our talent pipeline through engagement, education and awareness. We also continued to invest in and promote our ERGs, which support talent attraction and retention by providing team members with an avenue for development, networking and engagement. Our achievements in the DEI space earned recognition through four external awards. Powered by this momentum, we will build on these efforts in 2023 and beyond.

“Our goal is for all Southwire team members to feel empowered and engaged. We have made progress in building a culture in which DEI is a priority—where a diversity of people come together and can do their best work because they feel that they are valued for their perspectives and their unique differences. We will continue to prioritize efforts to build an inclusive and diverse workforce, positioning Southwire to be generationally sustainable for the next 100 years and beyond.”

– Cara Herzog, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer

Making Southwire an Employer of Choice for New Moms

It may just be a room, but its impact is tremendous. When a nursing mother comes back to work after maternity leave, a dedicated lactation room is essential to helping her transition back to the workplace and feel supported as both a team member and a mother.

To support new mothers in our workforce, Southwire announced a partnership with Nessel in 2022, to standardize dedicated spaces for nursing mothers across our organization. The lactation rooms provide a supportive, safe and sanitary space for breastfeeding mothers to help them thrive while pumping at work.

Our goal is to have this standard for clean, comfortable and compliant nursing mothers’ stations integrated into every company facility by the end of 2024. Whether in a manufacturing facility in Texas or an office building in Canada, we want to ensure our team members have a convenient and private space to meet their needs.

U.S. Workforce Diversity at a Glance

42% of team members are from underrepresented communities.

23% of team members are women.

5% of team members are veterans.

Afresh Technologies, the world’s leading fresh food technology company, and Albertsons Companies (NYSE: ACI) announced today the enterprise rollout of the Afresh platform into the meat and seafood departments in more than 2,200 Albertsons Cos. banner stores including Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Vons and ACME. The Afresh platform drives better decision-making across the fresh supply chain with intelligent and connected solutions purpose-built for the complexities of fresh food.

Since 2022, Albertsons Cos. has delivered fresher produce with higher in-stock rates while also reducing food waste as a result of its partnership with Afresh. After a successful two-month pilot in meat and seafood departments in 2023, the Afresh platform began an immediate chainwide rollout across Albertsons Cos. banner stores.

“Managing a meat and seafood department is particularly challenging because of the financial implications of shrink. To meet these challenges, Afresh is leveraging AI at scale to support accurate ordering for complex cutting and production items,” said Dain Charette, Chief Revenue Officer at Afresh. “Additionally, we are excited about furthering our mission and continuing to support Albertsons’ ESG goal of reducing food waste.”

The Afresh platform will enable Albertsons Cos.’ meat and seafood teams to keep coolers and freezers light while boosting in-stock rates with AI-powered recommendations for high-value, hyper-perishable items like fresh poultry and prefilled order quantities for slower-moving, prepackaged items such as bacon. With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface and workflows that follow department-specific best practices, department managers of any tenure can quickly place profit-maximizing orders.

“At Albertsons, we strive to create a distinctive experience in fresh foods, and our meat and seafood departments are a key component in this strategy. Afresh has enabled our associates to make smarter decisions daily that keep customer favorites in stock and ensure that we are offering them the best quality, freshest product,” said Susan Morris, EVP and Chief Operations Officer for Albertsons Cos. “The Afresh platform also helps our stores to significantly reduce food waste as Albertsons continues to make progress toward our goal to have zero waste going to landfill by 2030.”

Meat and seafood is the top-selling fresh category in grocery stores, accounting for 12 percent of fresh sales in 2021 according to FMI. In early 2023, Afresh announced its expansion beyond produce into other core fresh departments, including meat, seafood, deli, and food service.

CHICAGO, December 6, 2023 /3BL/ – Quaker is celebrating this football season with its first ever Quaker Pregrain Tour, which includes a tailgate truck that will visit select NFL stadiums, the introduction of a new digital Quaker Playbook featuring a collection of 32 recipes inspired by each NFL team, and a $250,000 donation to GENYOUth, a nationally recognized youth health and wellness nonprofit organization, to help tackle hidden hunger.

Quaker first introduced the concept of “pregraining” in 2022, with the launch of limited edition 6-packs of Quaker Oats to help fans pregrain before the Big Game. Then earlier this year, Eli Manning kicked off a TikTok challenge asking fans to share videos of how they pregrain for a chance to win tickets to Super Bowl LVIII.

To build on the concept for 2023, the Quaker Pregrain Tour takes it a step further by inspiring fans to get creative with Quaker Oats and pregrain with their favorite team’s recipe on gameday and beyond. Quaker’s Associate Research Chef and Culinary Lead, Chef Steven Dominguez, curated the 32 recipes in the digital cookbook, which are inspired by and highlight popular flavors and culinary specialties of all the NFL team hometowns.

NFL fans can try their team’s recipe creation in person at select games during the Quaker Pregrain Tour, which will be making stops at six NFL games this season. The Quaker Oats Pregrain truck will show fans how to change up their stadium tailgate recipes with Quaker Oats and will provide fun and engaging tailgate activities.

In addition to creating great tasting and nourishing recipes, Quaker is also dedicated to helping tackle hidden hunger and will be providing a donation to GENYOUth during this season’s Taste of the NFL event. The Taste of the NFL is a purpose-driven Super Bowl culinary experience that raises awareness and generates funds to help fight hunger and food insecurity among children to support the organization’s commitment to help end student hunger and ensure students are well nourished.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Quaker Pregrain Tour to fans across the country to share delicious recipes while we further our commitment to help tackle hunger. Quaker is dedicated to our founder’s belief that the circumstances of life should not be a barrier to good nutrition,” said Katie Scupham, Vice President of Meal Occasions at PepsiCo. “We’re proud to share this belief with our NFL partners and look forward to serving our shared commitments in support of an incredible organization like GENYOUth.”

“Over 30 million students rely on school meals for a significant portion of their daily nutrition. Our shared partnership with the NFL and support from Quaker are imperative to the forward momentum of America’s youth achieving healthier futures,” said Ann Marie Krautheim, CEO at GENYOUth. “Quaker’s donation will help support immediate impacts and support our initiatives to promote student nutrition security, physical activity and leadership nationwide.”

Quaker is also teaming up with NFL Legends Archie and Eli Manning, Peloton instructor and sports reporter Jess Sims, and renowned chef and GENYOUth board member Carla Hall to help spread the word about the Quaker Pregrain Tour and Quaker’s commitment to help tackle hunger and food insecurity among children. Throughout the season, they’ll share their favorite Quaker recipes and talk about the importance of Quaker’s partnership with the NFL and support for GENYOUth.

Eli Manning has been a long-standing brand fan and Quaker partner. In September, he got his family in on the fun with appearances in Quaker’s two new family-focused commercials “Breakfast Playcall” and “Heart,” showing how the Manning family starts their morning with Quaker Oats.

16th Annual Veterans Stand Down event

Every Tuesday after Thanksgiving is designated as GivingTuesday, an annual celebration that encourages global generosity. The idea came to life in 2012 and has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Throughout the year, Maximus employees demonstrate their generosity in a variety of ways—whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, many across the U.S. donate their time, energy, and resources to give back to our local communities.

Join us in celebrating an inspiring story shared by our colleague and the meaningful cause they support.

Homeless Veterans Stand Down events are one to three-day events that support local homeless Veterans by providing supplies and services such as medical services, clothing and toiletry donations, haircuts, job opportunities, and much more. This year’s event was coordinated by the local CareerSource Gulf Coast agency with Gulf Coast State College, other government agencies, and community-based homeless service providers. With an estimated 2,400 homeless Veterans in Florida, this event allows Veterans to receive help, renew their spirit and health, and develop an overall sense of wellbeing.

Last September, in support of the 16th Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down Event, employees from the Maximus Contact Center Operations site in Lynn Haven held an office drive to collect more than 670 donation items, ranging from toiletry and clothing to household supplies and helped more than 50 homeless Veterans receive the support they need.

Joy Sims, who helped lead the effort, shared her gratitude for the team’s support, “It was an honor to be a part of this impactful event and deliver the donated supplies to help Veterans in our community. Thank you to the Maximus employees who made it possible to give back to our local Veterans.”

This is just one of the many examples of Maximus staff donating their time to others. We are pleased to take this opportunity on GivingTuesday to recognize their efforts to give back to their communities and the vital causes that serve those who need it most.

Giving back to the communities we serve

The Maximus Foundation is one of the ways Maximus employees are doing something greater together. Established by the Maximus Board of Directors in 2000, the Maximus Foundation is an independent, employee-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Employee donors pool their charitable contributions together through the Foundation, double their impact on the grantmaking program through Maximus’ dollar-for-dollar matching pledge, and make their voices heard by nominating and voting for future grantee partners. Though the Foundation focuses its giving strategy on grantmaking, it also helps coordinate corporate-wide humanitarian efforts and empowers employees to donate their time and skills to nonprofits. Their inspired giving and volunteerism help accelerate the missions of nonprofits on the frontlines of the communities we serve. Learn more at maximus.com/foundation.
