CHICAGO, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MAIA Biotechnology, Inc. (NYSE American: MAIA) (“MAIA”, the “Company”), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing immunotherapies for cancer, today announced that Board member Ramiro Guerrero, JD, LL.M. has increased his ownership stake in the Company through open market purchases totaling approximately $252,284. A total of 185,078 shares of MAIA common stock were acquired by Mr. Guerrero between August 20, 2026, and September 10, 2026, at an average common stock price of $1.36. MAIA also announced that 73,000 shares of MAIA common stock were acquired by Founder and CEO Vlad Vitoc, M.D. on September 14, 2026, at an average common stock price of $1.37.

“Our increased investments reflect the confidence we share across our leadership team in MAIA’s science, clinical strategy and long-term commercial potential,” said Dr. Vitoc. “With a growing body of clinical evidence supporting the ateganosine program, we believe MAIA is entering an increasingly important period in its development.”

“As MAIA has stated previously, its ongoing pivotal Phase 3 trial offers a statistically high probability of technical success,” Mr. Guerrero added. “I continue to believe MAIA is well positioned to create a great deal of value for its shareholders over time.”

MAIA’s ongoing pivotal Phase 3 trial THIO-104 evaluates ateganosine sequenced with checkpoint inhibitor cemiplimab versus investigator’s choice in third-line non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Statistical assessments of ateganosine suggest a high probability of technical success and potential early full commercial approval if Phase 3 interim data is consistent with Phase 2 THIO-101 trial results. MAIA recently announced positive initial efficacy data from the ongoing Phase 2 THIO-101 clinical trial expansion, Part C, with third-line studies showing a disease control rate (DCR) of 90.5%1 in the efficacy evaluable population who had at least one tumor scan after starting treatment.

As of September 14, 2026, MAIA’s directors and officers hold a 21.34% stake in the Company.

About Ateganosine

Ateganosine (THIO, 6-thio-dG or 6-thio-2’-deoxyguanosine) is a first-in-class investigational telomere-targeting agent currently in clinical development to evaluate its activity in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Telomeres, along with the enzyme telomerase, play a fundamental role in the survival of cancer cells and their resistance to current therapies. The modified nucleotide 6-thio-2’-deoxyguanosine induces telomerase-dependent telomeric DNA modification, DNA damage responses, and selective cancer cell death. Ateganosine-damaged telomeric fragments accumulate in cytosolic micronuclei and activates both innate (cGAS/STING) and adaptive (T-cell) immune responses. The sequential treatment of ateganosine followed by PD-(L)1 inhibitors resulted in profound and persistent tumor regression in advanced, in vivo cancer models by induction of cancer type–specific immune memory. Ateganosine is presently developed as a second or later line of treatment for NSCLC for patients that have progressed beyond the standard-of-care regimen of existing checkpoint inhibitors.

ATHENS, Greece, September 15, 2026 /3BL/ – Cascale, the global nonprofit industry alliance uniting more than 300 members across the consumer goods industry, today opened its 2026 Annual Meeting in Athens, where chief executive officer Ying McGuire used her first Annual Meeting address to launch a member-led process to set the alliance’s direction for the next decade. Rather than present a finished strategy, McGuire invited members to help build an industry system map that will lead to Cascale’s 10-year vision, 2030 strategy, and 2027 priorities — work that will be drawn directly from the membership over the days ahead and finalized in December.

“Athens is not where I unveil Cascale’s next strategy,” said McGuire. “Athens is where we start drawing it together. I want you to look at that strategy in December and say: I can see my fingerprints on it. Because Cascale does not belong to the CEO. It belongs to this community.”

Key Takeaways

  • McGuire opened her first Annual Meeting as CEO by launching a member-led process to shape an industry system map leading to Cascale’s 10-year vision, 2030 strategy, and 2027 priorities, to be finalized in December.
  • The approach follows a 90-day listening effort spanning roughly 150 conversations across the value chain, after which she committed to sharpening Cascale’s value proposition, clarifying roles across a fragmented industry landscape, and bringing manufacturers to the table as partners.
  • She positioned Cascale’s role as the “passage” for collective action — the shared system brands, retailers, manufacturers, investors, NGOs, and policymakers move through together — rather than a body that dictates the route.
  • She framed the alliance’s next chapter as turning measurement into action: “A thermometer can tell us we have a fever. It cannot cure us.”
  • Members joining in Athens and online will shape the strategy directly through a systems-mapping exercise feeding Cascale’s 2030 strategy and 2027 priorities.

A Strategy Shaped By Members

McGuire framed her opening as the start of a shared agenda. In her first months as CEO, she met every member of the Cascale team and spoke with nearly 150 organizations across the value chain, asking what is working, what is getting in the way, and what members would change. The answers were consistent: members value Cascale’s convening power and the shared infrastructure built over fifteen years, and they want a sharper value proposition, clearer roles across a fragmented field of initiatives, and manufacturers treated as partners rather than measured from a distance.

That input now feeds a systems-mapping exercise, led by systems thinkers over the course of the meeting, in which members in Athens and online are asked to identify where the system is working, where it is stuck, and which levers matter most. The output will shape Cascale’s 2030 strategy and 2027 priorities directly.

Cascale as the “Passage” for Collective Action

Drawing on the collective engineering effort behind the Panama Canal, McGuire offered a metaphor in the passage itself. “That is the role I believe Cascale can play,” she said. “Not the ship. Not the captain. The passage.” Every vessel flies its own flag and sets its own destination, she noted, yet all depend on the same shared system to get through.

For Cascale, that means being the place where the industry can make the system visible, see where it is stuck, identify the levers that matter most, and build a way through together — convening brands, retailers, manufacturers, investors, NGOs, service providers, policymakers, and academia around the frameworks and shared intelligence the industry relies on. McGuire was explicit that this includes clarity about where Cascale leads, where it convenes and partners, and where it steps back.

From Measurement to Action

McGuire pointed to the scale of the shared system the industry has built over fifteen years of Higg Index frameworks, stewarded by Cascale and deployed to members and stakeholders through the Worldly platform. This data covers hundreds of millions of metric tons of carbon emissions, trillions of liters of water, and the working lives of millions of people across the global supply chain. “That is not just a database,” she said. “That is an enormous responsibility.”

She was candid that measurement alone is not enough. “A thermometer can tell us we have a fever. It cannot cure us,” she said. “Our next chapter is about turning measurement into treatment — insight into investment, action, and measurable results.” She recast the investment members make in Cascale not as a cost to minimize but as shared infrastructure no single company should have to build alone — strengthening common frameworks, reducing duplication, and accelerating outcomes no company could reach by itself.

Closing, McGuire returned to a recent member question about who in the industry would raise a flag to guide it. Her answer: the flag is carried by everyone in the system. “We raise it together.”

This is the ambition she asked members to rally around: turning the largest shared sustainability and risk-management intelligence in the industry into its most powerful engine for collective action — data into decisions, investment into solutions, and ambition into measurable progress, for a resilient supply chain, a thriving industry, a livable planet, and decent work for the people whose hands make this industry possible.

The 2026 Cascale Annual Meeting is proudly supported by lead sponsor Worldly; co-chaired by VF Corporation and TAL Apparel Limited; additional sponsors include Nike Inc., Target Corporation, Epic Group, Better Cotton, Fair Wear Foundation, European Cotton Alliance, GSCS International, HQTS, Inspectorio, Lenzing, Solidaridad, ZDHC, and many more.

Landmark independent study reports significantly improved task performance and satisfaction and lower pain compared with wheelchair use

ReWalk users with chronic spinal cord injury were able to perform everyday kitchen and grooming activities while standing with a personal exoskeleton

Publication adds to clinical evidence supporting ReWalk as sales and national distribution access continue to expand

HUDSON, Mass. and YOKNEAM ILLIT, Israel, Sept. 15, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Lifeward Ltd. (Nasdaq: LFWD) (“Lifeward” or the “Company”), a diversified biomedical innovation company with a portfolio of commercialized neurorehabilitation products and a biomedical pipeline, today announced the publication of an independent, researcher-led peer-reviewed study demonstrating the potential for individuals with chronic spinal cord injury to use a personal exoskeleton to perform everyday activities while standing in their homes.

The study, “Beyond Walking: Exploring Functional Use of Exoskeletons in the Home Environment,” was published in the Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice. The observational pilot study included 12 individuals with paraplegia due to chronic spinal cord injury and evaluated their ability to perform both activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) in their homes while using the ReWalk personal exoskeleton.

ADLs are fundamental personal-care activities, while IADLs are more complex activities required to function independently in daily life. In the study, all 12 participants successfully performed kitchen tasks while using the exoskeleton, and 10 of the 12 performed grooming tasks.

Researchers used established measures to assess participants before and after home exoskeleton use. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) evaluated participants’ perceived ability to perform the daily activities they identified as important, as well as their satisfaction with that performance. The Reintegration to Normal Living Index-modified (RNLI-M) assessed the importance of performing ADLs and IADLs while using the exoskeleton. Pain during exoskeleton use versus wheelchair use was evaluated using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Researchers also assessed changes in bowel and bladder function and barriers to exoskeleton use.

The study reported:

  • Significant improvement in participants’ perceived ability to perform daily activities, as measured by COPM performance scores (P=.008);
  • Significant improvement in satisfaction with their performance of those activities, as measured by COPM satisfaction scores (P=.003);
  • Significant improvement on the RNLI-M measure assessing the importance of completing ADLs and IADLs using the exoskeleton (P=.04);
  • Significantly lower reported pain while using the exoskeleton compared with wheelchair use, as measured by the NPRS (P=.01);
  • All 12 participants performed kitchen tasks and 10 performed grooming tasks while using the exoskeleton; and
  • 8 out of 12 participants reported improvements in bowel and bladder function.

The researchers concluded that personal exoskeleton use at home may enable individuals with paraplegia to perform selected ADLs and IADLs while standing and was associated with improved perceived performance and satisfaction, lower pain during device use, and reported improvements in bowel and bladder function.

“This is a truly landmark first-of-its-kind study with findings that are critically important because they evaluate the ReWalk experience in terms that are highly relevant to the everyday lives of people with spinal cord injury—what they are able to do while standing in their own homes,” said Keith Rose, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Lifeward. “The statistically significant improvements in task performance and satisfaction, with significantly lower reported pain compared with wheelchair use, provide meaningful additional evidence regarding the potential functional benefits of personal exoskeleton technology. The fact that every participant was able to perform kitchen activities while standing, and 10 of 12 were able to perform grooming activities, helps translate the clinical measures into practical outcomes that patients, clinicians, and payers can readily understand.”

“Peer-reviewed evidence of ReWalk’s real-world benefits can play an important role in expanding adoption,” said Josh Hexter, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Lifeward. “As we broaden access through our expanding distribution network, this evidence can help clinicians, patients, and payers understand ReWalk’s clinical value and support continued sales growth. We’re already seeing that recognition translate into coverage: Medicare Fee-for-Service and many national Medicare Advantage plans understand ReWalk’s clinical impact and are authorizing utilization for clinically appropriate patients.”

Excerpt from the study:

Several participants in this study volunteered anecdotal experiences with their personal exoskeleton use. Many described standing to complete functional tasks for the first time in years and remarked that they “felt normal”. Although these reports are anecdotal, they are consistent with the quantitative findings and suggest that exoskeleton use may offer meaningful nonpharmacologic benefits for some individuals. One participant with an incomplete SCI reported daily exoskeleton use for functional tasks. After several months he noted reduced leg atrophy and improved standing posture, suggesting regular exoskeleton use for functional tasks strengthened his innervated muscles. Another participant demonstrated that he could work on his truck engine while using the exoskeleton, a task he could not complete in his wheelchair or track chair. Several participants also reported changes in their medication regimens after incorporating regular exoskeleton use into their routines, including discontinuation of chronic opioid therapy, reductions in intrathecal baclofen dosage, and decreased need for antidepressant medications.

The publication comes as Lifeward continues to expand commercial access to ReWalk. ReWalk sales increased 13% year-over-year to $2.5 million in the second quarter of 2026, contributing to a 16% increase in total Lifeward revenue to $6.6 million. The Company is expanding its capital-efficient channel distribution strategy, including an August 2026 pilot with Ottobock Care, a leading U.S. mobility technology patient care organization with more than 50 patient clinics nationwide, designed to broaden access to ReWalk.
