WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), the nation’s oldest and largest kidney patient advocacy organization, will be hosting its annual National Patient Meeting next Friday, October 3 – Sunday, October 5, 2025 in Dallas, Texas, at the Doubletree by Hilton, Fort Worth South, 100 Altamesa Blvd. East, Fort Worth, TX 76134.

AAKP’s National Patient Meeting is the largest hybrid kidney patient conference in the U.S. with a growing international audience. This year’s event features a diverse line-up of expert speakers and influencers from all sectors of the kidney disease community including patient advocates,    U. S. government officials, medical professionals,  academia, private industry, and other non-profit organizations. The theme of this year’s event is “50 Proud Years of Patient Education: 50 Years of Saving Lives, 50 Years of Saving Livelihoods.” Topics include the latest developments in kidney-related research and technologies including Cardiovascular-Renal-Metabolic Health, artificial intelligence, artificial organs including xenotransplants, infection prevention, anemia management as well as advancements in Veterans kidney health, acute kidney injury, and new, patient-developed shared decision-making tools.

In 2019, AAKP declared 2020-2030 as The Decade of the Kidney™ to refocus national attention on unmet patient needs and to help clear regulatory and payment barriers that impede earlier disease prevention and medical innovation. AAKP has redefined kidney disease as both an American healthcare and workforce issue due to the fact that status quo treatments, particularly hemodialysis, drive patient unemployment, disability and dependency. AAKP manages the premier non-partisan voter registration program, KidneyVoters™ for kidney patients, transplant recipients, organ donors, and kidney professionals.

About the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP):  Since 1969, AAKP has been a patient-led organization driving policy discussions on kidney patient care choice and medical innovations to improve patient lives and prevent avoidable illness, disability and death. AAKP advocates played a central role in the Congressional authorization of Medicare coverage for dialysis and transplantation (1972), signed by President Richard Nixon (1973), which evolved into the modern End Stage Renal Disease Program. Over the past decade, AAKP patient advocates have helped advance the passage of the bipartisan law modernizing the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) via greater competition and oversight (2023); lifetime transplant drug coverage for kidney transplant recipients (2020); the presidential Executive Order on Advancing American Kidney Health (2019); new job protections for living organ donors under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) via the U.S. Department of Labor (2018); and Congressional legislation allowing HIV-positive organ transplants for HIV-positive patients (2013). Elected officials and advocacy leaders gathered to stand together, build momentum, and push forward lasting change

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In light of ongoing assaults on progress, this year’s National Town Hall at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 54th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) focused on how years of effort to expand opportunities, enhance diverse representation, dismantle systemic inequities, and fulfill the promises of the Civil Rights Era are being reversed.

Across two panel sessions, leaders discussed how this significant moment is reshaping democracy, social life, and Black communities. With the support of the title sponsor, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Town Hall outlined a proactive strategy for all who believe in equity and justice to stand together, build momentum, and push forward toward lasting change.

The National Town Hall featured speeches from Nicole Austin-Hillery, President and CEO of the CBCF; Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07); Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (MD); Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08); and Dr. Jonathan Cox, Vice President of Center Policy Analysis and Research.

During the National Town Hall, Austin-Hillery shared, “This is the event where we set the agenda for the conference. This is where we all get our marching orders so that we know what we need to do when we get back into the communities. It is especially important this year, in 2025, because of the breathtaking and challenging moment that we find ourselves in, that we come together in this moment, have this conversation and all leave here ready to get down to business in our hometowns.”

Veteran journalist Ed Gordon led the first panel discussion on addressing how we arrived at this moment in time. He was joined by Rep. Maxine Waters (CA-43), Rep. Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), President of the National Council of Negro Women Rev. Sharon Arline-Bradley, and the President and CEO of the National Urban League Marc Morial. Together, they examined the factors contributing to the current socio-political climate, addressed major concerns of the present, and discussed future expectations.

Education was a popular topic, with Rep. Waters emphasizing that “We have to educate the children of this country for their future.” As the conversation continued, the panelists encouraged all to organize and mobilize within their communities, sororities, fraternities, church groups, and civic associations to continue the fight for progress.

Rep. McClellan addressed the younger generations, emphasizing how she received assistance while “learning to vote” and expressing her responsibility to support the next generation.

The second panel, which examined how to move forward in unity, was moderated by Joy-Ann Reid, a political commentator and former host of The ReidOut. It included Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-09), Damon T. Hewitt, President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and Judith Browne Dianis, Executive Director of the Advancement Project National Office. The discussion focused on what is needed from Black communities, the broader American public, and political leaders to effectively address this moment.

The discussion focused on voting and voting rights; attendees were reminded that the right to vote is not automatic. Hewitt emphasized that it is necessary to “fight and preserve our opportunity to cast a ballot.”

The National Town Hall eloquently complemented the overarching theme of ALC 54, “Made for This Moment: Power, Policy & Progress,” which serves as a platform for Black thought leadership, coalition building, and advocacy. The space brings leaders together to develop solutions and advance their communities. For over 50 years, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) has been dedicated to elevating Black communities through research, leadership development, and public policy initiatives.

ALC will continue through Sunday, September 27, featuring dynamic programming and signature events. For more information about upcoming events, please check the conference agenda online. NEXTCHEM WILL PROVIDE THE FUEL CELL MODULES, WHILE SIEMENS ENERGY WILL PROVIDE ON BOARD SYSTEM INTEGRATION AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

MILAN, Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — MAIRE (Milan: MAIRE) announces that NEXTCHEM and Siemens Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on the development and commercialization of a breakthrough methanol high temperature fuel cell, based on a newly designed modularized solution.

With an initial focus on the high-end yachting segment, the target market for the cooperation is the maritime industry and beyond.

NEXTCHEM will focus on the design and supply of the innovative and highly efficient methanol fuel cell module, while Siemens Energy will leverage its expertise in onboard system integration, complete electrification and energy management with the aim of delivering a complete solution to shipyards and Owners.

The fuel cell will reform low-carbon methanol back into hydrogen for onboard power generation, allowing net-zero operations of the vessel both at anchor and during propulsion. This solution will allow displacing significant amounts of fossil marine diesel fuel, and to avoid the emissions of highly regulated nitrous and sulphur oxides.

The first “Industrial scale” installation of this innovative system is already under definition and will be installed on a flagship net-zero yacht currently under construction.

While the yachting segment is seen as an early adopter market, this new highly efficient methanol fuel cell module designed and supplied by NEXTCHEM will be capable of serving many other applications and markets, like stationary net-zero power generation, including back-up and baseload of data centers and industrial processes, as well as remote and off-grid installation.

Fabio Fritelli, Managing Director of NEXTCHEM, commented: “With this highly efficient and modularized fuel cell solution NEXTCHEM will cover the entire value chain of low-carbon methanol, with a unique proposition capable to deliver best-in-class production technologies, while also unlocking additional methanol uses, thus, accelerating demand growth and the establishment of a broader low-carbon methanol economy”.

Giuseppe Sachero, Vice President, Oil & Gas and Chemical Solutions, Siemens Energy, added: “This development highlights the unique value of key players in the energy transition value chain. By working together, we capitalize on each other’s expertise and references in adjacent industries. Fuel cells are an integral part of the clean fuels technologies ecosystem, from electrolysis to electricity generation and storage, and are applicable in multiple industrial applications.”
