KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Saving Nature, a science-led conservation organization dedicated to preventing extinctions and restoring ecosystems, announced today the purchase of two key land parcels totaling 46 acres in the Eastern Andes of Colombia. Working with local partner Fundación Camaná, the project will protect and restore habitat for one of the world’s rarest birds, the Cundinamarca Antpitta (Grallaria kaestneri).

Endemic to a small region of Colombia’s Eastern Andes, the Cundinamarca Antpitta inhabits humid montane forests between 5,575 and 7,545 feet. With less than one fifth of its remaining habitat under protection, it faces severe threats from deforestation and fragmentation. The newly acquired properties extend protection from the Refugio del Tororoi nature reserve downslope toward the valley below, linking fragmented forest patches and creating continuous habitat essential for the species’ survival.

The project builds on Saving Nature’s model of buying degraded lands and restoring them with native trees to create wildlife corridors that reconnect isolated forests. In Colombia, these efforts will help transform former pastureland into a living bridge that allows species to move freely between mountain and valley ecosystems.

“The Cundinamarca Antpitta is among the most range restricted and endangered birds on Earth,” said Dr. Stuart Pimm, Founder and President of Saving Nature. “By connecting its high elevation forest to the valley, we are ensuring it has the space and resilience needed to endure.”

“This project is vital for the long-term survival of the Cundinamarca Antpitta,” said Dr. Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela, Scientific Advisor to the project and Assistant Professor of Conservation Ecology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. “The species depends on continuous forest cover, and by restoring these lands we are giving it a chance to recover and thrive. This work also strengthens habitat for many other Andean species that share the same ecosystem.”

The restoration will focus on natural regeneration and fencing to exclude cattle, allowing native vegetation to recolonize former pastureland. Over time, the connected corridor will benefit other Andean species such as the Flame winged Parakeet, Black-and-Chestnut Eagle, and Spectacled Bear, while safeguarding water sources and soil stability across the mountain landscape.

About Saving Nature

Saving Nature is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by conservation scientists to rescue endangered species from extinction and communities from environmental destruction. The organization partners with local conservation leaders to buy degraded lands, restore them with native trees, and create wildlife corridors that reconnect isolated forests in biodiversity hotspots. By rebuilding these connections, Saving Nature promotes species dispersal, genetic diversity, and climate resilience.

About Fundación Camaná

Fundación Camaná is a Colombian non profit organization focused on protecting and restoring ecosystems in the Eastern Andes and Llanos regions. It manages the Refugio del Tororoi Nature Reserve, home to the endangered Cundinamarca Antpitta (Grallaria kaestneri), and leads the Mágia Harpía project to protect the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja). UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As winter heating season approaches, PSEG Long Island is holding three community events to help customers apply for state and federal programs that exist to help those struggling with utility bills. There are also many ways they can lower their bills by using energy wisely.

PSEG Long Island’s three events are designed to help connect customers with financial assistance from various resources. Community organizations, service providers and other groups will be present, many offering free items including LED light bulbs. They are scheduled as follows:

Monday, Nov. 3
Stop & Shop Parking Lot
999 Montauk Hwy, Shirley
1 – 5:30 PM
The first 200 attendees will receive fresh produce from Long Island Cares

Thursday, Nov. 6
UBS Arena Parking Lot
2400 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont
1 – 5:30 PM
The first 200 attendees will receive fresh produce from Long Island Cares

Thursday, Nov. 13
Key Food Parking Lot
20-20 New Haven Blvd Far Rockaway, NY
1 – 5:30 PM

“While PSEG Long Island is not a provider of natural gas or heating oil, we know this fall has been a time of economic uncertainty for a lot of people, and we want all our customers to be able to keep their homes warm this winter,” said Brigitte Wynn, PSEG Long Island’s director of Revenue Operations. “We offer resources, tips and a variety of energy efficiency programs. There are also state programs that can help with heating costs. And if you are struggling to pay bills, we encourage you to please reach out to us to enroll in a deferred payment agreement and learn about available financial assistance programs. We’re here to help.”

Assistance available to those struggling with bills
PSEG Long Island wants to work with any customer struggling to pay their bills and help them find a solution. The company encourages anyone with a past-due account balance to visit psegliny.com/assistance, access assistance resources through the PSEG Long Island mobile app, or call 1-800-490-0025 so a representative can help them develop a deferred payment agreement tailored to the needs of their household.

PSEG Long Island also offers its Residential Energy Affordability Partnership Program, a free program for income-eligible customers. A REAP technician will visit, conduct a free home energy survey and may install energy-saving measures. To learn more, visit psegliny.com/REAP.

Additionally, PSEG Long Island wants to help customers unable to attend its community events be aware of the financial assistance programs offered by New York State:

  • The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can provide a heating fuel grant to eligible homeowners and renters depending on income, household size and how they heat their home. A family of four may have a maximum gross monthly income of $6,680 and still qualify for benefits. This benefit is tentatively scheduled to open on Nov. 17. For more information, visit https://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/.
  • Emergency HEAP, a subset of the HEAP program, offers eligible customers a grant to help low- and middle-income New Yorkers avoid having their home heating disconnected or if they are running low or are out of their deliverable heat source (i.e. fuel oil, kerosene or propane). This emergency portion of HEAP is tentatively scheduled to open on Jan. 2, 2026. If customers are experiencing an emergency, they can apply for this benefit by reaching out to their local Department of Social Services location, which can be found here: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/contacts/ There is only one emergency HEAP benefit currently planned for this winter season.

Customers who applied for and received HEAP last year are eligible for PSEG Long Island’s Household Assistance Program. If they submit a copy of their last HEAP benefit as proof, the Household Assistance Program can provide a discount of up to $78 per month for the next 18 months, offsetting some other state and federal benefits that might be delayed. Customers can apply for the Household Assistance Program online here. Customers who do not or cannot receive one of these state and federal benefits can apply for the Household Assistance Program in other ways. More information is available at psegliny.com/assistance. Customers can also call PSEG Long Island’s Consumer Advocacy Line at 631-755-3407 or email Consumeradvocacyli@psegliny.com

How all customers can lower their bills

  • Seal windows and doorframes with weather stripping or caulk, and remove or cover window air conditioners to help to prevent drafts that waste energy and money.

  • Ceiling fans can be used to save energy in winter. Setting a fan to rotate clockwise on low pulls cool air toward the ceiling, pushing warm air down into a room.

  • Lower your thermostat by just one degree to potentially reduce your heating bill. Lowering it two degrees during the day and five to 10 degrees at night will save even more.

  • Use a programmable thermostat.
ENERGY STAR® estimates that homes with high heating and cooling bills, as well as homes that are unoccupied for much of the day, can save approximately $100 a year with an ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostat. In addition, PSEG Long Island offers rebates on smart thermostats.

  • Replace inefficient incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs since, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, lighting accounts for about 15% of the electricity used in the home, and LEDs use up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer.

  • Customers on Time-of-Day rates can run the dishwasher, clothes dryer and other high-energy-use appliances outside of peak hours.

  •  Customers on Time-of-Day rates can charge electric vehicles to run outside of peak hours.

  • Install a high efficiency air source heat pump (ASHP) to lower energy usage in cold and hot months. Rebates are available from PSEG Long Island.

More money-saving ideas and rebate information are available at psegliny.com/saveenergyandmoney/energystarrebates.

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind., Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Maple Creek Energy LLC (“Maple Creek”) has secured an agreement to purchase a GE Vernova 7HA.03 gas turbine in a single shaft configuration and services for its natural gas project, developed by Advanced Power and BDC Power Holdings LLC, a Bechtel company (“Bechtel”). This agreement, along with existing permits, land control, and transmission interconnection queue position, provides for an advantaged construction execution timeline, allowing for power generation export as early as 2029. ArcLight Capital Partners, a value-added infrastructure investor focused on assets critical to electrification and the digital economy, is the owner of Maple Creek and is funding the equipment procurement.

Located in MISO Zone 6, Maple Creek will deploy the 7HA.03 gas turbine, generator and associated equipment to deliver approximately 640 megawatts (MW) of reliable, dispatchable electricity, enough to power more than 630,000 homes in the United States. These turbines offer high efficiency, rapid ramp-up capabilities, and proven reliability, making them ideal for supporting hyperscale data centers, utilities, and other large-scale energy consumers.

The project will utilize lower-carbon natural gas and recovered steam in a combined-cycle configuration to deliver flexible, more sustainable energy to the MISO grid. Bechtel Infrastructure & Power Corporation has been selected as the EPC contractor, further reinforcing the project’s execution strength.

Major Milestone for Project Certainty and Grid Security

Securing GE Vernova’s power generation equipment eliminates a critical development risk: long-lead equipment procurement, at a time when global supply chain constraints continue to challenge other new generation projects. MISO projects an increase of up to 30 gigawatts (GW) in additional demand over the next decade, driven by ongoing factors such as the onshoring of manufacturing, continued electrification of the economy, and now, advancements in centers in the digital economy. We believe Maple Creek is uniquely positioned to meet this surge with scalable, lower-carbon power sooner than other proposed projects.

“Developing these grid-scale generation projects typically takes years, and this agreement with GE Vernova marks a pivotal milestone in the execution of a project that began in 2021. Maple Creek will soon be ready to deliver reliable, dispatchable power to one of the fastest-growing load centers in the country,” said Advanced Power’s CEO Tom Spang. “Advanced Power’s depth of experience in developing CCGT facilities will strive to deliver a project designed for speed, flexibility, and performance – exactly what Indiana utilities and hyperscalers need to support growing demands for power and grid reliability.”

“GE Vernova is honored that Advanced Power and BDC Power Holdings LLC have selected to develop the Maple Creek project with our most advanced 7HA.03 gas turbine technology, a testament to our commitment to helping accelerate new generation capacity to support demand growth in the United States,” said Dave Ross, President & CEO, GE Vernova’s Gas Power business in the Americas.

Maple Creek is part of Advanced Power’s broader development portfolio, which includes more than 12 GW of thermal and renewable generation projects and over 9 GWh of energy storage.

Teamsters Demand Action on Environmental Health from County Leadership

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Environmental Health Specialists in Los Angeles County, represented by Teamsters Local 986, are warning of a severe staffing shortfall that is impeding inspections, public outreach, and essential health-safety work. With nearly 50 percent of positions vacant in the Environmental Health Department in the County’s Public Health Agency, remaining staff are stretched thin, and critical services are at risk.

Workers are demanding that the county increase staffing and focus on stability.

“Environmental health is about partnership — helping businesses and communities understand how to stay compliant and safe,” said Judith Serlin, a Local 986 business representative. “When we focus too much on enforcement without education, we lose trust and effectiveness.”

The shortage has already led to fewer inspections, slower responses, and diminished community engagement. Teamsters are calling on county officials to act now — fill the vacancies, restore leadership stability, and reaffirm a mission grounded in partnership and prevention.

Teamsters Local 986 represents nearly 30,000 members across the western United States, Hawaii, and Guam. For more information, visit local986.org.

  • “What charities would you recommend based on my past grant activity?”
  • “Help me find charities that support the environment within 50 miles of Denver, Colorado.”
  • Set up a monthly recurring $100 grant to the Wounded Warrior Project.”
  • “Contribute 100 shares of NVDA stock to my DAF.”
  • “Add one of my children to my DAF.”
  • “How much has my family granted to charity over the last 6 months?”

By merging intelligence with action, Louise cuts out administrative work so donors can focus on  the joy of giving and making a philanthropic impact.

Louise is now available to donors using TIFIN Give. Learn more at tifin.com/give.

Veteran consumer packaged goods executive brings decades of consulting experience to minority-controlled exchange initiative

CHICAGO, Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Dream Exchange announced today that Elwood Blackwell has made a strategic investment in the company. Blackwell brings more than three decades of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry, where he has advised companies on growth strategy, market expansion, and operational efficiency.

“I learned about Dream Exchange through a conversation with a colleague at Procter & Gamble,” Blackwell said. “The more I learned about what they were building, the more it aligned with where I wanted to focus my resources as an individual investor.”

Throughout his career, Blackwell has worked with consumer packaged goods companies at various stages of development as well as building his own businesses. His past consulting work has given him direct exposure to the challenges businesses face when seeking growth capital, particularly those without access to venture capital connections.

“I have spent years watching companies with strong fundamentals struggle to access the capital they needed to scale,” Blackwell said. “I reached a point where I wanted to be part of building solutions rather than just observing the problems.”

Joe Cecala, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dream Exchange, welcomed Blackwell’s investment.

“We are grateful for Elwood’s confidence in what we are building,” Cecala said. “His investment reflects a growing recognition that the current market structure is not serving everyone it should. We need investors who understand that fixing this is not charity. It is good business.”

Blackwell’s investment reflects his commitment to applying his industry experience as an investor with the aim to create opportunity for underserved communities. “Success brings responsibility,” Blackwell said. “I have been fortunate in my career, and now I want to use that experience and those resources to support infrastructure that can open doors for others. Dream Exchange is working to build that infrastructure.”

Dwain Kyles, Managing Member of DX Capital Partners, emphasized that investor support strengthens Dream Exchange’s mission to provide alternative market infrastructure.

“This is about building something that has never existed before. That takes capital, it takes time, and it takes people who believe the work is worth doing. Elwood is one of those people, and we are proud to have his support,” Kyles said.

Through its Industry Forward® program, the trusted manufacturer gives $21,185 grant to raise awareness among young learners

AMBLER, Pa., Oct. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Bradford White Corporation, an industry-leading manufacturer of water heaters, boilers and storage tanks, announces the renewal of its partnership with Explore The Trades through its Industry Forward® program, marking the third consecutive year of collaboration.

As part of this ongoing commitment to workforce development, Bradford White has awarded a $21,185.48 grant to help expand Explore The Trades’ educational outreach and raise awareness of rewarding careers in the skilled trades.

The grant will directly support Explore The Trades’ poster kit program, an initiative launched in 2021 to inspire the next generation of plumbing, HVAC and electrical professionals. Distributed to school counselors, educators and workforce agencies across the United States and Canada, the poster kits show students why the trades matter, helping foster connections between schools and industry employers.

“There is a growing technical skills gap across the trades, making it essential to educate and to raise awareness,” said Neal Heyman, senior director of marketing at Bradford White. “That’s what Explore The Trades is doing, promoting diversity within the residential services field. Our ongoing partnership with them is an investment in the future of the skilled trades workforce.”

As of Sept. 18, 2025, the poster kit program has distributed nearly 4,900 kits to more than 2,800 schools, workforce agencies and home service companies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four Canadian provinces. Through these efforts, more than 980,000 students have been introduced to educational and career pathways that extend beyond the traditional four-year college track.

“Through our shared mission with Bradford White, we’re expanding awareness of the trades and of vocational training to more students, communities and languages,” said Kate Cinnamo, executive director at Explore The Trades. “This funding is critical as we develop additional Spanish-language materials and illustrated resources, all with the ultimate goal of seeing more young learners connect with jobs that make a difference.”

Bradford White’s Industry Forward® program supports nonprofits and technical institutions in promoting skilled trades careers and highlighting their essential role in community well-being. Through targeted grant funding, the program advances workforce training, education and industry engagement initiatives.
