In September, the United States observes National Preparedness Month 2024 to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for natural disasters and other emergencies. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the observance, which was established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide individuals, communities and organizations with actions and tools to prepare for crises such as earthquakes, winter storms, hurricanes, extreme heat and fires.

A key component of Sands’ commitment to ensuring the strength and vitality of its regions is helping them prepare for these crisis situations in partnership with disaster relief organizations. For the past four years, global health-focused relief and development organization Americares has been a key Sands Cares partner in that effort.

Sands initially worked with Americares to strengthen its emergency response capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region and expanded support for the relief organization to include the United States in 2023. In year one of the current two-year engagement, Americares was able to initiate new work in the Greater New York/Tri-State area, where Sands hopes to build its next world-class integrated resort.

Sands Cares’ support enabled Americares to recruit 25 new Global Roster members, including nurses, physicians, safety and security officers, mental health and psychosocial support specialists and pharmacists, from the Tri-State area and host its first-ever, in-person Global Roster onboarding training this past May on Long Island, New York. Fifteen new Global Roster members received training on the organization’s emergency response interventions, deployment processes, equipment, training and engagement, and the new Americares Global Roster Portal.

Many of the new Global Roster members attended an additional in-person EMT Training in Stamford, Connecticut, in June. The three-day event allowed these Global Roster members to set up and break down a WHO-EMT base camp and clinic; receive training on safety and security processes, referral pathways and reporting; and benefit from hands-on networking with nearly 70 attendees from Americares and across the Global Roster.

The current Sands Cares grant also continued support for Americares Asia Regional Response Hub in the Philippines, enabling deployment of 62 emergency response team members for 337 days across a number of incidents, including Typhoon Doksuri, which affected China, Palau, Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam in June 2023, and the Surigao del Sur earthquake, which impacted the Philippines and Indonesia in December 2023.

These deployments included specialized training and implementations in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); mobile medical units; psychological first aid and health facility strengthening.

The Sands Cares funding also facilitated recruiting and retention efforts for Americares emergency response roster (ERT) in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization recruited 87 roster members and conducted specialty training programs in WASH as well as basic emergency response for newly recruited members.

Finally, Sands Cares’ support empowered the organization’s general outreach efforts, which resulted in 354 roster members creating accounts on the new Americares Global Roster Portal this year, and aided infrastructure upgrades, such as integration of two new learning management system modules focusing on partner interaction and international humanitarian standards.

“Thanks to Sands’ generous support, we have greatly strengthened our emergency response capabilities in these regions and accelerated our roster member recruitment, retention and training programs,” said Provash Budden, Americares deputy senior vice president of emergency programs. “Moving forward, we will continue this momentum with plans for a number of training and engagement activities that will help us carry out our mission of saving lives and improving health for people affected by poverty or disaster.”

In the United States, funding from the Sands Cares grant for year two now focuses on the Gulf Coast, with efforts concentrated on building emergency response capabilities in Texas and Louisiana.

Sands’ latest contribution to Americares extended the previous Sands Cares engagement that began in 2020 and supported the organization’s first regional response hub in the Philippines. The grant enabled an increase in the organization’s regional emergency roster from 20 to more than 180 members between 2020-2022. As part of that initial Sands Cares engagement, Americares conducted its first large-scale emergency simulation exercise at the Philippines regional hub.

Sands’ partnership with Americares is one of several Sands Cares engagements with emergency response and relief organizations in its local communities to support on-the-ground disaster response, as well as infrastructure and planning investments that aid community resilience when crises occur.

Each high school will receive $25,000 and a home game celebration this season as the finalists compete for the grad prize of a multi-million-dollar 5G football field upgrade

BELLEVUE, Wash., October 15, 2024 /3BL/ – T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) announced the Top 16 finalists in its Friday Night 5G Lights competition, which saw more than 1,700 high schools from small towns in all 50 states compete for a chance to win a game-changing 5G technology upgrade for their football fields. The remaining 16 finalists will each receive a $25,000 grant for their school, along with an epic T-Mobile celebration at an upcoming home football game where the Un-carrier will be onsite with games, giveaways and free food at the concession stands.

“Small town America went all out for Friday Night 5G Lights,” said Jon Freier, President, T-Mobile Consumer Group. “This competition truly showcases what makes small towns so special and the incredible sense of community that exists in these areas. We’re excited to see which school will walk away with the grand prize and the ultimate 5G-powered game night experience, bringing their community together like never before.”

The finalists move onto the final face-off, where people across the country will help decide which deserving high school will win an extraordinary $2 million grand prize to upgrade one small town’s pride and joy: its high school football field. The grand prize includes a $100,000 grant for the school, weight room from GronkFitness.com, new teched-out scoreboard, consultation with football field experience experts, 5G network upgrades package and an epic tailgate party celebration with live music and a 5G-powered halftime drone show. Whew!

Meet the Top 16 Contenders

The Friday Night 5G Lights finalists were each selected for their immense pride in their hometown and a compelling story for how an Un-carrier-style upgrade would transform their high school football stadium and local community. These are the Top 16:

Beaumont United High School (Beaumont, Texas): The Timberwolves know hard work pays off and are hoping to transform their playing field and improve the game experience for players and fans after being impacted by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and Imelda in 2019.Crest Ridge High School (Centerview, Mo.): Located an hour east of Kansas City in the small town of Centerview, Missouri, lie the Crest Ridge Cougars. As a vital part of the community, the Cougars are seeking vital upgrades to their football field and facilities, including updated lighting, new turf, a new track, renovated press box and locker room to increase player safety and wellness and restore community pride for years to come.Dumas High School (Dumas, Texas): Located just north of Amarillo, Texas, is the home of the Dumas Demons, ready to bring the competition and give their 57-year-old stadium an upgrade that includes new seating, stadium lighting, technology and amenities.Greenwood High School (Greenwood, Ark.): Based just south of Fort Smith in Greenwood, Arkansas, the Greenwood Bulldogs are 11-time state football championship winners, the last being in 2023. They hope to create a state-of-the-art facility by upgrading seating, turf, technology and increasing accessibility that will serve the needs of their students, families and the community.Hughson High School (Hughson, Calif.): Known for its vast orchards of almonds and walnuts, the northern California town is home to the 1997 and 2022 State Champion Hughson Huskies. With a football program nearly 100 years old, this community football program is rich in tradition and celebrates championship teams for life. The football field is the home for many activities beyond football and needs a new scoreboard, upgrades to both the locker room and weight room and updated bathrooms.Inola High School (Inola, Okla.): Known as the “Hay Capital of the World” and home of the Longhorns, Inola, Oklahoma embodies the heart and soul of small-town Friday night lights football. The funding would not only breathe new life into the football program by replacing badly worn turf but would also replace and upgrade workout equipment and gear used daily by hundreds of students. The equipment has endured countless games and supported all Inola athletes since the 1980s, and updates would ensure that future generations of athletes can pursue their dreams with pride.Loveland High School (Loveland, Colo.): Known as the “Outdoor Sculpture Capitol of Colorado” and home to the Red Wolves, the team is seeking vital infrastructure upgrades to the field’s lighting, bleachers and sound system that will completely transform their athletic departments and allow the Red Wolves the ability to host home games that will bring the entire Loveland community together.Manchester West High School (Manchester, N.H.): Based in southern New Hampshire, the Manchester West Blue Knights seek to make an even bigger impact on the field and community with the addition of home and visitor facilities, a new sound system, a weight room renovation and new community green space, all while still providing resources to youth football players to support the future of the game.Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (Faribault, Minn.): Hailing from Faribault, Minnesota, the MSAD Trojans are all about school spirit, with students from all corners of Minnesota coming together to achieve their goals and prepare for life after graduation. The Trojans are seeking a new scoreboard to provide better accessibility for deaf spectators, new bleachers, a new concession stand and upgrades to both the team and visitor locker rooms.Paradise High School (Paradise, Calif.): Located in northern California, the Paradise Bobcats and community show resiliency, determination and heart as they continue to rebuild after the devastating Camp Fire in 2018. Rebuilding the concession stand, upgrading the lighting, ADA access and improving parking and seating would make a tremendous difference to the school and community.Ridgeview High School (Redmond, Ore.): Located in central Oregon, Ridgeview is home to beautiful, majestic mountain views in Oregon’s high desert. The region is a haven for nature lovers and thrill-seekers. Ridgeview High School says it would greatly benefit by being able to create an improved game-day experience for athletes, fans and guests.Saks High School (Anniston, Ala.): Located just east of Birmingham, Alabama, the Saks Wildcats have a need to improve outdated seating, install energy-efficient lighting and create ADA-compliant areas so they will be ready to tackle adversity head on and lead the team to more victories.Salisbury High School (Salisbury, N.C.): As the second oldest functioning school building in North Carolina at 99 years old, Salisbury would be able to upgrade the current lighting system on the field, so it is safe and welcoming for all who use it, whether for athletic competitions, community gatherings or youth programs.Superior Junior/Senior High School (Superior, Ariz.): Centered in a small mining town east of the Phoenix, the Superior Panthers understand the hard work and determination it takes to lead their community to victory. Upgrades to the fields, lights and a new weight room would make a huge impact on the school and community.Ware Junior/Senior High School (Ware, Mass.): With a town population of approximately 10,000, the school’s upgrade would provide much-needed support to a small, proud and high-achieving football community that could greatly benefit from updated lights on the field and provide the necessary resources to start the process of improving the fan experience with more seating and permanent bathrooms.Warren Central High School (Bowling Green, Ky.): Home of the fire-breathing Warren Dragons, this football team is resilient, dedicated and ready to go for victory, seeking upgrades to its weight room, press box technology, scoreboard and team meeting spaces for all student-athletes and coaches across all sports programs to benefit from.

An additional 300 schools each walked away from Friday Night 5G Lights with $5,000 through T-Mobile’s $5K Fridays. The giveaway — which totals $1.5 million — ran through the competition’s six-week entry period to give high schools nationwide some extra cash for the project of their choice.

Choosing the Champion

Now, you — yes, you, America — have the power to help crown the winner. Here’s how. From now until Nov. 12, anyone in the U.S. can head to www.FridayNight5GLights.com to learn more about the Top 16 high schools and their stories via a 90-second Instagram video from each finalist. Just hit that heart on your favorite school and your vote is in.

There is no limit to how many times you and your community can share the video on all your social channels, so start spreading the word for your favorite school! The high school with the most-liked video will be crowned as the ultimate Friday Night 5G Lights champion and score the grand prize package. Results will be announced in early December.

In addition to the Instagram video, each school will participate in a day of giving back to a local food bank before Nov. 12. Through its partnership with Feeding America, T-Mobile will help identify local food banks near each of the Top 16 schools to host these drives. According to Feeding America, some of the most severe levels of food insecurity are found in rural communities — 9 out of 10 counties with the highest rates of food insecurity are rural. This effort not only combats food insecurity in communities near each of the Top 16 finalists, but also boosts team spirit as students work together to make a difference.

“It’s been incredible to see the excitement and community spirit pouring in from schools all over the country,” said Rob Gronkowski. “Friday nights truly unite people and watching the creative ways people show their school pride has been amazing. I can’t wait for the next stage of the competition and to see how the Top 16 finalists step up their game for their shot at the grand prize.”

T-Mobile’s Ongoing Commitment to Small Towns

Showing love to small towns is nothing new for T-Mobile. Since its 5G for All commitment to bring the most advanced wireless services to rural America in April 2021, T-Mobile has made incredible progress as the nation’s largest and fastest 5G network.

T-Mobile has invested over $14 million in small towns across the nation through Hometown Grants and has connected over 6 million students through Project 10Million, T-Mobile’s $10.7 billion initiative offering connectivity for eligible student families across the country. The Un-carrier has also opened nearly 600 stores in small towns while expanding its network to bring more than 500,000 square miles of 5G coverage to rural areas — now covering more than 98% of Americans across 2 million square miles. Plus, T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and Business Internet give homes and businesses across the country access to reliable and affordable broadband options.

Friday Night 5G Lights is yet another way T-Mobile is strengthening its connection with small towns, bringing communities together under the bright lights of local football fields while showcasing the power and potential of 5G.

I can’t wait to see how the work we’re doing today contributes to the cars my children drive tomorrow.

When I was a child, my dream car was always red, fast and fun to drive. Now, like a lot of people, my dream car starts with the future in mind. Not only is my ideal car safe, reliable, comfortable, connected and still fun to drive, but it also contributes to a net zero, circular world.

As part of Dow’s MobilityScience™ team, I have the privilege of working alongside original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tiers and others on the front line of the automotive industry to help accelerate a smarter, safer and more sustainable vision for mobility. Using our materials and application expertise, our team is constantly innovating to help the automotive industry address the triple goals of climate protection, circular economy, and safer materials across a vehicle’s life cycle – through design, production, use and end of life.

We believe Dow has the opportunity and responsibility to lead change in all industries that we participate in when it comes to climate protection. Through our Protect the Climate commitments, we are making good progress to decarbonize our manufacturing facilities while developing innovative products to support our customers’ efforts to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

In the automotive industry, it starts with the carbon footprint of a car. OEMs focus on carbon emissions during manufacturing and use. As a materials science leader, Dow can help enable not just EV production but also reduce the embedded carbon used to make those materials.

Improving battery performance

One of the critical challenges the industry faces is improving battery performance. Electrification is a “must-do” to reduce carbon emissions in the environment, and the battery is a key component of electrification – the new lifeblood of the vehicle.

To address safe, optimal battery performance, thermal management is important. We have a broad array of proven thermal interface solutions, from silicones to polyurethanes, that leverage our materials science knowledge and industry expertise to drive forward both electric and hybrid vehicle battery pack development. These solutions can contribute to longer-range, better-performing and more economical electric and hybrid vehicles – and a net-zero future.

I have long believed that the dreams you imagine have the power to change the future. I am proud to help our customers power the future with solutions that are driving the transition to low- and zero-emission, energy-efficient and affordable vehicles. I can’t wait to see how the work we’re doing today contributes to the cars my children drive tomorrow.

Selamawit Belli, MobilityScience™ PU Strategic Market Leader

This HBCU Week, which took place September 15 – 21, we’re shining a spotlight on our partnership with local Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and Delaware State University (DSU).

We work closely with HBCU leaders to provide programming and financial support that expands educational opportunities for students along with curriculum, internship opportunities and mentorship that help to recruit students to work for Delmarva Power. You can see an example of our DSU Campus takeovers here.

We sat down with Delmarva Power Director of Governmental and External Affairs Marcus Beal and Vice President of Regulatory Strategy and Services Amber Perry, who is also on the UMES Board of Visitors, about how we partner with UMES and our commitment to HBCUs.

Tell us more about the partnership between Delmarva Power and UMES.

(Marcus Beal) Our partnerships are built on strong relationships with leaders at HBCUs so we can help best build the programming that will support the school and its students.

This includes our Power Scholar programs, through which we offer HBCU students scholarship, internship and mentor opportunities. We do a lot of speaking at events on campuses to describe the job opportunities in the energy industry. My career journey is one that resonates with the students I encounter. Being diverse myself it’s helpful for students to see me, someone who looks like them, who started at Delmarva Power and has grown into a leader.

(Amber Perry) Our work with UMES is an important one that is focused on providing exposure and awareness on the various programs the University has to offer beyond the immediate Eastern Shore Community. The partnership has also been important to support students on their educational journey and ensure their success in all possible career routes. We also provide students with summer internship opportunities that help them in the transition from student into the work environment. We’re uniquely positioned to meet the needs of the students given the strength of our workforce development programs, scholars programs, internship and co-op programs and various rotational programs throughout the company.

What are the benefits of UMES and its students?

(AP) As a graduate of an HBCU (Howard University in Washington, DC), I remember the companies who recruited from HBCUs to hire smart, diverse candidates. I believe when a student is looking for their next role, they want a company that is more than just a place of work. They want an environment where they can add value, feel appreciated and know the company is invested in their growth and development —in any field. Our partnership with UMES shows that we are committed and invested in developing future leaders, no matter what degree or career they may pursue.

(MB) We’re offering access and information about careers in energy that some students wouldn’t be seeing otherwise. We want students to realize there is a place for them at Delmarva Power – and we bring that to life through internship programs, through direct mentorship, and ultimately through bringing the students into the Delmarva Power family. Once they get here, we’ve built the training, culture, exposure, development and DEI support that will help them to grow into well-rounded professionals.

What are the benefits of Delmarva Power?

(MB) For us, we’re getting the value of students who have received an incredible education, that will help us to build a diverse workforce of the future. And these diversities aren’t always what you can see – it’s diversity of thoughts, of experience, that will ultimately make our company a stronger place. We’re also building relationships that help to support our DEI programming. For example, we recently had Delaware State University Foundation President Vita Pikrum join our DEI Council meeting to share her perspective.

What does the funding mean to UMES?

(AP) I am on the Board of Visitors at UMES and I see just how far funding can go at universities. I’ve seen it used for everything from improving the student enrollment process, to investing in physical infrastructure across the campus. The University has expanded many of their programs like their Agriculture, Aviation Science and their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programs. They also have established innovative ways of learning such as their esports gaming area.

What are the benefits of an HBCU education?

(AP) My mother worked at Howard University, but I never anticipated I would go there. Until it came time to attend college, and I realized the cost savings of being the child of an employee. I knew it was a smart decision to take advantage of the tuition funding. The richness of the experience I received at Howard could never be replaced or replicated. At Howard I experienced a rich diversity of thought, established a greater sense of excellence and accomplishment and embraced the African Diaspora. I feel privileged and proud to have received the HBCU experience. The intellectual curiosity, agility and resilience that was encouraged by my professors at Howard are critical keys to the leader I am today.

You’re celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Delmarva Power Golf Scholarship Classic this year. How does that feel?

(MB) This is an initiative I’ve worked on for many years and am incredibly proud of how we’ve grown the event, and resulting benefit to schools, each year. Working with our community and business partners, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for students in the region over the course of the event. For UMES, DSU, and other local universities and community colleges, we’ve raised more than $100,000 per year over the past three years.

October 15, 2024 /3BL/ – Despite significant advancements, the world is not currently on track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims for good health and wellbeing. This was made clear in The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2024 which outlined evidence like, deteriorating life expectancy, little change in the world’s maternal mortality ratio, and the fact that efforts to combat communicable diseases had been hampered by inequalities and emerging threats. As progress at the global, regional and personal scale is still needed, TCS, headline partner of the TCS London Marathon and the TCS Mini London Marathon, is working with London Marathon Events to call on youth aged 6 to 17 to participate in the goIT Monthly Challenge for the month of October, Innovate for a Healthier World.

“TCS and London Marathon Events share a desire to see people all over the world choose activities, habits and lifestyles that can improve and protect their health,” said Layla Hall, School Engagement Manager, London Marathon Events. “We’re pleased to bring young people to the table on the topic of health and wellbeing and believe they can be very influential.”

Students are encouraged to generate and present ideas for digital innovations that can improve health and wellbeing for people in their families, personal circles, communities, or all over the world. Among many other possibilities, participants could explore strategies to educate people about self-care and health and fitness; find ways to reduce disparities among people of different genders, races and socio-economic background; or empower individuals to find the information they need to make good nutrition choices.

All entries should demonstrate support for the UN’s SDG 3 and will be judged by industry professionals. Participating students (individuals or teams) in the virtual challenge will compete for prizes, mentoring, future recognition, and more.

The submission deadline is October 31, 2024.

As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, Entergy proudly recognizes the invaluable contributions and rich experiences of Latinos, integral to our nation’s history and culture. Throughout this month, Entergy has collaborated with key Hispanic partners and community leaders to uplift Latino voices and strengthen Hispanic communities across the country.

Here are a few highlights of Entergy’s month-long celebrations:

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Gala

At the Hispanic Chamber Excelencia Gala, Entergy New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana were honored as the Corporate Partner of the Year. This award, presented by the Hispanic Chamber of Louisiana, acknowledges the partnership between Entergy and the chamber in supporting Latino business owners and enhancing the Hispanic community statewide.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference

Last month, Latino leaders from various sectors — including corporations, government and nonprofit organizations — gathered in Washington, D.C., for the 47th annual Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Leadership Conference. This event featured dynamic workshops and plenary sessions that not only celebrated the myriad contributions of Latinos but also addressed the challenges faced by one of the nation’s fastest-growing demographics. Entergy sponsored a pivotal session titled “Uplifting Latino Leaders in Corporate America,” where Patty Riddlebarger, Entergy’s vice president of corporate social responsibility, shared her insights on empowering Latino voices in the business landscape.

“Latinos represent one of the fastest growing demographics in the country. Their representation is crucial for companies that seek to serve this growing market. Corporations that recognize the importance of recruiting and developing Latino talent will benefit from the skills, perspective and experience that they bring to the table. It’s part of developing a competitive advantage,” said Riddlebarger.

Among Entergy’s invited guests were our community partners from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, including:

Sal Avelar, EntrepreneurDanny Balanos, Vice President, The First BankEsperanza Massana Crane, Director of Small Business Entrepreneurship, Arkansas Department of Economic DevelopmentMiguel Lopez, President, Montgomery County Hispanic ChamberAngela Ramirez, Executive Director, Puentes New Orleans

“As a veteran and a Latino, my Hispanic pride comes from a life story that intersects heritage, service and progress, making the Hispanic population a powerful example of what it means to be a proud Hispanic in modern America,” said Lopez.  “Thank you Entergy, for inviting community partners to attend this year’s conference. I was very fortunate to be included.”

In addition to community leaders, the conference also welcomed college students representing the next generation of Latino leaders. This event provided them with a unique opportunity to learn and network with their peers from across the country while visiting our nation’s capital for the first time.

“The conference served as a powerful reminder of the significant contributions Latinos make to this country and affirm to Latino youth that they not only belong here, but that their intellectual potential is one of the greatest assets to the U.S.,” said Ramirez.

Kids to College Hispanic outreach

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, Entergy employees also participated in several outreach initiatives aimed at helping Latino families establish Kids to College savings accounts. Partnering with Puentes, ECCO Community Center, and Esperanza elementary and middle schools, our team provided essential information and assistance to families in opening free my529 college savings accounts for their children.

As we continue to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, Entergy remains committed to honoring the cultural contributions of Latinos and investing in the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can continue to empower our communities and build a brighter future for all.

This summer, FedEx welcomed a diverse and talented cohort of 20 interns from universities across the United States, representing a range of majors including business, marketing, communications, and MBA candidates. The program’s design ensures that each intern not only contributes meaningfully to their host teams but also gains a comprehensive view of what it means to be part of a Fortune 50 company.

From day one, interns dive into meaningful projects across diverse areas, including branding, media relations, and strategic marketing. This year’s interns have tackled assignments that span from website improvements and newsletters to pricing strategies and social media development. The hands-on experience and real-world challenges offer invaluable insights and skill-building opportunities.

Led by our dedicated program leaders, including Randi Taylor, this program goes beyond the traditional internship experience. Our packed summer calendar featured an array of out-of-office events designed to foster connections and explore Memphis. Highlights included networking receptions with FedEx executives, a visit to the Memphis Zoo, and explorations of the National Civil Rights Museum and FedExForum. We also engaged in community service through the FedEx Cares event with the United Service Organization (USO) and toured the FedEx World Hub to witness the company’s operations up close.

As we reflect on the summer, it’s clear that this program is a testament to FedEx’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing a unique career preparation experience. From the engaging projects and enriching events to the supportive mentorship and vibrant community, the FedEx Marketing and Communications internship program continues to stand out as an extraordinary opportunity for career development and growth.

At Maximus, our diversity is the cornerstone of innovation and success. This September, our leaders and employees amplified our outreach efforts, participated in college fairs, and hosted insightful Employee Resource Group (ERG) sessions, all with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs).

“Maximus’ commitment to HBCUs and HSIs is a reflection of its dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace,” said Dr. Arvenita Washington-Cherry, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “These institutions nurture students with unique perspectives, experiences, and skills, which are invaluable to our company. By actively recruiting from HBCUs and HSIs, we’re not just expanding our talent pool; we’re enriching our company culture.”

In addition to highlighting some of our HBCU and HSI graduates, the DE&I team offered online sessions to provide opportunities to network and grow professionally. Every ERG also schedules monthly chats to serve as a safe space for employees to share experiences, learn from one another, and build a sense of community.

“The creation of ERGs and the support DE&I programs receive from our leaders is a testament to the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard,” Cherry explained.

HBCUs and HSIs have a rich history of providing access to high-quality education for students from underrepresented backgrounds. Established during a time when African Americans were largely excluded from higher education, HBCUs have been instrumental in cultivating Black leaders, innovators, and pioneers. Similarly, HSIs have been pivotal in providing educational opportunities to the Hispanic and Latinx communities, fostering growth and success. Both types of institutions have also prepared many others from a variety of backgrounds who come grounded in these values.

Engaging with HBCUs and HSIs isn’t just about recruitment – it’s about investing in communities. Through outreach efforts and participation in college fairs, recruiters educate and provide students with opportunities to learn about our industry, gain real-world insights, and explore potential career paths.

As our DE&I culture continues to grow and evolve, employees are not just celebrating these institutions of higher learning, but also the diversity, innovation, and excellence they bring to our workforce.
