MEMPHIS, Tenn., October 28, 2024 /3BL/ – In celebration of Bat Week, International Paper (IP) and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) are proud to highlight their ongoing efforts to restore important bat habitats through oak regeneration projects in Alabama. As part of the Forestland Stewards Partnership, a long-standing collaboration between IP and NFWF, grants are provided to support the restoration of forest ecosystems, benefiting wildlife like bats that depend on mature oak trees for roosting.

Bats play a critical role in the ecosystem by pollinating plants, and controlling insect populations, especially mosquitoes. However, the bat population has been severely impacted by white-nose syndrome (WNS), a disease that has killed millions of bats over the past decade. Since its discovery in New York in 2006, WNS has spread to 40 states and nine Canadian provinces, with up to 100 percent of bats disappearing in some affected areas.

WNS is caused by a cold-loving fungus that attacks hibernating bats. More than half of the bat species in the U.S. and Canada hibernate during the winter, making them vulnerable to the disease. Without effective solutions, several species are at risk of extinction.

Through the Forestland Stewards Partnership, IP and NFWF are working to restore important habitats, particularly white oak forests, which provide essential shelter and roosting spaces for bat populations. The Alabama Forestry Foundation (AFF), a grant recipient, has spearheaded white oak restoration efforts using sustainable forestry techniques such as midstory removal, which encourages young oak growth and improves the habitat quality for bats and other wildlife.

“This collaboration ensures the future of key species and forests while creating opportunities for landowners to take an active role in conservation. This restoration effort exemplifies the power of collective action for sustainability,” said Sophie Beckham, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at International Paper.

To help private landowners learn these practices, AFF hosts volunteer events to establish and maintain white oak forests, collaborating with foresters and biologists in landowner hands-on experiences that will help bolster bat populations across the region. One volunteer, Lamar Dewberry and his wife Felicia, landowners from Clay County, have attended multiple events and have even been inspired to be more involved. The Dewberrys offered their land, reserving seven of their 70 acres for other landowners to learn and practice white oak regeneration for the wildlife on their lands.

“Being part of this project showed us the direct impact we can have on our land. It’s inspired us to offer more hands-on opportunities for fellow landowners, giving them the tools to improve forest management and habitat restoration.”

He continued, “Seeing firsthand how these practices help restore crucial species like bats has been eye-opening. The collaboration between landowners and conservation experts is key to making a real difference in our environment.”

The Forestland Stewards Partnership has supported critical forest restoration projects that enhance habitats, foster biodiversity, and engage local communities. These collaborative efforts are expected to improve the health of Alabama’s oak forests and benefit species like bats that are essential to the region’s ecosystems.

My name is Amalia Adler-Waxman and I’m SVP Head of Sustainability at Teva. Here are the key trends I’m watching in this area.

1. Voluntary reporting becomes mandatory

For years sustainability has been all about transparency. Reporting is the cornerstone of disclosing why, what and how companies advance their long-term goals. But consistency remains a challenge for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting.

What we now observe is that governments and regulatory bodies worldwide are increasingly creating regulations that will strengthen current disclosure and enhance transparency of companies’ sustainability practices. This shift incentivizes the private sector to improve its sustainability practices and performance. Financial incentives and market pressure from ESG-focused investors and lenders further encourage this trend.

I hope that regulations will drive innovation and enhance long-term risk management as they progress.

2. Integration of sustainability into the business

The responsibility for sustainable practices can no longer fall solely on sustainability teams or units and it is not merely an add-on, nice to have set of activities. Sustainability practices are becoming more complex and regulated and are evolving all the time. This is why sustainability is increasingly becoming part of different functions’ day to day focus.

At Teva, sustainability considerations are being integrated into every aspect of the company. As we say at Teva “Sustainability is everyone’s business”.

Functions are now required to include sustainability considerations in their annual operating plans (AOP) and long-range planning (LRP). This collective effort ensures accountability across the business to achieve sustainability objectives.

3. Real world measurable impact

Today’s stakeholders demand more than just slogans and reports; they want to see the real, measurable, positive, environmental, and societal impact of sustainability efforts.

Companies are now expected to provide concrete data on the outcomes of their sustainability initiatives. This for example could mean detailing how many people were positively impacted through an initiative and in what way.

In conclusion, the sustainability landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by stringent regulations, integrated decision-making processes, and the demand for measurable impact. Companies that embrace these trends will not only comply with emerging regulations but also lead the way in creating a more sustainable healthy future.

PSEG ENERGIZE!

What if the real heroes of our planet aren’t wearing capes, but lab coats and student IDs? You don’t need a magical hammer or web-slinging powers to protect the Earth. Sometimes being a hero can mean working to protect the environment and build a better future for everyone.

We’re investing in the next generation of these real-life Earth heroes by supporting students from New Jersey and funding university programs dedicated to working toward a cleaner energy future.

Together, we’re assembling a super team to help work toward a cleaner future for generations to come.

Earth Heroes, unite!

Stevens the “Sustainability Sentinel”

Every superhero team needs a powerhouse, and in our Earth Heroes Super Team, Stevens Institute of Technology takes on the mantle of the “Sustainability Sentinel.”

This mighty partnership has spanned over two decades and brought in more than $4.8 million in grants, ensuring the Sentinel’s mission to protect the Earth. In our latest epic move, we granted them $1.45 million over the next three years (2024-2026) to fuel an arsenal of programs. These include the Workforce Development Program, the Stevens Center on Sustainability (SCS) and critical pre-college and undergraduate initiatives.

With our help, pre-college students from underserved communities in Hudson, Essex and Union counties will be equipped with scholarships that give them access to transformative summer programs, internships and more. No cost, no barriers — just pure hero training. These young champions are paired with their very own mentors to help them conquer the challenges of college applications and prepare for their journey as full-fledged defenders of the planet.

The Workforce Development Program includes scholarships, mentorships and environmental justice research opportunities.

And finally, the Stevens Center on Sustainability (SCS) will increase access and collaboration among researchers who aim to solve critical sustainability challenges facing humanity.

Stevens the Sustainability Sentinel helps hone each student’s ability to save the planet and with the help of the PSEG Foundation, these heroes have access to resources, funding and career opportunities that empower them to take action to create a more sustainable world—one hero at a time.

Here, the heroes are trained in various essential skills, including plumbing, electrical work, welding and more. Some of these heroes have gone on to secure positions in the Green Trades, helping make the world a bit greener and cleaner one step at a time.

Empowering heroes through HBCUs

Our PSEG Foundation’s $1 million HBCU grant has been a game-changer, bringing more diversity to the STEM battlefield. This initiative gave underrepresented heroes the chance to become a force of champions ready to tackle environmental challenges of the future.

TEMPE, Ariz., October 28, 2024 /3BL/ — A new survey by GoDaddy set out to uncover how much convenience is worth to consumers. It turns out, the answer is not very much.

An overwhelming majority (80%) of 1,500 U.S. consumers surveyed in September say cost savings is more important than convenience, with 42% ranking saving money as their top priority. These cost-conscious consumers are prepared to endure inconveniences to save money this holiday season, highlighting a case for ecommerce businesses to adjust their approach to avoid potentially alienating customers.

Making returns is a bone of contention

Nearly 1 in 3 (30%) consumers find paying for return shipping more annoying than jury duty and going to the DMVThe vast majority (77%) of people often check a business’ return policy before making a purchase, with 1 in 3 Gen Z (31%) and Millennials (35%) doing so before every purchaseA difficult return policy was third among the top reasons why consumers wouldn’t purchase an item from a business via social media*

When consumers are willing to sacrifice convenience

Most (62%) people would rather pay with cash than pay a 3% surcharge to be able to purchase an item with their credit cardThe majority of consumers (69%) said they will still shop at a business even if it doesn’t offer the ability to “Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store”Consumers are more likely to drive themselves to a store (33%) to shop in-person vs. stay home and shop online (30%) this holiday season

There are still some cases when convenience wins out

The majority (63%) of survey respondents report never using personal checks, with only 21% feeling they are convenientAlmost 4 in 10 consumers (38%) would abandon an online purchase if the payment page takes longer than 10 seconds to load

“As holiday shopping begins to ramp up, small businesses need to take a look at the ways they could be inadvertently turning customers away,” said GoDaddy Trends Expert Amy Jennette. “Do you have an extended return policy during the holidays? Do you charge for return shipping? Can consumers buy items online and pick them up in your store to avoid shopping rushes? If not, there’s still time to make adjustments.”

When it comes to prioritizing cost savings above convenience, younger generations seem to be experiencing a notable shift in mindset.

Gen Z is the most likely to shop around if a business doesn’t offer the ease of in-store pickup. When asked if they have ever not shopped with a business because it didn’t offer Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store:

Gen Z – 41% said yesMillennials – 36% said yesGen X and Boomers – 25% said yes

Gen Z and Millennials are more likely to pay extra just to use a credit card. When asked if they’d be willing to pay a 3% surcharge to be able to purchase a product or service with a credit card:

Gen Z – 43% said yesMillennials – 45% said yesGen X and Boomers – 34% said yes

When asked about how long they would wait for a website to load before changing their mind about a purchase:

Gen Z – 47% would not wait 10 secondsMillennials – 45% would not wait 10 secondsGen X and Boomers – 68% would wait 30 seconds

Gen Z and Millennials are more likely than older generations to shop online vs. in-person this holiday season:

Gen Z – 32% said they’re more likely to shop online compared to 30% in-personMillennials – 31% said they’re more likely to shop online compared to 30% in-personGen X and Boomers– 36% said they’re more likely to shop in-person compared to 29% online

With some of the largest online shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday quickly approaching, small businesses that cater to Gen Z and/or Millennials in particular should look for ways to provide convenient shopping experiences for consumers.

GoDaddy helps entrepreneurs run their business efficiently and offers smart point-of-sale terminals to meet consumer conveniences like Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store and Tap-to-Pay, while supporting streamlined small business capabilities like real-time inventory management across online and in-person sales.

Addition of two models for power options of 20kW and 30kW at 500V increases range of applications to enhance high power systems innovationBoosts testing capability on the discharge and charge of batteries at successive constant power levels with power priority added

SANTA ROSA, Calif., October 28, 2024 /3BL/ – Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), has expanded its regenerative power system series with two new models, supporting power options of 20kW and 30kW at 500V. In addition, the release is enhanced with power priority that allows users to program the output power seamlessly across the zero point when transitioning between positive and negative.

As electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy systems continue to evolve, the demand for robust testing equipment is increasingly critical. The 500V models enable engineers to implement higher current and power solutions to support a wider range of applications, including battery-powered solutions in agriculture, residential energy storage, and compact transportation such as e-scooters, e-bikes, and motorcycles.

The Keysight RP7900 series regenerative power system is a family of bi-directional, regenerative DC power supplies with highly integrated safety features. The regenerative capability enables the power normally consumed to be returned to the grid cleanly, saving costs associated with energy consumption and cooling.

Key benefits of the regenerative power system series include:

Enables smooth transitions: Easier to switch between sourcing and sinking without affecting the power supply’s output characteristics.Increased safety protection: The solid-state output disconnect switch provides rapid protection and smooth on/off transitions upon fault detection.Flexible voltage and current combinations: The auto-ranging capability provides a broad spectrum of voltage and current combinations within a single power supply, enabling engineers to adapt to fluctuating test requirements without changing equipment.Enhanced testing speed: With a command-processing time of less than 1 millisecond, the solution boosts testing throughput, enabling engineers to obtain faster results and enhance efficiency.Ensures highly accurate testing: The concurrent voltage and current measurement capabilities deliver high precision and resolution testing, empowering engineers to validate their designs with confidence and to optimize performance.

Michael Reser, Automotive and Energy Solution EV Segment Director at Keysight, said: “The ability to test EV batteries is critical to supporting future innovation. At Keysight we are committed to providing the tools needed to build better batteries faster, while ensuring performance and safety. By expanding our product line to test at 500V, we are continuing to deliver on this while supporting a wider range of use cases to keep pace with the rapidly evolving EV market.”
