By 2030, Dow and Ambipar aspire to lead polyethylene recycling in Brazil, increasing operations from 2,000 tons to 60,000 tons per year

SÃO PAULO, November 25, 2024 /3BL/ – Dow (NYSE: DOW), a leader in material science, and Ambipar, a Brazilian multinational and global leader in environmental solutions, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore innovative business opportunities that leverage the value of post-consumer plastic waste, transforming it into new products in the Latin American region. This partnership aims to create an effective platform for plastic recycling and boost the recycling and waste management system in Brazil. From the MoU, Dow and Ambipar intend to join their business intelligence with the goal of capturing post-consumer plastic materials, such as municipal solid waste, and transform them into products that incorporate plastic material to meet the growing demand for circular solutions. By 2030, Dow and Ambipar aspire to lead polyethylene recycling in Brazil, increasing operations from 2,000 tons per year to 60,000 tons per year. The partnership will facilitate business expansion, reinforcing the integration between the value chain to drive the circular economy of plastic.

The preliminary assessment involves a phased approach over the next five years to build new Mechanical Recycling facilities, employing the most efficient technology and transforming 80,000 tons of plastic waste into approximately 60,000 tons per year of post-consumer resin (PCR). This progression seeks long-term success, which will serve as a model for advanced recycling processes and technologies.

The MoU includes plans to develop a detailed financial model for end-to-end mechanical recycling, considering all aspects, from waste costs and logistics to the incorporation of recycled content into plastic materials. This will support the assessment of the recycled product development capacity, ensuring the use of the most effective technology to meet the growing market demand.

“This partnership marks a significant step towards a sustainable business model in Brazil, where post-consumer plastic waste is transformed into valuable resources, driving the circular economy in our region,” says Leticia Jensen, vice president of Packaging and Specialty Plastics for Dow Latin America. “By leveraging our combined expertise, we intend to transform the recycling market in Brazil, enhancing the value of plastic waste and transforming it into high-quality products. Today, with Ambipar, we are setting new standards for the industry,” concludes Jensen.

Transforming waste into opportunities
“Together, with this innovative partnership, we are setting a new standard in circular business models,” says Adriano Pereira, head of Circular Economy and Transformation Industry at Ambipar. “Ambipar’s pioneering approach to total waste management and its valorization, anchored in a strong commitment to sustainability, especially through Circular Engineering and Reverse Logistics, aligns with Dow’s bold ambitions, demonstrating a strong engagement in providing circular solutions for packaging and product manufacturers, brand owners, and consumers,” emphasizes Pereira.

This alliance is set to develop the first integrated center for the circular economy of polyethylene plastics in Brazil, focusing on transforming post-consumer waste into new products, setting a precedent for circular business models in the region and on a large scale.

“Our collaboration with Ambipar is a testament to our commitment to a sustainable business model and how we can work together as a materials ecosystem, partnering for the first time with a leader in waste management to drive polyethylene recycling in Brazil and create an established circular economy for plastic waste,” shares Sabine Rossi, sustainability director for Packaging and Specialty Plastics at Dow Latin America.

“At Ambipar, we see this collaboration with Dow as a milestone in our journey towards circularity and waste valorization. It is much more than a commercial partnership; it is a synergy of values and a shared commitment to pioneering a more circular present and future for plastic. Our expertise in environmental management and circular solutions, combined with Dow’s competence in material science, will unlock new possibilities in the recycling sector and beyond. We aim not only to transform waste into resources but also to reshape how society thinks about the circular economy and our environment,” says Rafael Tello, vice president of Sustainability at Ambipar.

When we received the email that the Global Future Leaders were heading to Beijing, excitement was off the charts. Between info sessions, visa appointments, and packing our bags, the energy was electric. We knew this trip wasn’t just any trip—it was going to be the adventure of a lifetime, packed with new experiences and unforgettable memories.

Lenovo’s Global Future Leaders Program is a dynamic five-year rotational experience, designed to give participants hands-on exposure to various roles across the company. Through these rotations, we can deepen our understanding of Lenovo’s business and operations while honing our leadership skills through a mix of specialized training, both domestically and internationally.

And that brings me to why we were in Beijing. For the first time in the history of Lenovo’s Global Future Leaders Program, participants from all over the world were gathered in one place! It was a truly special moment, and we were determined to make the most of it. The trip centered around our Building Collaboration training, designed to showcase how our unique skills and perspectives come together to drive teamwork and innovation.

The moment we arrived, we couldn’t wait to meet the friends we’d only known through virtual calls (due to COVID-19), finally in person. Our excitement grew when we were greeted by the impressive rock-climbing wall in the building’s foyer—naturally, we all stopped to snap some photos. On our first day, we were taken to the new Lenovo Global Learning Center, a cutting-edge space designed to foster learning and collaboration. This state-of-the-art facility was the ideal setting for our workshops and training sessions.

On our first day of training, we had the opportunity to think both ‘inside the box’ and ‘outside the box’ with our facilitator, Jimbo Clark. He guided us through exercises designed to shift our mindsets and create positive changes in both our personal and professional lives. The session helped us gain clarity on what truly matters to us, what we love about ourselves, how we show up for others, and whether we embrace risk in our decision-making.

On the second day of training, we dove into Lenovo’s AI initiatives, learning directly from leaders who are driving these projects forward. We had the unique opportunity to ask questions and receive valuable advice from top executives during a leadership panel. It was an incredible experience to gain insights from those who have spent years at the company, hearing their perspectives on what they find most rewarding about their work. That evening, we had the opportunity to sit down for a traditional Chinese roundtable dinner with several executives, where we engaged in smaller, more intimate Q&A sessions with each of them.

We then took a day trip to Tianjin, another vibrant city in China, to explore Lenovo’s Smart Manufacturing initiatives and visit one of the company’s Future Centers. The experience was truly eye-opening, offering a deeper understanding of Lenovo’s rich history and its leadership in technology and innovation. We gained valuable insights into the company’s servers, supply chain operations, and how these advancements directly impact our everyday roles.

On our final day, we set out to explore the beauty of Beijing’s summer with a group field trip. We toured two of the city’s most iconic landmarks—the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven—checking off some major items from my bucket list. A few of us even made it to the Great Wall and the Summer Palace, creating unforgettable memories. It was a true bonding experience, the kind of trip you never want to end because the company was just that good.

Throughout the range of excursions and activities organized by the Global Future Leaders Program in Beijing, we gained far more than just cultural experiences—we developed a deeper understanding of how to truly collaborate as a global team. Being together in person allowed us to explore not just each other’s job roles, but the varied perspectives and skills each of us brings to the table. The program gave us space to reflect on how we can leverage our diverse backgrounds and talents to drive future success, both individually and as a team.

We realized that effective collaboration goes beyond just working together; it’s about understanding the strengths and approaches of others and finding ways to complement and enhance one another’s contributions. This experience not only helped us bond on a personal level but also laid the foundation for stronger professional partnerships as we look ahead. The insights we gained will no doubt shape how we work as a cohesive, forward-thinking team in the future.

Last but certainly not least, a huge thank you to Joe and Lee for organizing such an unforgettable trip! Your hard work and coordination made this experience possible.

Watch the video above to see some fun moments from the trip.

MEMPHIS, Tenn., November 25, 2024 /3BL/ – FedEx has been named a 2024 “Top Company for Women to Work in Transportation” by Redefining the Road, the official magazine of Women In Trucking Association (WIT). WIT’s mission is to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments, and minimize the obstacles they face.

“FedEx, which was founded on a people and service philosophy, is proud to support a diverse workforce full of exceptional women who work in roles across the company, including drivers, freight handlers, leadership, and everywhere in between,” said Tracy Brightman, executive vice president and chief people officer, FedEx Corp. “The company supports gender diversity and equality by investing in its people, DEI&O and development programs, and policies that ensure hiring and promotions based on merit.”

Identifying the companies who make the list involves a two-step process. First, nominations are received and reviewed to ensure they meet a minimum threshold of qualifications. Then the final ballot of companies is voted on by individuals in the industry. Additionally, each year WIT acknowledges the top 30 companies that generated the highest number of industry-wide votes as “The Elite 30” of the program – with FedEx making the list.

There are a number of characteristics that distinguish companies recognized on this list, according to Brian Everett, group publisher and editorial director of Redefining the Road magazine. These characteristics include corporate cultures that foster gender diversity; competitive compensation and benefits; flexible hours and work requirements; professional development opportunities; and career advancement opportunities.

TEMPE, Ariz., November 25, 2024 /3BL/ — Maintaining an online presence is important to small businesses, but is it necessary? According to new data from GoDaddy (NYSE:GDDY), if a business’s target audience is Gen Z or Millennials, not having one could seriously impact their bottom line.

A majority (80%) of 1,000 Gen Z and Millennial U.S. consumers surveyed in September shared they research small businesses online before shopping with them for the first time. They are taking extra steps to verify the credibility of a business by checking their reviews, website and social media accounts.

This new cohort of younger consumers largely aligns on the reasons they would notpurchase from a business’s online store. For example:

More than half (56%) said a lack of reviews would make them not shop with a new small businessNearly 4 in 10 (36.5%) stated a business not accepting their preferred method of payment would deter them from shopping at a new small business3 in 10 (32.5%) indicated not including contact information on a website discourages them from purchasing from a new small businessAround 1 in 3 (31.5%) said having an incomplete or under construction website dissuades them from buying from a new small businessOver a quarter (26%) shared not having an “About Us” page on a website would hinder them from shopping at a new small businessAlmost 1 in 4 (23.5%) noted uncertainties around if their credit card information is safe would stop them from purchasing at a new small business

Gen Z and Millennial shoppers also strongly agree on some effective ways a business owner could improve their brand’s online reputation for new customers. For example:

For 3 out of 4 Gen Z and Millennial consumers combined (74%), a lack of recent updates (within the last 30 days) on a business’s social media or blog impacts their integrityNearly 4 in 5 Gen Z (73%) and Millennial (80%) shoppers feel a dedicated website and online store make a small business more credible

“Knowing what shoppers are specifically researching online when considering purchasing from a new business should have entrepreneurs paying close attention to how their brand is showing up,” said GoDaddy Senior Director of Marketing Amy Jennette. “Small business owners should make every effort to put their best foot forward and attract customers with the right digital tools.”

When it comes to shopping online, GoDaddy’s survey results show Gen Z and Millennial customers have a lot in common. However, regarding social media preferences, there is a clear generational divide between which platforms Gen Z and Millennials prefer to see small businesses using.

Below is a table showing the percentage of respondents in each age group stating where they expect a business to be present. (For example, 61% of Gen Z consumers expect businesses to be on Instagram.)

Social Media Platform Millennials Gen Z Facebook67 %49 %Instagram49 %61 %Snapchat14 %24 %Threads7 %7 %TikTok30 %48 %X19 %22 %Other1 %0 %Do not expect a small business to have an
online presence6 %5 %

While younger consumers may not agree which social platforms a small business should have, the data does reveal another commonality. The vast majority of Gen Z (95%) and Millennial (94%) shoppers expect businesses to be on someform of social media platform.

What the survey findings suggest is that entrepreneurs today should prioritize reviews, update their business website, and frequently publish content that is on-brand across social media.

By leaning into these new insights on Gen Z and Millennial consumer preferences, entrepreneurs can better target their audience, increase the probability that their business will come across as professional and credible, and ultimately increase sales.
