Hayley, a Regions associate, is excited. She’s finishing up painting her new home — her first— and almost ready to move in. The Relationship Banker from Meridian, Mississippi, has just become a homeowner, thanks to a little help from Regions. Mortgage benefits are just some of the many benefits Regions associates can enjoy when they join Team Green.

“Working for Regions has given me so many perks, including the Regions Mortgage 5 for 5 Loan program,” Hayley says.

The Region 5 for 5 Loan is a $5,000 interest-free mortgage loan for Regions associates. What makes the 5 for 5 Loan special is that it is forgivable. When associates stay at Regions for five years after taking the loan, they do not need to repay it. And better still, Regions recently enhanced the program, adjusting the financial requirements to make the program available to even more associates.

Working for Regions has given me so many perks, including the Regions Mortgage 5 for 5 Loan program.

“A key priority in Regions’ Strategic Plan is to invest in the wellbeing of our associates,” says Dave Keenan, Chief Administrative and Human Resources Officer for Regions. “This includes helping make homeownership possible for more employees.”

Regions believes that homeownership is important. It not only builds value and security for the homeowners, but it also strengthens communities — making life better for everyone in the communities we serve.

Hayley is just starting out in her career and has been at Regions for a little over a year. She sees a long future for herself here.

“I am so happy to work here, and having this associate homeownership benefit was a great benefit,” Hayley says. “It reminds me that I work for a company that appreciates my loyalty and commitment.”

A key priority in Regions’ Strategic Plan is to invest in the wellbeing of our associates. This includes helping make homeownership possible for more employees.

What was your favorite part of your GoDaddy internship?

I loved the interactive Zoom events that were regularly organized, which helped us bond with other interns — especially considering my internship was fully remote (also not forgetting the cool swag that we kept receiving)! My ultimate favorite part of the internship was the GoDaddy Hackathon — I had the opportunity to learn and build an interesting Slack Bot that aimed at the developer community to prompt relevant answer threads available, for the questions asked. Our efforts led us to win the ‘Tool Innovation’ Award. It was an absolute pleasure working with my Hackathon team and building meaningful friendships! The diverse activities, like the fire-side chat and Q&A with the CEO, were a great chance to gain valuable insights from others. My team was an amazing source of inspiration in my learning journey as well. Weekly meetings with my intern buddy grew into lovely chats and virtual tours of the office space!

Did you learn anything in your internship that has helped you in your final semesters in college?

There were a lot of learnings that I took back with me post-internship. The valuable guidance I received on approaching tasks effectively, was something I was able to pragmatically apply during my final semester at the university. I’m extremely thankful to each member of my team, as they warmly welcomed me and gave me time to grow and understand the services we worked on, using effective strategies. Throughout my internship, I acquired some great team-building skills. The exposure of implementing and handling real-time REST APIs was really immersive and exciting. Prior to this, it was only limited to small-scale projects in my coursework. The tasks I worked on also gave me a chance to get my hands on the .NET technology. The GoDaddy values such as ‘Work Courageously’, ‘Live Passionately’ and ‘Join Forces,’ were definitely impactful in nurturing a better and productive mindset for myself.

What were you most excited for, about starting full-time for GoDaddy?

I was most excited to join my team again and work on the technologies that helped me grow as an intern. And of course, finally visiting the office in-person and meeting them! The opportunity to be working with the extremely talented workforce around me was a great one indeed. Every day, I did learn something new, be it during pair-programming, team meetings, or knowledge-sharing sessions.

What advice would you share with future interns?

My advice would be: believe in yourself. As cliché as it may sound, it gives you a great head start in your internship journey, especially during the times when you feel you lack a required skill for a said task. The lessons you will pick up on the way along with your team’s support will be worthwhile. The people at GoDaddy are wonderfully helpful, so do not hesitate to ask for help when you feel you’re stuck at a task for a long time. From the time of onboarding us to bidding us farewell, the GoDaddy team ensures we feel a great sense of ease and belonging.

As we approach World Youth Skills Day 2023 on July 15, the strategic importance of equipping young people with the skills they need for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship is crucial. This year’s theme, “Skilling Teachers, Trainers, and Youth for a Transformative Future,” underscores the vital role played by educators in providing young people with the necessary skills to enter the labor market and actively engage in their communities.

Reflecting the hurdles that youth and businesses are grappling with, recent statistics from the International Labour Organization reveal concerning figures. For example, a quarter of the global youth population is not in education, employment, or training, and a staggering 935 million workers worldwide have jobs that do not match their educational level. Furthermore, employers are struggling to find workers with the necessary skill set for the job.

World Youth Skills Day serves as a reminder of the current challenges faced by youth globally and shines a spotlight on actionable steps to create better livelihoods and improve skills alignment for employers. As technological advancements and shifting market dynamics demand agile and adaptable skill sets, it is imperative to empower young people to navigate these changes effectively.

To add another layer, it is vital to highlight that corporations, businesses, and non-profit organizations also have a crucial role in building future skills and creating employment opportunities.

In recognizing this, SAP has partnered with UNICEF to support Generation Unlimited (GenU) on two initiatives. The first is the GenU signature program, Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA), which aims to reach more than 500,000 young people with opportunities for foundational and digital skills.

The second initiative is the pilot of the SAP Educate to Employ program, which will enable more than 100 young people with the essential skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values required to drive employment, innovation, and entrepreneurship — helping to ensure equal opportunities for all.

Already initiated in the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, SAP Educate to Employ is built on the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Learning Framework 2030, which enables young people to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demands of the present and future workforce.

Micro-credential programs form a vital component of the initiative, focusing on socio-emotional skills like emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and critical thinking. These programs are accessible to young individuals with a high school education, vocational training, or a university degree. The curriculum also encompasses employability skills, technology in the workplace, business foundation knowledge, SAP foundational knowledge, and SAP skills certification.

Upon achieving their SAP certification, participants will have opportunities to secure various IT internship roles in departments such as consulting, development, analysis, and support within the SAP ecosystem. Recognizing that some information and communications technology (ICT) roles may face displacement in the next three to five years, the program emphasizes continuous learning and growth to support sustainable employment.

Through SAP Educate to Employ, SAP is committed to providing equitable education and job opportunities for underrepresented individuals, including minorities from diverse ethnic backgrounds, women, differently abled individuals, the underprivileged, and the disadvantaged.

By participating in programs like SAP Educate to Employ, businesses gain access to certified and diversified talent while uplifting their livelihoods. Additionally, they can help bridge the demand and supply gap for SAP skills and accelerate digital transformation within their respective countries through a digitally skilled workforce.

On World Youth Skills Day 2023, it is crucial to acknowledge the immense potential of young people as catalysts for positive change. By making a firm commitment to equipping them with the essential skills, values, knowledge, and attitudes, we can work together to shape a brighter future, leaving no young person behind. After all, skills and education can help society overcome any difficult situation.

NBK has made great strides in its ESG efforts, reflecting the Group’s promise to create and deliver shared value to all our stakeholders. The Group transformed its ESG Strategy with the purpose of balancing the dynamics of maintaining and building the trust of all of its stakeholders. Our ESG strategy evolved from a six-pillar approach to four interrelated pillars designed to reinforce our position as a trusted leader in the emerging business environments of the future. On behalf of the Board of Directors, and at this turning point in NBK’s journey as a responsible bank, I am proud to present to you our recent achievements and developments in ESG.”

Our 2022 Sustainability Report is organized based on the four pillars of NBK’s evolved ESG Strategy Framework. At KeyBank our mission is to empower our clients, communities and employees to thrive. That means we’re regularly supporting local organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of their neighbors. In the Greater Pittsburgh area, Key is proud to support Neighborhood Allies.

Neighborhood Allies works to engage Pittsburgh area residents and organizations with innovative tools that expand opportunity for transformative community change. Aligned with Key’s values, they believe in eliminating barriers to financial success.

This year KeyBank has directly assisted Neighborhood Allies during three on-site events with opening 50 bank accounts for young adults within in the Allegheny County Children, Youth, & Family services. Those opening certified Bank On accounts are 18-22 years old that have been in CYF placements, currently involved in the homeless system in Allegheny County or are a parent with an open case with CYF in Allegheny County. Eligible young adults may also receive $4,000 cash assistance and can double the cash assistance if they are eligible for and complete the Opportunity Passport program – a series of financial education classes.

Key’s support of Neighborhood Allies dates back to 2021, when the KeyBank Foundation invested $400,000 into the organization. The grant dollars were used to implement partnerships with Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh to bring financial counseling to emergency rental assistance recipients, create investment clubs for Black women, offer credit building products, expand youth banking initiatives, connect entrepreneurs of color with financial counseling to build personal credit and savings and to make equity a priority.

“We have learned that it’s not enough to provide financial information; those who have traditionally been excluded from the financial mainstream need access to practical and trustworthy financial tools and resources,” said Sarah Dieleman Perry, Director of Economic Opportunity at Neighborhood Allies. “With funding from partners like KeyBank, we’re able to bring supports that allow more people to experience success.”

“KeyBank is thrilled about the continued collaborative efforts with Neighborhood Allies,” said Carla Frost, KeyBank’s Western Pennsylvania Corporate Responsibility Officer. “Helping to put our young neighbors on a path to financial success is not only uplifting – it’s humbling. We look forward to additional opportunities where we can support Neighborhood Allies and our Greater Pittsburgh neighbors.”

TCS partnered with St. Andrews School in Honolulu, Hawaii, to bring Go Innovate Together (goIT), TCS’ signature digital innovation and career readiness program, to 4th and 6th grade students this spring. It’s the first school in Hawaii to embrace the goIT program and a prime example of how computer science programs are increasing their appeal with girls.

The school kicked off its first goIT program in February and, over three months, about 30 students — more than 75% of them girls — worked their way through the goIT Artificial Intelligence curriculum. The experience gave them hands-on experience with machine learning and classification modeling, helping them employ creativity and problem-solving skills to create concepts for tech-for-good solutions to problems in their community.

The experience is notable because goIT, which works hard to engage girls and others who are underrepresented in computer science careers, typically records involvement of just more than 50 percent girls.

“This program was especially exciting and rewarding for goIT,” said Leah Operana, North America goIT Program Lead, “First, it engaged so many girls, all eager and excited to learn about AI and design thinking and, second, because it brought goIT to Hawaii for the first time ever. We look forward to continuing our partnership with St. Andrew’s Schools and to expanding goIT’s impact across the state.”

Inspiring girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers is a priority for TCS. According to the United States Census Bureau, women make up just 27% of the STEM workforce. Increased diversity and representation in tech jobs will inspire future generations and lead to better outcomes for all of us.

At the St. Andrew’s program culmination event, students presented their digital innovation concepts as pitches to a panel of volunteer judges comprised of industry experts from TCS and a celebrity judge, Hawaii Representative Scott K. Saiki of House District 25.

When the showcase concluded, the program’s lead facilitator, educator Peng Ratchaworapong, shared his thoughts on the experience.

The learning materials, swag, and the time that TCS volunteers put in were so valuable,” he said. “What TCS did with this program made a big impact on these young minds and I believe the goIT experience is what every classroom should be like all of the time. I enjoyed every minute of it and just want to say a big ‘mahalo’ for your support.”

Ironically, it wasn’t Ratchaworapong’s first experience running a life-changing program sponsored by TCS. Last year, he completed the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon as a member of Team TCS Teachers, an initiative that provides a select group of teachers from across the U.S. and Canada free entry into a top marathon.

Growing up, Soojin Lee lived in four different countries and has always been drawn to diversity, trying new things, and connecting dots. She was attracted to Bloomberg for those very reasons and has made a career out of connecting people to solve complex problems.

From Sales to Financial Solutions to her latest chapter in Core Product, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), Soojin dedicates her time trying to “democratize ESG,” making it transparent and easily accessible for our customers. Read more to find out about Soojin’s 17-year career journey, the top priorities of the Sustainable Finance Solutions group, and what she wishes everyone knew about ESG.

Q: Can you tell us about your background and your career journey?

A: I am from South Korea, but I grew up in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and the US. I moved around frequently when I was younger, so I’ve been drawn and exposed to change, diversity, and trying new things. I believe that was one of the things that attracted me to Bloomberg.

I joined Bloomberg in Hong Kong in 2006 after I graduated from university in Korea. I was wowed by the view from the Hong Kong office, but more impressed by the intelligence, motivation and collegiality demonstrated by everyone I met regardless of rank or role within the firm. The culture also stood out to me. I immediately knew I wanted to work for the company, and now it’s been 17 years!

I spent the first nine years of my career in Sales and Specialist roles in Hong Kong. I was passionate about emerging markets as well as managing APAC-wide accounts and influencing product development for the region. Then in 2016, I moved to London for three years and had an amazing role in the Financial Products Knowledge Group (now known as Financial Solutions Knowledge Group).

After three years in that group I moved to New York in 2018 and after spending time back in Sales with a broader remit as Sales Manager and COO, I joined the newly formed ESG Product team (the Sustainable Finance Solutions group) when Bloomberg was beginning to make big investments in this area. I still work on this growing team, but have since moved back to London. I feel very fortunate because the role requires me to collaborate with so many groups across Engineering, Data, UX, News & Research, Sales, Analytics, Marketing, Communications and also with many other Product teams.

Q: What are some of your top priorities?

A: In recent years, we’ve invested significantly in our Sustainable Finance Solutions, notably to expand the ESG content we provide to our customers, and lay the foundational infrastructure for ESG solutions.

This year, we will expand on our differentiated content and focus on delivering seamless workflows that empower customers to make thoughtful investment decisions with ease, through quality analytics and integration.

Q: Can you speak to some of the trends that are shaping the momentum around sustainable finance and ESG?

A: In the past, ESG was seen as something niche. What’s changed is that the majority of our customers now integrate ESG factors into their investment process. That’s been the biggest shift from five years ago. We’ve also recently seen an increasing demand for thematic and impact investing, from concerns for climate change and biodiversity loss among others.

Q: How is ESG data beneficial for our clients?

A: The struggle our customers have with data is lack of disclosure and lack of standardization. There is also the fact that there isn’t one data provider that meets all the needs of our customers for ESG assessment. On average, customers take in data from more than six providers, so managing all of that data is another struggle.

How do we help solve that? Bloomberg is the best in the industry  for transparency and robustness, and has a seamless ability to integrate. The investments that we’re making in our infrastructure are  to guarantee quality and provide transparency. We are continuing to expand our content offering every year, and when it comes to problems like lack of disclosure, we have models to help fill in the gaps, where we can estimate on a very large scale.

There are many reports that show ESG will only increase in significance. We’re not the first and only in the industry, but Bloomberg has the ability to integrate ESG content into existing workflows in a seamless manner on the Terminal so that customers don’t have to work with fragmented tools.

Q: What do you wish more people knew about the work you do?

A: Our customers are struggling and looking for simplicity and clear answers. ESG is not standardized, it’s highly scrutinized, it is also constantly changing and has fragmented regulatory requirements. In that kind of dynamic environment, whether you’re a new player just starting to look at ESG or you’re more advanced, Bloomberg can help!

Q: What inspires you about the work that you do?

A: I like to connect people to solve customer problems, build consensus and reach a common goal. I’m in this role because I love bringing different stakeholders together and tackling issues for our customers. Each person in our group brings unique skill sets and when there’s a problem, we rely on one another and work together to find solutions. I also love it when a large group of people all agree that there is a pressing customer need or opportunity, and we align on a plan – refine, work out the dependencies to deliver and accomplish a goal, and our customers validate our work with adoption and feedback.

Q: What’s some of the best career advice you received? And some that you would pass on to someone entering the firm?

A: The impact you leave on others is important. When people think about working with you, they will remember how you made them feel — how you appreciated their work and invested time for them to succeed. People at Bloomberg have been my greatest assets.

The other piece of great career advice I received is to never stop learning in every role. There is always an opportunity to make connections and take the things that you learn from each role to help you grow into the next, potentially bigger role.

The driving force behind climate change is the energy transition, and T-Mobile operates with 100% renewably purchased electricity to deliver connectivity

COP27 last year was as crucial as any of the climate conferences we’ve seen over the past few years. Leaders come face-to-face with the realities of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and formulate plans for steady progress towards a number of goals.

The primary actions are usually in aid of the climate, there are further areas to be considered, such as the social impacts of drought and flooding—a result of current climate change rates—and the finance plans to implement projects that will reduce our impacts on the planet.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) initiative allows businesses to come forward with their plans to mitigate their climate impacts and formulate programmes and partnerships that align with global targets. One of the early movers in this is T-Mobile, which developed a strategy as early as 2018; formalised ambitious plans to source 100% renewable electricity in 2021.
