A $300,000 investment from the KeyBank Foundation will help Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity expand its Habitat Homebuyer Program. This grant announcement was made at an event where KeyBank teammates helped build a new Habitat for Humanity home located at 560 Garson Avenue.

“Homeownership helps families build wealth, strengthens communities and helps neighborhoods grow and thrive block by block here in Rochester and across Western New York,” said Vince Lecce, KeyBank Rochester Market President. “We are excited to invest in and partner with Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity as they find transformative and innovative ways to make our community stronger by making homeownership more accessible and sustainable for all.”

“Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to accept this generous investment and partnership with KeyBank,” noted GRHFH CEO Matthew J. Flanigan. “It’s thanks to our generous sponsors and partners like these that we can take exciting steps forward to continue our neighborhood revitalization efforts and create more opportunities for families to achieve homeownership.”

This investment will help Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) double its impact in the communities it serves and expand financial literacy training/counseling services. Acting as primary developer, GRHFH has begun partnering with for-profit builders, designers, architects, and workforce development organizations to develop single-family homes for this program at scale alongside its current volunteer-based projects. GRHFH is also pursuing projects that would allow for higher density housing development on multi-acre parcels in Ontario and Wayne counties.

Funds from KeyBank will help GRHFH serve an additional 50 families over the next two calendar years, or a total of approximately 150 individuals. For GRHFH, a family successfully served is one that was able to either obtain affordable housing as defined by HUD or can demonstrate the ability to qualify for an affordable housing solution through a financial review.

Since 2017, KeyBank has made more than $727 million in investments in the Rochester market, supporting affordable housing and community development projects; small business and home lending to low-to-moderate income individuals and communities, and transformative philanthropy.

LAGOS, Nigeria, May 21, 2024 – Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, today announced the launch of its microgrid solution Villaya Flex at the Alliance for Rural Electrification Energy Access Investment Forum 2024. The forum, taking place in Lagos, Nigeria on May 21-23, brings together private and public sector actors to expand access to energy, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa.

The International Energy Agency estimates that 756 million people globally live without electricity, hindering economic and human development. Ensuring access to clean and affordable energy is one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and particularly relevant to sub-Saharan Africa, where an estimated 80% of people without access to electricity live.

Villaya Flex is a packaged microgrid solution that maximizes clean energy while reducing pollution from genset usage. It was specially designed for communities, facilitating the journey toward decarbonized, independent electricity while meeting today’s energy challenges. The solution can be sized, ordered, commissioned, operated, and maintained easily with high levels of battery storage scalability. It includes the following components:

All-in-one hybrid power conversion Unit. 50/100 kVA bidirectional hybrid power conversion unit.Battery storage. Capture and store onsite generation to drive resilience, sustainability, and efficiency.Energy control center. A centralized panel to manage multiple energy sources into an intelligent power management system.Advanced and cyber secure easy-to-use digital monitoring platform:EcoStruxure™ Microgrid Advisor (energy production management)EcoStruxure™ Energy Access Expert (demand-side management)EcoStruxure™ Microgrid Build (system design simplification)

“Villaya Flex is a renewable energy solution that provides energy access as a more sustainable and affordable option for off-grid communities “, said Bala Vinayagam, SVP Microgrid Line of Business, Schneider Electric. “This solution is designed for off-grid communities and remote villages facing energy shortages, limited access to electricity, and high fuel costs.”

With it, Schneider expands its portfolio of products and solutions that aim to help reach the UN’s 2030 target of universal access to energy.

“At this event, Schneider Electric is here to engage in advancing investments for renewable electrification, sustainable electricity access, climate action, and addressing energy skills challenges,” said Albert Fuchet, Global VP of Access to Energy, Schneider Electric. “Additionally, through the event, the company aims to explore opportunities to collaborate with both the private and public sectors to drive a sustainable and inclusive energy transition, unlocking sustainable access to the future for all.”

At the event, Schneider Electric will also showcase a range of innovative solutions to expand energy access. Its experts will speak on key topics such as catalyzing investments for renewable electrification, decentralizing the renewable energy sector, and accelerating the clean energy transition across sub-Saharan Africa.

As an Impact company, Schneider Electric is committed to bridging progress and sustainability for all. Through its Access to Energy program, established in 2009, Schneider Electric aims to connect 50 million people globally to clean and reliable energy by 2025.

Regency Centers has joined forces with the University of Southern California to establish an Employee Empowerment Fund. The fund is an annual donation that provides an opportunity for at least one local Regency employee to attend the USC Ross Program in Real Estate.

The Ross Program in Real Estate is a certificate course established in 1993 to enable members of underrepresented groups and those who invest resources in emerging communities to build a foundation toward leadership in real estate finance and development. The program is offered under the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate.

Throughout the intensive, four-week program, students come together to gain industry knowledge and solve complex real estate challenges. Graduates go on to play roles in numerous commercial, retail, residential, and mixed-use developments throughout Southern California and across the nation.

“I’ve had people tell me the course has changed their lives,” said Mary Peralta, Program Manager, USC Ross Program. “The development sector is one of the biggest money-making sectors when it comes to land use, and it’s been largely closed off to women and people of color. Alongside organizations like Regency Centers, we’re trying to change that by providing more knowledge, understanding, skills, connections, and access.”

The culmination of the course is a real estate development project, where teams of students are taken to a real piece of property in Los Angeles and tasked with coming up with the highest and best use of the land. Teams then present their pitches to investors, community members, and stakeholders — as they would in the “real world.”

Erika Omana, Senior Property Manager, was the inaugural recipient of the Employee Empowerment Fund. She and her colleagues beat out four other teams to earn “Best Development Proposal” for the winter 2024 session of the USC Ross Program in Real Estate.

“Overall, I 10/10 recommend the program,” said Erika Omana, Senior Property Manager. “I gained an incredible amount of knowledge and now understand the business from a completely different perspective. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to take their real estate career to the next level. I hope to use my education to help create a better world for those around me, especially underrepresented Latinas in the real estate industry.”

Entergy’s performance report integrates a comprehensive overview of our 2023 achievements, including financial results with economic, environmental, governance, and social performance and impacts. Learn how we power life for all our stakeholders at performancereport.entergy.com.

Pro bono program
Entergy’s pro bono legal program helps community members through a variety of free legal services. In 2018, we were the first U.S. company to create a full-time role for pro bono counsel.

Over the past decade, legal department employees have performed nearly 21,000 hours of pro bono services. That’s a $5.6 million in-kind donation to the community. In 2023, legal professionals donated more than 1,600 hours of pro bono time.

Our attorneys partner with legal aid nonprofits to offer free legal advice and representation on matters ranging from life-planning documents for first responders, FEMA claims after natural disasters, veterans’ benefits access, family law, post- conviction relief for incarcerated survivors of domestic violence, and assistance for nonprofits and minority and women-owned small businesses.

Pro bono legal team helps refugee family
In 2023, the Entergy team helped an Afghan refugee family attain U.S. immigration asylum. The parents and their young child fled their homeland in 2021 as U.S. military forces withdrew from Afghanistan and the Taliban retook control.

At any time during the two years working through the U.S. immigration asylum process, the family could have been ordered to return to Afghanistan and had their lives endangered.

Working with Home is Here, an immigration-focused nonprofit, and Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, Entergy’s legal professionals spent more than 250 hours helping the family navigate the immigration process, including representing them during eight-hour asylum interviews – all free of charge.

The family learned in July 2023 that their asylum requests were officially approved. They can now safely rebuild their lives while working toward U.S. citizenship, learn more here.
