June 27, 2024 /3BL/ – Members of the media are invited to hear from leaders of Nevada’s public and private sectors on Tuesday, July 9, at 2:00 pm PT as they discuss their efforts to address sustainability challenges and grow the state economy by building clean technology. The event will take place at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson as part of the Nevada Sustainability Summit: Upping the Game.

Nevada stands at the epicenter of global sustainability solutions, balancing its rich natural resources with formidable challenges in climate, water, energy, and air pollution. This unique position — as well as several major private-sector investments in the state to build clean technology — makes Nevada a crucial player in tackling the planet’s most urgent sustainability challenges.

Media are invited to join the Summit’s closing session, an armchair discussion featuring Director Dwayne McClinton of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy and Caleb Cage, executive director of the Nevada Battery Coalition, on opportunities to leverage these historic sustainability investments to bring more prosperity to Nevada. There will also be a tour of sustainability highlights at Lee’s Family Forum and a reception to end the day.

Hosted by Ceres, Lee’s Family Forum, the Vegas Golden Knights, and the Knight SHIELD Project, the Nevada Sustainability Summit comes amid a national surge in clean energy investment that has greatly benefited the state. Since the summer of 2022, when the nation’s largest-ever clean energy legislation passed into law, Nevada has secured more than $14.5 billion in new clean energy investments, which are projected to create more than 20,000 new jobs. The Nevada Sustainability Summit will celebrate this success while exploring further opportunities to grow the state’s sustainable economy.

Building for a stronger tomorrow in the hospitality industry includes having talent with the skills to serve up great cocktails with confidence and a smile. That’s part of the ambition for the Bacardi Shake Your Future program, a global initiative that provides free, professional training to young adults looking to launch a career in mixology. This month, the second cohort of Shake Your Future in Bermuda – home of the Bacardi global headquarters – celebrated their graduation and their start of a future in the industry.

Shake Your Future was originally created in 2018 and has since expanded to Italy, France, Germany, Spain, India, South Africa and other markets. In Bermuda, the program launched in February 2023 in partnership with the Bermuda Government’s Department of Workforce Development in response to the growing demand for trained bartenders and hospitality professionals on the island. The comprehensive Bermuda program includes four intensive weeks of training at the European Bartending School in London, offering students a chance to obtain international bartender certification. Upon their return to Bermuda, participants continue honing their skills, concentrating on personal branding, marketing, and taking on work placement in some of Bermuda’s premier bars and restaurants.

“We are immensely proud to celebrate the achievements of the second cohort of the Bacardi Shake Your Future program,” says Douglas Mellos, Managing Director of Bacardi Limited. “These outstanding graduates have shown exceptional dedication and skill, mastering complex aspects of bartending and hospitality. This program not only opens professional doors for them but also enriches Bermuda’s hospitality sector. We look forward to their continued success and innovation as they bring their new skills to the forefront of the industry.”

Shake Your Future is running in select cities across the globe with an ever-growing number of bar and restaurant partners pledging their support and giving the trainees the all-important experience they need to change their lives. Learn more: https://www.bacardilimited.com/esg/shakeyourfuture/

SALEM, Mass. June 27, 2024 /3BL/ – The historic Bakers Island Light Station at the entrance of Salem Sound currently runs on 100 percent renewable energy, thanks to a $45,000 sustainability grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club. The grant, which was provided to Essex Heritage in 2020, funded the installation of an off-grid 1.83-kilowatt solar array and battery storage system on the island to generate and store electricity for the lighthouse and two 19th-century keepers’ houses.

Sun Club® and Essex Heritage virtually celebrated the project completion in August 2020, and the impact since has been impressive. The Light Station, located several miles offshore, previously operated completely off the grid with reliance on gas-powered generators. The new solar and battery system provides enough renewable energy for 110-volt lights, electric appliances, and power tools to keep the lighthouse and two houses powered year-round.

The Bakers Island project is one of the 165 projects to receive a sustainability grant from Sun Club®. This Green Mountain Energy charitable program collaborates with nonprofit organizations on projects that focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental stewardship. Since its founding in 2002, Sun Club® has donated more than $14 million to projects that have helped nonprofits avoid 8,500 gallons of fuel, capture 20 million gallons of rainwater, grow 369,000 pounds of produce, and generate 25 million kWh of solar electricity in communities across the nation.

“We were honored to collaborate with Essex Heritage and fund the installation of their solar panel system and battery storage for Bakers Island Light Station,” said Johnny Richardson, program manager for Green Mountain Energy Sun Club®. “Our grants are made possible thanks to a one-of-a-kind model that links communities and Green Mountain Energy together to support sustainability solutions with renewable energy at the heart of the program.”

Essex Heritage became involved in the Bakers Island Light Station more than 15 years ago and took over stewardship of the station in 2014 when the deed was transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to Essex Heritage. Since then, the lighthouse has been restored, the property is maintained, and the public has access to visit the light station.

“The $45,000 Sun Club grant we received has made an incredible difference in our ability to repair and maintain this historic light station with clean solar power energy,” said Annie C. Harris, chief executive officer for Essex Heritage. “It has not only enabled us to make the property much more comfortable for our visitors, but our volunteer keepers, who live at the lighthouse all summer, can make run power tools and read by lamp light at night. Best of all they have refrigeration and a washing machine, so they don’t need to return to the mainland every few days for food and laundry.”

At Tapestry we believe that difference sparks brilliance. Equity, inclusion and diversity pave the way for unlocking the potential of our people, our business and our communities. Our employee business resource groups (EBRGs) are one of the many ways we spotlight and amplify employee voices within Tapestry and with our stakeholders.

Last week, Tapestry’s Black Alliance EBRG and L’Oreal’s Black @ L’Oréal employee resource group (ERG) teamed up to host Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom at our Hudson Yards HQ.

Employees from both organizations were invited to a panel conversation about Juneteenth, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S., to share personal stories and reflect on themes of community, equity, and justice. Following the discussion, it was time for a block party with live music, dancing, food, games, and great company.

Thank you to the 200+ attendees who joined us both in-person and virtually for an inspiring afternoon, and to Black Alliance and Black @ L’Oréal for the opportunity to come together and connect. We’re grateful to have teams and local partners who actively embrace and cultivate equity, inclusion and diversity every day.

In this episode of ESG Trendsetters, Randall Hopkins, Global Head of ESG Solutions at Nasdaq, sits down with Craig Hurlbert, Co-Founder & CEO, and Laura Hann, Director of Sustainability, at Local Bounti. An indoor agriculture operation with multiple facilities across the United States, Local Bounti’s sustainable growing methods are designed to be better for the planet. With a mission to “bring our farm to your kitchen in the fewest food miles possible,” Local Bounti aims to make its food fresher, more nutritious, and longer lasting than food grown through traditional agriculture.

With sustainability at the forefront, Local Bounti prides itself on using less water, pesticides, and herbicides and growing products close to their consumers. Hann, who joined the company shortly after it was founded, says the organization incorporates sustainability into every aspect of the business. From employees to customers, stakeholders have made it known that sustainability is important to them. “ESG is doing great things for the planet, but it’s also doing good things for the communities where we are located. Resource efficiency helps to drive down operational costs all while adding value to the people that are purchasing our products,” shares Hann.

Local Bounti is moving fast in the ESG space, making tremendous strides towards its goal of producing a rare feat: a carbon-free product. With the help of its patented stack and flow technology, the organization has had success optimizing the elements needed in an indoor growing environment and is moving ambitiously to achieve its other sustainability goals. For example, Local Bounti set an aggressive 50% landfill diversion target to meet within two years and has already surpassed that target, currently at 75% diversion.

With ESG being a core element to long-term success, Local Bounti is motivated to continue beating their targets and pushing the needle in the sustainability space. “There is a genuine desire here to get it right. What we’ve decided to do at Local Bounti is go all in and really lead the controlled environment agriculture space around data and data collection,” reflects Hurlbert. “I think over time, organizations will be more commonly and easily differentiated and compared to the ones that built their organizations around ESG, to those that didn’t.”

In terms of KPIs and metrics, Local Bounti relies on quality intel directly from its customers. As ESG conversations evolve, Local Bounti understands that consumers value sustainability and want to see these targets fulfilled. In addition to that baseline, the organization collects data and produces a comprehensive sustainability report using end-to-end sustainability reporting and data management platform, Nasdaq Metrio™. “We can track our ESG metrics so much more efficiently and better understand where we are headed within that ESG space,” says Hann. She shares that the platform has really changed the way her team manages Local Bounti’s ESG data.

Beyond software utilization, for sustainability issuers looking to tell their best ESG story, Hurlbert shares simple advice, explaining that “Your business needs to make economic sense. If it doesn’t, you need to rethink your business.” Moreover, both Hurlbert and Hann emphasize the value in prioritizing ESG early on, hiring the right talent, and weaving it into the fabric of the organization. Dedicating time and resources for data collection and strategy development supports incremental progress and successful ESG practices.

Hann also emphasizes the importance of adopting the “gold standard” in sustainability disclosure to effectively guide future ESG actions. Local Bounti reported to respected international disclosure frameworks in its first year of commercial production, setting a benchmark for better transparency and accountability in the future. This decision reflects the organization’s commitment to operating with integrity and highlights dedication to making informed choices regarding its ESG initiatives. By aligning with these frameworks, Local Bounti demonstrates a proactive approach to pave the way for continuous improvement and establish a solid foundation for sustainable business practices.

Local Bounti continues to thrive and expand its presence in the controlled environment agriculture sector, embodying a steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and well-being through high-quality, locally grown produce to enrich the lives of people within its communities.
