We know that losing power — especially during high heat — is difficult for customers and their families. Following a week of extreme weather that included a multi-day heat dome and winds in excess of 70 mph, we are grateful and thank customers for the patience they showed throughout one of the most devastating and extended storm events in our history.

For 250 years, Independence Day has been a time to recognize those who serve something larger than themselves. And when our customers need us, holidays don’t change our commitment to serving our communities. For some, the holiday meant barbecues and fireworks. For others, it meant storm damage and power outages. Our crews, mutual aid crews, customer service representatives, dispatchers, system operators and countless others worked together throughout the holiday to restore power, repair or replace air conditioners and respond to customers. Their focus was simple: helping customers stay safe, stay cool and stay connected during and after extreme weather conditions.

We are grateful for our customers and their patience and understanding in these difficult conditions of extended outages. We know that being without power for any length of time is difficult and safely restoring your power as soon as possible was at the heart of all our efforts this past week.”

–Kim Hanemann, President and Chief Operating Officer of PSE&G.

That’s what public service looks like. Showing up safely. Caring for our customers. Strengthening our communities. Every day of the year.

Holiday response by the numbers

The weekend’s back-to-back storms rank in our top ten most impactful storms in company history, with:

  • More than 380,000 customer outages restored.
  • 165 utility crews including PSE&G, contractors and mutual aid partners responding to support restoration efforts.
  • More than 1,500 trees cleared by 170 tree crews so our electric crews could safely access damaged equipment and restore service.
  • 7,000 air conditioning repairs made and 110 A/C replacement service calls completed.
  • More than 10 million text and email messages sent to customers before and during the storm, including targeted messages to customers who were out.
  • Record breaking temperatures and a heat dome across the region, with heat indices reaching up to 115° in some parts of the state.

Why does extreme heat put more pressure on the energy system?

When temperatures rise, so does demand for electricity as homes, businesses and critical facilities work harder to stay cool. This can put a strain on the system as well as equipment in your neighborhood.

We were prepared with fueled up trucks packed with extra supplies and additional crews on hand to support restoration efforts, ready to respond so customers could get back to normal as quickly as possible.

How do today’s projects help deliver tomorrow’s reliability?

Our ability to restore your service safely and as quickly as possible after back-to-back storms didn’t happen overnight.

It began years earlier through ongoing projects that strengthened the electric and gas systems serving New Jersey communities and have helped us remain one of the nation’s most reliable utility companies. Those projects include replacing aging equipment to improve system performance and restore service more efficiently when severe weather hits.

Thank you to the people who show up when it matters most

Most customers will never meet the people who spent their holiday weekend away from their own families.

What they will remember is returning home with family and friends to lights that were back on, a cool house waiting for them and the peace of mind that comes from knowing someone was there and didn’t quit until the job was done.

Those moments don’t happen by chance. They happen because thousands of dedicated employees put service ahead of celebration so customers could get back to normal.

To every member of our workforce, as well as our mutual aid crews who assisted in restoration efforts, thank you.

Their dedication reflects something larger than a day’s work. It reflects the responsibility that comes with serving the communities where we live and work.

We’re grateful to you, our customers, for reporting your outages, following our restoration updates and for the many thoughtful messages of support shared with our teams throughout these last couple of days. Thank you for the trust you place in us to power your lives and communities.

Whether it’s the Fourth of July during the height of a summer heat wave, a winter storm that leaves two feet of snow on the ground or an ordinary Tuesday, our commitment never wavers. We show up when our customers and communities need us most, working safely, responding and continuously strengthening the reliable energy system that powers New Jersey’s homes, businesses and critical services—today and for the future.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your career journey to date.

I’m a wife and mom of three: a 6-year-old daughter, a 4-year-old son, and a 1-year-old daughter who keeps my husband and me on our toes. Before moving to Arizona, I spent most of my life in California. I worked in the hotel industry with roles at several Kimpton Hotels and Hilton properties across administration, sales, and catering. I loved the energy of hotels – the fast pace, the customer-focused environment, and the fact that no two days ever felt the same.

In 2017, my husband received a job offer in Arizona, and we moved thinking we would only stay for a few years. Fast forward to today, and we’re still here with no plans to move back! While looking for a job in Arizona, I joined GoDaddy in Professional Web Services, where I helped small business owners build their websites and online presence. I loved hearing their stories, seeing their passion, and playing a small role in bringing their businesses to life. When a new training position opened in the department, I had the opportunity to support new hires and help them feel confident in their roles as they worked with small business owners.

After two years in training, I moved into Talent Acquisition, where I’ve now been for five years. I get to work with new hires who are excited, energetic, and ready to join our team, and it feels special to help welcome them to GoDaddy. I still remember my own Recruiter and Recruiting Coordinator because they made such a positive impact when I started, and I hope to create that same experience for others. Fun fact: both of them are now my coworkers and still with the company. Shoutout to Vickie and Preston!

Was there a defining moment that made you realize Talent Acquisition was the right space for you?

I’ve had several “yep, this is the right place for me” moments over the years, starting with the interview process. I still remember how each interview made me feel. I met with Aly, Erin, Thea, and Vickie, and each conversation felt warm and genuine. They made me feel comfortable while asking thoughtful questions, and it was clear how much they cared about the work and believed in what they do.

Once I officially joined the department, that feeling only grew. From warm welcome greetings in Slack channels, to being included in my first monthly newsletter, to receiving a personal feature in an all-hands call, everything felt genuine and welcoming. Everyone was kind, thoughtful, and supportive. In every meeting, big or small, you feel a part of the meeting rather than just joining for attendance.

I feel like my voice and opinions matter here, and I love that our team is always looking for ways to improve processes and work more efficiently.

Talent Acquisition truly feels like home.

How do you stay organized and effective during high‑volume hiring?

Writing things down helps me stay organized. I use sticky notes and checklists to prioritize tasks, track what needs to be done, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Crossing items off gives me a sense of progress and momentum. While seeing everything on paper can feel overwhelming at first, it ultimately helps me feel more in control because I can clearly see what needs my attention. It’s like going to the gym: getting to the gym is the hardest part, but once you’re there, you feel better and can get a great workout in.

What has been your most significant learning experience within the past year?

Set realistic expectations. There will never be enough hours in the day to do everything, so I’ve learned to focus on what I can accomplish and give myself practical timeframes to reach my goals. I used to try to take on everything at once, but this past year, going from two kids to three, has helped me prioritize what I “can do” over what I “want to do”. That mindset has helped me plan better, work more efficiently, and pace myself.

Clear communication is just as important. Since people are not mind readers, sharing timelines or giving a heads-up helps set everyone up for success and reduces unnecessary pressure.

If you had to describe GoDaddy’s culture in one word, what would it be and why?

Inclusive. Across three departments and nine years at GoDaddy, I’ve always felt a sense of belonging. In each role, I felt connected to the work, supported by my team, and comfortable being myself. I’ve also had opportunities to embrace change and help influence it. Every person I’ve worked with has brought something valuable to the table and I’ve truly loved the opportunity to collaborate, grow, and learn from everyone.

What’s your motto or personal mantra?

Be intentional. Know what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and what you want to get out of it. Staying focused on your purpose helps you make each action meaningful.

Summer break brings a sense of optimism — warmer weather is here, and the promise of adventure is on the horizon. Whether you’re headed to a far-off destination or a backyard barbecue, it’s important to be prepared. This isn’t about worry; it’s about readiness. The kind that lets you follow the sunshine and stay open to detours — the good kind. Having the right tools on hand can transform the experience from “hope nothing goes wrong” into “I’ve got this no matter what.”

Every journey has a rhythm, and summer break is extra busy

Summer travel often means more traffic, more crowds and the potential for accidental bumps, slips and mishaps. That’s why experts consistently recommend a few simple rituals before heading out, like checking travel advisories and weather alerts near your destination, sharing itineraries with someone at home and becoming familiar with evacuation plans in case of fires or other emergencies.1 These aren’t meant to curb spontaneity but to build confidence, the type that keeps travelers grounded even while chasing adventure.

What travelers pack when they’re thinking ahead

Packing for a summer trip often means debating how many swimsuits is “reasonable,” but seasoned travelers know that a few smart additions can prevent an inconvenient moment from becoming a vacation‑altering incident.

For starters, consider a lightweight first‑aid kit with basics like bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, motion‑sickness tablets and prescription medications. These small tools can help travelers avoid unnecessary medical visits for minor issues during busy vacation months.2

Just as important is having a backup of documents and essential information. Digital copies of passports or IDs, an extra payment method and emergency contact info can save the day if wallets are lost during an excursion.

And of course, sun protection and hydration helpers are key for sunny destinations. Regardless of whether the sun is shining solo in a bright blue sky or it’s hiding behind clouds, it’s important to keep sunscreen, SPF lip balm, reusable water bottles and even basic bug repellent — these can help prevent the discomforts that time outdoors short or lead to unexpected medical costs down the line.3

Thinking outside the … suitcase

Now that your bag is packed, what about your financial preparation? Many families quietly doublecheck their insurance coverage before leaving home, simply to understand how unexpected medical bills would work if someone is sick or injured. It’s a subtle, practical step — one that doesn’t overshadow the excitement of the trip.

“We want to make memories during our vacation time, not create debt,” said Aflac Senior Vice President and chief customer officer, Keith Farley. “But with play often comes some bumps and bruises. Accident insurance is one way many families give themselves a bit of extra peace of mind, not just during summer break, but year-round.”

Ready for the sunshine

In the end, summer break is about quality time and experiences with the people we care about. Travelers can’t prepare for everything, but they can build a foundation that lets them stay present for the moments that matter. With a few thoughtful steps, a smartly packed bag and the kind of quiet planning that supports all the fun, summertime can unfold exactly the way travelers imagine it: bright, refreshing and wonderfully memorable.
