DICK’S Sporting Goods has officially opened applications for the 2026 DICK’S Varsity Team roster! Now in its second year open to the public, the social-first ambassador program is calling on content creators who are passionate about sports and hold influence with their online communities to apply. Selected members will have an opportunity to partner with DICK’S Sporting Goods and other top national brands to create original social content for a wide range of campaigns and digital platforms.

Since opening DICK’S Varsity Team to external applicants in 2025, the program has seen tremendous success, creating over 2,500 pieces of social content, generating 40 million+ impressions, and being featured in over 20 campaigns for both DICK’S and its top brands like adidas, New Balance, On and Hoka. These results have led DICK’S to grow its Varsity Team roster in 2026. Beyond expanding the total number of Varsity Team members, DICK’S is enhancing its year-round programming by giving its creators more chances to connect in person and collaborate on content across a variety of campaigns.

“Today’s creator economy is driven by authenticity, and the DICK’S Varsity Team has quickly become a defining space for athletes and creators to bring their passion for sport to life through real, first-person storytelling,” said Mark Rooks, Vice President of Creative, Sponsorship & Entertainment at DICK’S Sporting Goods. “As one of the leading sports ambassador programs, we’re excited to expand this community and deepen our shared connection to sport.”

Once again, DICK’S will leverage Team Captains to serve as leaders for the 2026 DICK’S Varsity Team, mentoring the incoming class as they embark on their journey. What started as a short-term mentorship in 2025, will grow to a longer-term partnership with four athletes who blend athletic achievement with powerful social influence. This year’s Team Captains welcome back Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall (Olympic and Paralympic Track & Field Athletes) and introduce RobertAnthony Cruz (Savannah Bananas Player and 2025 Varsity Team member) and Emily Harrigan (Former Collegiate Soccer Player and Sports Reporter).

“Social media has given us a chance to pursue our dream; specifically, because of those who have supported our content and careers,” said the Woodhalls. “Without our community, none of this would be possible. When we started, we didn’t have many mentors and no financial support, but we put ourselves out there and figured it out along the way. Luckily, so many believed in us from the beginning. So, when DICK’S Sporting Goods reached out for us to be Team Captains of an amazing program that helps others do the same, we were psyched. DICK’S Varsity Team is all about working with creators, athletes, and coaches—people growing their sport and telling their stories. What a blessing to share our experience and learn from everyone there.”

Selected members of the 2026 DICK’S Varsity Team will receive:

  • A paid contract for creating content and posting to their social media channels
  • An exclusive, all-expense-paid 4-day Orientation experience in Tampa, Florida. This kickoff event is where Varsity Team members meet the DICK’S team, connect with fellow creators, attend training sessions and receive access to industry experts. A recap video from the 2025 DICK’S Varsity Team Orientation can be found HERE
  • Quarterly ‘Trend Boxes’ featuring the latest products from the hottest brands at DICK’S and opportunities for DICK’S gift cards to purchase product for content creation
  • The opportunity to be featured on DICK’S social media channels, website, brand videos and photoshoots, instore signage and more
  • Early access to select product launches, VIP events, celebrity appearances and more
  • An opportunity to participate in “Coaches Corner,” sessions where members connect directly with DICK’S internal influencer marketing team and influencer agency, Fohr, for industry insights, trends, and hands-on guidance

“After joining the DICK’S Sporting Goods Varsity Team last year, I’ve seen firsthand how intentional this community is about supporting the next generation of athletes and creators,” said RobertAnthony Cruz. “It is a tremendous honor for me to step into the role of team captain, and I’m excited to continue promoting a love of sport through mentorship and content.”

“I’m thrilled to be a DICK’S Varsity Team Captain this year, DICK’S has been woven into my story as an athlete, a coach, and a creator,” said Emily Harrigan. “It’s a brand that has supported my love for sports at every stage and continues to reflect the passion, purpose, and creativity that guide my journey.”

The 2026 DICK’S Varsity Team application opens today and closes on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Additional information, including application criteria and a submission link can be found at www.dicksvarsityteam.com.

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Building Performance Association (BPA) is proud to announce the approval of its National Guideline Standards for Registered Apprenticeship Programs by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship.

This milestone enables BPA to sponsor energy efficiency apprenticeship programs nationwide for the Energy Specialist and Home Performance Laborer occupations, supporting workforce development and expanding access to standardized, high-quality career pathways.

“This marks a significant advancement for the energy efficiency industry,” said Brook Vernon, BPA’s Workforce Development Programs Manager. “Over the past two years, through our collaboration in the Apprenticeships in Clean Energy (ACE Network)—led by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC)—BPA has provided extensive technical assistance nationwide to support and expand registered apprenticeship programs. At the same time, we’ve deepened our understanding of the tools and strategies that drive impactful workforce development for building performance. Achieving National Guideline Standards has always been our ultimate goal. We’ve developed rigorous, future-ready standards that incorporate, advance, and establish energy efficiency occupations.”

A Registered Apprenticeship is a paid job where apprentices receive on-the-job training under the supervision of a mentor along with related technical instruction. As a program sponsor, BPA helps employers create apprenticeships that align with federal and industry standards. BPA provides support by mapping out a plan for the apprentice’s journey, guiding employers through the Department of Labor’s registration process, providing technical instruction to apprentices, and ensuring that all aspects of the program meet national standards. BPA also assists with connecting employers to apprentices, and vice versa.

BPA developed these guideline standards with support from the ACE Network, a national coalition led by IREC. The national approval builds on BPA’s success in assisting with apprenticeships in Maryland, Virginia, Colorado, and Maine. To date, the ACE Network has supported the registration of over 1,000 apprentices nationwide.

“These National Guideline Standards are a major milestone not only for BPA, but for the broader building and home energy performance ecosystem,” said Pagan Poggione, Vice President of Workforce Strategy and Innovation at IREC. “They provide a clear, consistent framework for employers to develop high-quality Registered Apprenticeship programs that prepare workers for family-sustaining careers. IREC is proud of our collaboration with BPA and our shared commitment to advancing workforce solutions that are practical, scalable, and aligned with the evolving needs of the energy industry.”

BPA’s Energy Specialist Apprenticeship program model offers a customizable plan that prepares new and prospective workers to become energy auditors, analysts, and specialists. Apprentices complete over 2,000 hours of on-the-job learning and 144+ hours of related technical instruction, covering topics such as building science, weatherization, energy audits, and healthy housing. The curriculum also includes safety certifications, leadership development, and pathways to industry-recognized credentials like Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) certifications.

“The Energy Specialist Apprenticeship model provided me with a customized pathway to train two new workers who were able to contribute immediately. With BPA providing the structure, training curriculum, and ongoing support, I was able to focus on running my business while bringing on new employees to help me scale. I’m also excited to say that, starting in February, we intend to enroll a new apprentice in the program,” said Justin Holmes, owner of Total Home Performance in Easton, Maryland.

Additionally, BPA has created a Home Performance Laborer apprenticeship program that overlaps with the Energy Specialist program, ensuring that apprentices have an all-encompassing skillset that makes them an excellent fit for a variety of energy efficiency careers.

With increasing investments in energy efficiency programs, demand for skilled workers is high. BPA’s national standards ensure consistent, high-quality training and support for small businesses, contractors, and weatherization agencies—especially those serving low-income communities.

“This achievement strengthens the workforce and helps build a more resilient future for communities across the country. This success would not have been possible without the steadfast support of the ACE Network, especially IREC and the Institute for Workplace Skills and Innovation,” Vernon said.

Cummins

COLUMBUS, Ind., January 21, 2026 /3BL/ – Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), a global leader in power technology, announced its selection for a $2.1M grant from the Centralia Coal Transition Grants Energy Technology Board to support the continued development and testing of hybrid haul truck systems at the Proving Grounds – Centralia (PGC) in Washington State. The funding, which will support activities through 2027 – including technology development and validation, training, documentation, and customer engagement – will accelerate Cummins’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the global mining industry through its subsidiary, First Mode.

Cummins acquired First Mode assets in February 2025, continuing its mission to decarbonize heavy industry. Since 2022, First Mode has operated at the TransAlta Centralia Coal Mine, transforming the site into a hub for clean energy innovation. The newly awarded grant will fund critical testing, training, documentation, and customer engagement activities at PGC over the next two years, supporting both trial and limited production releases of hybrid haul truck systems.

“Cummins is proud to continue our mission of delivering impactful, sustainable solutions to the mining industry,” said Molly Puga, general manager of First Mode. “This grant enables us to accelerate product development and showcase Centralia as a global center for clean technology innovation.”

The hybrid system developed by First Mode captures energy from braking events and redeploys it to reduce diesel consumption and enhance truck productivity. With potential fuel savings of up to 30%, the technology presents a compelling business case for mine operators aiming to lower emissions without sacrificing performance.

In addition to advancing product development, the grant will support training programs for mine site personnel and regional maintainers, development of installation and maintenance manuals, and customer demonstrations – all designed to build trust and ensure safe, effective deployment of the hybrid systems worldwide.

“This investment not only supports environmental goals but also strengthens the local economy,” said Mickey Dreher, Centralia Coal Transition Grants board member. “Cummins’ commitment to community engagement and workforce development in Centralia aligns perfectly with our vision for a sustainable future.”

Cummins plans to deliver up to five trial units and approximately 30 limited production units as part of this initiative, with a full production release targeted for late 2027. The company is also exploring opportunities to expand hybrid technology into other heavy industries, including freight rail.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Olympians Association (WOA) will further increase their joint support for Olympians. The two organisations have just renewed their partnership by signing a new Cooperation and Licence Agreement.

International Olympic Committee news

Building on the IOC’s longstanding support of the WOA, the Agreement is aimed at:

  • enhancing the engagement and support for Olympians
  • strengthening the collaboration between the two organisations; and
  • strengthening the good governance which underpins the partnership.

The Agreement also focuses on maximising the impact of joint initiatives and resources to ensure that Olympians continue to be empowered to serve as role models and ambassadors of the Olympic Movement.

IOC President and Double Olympic Champion Kirsty Coventry said: “As Olympians, we share a lifelong bond through the values and experiences that define the Olympic Movement. This renewed partnership between the IOC and the WOA strengthens our collective commitment to support Olympians — not only during their sporting careers but throughout their lives. Together, we will continue to empower Olympians as role models, community leaders and ambassadors of the Olympic ideals around the world.”

WOA President Joël Bouzou OLY, Olympic bronze medallist and World Champion, said: “ We are delighted that our relationship with the IOC is being strengthened so that we can best serve the needs of our National Associations and individual Olympians with more resources and more support from the IOC. We have achieved much over the last three Olympic cycles, including the creation of the OLY post-nominal letters and our grants and scholarship programmes, and we look forward to working hand in hand with the IOC to deliver even more services and opportunities for Olympians. ”

About the WOA
