New Jersey is being recognized as a national leader in energy efficiency programming and outcomes in the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy’s (ACEEE) 2025 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard, which ranks all fifty states and Washington D.C. New Jersey ranked #8, returning to the top 10 for the first time since 2008 and was listed as one of the most improved States.

“We are thrilled to earn this major achievement with our rankings in the 2025 ACEEE State Scorecard,” said NJBPU President Christine Guhl-Sadovy. “This confirms our State’s investments in efficiency programs are among the best in the nation at delivering results by reducing energy demand, delivering energy savings, and securing long-term bill stabilization for New Jersey ratepayers.”

“Today’s announcement underscores the tremendous strides New Jersey has made in the years following the signing of the Clean Energy Act into law by Gov. Murphy,” said Eric Miller, executive director of the Office of Climate Action and the Green Economy.

Charlotte, N.C., April 18, 2025 /3BL/ – On April 18, Duke Energy celebrates National Lineworker Appreciation Day – a day to recognize the service, commitment and sacrifices of lineworkers, team members who are critical to ensuring customers have access to safe and reliable electricity.

Why it matters: Lineworkers provide an invaluable service to communities. Among the first to respond after storms to help ensure public safety, they frequently work in challenging conditions including extreme weather and heights to restore power and keep the lights on.

Lineworkers support the growth of industries and businesses in Duke Energy’s service areas across the Carolinas, Florida and the Midwest by helping build and expand power infrastructure. Line technicians install new power lines, transformers and other equipment to reliably accommodate growth. This work is increasingly important as communities continue to grow and new and existing businesses expand.

A historic year: Hurricane Helene (Sept. 26, 2024) was one of the most impactful storms in Duke Energy’s history, requiring an unprecedented response. Duke Energy lineworkers – many of whom were personally impacted by the storm – restored more than 3.1 million customer outages in the Carolinas, Florida and Midwest after Helene hit.

By the numbers

• In the Carolinas, Hurricane Helene response involved 23,000 field personnel from more than 19 states and Canada.
• Lineworkers replaced 14,000 power poles and 9 million feet of wire as part of the restoration.
• In total, more than 10,000 Duke Energy and contract lineworkers, including substation and relay technicians, make up Duke Energy’s lineworker team. Substation technicians manage energy distribution at substations, while relay technicians test electrical equipment to ensure reliable power distribution.
• Since 2020, the Duke Energy Foundation has committed more than $3.3 million in grant funding to support lineworker programs and participants.

A fast-growing occupation: The demand for lineworkers continues to grow as Duke Energy engages in more grid and infrastructure improvement projects. The company works with and recruits from 22 community college lineworker training programs throughout its service areas that have lineworker training programs.

Q: What is your team working on?

David Heredero: My team is working on defining the best approach to building electrolyzers in our plant in Guadalajara, setting up the right processes, the right organization, and a performance-driven culture.

Q: What do you love about your job?

David Heredero: I love the great opportunity to contribute to shaping this new industry and to do it together with people who bring unique backgrounds and from whom it is great to learn.

Q: What have you learned from your team?

David Heredero: Their passion, excitement and determination to make great things happen have been valuable lessons from my team. They are a strong group of people, ready to overcome difficulties and changes.

Q: What impact do you hope this work will have?

David Heredero: We will play a key role in the energy transition. The more electrolyzers we produce from our plant in Guadalajara, the more we will help decarbonize the economy.

Accelera, the zero-emissions business segment of Cummins Inc., opened its new electrolyzer manufacturing plant in Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, in October 2024.

Spanning 24,000 square meters (~260,000 square feet), the facility marks a €50 million investment and is one of the world’s largest dedicated to electrolyzer production. With an initial production capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers annually, the plant is designed to scale beyond 1 gigawatt (GW) as demand grows. The facility currently employs around 150 highly skilled workers, with the potential to reach 200 as operations ramp up.

In line with Accelera’s commitment to sustainability, the facility integrates 3,000 rooftop solar panels, a geothermal heating and cooling system, and rainwater harvesting, enabling up to 70% of its energy needs to be met on-site. This plant plays an important role in advancing Europe’s green hydrogen production.

Henkel continues to deepen its commitment to environmental stewardship through an ongoing partnership with the Mill River Park Collaborative in Stamford, CT. This engaging partnership sees Henkel employees actively participating in sustainability initiatives and park revitalization projects, fostering a stronger connection between the company and the local community.

Since 2021, Henkel and Mill River Park Collaborative, the nonprofit dedicated to creating and sustaining the park, have partnered to provide children with programming through Henkel Researchers’ World, a global education initiative designed to ignite a passion for science. To date, Henkel has reached over 7,000 children in the greater Stamford area through its dedicated classroom in the Whittingham Discovery Center in Mill River Park, including 4th grade classes in the city.

In addition to Henkel Researchers World, the company’s support of the park encompasses employee volunteerism and other programs throughout the year. Most recently, Henkel announced the establishment of the Henkel Welcoming Garden at the park, a place to gather, relax, play, learn and connect with nature.
