In a world where attention is a precious commodity, capturing the hearts and minds of an audience has never been more challenging or more critical. As social feeds flood with headlines, causes, and calls to action, even the most urgent messages can get buried in the scroll. For organizations committed to social impact, the question isn’t just what you stand for, but how you get people to stop, listen, and act.

That’s exactly the topic explored in a recent episode of the RENEWables podcast featuring Eric Ressler, founder and creative director of Cosmic, a creative agency focused on empowering mission-driven organizations to rise above the noise.

A Podcast for the Impact-Driven Age
In this episode, Ressler shares his belief that strong brand strategy and compelling digital experiences aren’t optional for today’s change-makers—they’re essential. While many nonprofits and advocacy organizations still treat branding as secondary, Ressler argues that in the age of information overload, your visual identity, messaging, and online presence may be the most powerful tools you have.

And it’s not just about looking polished. It’s about making sure your message resonates, your mission is clearly understood, and your audience feels inspired to engage. When attention spans are short and distractions are endless, the organizations that communicate clearly and authentically are the ones that make the biggest impact.

“If we want to compete in the digital space where attention is limited, we need to meet people where they are—with a message that breaks through.” — Eric Ressler

Why This Matters More Than Ever
While the episode focuses on storytelling and branding, its underlying relevance is hard to miss. Across the globe, nonprofits are navigating tighter budgets, donor fatigue, and increased competition for engagement. At the same time, they’re being asked to respond to complex issues like climate change, equity, education and mental health with speed and scale.

In this context, effective communication isn’t a luxury, it’s a strategic necessity.

Cosmic’s work bridges this gap by helping social impact organizations clarify their theory of change, craft purposeful content, and create experiences that connect emotionally and visually. It’s a holistic approach to brand-building that doesn’t just support the mission—it amplifies it.

Listen & Learn
If you’re leading, supporting, or partnering with a mission-driven organization, this episode is a must-listen. Whether you’re a marketer looking for sharper messaging, a nonprofit executive rethinking your outreach, or simply someone who believes in the power of good design for good causes—Eric Ressler’s insights offer fresh perspective and practical takeaways.

Rooted in strong values of service and community giveback, PuroClean is overjoyed to honor unsung heroes across the country with awards, recognitions, and events to celebrate their service and dedication.

In celebration of National Superhero Day on April 28, PuroClean Franchise Owners partnered with local community groups and organizations, nominating important figures in their market who they deem superheroes. BEIJING, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — “Some media reports suggest that certain developed countries have already abandoned their carbon reduction efforts. As a developing country, why does China still remain committed to cutting carbon emissions?” This is a question posed by a reader on people.cn.

Reducing carbon emissions is not undertaken at others’ request but is an unwavering commitment China has chosen to pursue.

First, we must discuss what is “carbon.” In the context of “carbon reduction,” the term “carbon” does not refer to the chemical element itself, but to greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, which contribute to the greenhouse effect. Among these, carbon dioxide is most closely associated with human activities and is thus commonly used as a representative indicator. In everyday language, “carbon dioxide” is often abbreviated simply as “carbon.”

Why reduce carbon?

Carbon reduction is urgently needed because global warming poses a serious threat to human survival and the continuity of civilization.

The United Nations has repeatedly warned of a direct link between rising greenhouse gas emissions and the growing frequency and severity of climate-related disasters, as global warming accelerates. Data from the World Meteorological Organization show that 2024 was the hottest year on record, with extreme weather events seen in many parts of the world. Compared with the early 2000s, the frequency of record-breaking monthly rainfall in 2024 increased by 27 percent, while the frequency of record-breaking daily rainfall rose by 52 percent, according to Xinhua.

No country is immune to the impacts of global warming. In China, the China Climate Bulletin released by the China Meteorological Administration showed that in 2024, the national average temperature reached 10.9 C, the highest since records began in 1951. The number of high-temperature days exceeded the average by 6.6 days, the second-highest since 1961.

Annual precipitation reached 697.7 millimeters, 9 percent above normal levels. Climate-related natural disasters disrupted agricultural production and threatened lives and property.

Beyond climate security, there are also deeper reasons for carbon reduction at both international and domestic levels.

At the international level, carbon reduction is an urgent need for China to take the initiative to shoulder the responsibilities of a major country and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Carbon emissions reduction allows China to maintain strategic initiative amid the global shift toward green and low-carbon development. China’s decarbonization efforts also assist developing countries in strengthening their climate resilience, thereby contributing to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

As a key participant, contributor, and leader in advancing global ecological civilization, China plays an active role in international environmental governance and continues to enhance its voice and influence in the global environmental governance system. The country has established the world’s largest and most complete new-energy industrial chain. In 2023 alone, China’s exports of wind and solar products helped other countries reduce carbon emissions by approximately 810 million tones.

Domestically, carbon reduction is conducive to driving China’s green and low-carbon transition and ensuring sustainable development. It is conducive to meeting the people’s growing demand for a beautiful ecological environment and promoting harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

China has made significant progress in optimizing its energy mix, with significant growth in hydropower, nuclear, wind, and solar power generation. These efforts have contributed not only to lower carbon emissions but also led to a significant decline in PM2.5 and other air pollutants. From 2015 to 2023, the average PM2.5 concentration in prefecture-level cities and above fell by more than 30 percent. From 2013 to 2022, the BeijingTianjinHebei region saw its GDP grow 60 percent, while the region’s PM2.5 levels dropped by more than 60 percent.

Achieving sustainable devt

Carbon reduction is conducive to solving prominent problems of resource and environmental constraints and achieving sustainable development. China leads the world in total installed capacity of wind, solar, hydro, and biomass energy.

In the past decade, the proportion of coal in China’s energy consumption has dropped by 12.6 percentage points. From 2013 to 2023, China’s annual economic growth rate of 6.1 percent was supported by an average annual energy consumption growth rate of 3.3 percent. In 2023, renewable energy accounted for approximately one-third of the nation’s total electricity consumption.

Carbon reduction is conducive to adapting to the trend of technological progress and promoting the transformation and upgrading of economic structure. China has phased out more than 150 million tons of outdated steel production capacity, completed ultra-low emissions transformation of 134 million tons of steel throughout the process, and built the world’s largest, most complete and most competitive clean energy industry chain. China’s output of polysilicon, silicon wafers, battery cells and modules accounts for more than 80 percent of the world’s total, and wind turbine manufacturing capacity accounts for 60 percent of the world’s total.

This shows that while reducing carbon emissions, development is also achieved. Thinking about why to reduce carbon emissions is essentially exploring how to develop.

The development China pursues is one that meets the people’s growing aspirations for a better life and embodies the new development philosophy.

While some countries have backtracked from their carbon reduction commitments, China has remained unwavering. Green development forms the foundation of high-quality development, and carbon reduction is an inherent requirement for promoting high-quality development. While reducing carbon emissions, we are also achieving a shift in our development model.

When the wind from Zhangbei in North China’s Hebei Province powers the lights of Beijing, and “blue skies and starry nights” become a daily norm, such deep romance and steadfast sense of security are truly captivating.

China’s unwavering commitment to carbon emissions reduction is fundamentally driven by China’s own desire to upgrade its economic development model, said Li Changan, a professor at the Academy of China Open Economy Studies at the University of International Business and Economics.

“The country is shifting away from a resource-intensive and extensive growth approach toward one that is innovation-driven and efficiency-oriented. This transformation naturally brings higher environmental standards, including stricter targets for emission reductions, making decarbonization a strategic necessity,” he told the Global Times on Monday.

Li noted that China has already built a competitive edge in green, low-carbon, and new-energy sectors, which provides a solid foundation for the country to stay the course on green development and accelerate its low-carbon transition.

Optimizing the energy mix and advancing renewable energy, Li said, are not only vital to supporting green development but also crucial for enhancing national energy security and preserving strategic autonomy.

Report highlights positive progress in API representation, as well as opportunities to improve

LOS ANGELES, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Geena Davis Institute (GDI), in partnership with the CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment) and the IW Group, is proud to release new research from the 2025 Rewriting the Script: A New Era for API Voices in Hollywood reporta follow-up to their groundbreaking 2021 study, I Am Not a Fetish or Model Minority: Redefining What it Means to Be API in the Entertainment Industry. This new data deepens the conversation around Asian and Pacific Islander (API) representation in mainstream films between 2010-2024, and Hollywood’s progress in diversity, inclusion and authentic storytelling.

The study found that almost two thirds (62%) of API industry professionals feel their voice is valued, a significant increase from 2021 when only about 44% surveyed felt this way. It also found API industry professionals are experiencing fewer microaggressions and a decreased sense of tokenization in the workplace.

GDI and CAPE hosted a launch event in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 29 to unveil the new report findings. The event featured a powerful panel discussion with leading creators, cultural commentators, and industry executives. Together, they explored the enduring challenges and shifting perceptions of API identity both on screen and behind the camera, while reflecting on the positive progress made so far.

“Representation matters, both for how communities see themselves, and for how the world sees them,” said Geena Davis, Founder of GDI. “This new research is a powerful reminder that progress is possible when we prioritize authenticity. We’re proud to partner with CAPE to help ensure that API voices and stories continue to be seen, heard, and valued in Hollywood and beyond.”

The event’s opening remarks were delivered by Davis and Michelle K. Sugihara, Executive Director and CEO of CAPE, along with a presentation of the research from Meredith Conroy, Ph.D., GDI VP and a moderated discussion featuring Madeline Di Nonno, GDI President and CEO; Jonathan Ng Sposato, Joysauce Founder and CEO; Albert Cheng, VP, Head of Prime Video U.S. and Poorna Jagannathan, Actor.

“CAPE is honored to partner with the Geena Davis Institute once again to revisit these important barometers of media representation,” Sugihara said. “In these challenging times facing the entertainment industry, this research provides both a snapshot in time and an encouraging bellwether of progress as we collectively push for more nuanced and varied stories from our communities.”

Additional key findings from Rewriting the Script: A New Era for API Voices in Hollywood report include:

There are still gaps in how API representation is being portrayed behind the scenes…

  • Those surveyed agreed that presence among leadership is an important point of representation for them personally (87.2%), but far fewer felt the industry as a whole (43.9%) shares this stance.

And on screen…however, progress has been made.

  • 72% of API industry professionals say they’ve experienced microaggressions at work compared to 80.9% in 2021.
  • Most respondents (81.7%) reported that they are often the only API person in the room, however this is down about 8 percentage points (from 89.4%) from 2021.
  • Nearly two thirds have felt tokenized (62.9%), which is down 10 percentage points from 2021 (72.5%).

But there’s still MORE to be done.

  • When survey respondents were asked about what they would like to see change regarding API representation in Hollywood, one of the most common words mentioned was “more”: “more stories”, “more diversity”, “more authenticity”, and “more opportunities”.

The full report is available at GeenaDavisInstitute.org.

About Geena Davis Institute

Can you describe your journey to becoming a Senior Security Engineer and what inspired you to choose this career path?

My journey into cybersecurity has been an exciting one. I started my career over a decade ago, focusing initially on infrastructure monitoring, application monitoring, and other related areas. In those early years, I developed a strong foundation in managing and maintaining critical IT systems. As I learned more about the growing risks in the digital world, I found myself drawn to cybersecurity. The idea of protecting systems and data from evolving threats fascinated me. Over the years, I transitioned from monitoring to protecting, working hands-on with evolving threats and building defenses.

Today, as a Senior Security Engineer at GoDaddy, I focus on building and fine-tuning threat detection strategies to protect our environment. What continues to inspire me is the dynamic nature of this field—there’s always something new to learn, and the work we do directly contributes to keeping organizations secure.

Can you share a memorable experience that reflects a value of our company?

One experience that stands out was when our team was working on building a comprehensive Detection Library and a Data Dictionary from scratch. It was a huge challenge, but we believed in “Owning Outcomes” and “Building Value” for the organization.

We worked together across teams—Detections, Monitoring, IR, CTI, and SOC analysts—to create over 1,100+ detections that improved our security posture. There were tight deadlines and technical hurdles, but we stayed committed, constantly sharing ideas, and helping each other out. This collaboration was a great example of “Joining Forces” and “Working Courageously”, because we weren’t afraid to try new approaches. Looking back, the success of that project made me realize how passionate and driven our teams are. It truly embodied the spirit of GoDaddy’s values.

I definitely can’t take all the credit for this. It was a complete team effort, and I was lucky to work alongside some amazing colleagues.

What makes GoDaddy different than any other company in India?

For me, what makes GoDaddy stand out is its culture of ownership and collaboration. Every individual here is encouraged to take responsibility for their work and make meaningful contributions. At the same time, there’s a strong sense of teamwork.

People are always willing to help each other, share knowledge, and work together to solve complex problems.

Another thing that makes GoDaddy special is its focus on innovation and learning. The leadership team is committed to enhancing employees’ skills and consistently supports the exploration of new ideas or methods to improve security. This environment motivates me to do my best every day.

How do you approach constant learning in the field of security, and what resources do you find most valuable?

In cybersecurity, standing still isn’t an option—threats evolve daily. Personally, I make it a habit to read blogs, whitepapers, and research articles regularly. Some of my favourite resources include blogs from SANS Institute, MITRE ATT&CK updates, and cybersecurity communities like Medium’s InfoSec section and Reddit’s NetSec. At GoDaddy, I’m lucky to have teammates who share knowledge freely, so our discussions often turn into learning sessions. For me, it’s about staying proactive and soaking up as much as I can from diverse sources.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I take great interest in playing cricket and badminton. I am fortunate to be a part of GoDaddy, a company that actively promotes a healthy work-life balance and encourages employee well-being. Additionally, I dedicate time to reading, which not only offers me relaxation but also broadens my perspective and supports my continuous personal growth. I like to listen to podcasts, especially those related to tech, personal growth, or storytelling.

Are you enjoying this series and want to know more about life at GoDaddy? Check out our GoDaddy Life social pages! Follow us to meet our team, learn more about our culture (Teams, ERGs, Locations), careers, and so much more. You’re more than just your day job, so come propel your career with us.

Pannawish Tanthawichian was a participating high school student in the Otis Made to Move Communities™ challenge in 2022-23. “Brands can’t achieve their sustainability goals alone,” said Bob Mitchell, CEO of the Global Electronics Council. ” It takes a connected, capable supply chain. The Supplier Engagement Program for EPEAT further enables suppliers as partners in sustainable product development, giving them the tools and recognition they need to lead alongside EPEAT Participating Manufacturers.”

The program is open to all tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers of EPEAT Participating Manufacturers in the electronics value chain, regardless of size, product category, or location.

“Asus is very excited about this new opportunity to streamline value chain training on the new EPEAT criteria and increase supplier collaboration to boost further development of sustainable electronics” a representative from the company commented.

About the Global Electronics Council

The Global Electronics Council (GEC) envisions a world with only sustainable electronic technology that enhances the well-being of people and planet. Our mission is to accelerate the transformation of markets toward prioritizing the most sustainable electronic products and services.

As stewards of the EPEAT ecolabel, we set global standards for electronics that empower brands, their value chains and their buyers to achieve ambitious sustainability goals. Through our thought leadership, advocacy, and EPEAT ecolabel, GEC is helping to reshape the electronics industry into a driving force for environmental preservation and global well-being.

Our EPEAT Ecolabel

We are stewards of the EPEAT ecolabel – the definitive global standard to drive change across the technology sector from extraction to end of life. EPEAT enables manufacturers to follow strict third party verified standards while providing transparency for buyers.

Since its launch in 2006, procurement professionals have reported purchases of over 2.7 billion EPEAT products, generating cost savings exceeding 34 billion USD and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 341 million metric tonnes.

By Molly Frey, Frey Vineyards

Frey Vineyards sits at the heart of Mendocino County in Redwood Valley, tucked into the hills of Northern California. There, the Frey family grows organic grapes in organic vineyards and makes organic wine. Wine Enthusiast awarded Mendocino County the AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Year award for 2024, in large part due to the sustainable winery practices in this area. Mendocino County is California’s greenest AVA, in large part, thanks to the efforts of the Frey family’s presence here. In addition to championing Organics and Biodynamics in winemaking, the Frey family has purchased tons of grapes over the years from local wineries, thereby encouraging the growers in the area to go Organic or Biodynamic.

What distinguishes Frey from many other businesses is that many of the family members work and live at Frey Vineyards. When Jonathan and Katrina Frey established Frey Vineyards, they were really organic farmers that took an opportunity to pioneer the organic wine movement here in the United States. They weren’t businesspeople looking to capitalize on a niche market; they were a family devoted to organic farming and gardening that decided to create the organic category in viticulture and winemaking. Their savvy business sense came out of the necessity of wanting to and needing to promote the category of Organics.
