CLYDEBANK, Scotland, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Students from Glasgow Kelvin College and members of the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) were invited behind the scenes at West Dunbartonshire Council’s Queens Quay Energy Centre in Clydebank, home to the UK’s largest water-source district heat pump scheme.

The award-winning project was designed and delivered by Vital Energi, with two 2.6MW ammonia-based heat pumps engineered and supplied by Star Refrigeration. The educational visit was jointly organised by Star Refrigeration, Vital Energi, and West Dunbartonshire Council. Industry experts Nicky Cowan (Star Refrigeration), Shannon O’Neil (Vital Energi), and Adam Strachan (IOR) provided attendees with detailed insights into the facility’s operation, efficiency measures, and environmental benefits.

The Queens Quay heat pump system extracts thermal energy from the River Clyde to deliver low-carbon, affordable heating and hot water to local residential buildings, council facilities, and businesses. Water from the river passes through specialised self-cleaning filtration systems designed to remove debris and prevent mussel colonisation before being processed through titanium heat exchangers. Thermal energy is extracted from the water, which is then returned to the river approximately three degrees cooler. This captured energy is boosted by ammonia-based heat pumps to temperatures of between 75°C and 80°C for circulation within a 5-kilometre district heating network.

One key topic discussed during the visit was how recent upgrades to heat exchangers and radiator systems in connected buildings have optimised the network temperature, significantly improving system efficiency. Attendees also learned about the impacts of climate change, with the facility reporting higher river temperatures than historically recorded—reaching up to 21°C compared to past averages of 18°C to 19°C.

Nicky Cowan, Star Renewable Energy Manager at Star Refrigeration said: “Educational visits like these offer an invaluable experience for students and industry professionals. At Queens Quay, we were able to showcase not just the engineering innovations behind the UK’s largest water-source heat pump scheme, but also highlight the practical challenges and solutions involved in delivering sustainable heating on a large scale.”

“Engaging directly with the technology helps future engineers and industry specialists see firsthand the critical role heat pumps will play in achieving net zero heating. It’s inspiring to see students connecting theoretical learning with real world applications and understanding how their skills can directly contribute to a more sustainable future”.

Queens Quay represents a significant milestone for sustainable heating solutions in the UK, joining similar pioneering projects delivered in cities such as Bristol, Jarrow, and Liverpool. These successful district heating installations highlight the important role water source heat pumps will play in meeting national carbon reduction targets.

Plans are already in place to expand the network with additional heat pumps, a new thermal storage tank, and connections to hospitals and new residential developments. Nicky Cowan said, “One of the truly exciting things about this project is that, as it expands and more heat loads are connected, it will continue to become more efficient, which will lead to lower energy costs and higher carbon savings”.

The continued growth of the Queens Quay district heating system which is planned to occupy 23-hectares, creating 1,000 private homes, 200 rented homes and the associated infrastructure to support them, demonstrates how low-carbon, locally powered heating can be delivered at scale. As more residents and businesses connect to the system, it serves as a practical model for communities across the country looking to support urban growth while meeting national climate goals.

NEW YORK, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A year after the debut of the all-new 2025 K4 sedan and the teasing of a bold Sparkling Yellow hatchback variant, the K4 is once again making its mark on The Big Apple. Unveiled at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, the 2026 K4 Hatchback builds on the success of its sedan counterpart while embracing a more athletic spirit. “After the overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s hatchback teaser in New York, we knew we had struck a chord with car enthusiasts and consumers alike,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America. “Built on the success of the K4 sedan, this hatchback isn’t just about style – it’s about attitude. With available turbo power, a sport-tuned suspension, a more compact footprint, and exceptional versatility, the K4 Hatchback is designed for those who crave excitement at every turn.”

The K4 Hatchback is expected to launch in the U.S. late 2025 and will be available in standard appearance and GT-Line trims.

Hatching a New Look for K4

Drawing from the bold proportions and wide stance of the K4 sedan, the K4 Hatchback carves out its own identity with a striking floating roof design that seamlessly extends into the rear hatch. Its fluid, athletic profile enhances its dynamic presence while embodying Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. Despite being 11 inches shorter than its counterpart (GT-Line is 10.6 inches shorter), the K4 Hatchback maintains the sedan’s class-leading rear legroom6 and gains an extra inch of rear headroom, making it a class leader in both areas. Its versatile cargo space further boosts utility with 22.2 cu. ft. of room behind the rear seats, expanding to 59.3 cu. ft. with the seats folded flat.

Carrying over key design elements from the sedan, the K4 Hatchback features the vertical LED headlights and taillights inspired by the award-winning EV9. Hidden rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar further accentuate its hatchback proportions, reinforcing its athletic and muscular profile. Adding to its distinct identity, the K4 Hatchback is available in an exclusive Sparkling Yellow exterior color.

As with other GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo models in the Kia lineup, The K4 Hatchback GT-Line models feature unique design elements that amplify its sporty character, including a three-spoke steering wheel, paddle shifters, 18-inch alloy wheels (compared to the standard 17-inch alloy wheels), gloss black mirror caps, side sills, and wheel arch moldings. Additionally, the GT-Line Turbo gets small cube LED projection headlights, LED fog lights, plus a standard power sunroof and 16-inch front brakes.

Effortless Integration, Elevated Comfort

Like the K4 sedan, the K4 Hatchback’s driver cockpit is designed around a dual digital display7 that spans nearly 30 inches, combining an intuitive layout with the technology of Kia’s available Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system. Wireless Apple CarPlay8 and Android Auto9 come standard across all Hatchback trims for connectivity on the go, as well as a wireless phone charger. Available features include heated front seats10, a Harman Kardon11 premium audio system, and Digital Key 2.012 with Ultra-wideband technology that allows compatible smart devices to function as virtual keys.

Available Digital Features and Services13 lets owners access Premium Data Services – including Vehicle Software Over-the-Air14 (OTA) updates, music streaming, and WiFi hotspot – via the Kia Connect Store. With Kia Connect’s generative AI-based voice assistant, drivers can enjoy control over key vehicle functions by simply saying, “Hey Kia” to adjust climate settings, manage audio, and more. The enhanced Voice Recognition feature can now answer certain questions about the owner’s manual, suggest places to visit, play voice-activated games, and more, further enriching the in-vehicle experience.

On the Road

Carried over from the K4 sedan, the K4 Hatchback will come with a standard 2.0-liter engine that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque, matched with an intelligently variable transmission (IVT).

An available 1.6-liter, turbocharged engine sends 190 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Exclusive to the K4 Hatchback GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo models is a sportier suspension for improved handling over the standard trims.

Next Level Driver Convenience

The K4 Hatchback will also offer the Kia ADAS15 suite, mirroring the sedan with notable systems including standard Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)16 and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC w/ S&G)17.

Optional on K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo models, Evasive Steering Assist can help avoid obstacles in certain situations when space allows, and Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA-2)18 adds convenience by maintaining distance from other vehicles and keeping the car centered within its lane on certain highways.

Blind-Spot Collision Warning19 (BCW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert20 (RCTA) are standard, while Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist21 (FCA-BCA) and Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)22, Surround-View Monitor (SVM)23 and Parking Distance Warning24 are available.

Arrival in the U.S.

The K4 Hatchback is expected to arrive in late 2025, with pricing, trim details, and EPA-rated fuel economy to be announced closer to its on-sale date.

Crowdfunded billboards for the canceled cult hit make waves in Los Angeles and Times Square.

LOS ANGELES, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Fans of the canceled Netflix series Dead Boy Detectives, in an effort to resurrect the cult hit from a premature death, have crowdfunded billboard advertising campaigns in Los Angeles and New York City for the one-year anniversary of the show’s debut.

To raise awareness of audience demand, the Save Dead Boy Detectives Campaign purchased two billboards in Hollywood and one in New York City’s Times Square shortly after the show’s cancellation. One of the Hollywood locations, five minutes from Netflix’s Los Angeles headquarters, went on to smash records as the longest-running fandom-funded billboard of all time. During its run of 112 days, members of the show’s cast, as well as the composer, visited the location to share photos of the billboard on social media.

Now, as the anniversary of the show’s launch approaches, the campaign has stepped up its efforts. A new billboard is currently live in Los Angeles, directly outside of Netflix’s LA office, and is slated to run through the end of April. Another will appear in Times Square from April 19-25, the week of the anniversary. The campaign also has plans this year for fan meetups worldwide, a letter-writing initiative, sticker and flyer campaigns, and a charity calendar.

Fans aren’t the only ones who recognize the show’s appeal.

Dead Boy Detectives won the Rotten Tomatoes Golden Tomato Award for Best Fantasy Series of 2024, a DGC Award for directorial merit, and was featured on more than 90 best-of lists praising its quality. The show, which appeared in Netflix’s top 10 for three weeks running, has been commended by critics for its fresh take on the supernatural mystery genre, witty writing, and quirky humor.

A paranormal detective procedural, Dead Boy Detectives follows the titular dead boys, Edwin and Charles, who form a detective agency to help ghosts like themselves whose cases would otherwise go unsolved. Thanks to its widely-lauded LGBTQ representation, the show quickly became a beacon to the queer community, who praise its handling of dark subject matter and well-written character arcs, as well as its themes of kindness, devotion, and the struggle to leave the world a better place than you found it.

By all indications, the series resonated with audiences; it boasts a 92% fresh rate on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the highest ever achieved by a DC Comics live-action series.

Despite its positive reception, Dead Boy Detectives was one of the most-viewed Netflix shows of 2024 to be canceled. Fans, however, hold out hope that they can bring the series back from the grave.

“We’re not giving up,” said a spokesperson for the Save Dead Boy Detectives Campaign, when asked for comment. “This story matters, and the impact it’s made on its audience can’t be overstated. We’re going to right this wrong, together, so the creators have a chance to finish what they started.”

SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — With a new chassis variant that features the recently launched e-machine and charging options, plus new rear axle options, Scania provides bus operators with a compelling alternative for electrifying transport operations beyond purely urban applications.

Scania has expanded its e-mobility offering by launching a 6×2*4 variant on the battery-electric bus platform introduced in 2023. The new low-entry variant is designed to meet the demands of medium and heavy-duty operations, and with an increased passenger capacity compared to the existing 4×2 LE BEV, it is suitable for city, suburban and shorter intercity routes.

Featuring a new rear axle as well as the recently launched e-machine and charging interface, all of which are also available for the existing two-axle, the three-axle variant offers a competitive solution that is both efficient and highly reliable.

The new electric chassis is built to deliver maximum performance under tough conditions throughout its service life, and its flexibility allows for adaptations to further fit both bodybuilder needs as well as customer demands.

The axle gears are designed for the best possible energy efficiency and long service life. Two new axle gears come with faster gear ratios and reduce internal losses, bringing improved efficiency. In addition, the new steered tag axle is situated behind the half shaft, and is designed to match the new rear axle. Steering using the last axle helps to distribute weight better and reduces the wear and tear of the tyres.

There are a number of key benefits to customers using the new 6×2*4 LE BEV variant in their daily electric transport operations. A robust chassis design helps increase the vehicle’s durability and thus extends its service life, while the flexible adaptation to specific applications makes a huge improvement to overall efficiency. The enhanced sub-frame of the bus minimises noise levels and improves driveability, making for a more comfortable journey for passengers and driver. Finally, the positioning of the vehicle’s components make maintenance simpler, reducing costs and boosting the operational availability of the bus.

“With a completely new e-machine, this three-axle electric variant is reliable, energy-efficient and powerful, thus providing excellent uptime, range, acceleration and startability, not least on steep slopes. And with the new rear position high-speed charging option and several more power nodes to choose from, it offers flexibility that translates to buses that fit local requirements,” says Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania.

“As the momentum towards electrification keeps increasing, buses built on this platform will be competitive all around the world and can be utilised to expand electric operations to new types of applications.”
