TRIANGLE, Va., June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Marine Toys for Tots proudly continued its multi-year partnership with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) this past Sunday, sponsoring Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet at the Nashville race to bring their shared mission of hope to the National stage. Dillon’s iconic No. 3 Chevrolet carried the Toys for Tots logo—serving as a high-speed symbol of compassion, resilience, and the power of giving.

Taking the track on June 1 at 6:00 p.m., Dillon raced with purpose, representing the millions of families across America who rely on the support and generosity of Toys for Tots and the American public. He raced across the finish line, and his impact reached far beyond the checkered flag.

“This was more than just a race—it was a symbol of the resilience and potential of children across America,” said LtGen Jim Laster, USMC (Retired), President & CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “Together with Richard Childress Racing, we were honored to bring visibility to our mission and empower communities to make a lasting difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.”

More than a Christmastime charity, Toys for Tots delivers joy, emotional support, and a sense of normalcy to children in need all year long—through toys, books, and other meaningful gifts. As the Program expands its reach beyond the Christmas season, its collaboration with RCR and Austin Dillon is helping drive that mission forward with renewed energy and purpose.

“Our commitment to being a constant source of hope and support is stronger than ever—because no child living in poverty should ever be forgotten or left behind,” says LtGen Laster. “The collaboration with RCR and Austin Dillon creates new opportunities for Toys for Tots to extend its mission, ensuring that disadvantaged children receive the hope and support they deserve.”

Beyond the excitement of race day, this partnership is a powerful example of what can happen when passion meets purpose. Like a successful race, helping children thrive takes teamwork, perseverance, and a shared belief in something greater than ourselves.

With Austin Dillon behind the wheel, this collaboration continues to raise awareness and mobilize support, ensuring that the spirit of giving extends beyond the holiday season and into the everyday lives of children who need it most. Every lap at Nashville was more than a competition—it was a call to come together and build a future full of hope, promise, and opportunity.

The EU-funded project will host a special symposium and will display the work done to develop a suite of thematic digital twins to empower sustainable oceans and societal resilience.

BRUSSELS, June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The EU-funded Iliad Project, which develops Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs) to support sustainable management of Europe’s seas, will host its final event, the Iliad Symposium, as part of the OCEANS 2025 Conference from Monday, 16 June to Thursday, 19 June 2025, in Brest, France.

The Iliad Symposium is offering a unique platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and networking within the marine and oceanographic research community. Participants can expect engaging presentations, discussions, and six dedicated sessions within the main Technical Program of OCEANS 2025, where Iliad’s latest results and innovations will be showcased.

The Iliad Symposium will kick off with a dedicated joint workshop in collaboration with Blue-Cloud 2026 on 16 June 2025. This workshop will demonstrate how virtual ocean models can benefit a wide range of sectors by providing interactive, data-driven simulations of marine environments. It will offer hands-on demonstrations and collaborative sessions focused on practical applications and digital infrastructure.

The event will provide a collaborative platform to showcase tools, services, and technologies shaping the future of ocean observation and digital innovation. It will feature two main tracks: a solution-oriented demonstration track showcasing real-world use cases, and a technical services track focusing on the technological infrastructure behind interoperable digital solutions. Joint sessions will foster cross-disciplinary dialogue and shared insights.

“OCEANS 2025 with the joint workshop, technical sessions, and our shared booth with Blue-Cloud 2026, provides Iliad with an excellent opportunity to present our federated and open approach to building digital twins,” said Charalampos (Babis) Ipektsidis, member of the Iliad Coordination Team at Netcompany-Intrasoft. “We are proud to demonstrate the remarkable progress our partners have made in developing tools that bring together Earth observation data, models, and digital platforms to deliver actionable marine insights, and ensure the long-term health of our oceans.”

In addition to the joint Iliad and Blue-Cloud 2026 workshop, both projects will host a booth with demonstrations and opportunities for networking among researchers, industry, policymakers, and the public.

The Iliad General Assembly, held during the last day of OCEANS 2025 week, will mark the official conclusion of the project at the end of July and foster discussion on the future of digital ocean technologies for society.

WASHINGTON, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Consultative Council has released its 2025 Moving Forward Report. Extreme weather events, including hurricanes, wildfires, and severe storms, have caused devastating financial and human losses across the U.S., with cumulative disaster costs reaching nearly $3 trillion since 1980. In 2024 alone, 27 major disasters resulted in damage exceeding $1 billion each, underscoring the urgent need for resilience measures to protect lives, property, and local economies.

“Everyone benefits from mitigation or outright prevention of damage from a wildfire, earthquake, or storm. Insurance companies face fewer claims, government agencies avoid massive emergency aid payouts, property owners benefit from less damage, and families across the nation are safer,” said George Guszcza, President and CEO of NIBS. “To protect communities from worsening natural disasters, we must take the all-of-the-above approach recommended by this report to support the retrofitting of buildings and infrastructure to enhance resilience.”

This year’s report from the NIBS Consultative Council, “Retrofitting for Resilience,” outlines the urgent need for proactive investment in disaster mitigation strategies. The report highlights that every $1 spent on resilience can yield up to $13 in savings from avoided losses, according to the 2019 NIBS Mitigation Saves Study. The report urges policymakers, industry leaders, and communities to take immediate action to support the retrofitting of buildings and infrastructure for enhanced resilience in the face of increasingly frequent and severe natural disasters.

Key Recommendations Include:

  • Shared Costs: Encourage public-private partnerships to distribute the cost of retrofitting among all beneficiaries, including insurers, lenders, and government agencies.
  • Invest in Innovation and Technology: Invest in R&D for advanced building materials and construction methods through agencies like the Department of Energy and NIST.
  • Tax Incentives, Grants, Private Sector Incentives, and Tax-advantaged Savings Accounts: Implement federal, state, and local tax credits, deductions, and direct grants to support property owners in making resilience upgrades.
  • Certifications and Education: Expand training programs for contractors and implement public awareness campaigns to promote resilient construction practices.
  • Updated Building Codes: Advocate for adopting modern, resilience-focused building codes to reduce long-term disaster recovery costs.

The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Consultative Council’s 2025 Moving Forward Report highlights the increasing financial and human toll of extreme weather, with disasters causing over $3 trillion in losses since 1980. It calls for urgent action through public-private partnerships, investments in resilient infrastructure, tax incentives, updated building codes, and expanded education to protect communities from the worsening effects of natural disasters.
