Spearheaded by Pacifica Christian High School’s SurfersWhoServe, dozens of students will gather July 29 to advocate for continued leadership in ocean safety and environmental care following reports of elevated bacteria.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Student surfers from Pacifica Christian High School’s surf team, through their youth-led initiative SurfersWhoServe supported by The Coastal Alliance, will join with peers from schools across Los Angeles at Santa Monica City Hall on Tuesday, July 29, urging city leaders to protect and improve beach and ocean health.

Event Details:
4:30 PM – Rally & Press Conference outside Santa Monica City Hall (1685 Main St)
5:30 PM – Public Comment during City Council Meeting

More than two dozen students from Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, and the South Bay will deliver science-based comments, visuals, and calls for action. Their goal: keep beach water safe, uphold Santa Monica’s leadership in environmental protection, and collaborate with the city on future solutions.

“Our beaches are our backyard—and our classroom,” says 17-year-old team co-captain Teal Greene. “We surf these waters daily. We know when something’s wrong. We’re asking city leaders to listen to the science and keep the ocean safe for everyone.”

Their action comes after recent water tests by the LA County Department of Public Health revealed elevated bacteria levels in nine popular swim zones—despite no recent rainfall. Students hope their voices will shape the city’s upcoming environmental policy discussion at the council meeting.

“Pacifica’s surf team shows the next generation won’t wait for change—they’ll make it happen,” says surf coach and AquaSurf founder Dylan Sohngen. “Santa Monica once led on coastal protection. Now it’s time to lead again.”

Students will present tangible ideas, including youth-led water monitoring and expanded storm drain awareness, and offer to collaborate on local projects.

“Young people have a powerful voice when given tools and space to lead,” says Ashley Oelsen, Executive Director of The Coastal Alliance. “These students are not just surfers—they are scientists, advocates, and changemakers. We’re proud to support their leadership.”

Adds SurfersWhoServe founder Joe Holscher, “After the Palisades Fire, we understand what’s at stake. We want a seat at the table to protect ocean health.”

Why It Matters:

  • Public Health: Clean water safeguards surfers, swimmers, and marine life.
  • Environmental Justice: Students call for equitable investment in infrastructure across all beach communities.
  • Civic Engagement: This effort shows how teens can lead on policy and service.
  • Local Economy: Clean beaches protect tourism, recreation, and small businesses.

SAN LEANDRO, Calif., July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Inlyte Energy, a manufacturer of iron-sodium battery energy storage systems, will deploy a first-of-its-kind resilience-focused battery at Alliance Redwoods Conference Grounds in Sonoma County, CA. The project, developed with partner Vital Energy Solutions, will enhance wildfire resilience for a critical evacuation zone, reduce facility electricity costs, and provide a diesel-free alternative for long-duration backup power. The project is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity with a $4.1 million award from the Critical Facility Energy Resilience program. Third-party validation of the project’s performance will be conducted in partnership with project partners Electric Power Research Institute and Pacific Northwest National Laboratories.

“With power outages growing more severe, Inlyte’s iron-sodium batteries deliver resilient and affordable energy storage where communities need it most,” said Ben Kaun, Inlyte Chief Commercial Officer. “This project demonstrates our mission in action.”

Inlyte’s domestically manufactured, non-flammable battery solution is uniquely suited for this project, maintaining performance at high ambient temperatures. When paired with Alliance Redwoods’ planned 570 kW solar array, Inlyte’s 200 kW / 4 MWh battery system is expected to  reduce the facility’s annual electricity costs by up to $300,000. It will also provide up to two weeks of emergency backup, allowing Alliance Redwoods to phase out its reliance on diesel generators and reduce local air and noise pollution.

“Customers are demanding safe, scalable, and low-cost energy storage,” said Antonio Baclig, CEO of Inlyte Energy. “Our domestically manufactured iron-sodium battery delivers on all fronts, and we are proud to be creating a more resilient and secure energy future in the U.S.”

Located in a Tier 3 High Fire Threat Zone, Alliance Redwoods is a critical resilience site in Occidental, serving as a designated community evacuation center and, when necessary, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection staging area. The project will also provide backup power for Russian River Utility’s nearby water pump station, which is essential for public water supply and firefighting efforts.

“This project is a game-changer for our camp and our community. With Inlyte’s battery and our solar array, we can operate independently from the grid during outages at a greatly reduced cost,” said Mike Dethlefsen, Board Member at Alliance Redwoods. “Crucially, it ensures we can remain operational to serve our community and power other critical local infrastructure when the grid goes down.”

Sonoma County-based Vital Energy will manage project development, engineering, and construction, serving as the lead integrator for the microgrid and Inlyte’s iron-sodium battery. The project is scheduled to be operational in 2027.

“Our customers in high fire-risk areas such as Sonoma County need microgrid solutions that deliver both resilience and savings without compromising on fire safety,” said Akshay Pagare, Project Developer at Vital Energy. “This project will have a tremendous impact on the local community and become a flagship project for other at-risk areas.”

The Alliance Redwoods project will serve as a replicable model for communities and critical facilities seeking to improve energy resilience, ensure public safety, and reduce operational costs with domestically manufactured solutions.

GRENOBLE, France, July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Stellaria, a French start-up originating from CEA and Schneider Electric, has announced that it has raised a total of €23 million to develop its fast neutron molten salt nuclear reactor by 2035. This new round of funding comes two years after a successful first round in 2023.

The round was co-led by US impact fund At One Ventures and Supernova Invest, alongside Stellaria’s historical investors, including CEA Investissements, Schneider Electric, Exergon, and Technip Energies.

In addition to the €10 million in non-dilutive financing obtained by Stellaria through its success in the France 2030 ‘Innovative Reactors’ call for projects, this funding will be used to finance all the technical and regulatory studies necessary to establish a first molten-salt facility capable of sustaining a fission reaction, scheduled for 2029.

Founded in 2023, Stellaria is developing the Stellarium, a fourth-generation molten-salt nuclear reactor capable of fully regenerating its fuel during operation. It will therefore be self-sufficient for more than 20 years, while reducing long-lived nuclear waste (minor actinides). The first production unit is expected to be offered for commercial deployment by 2035. Competitive, safe and flexible, the Stellarium will also help to decarbonise energy production, whether for industry or the grid. By replacing fossil fuel sources with Stellarium, it will be possible to cut CO2 and particulate emissions from industrial sites by 99%.

Thanks to this funding, Stellaria aims to double its workforce to accelerate R&D around its reactor and finalise the development of one of the world’s first liquid-core fast-neutron reactor demonstrators. This step will allow it to develop its research laboratory in Grenoble by several million euros, to continue its scientific and industrial collaborations, and submit an Application for Authorisation to Create (DAC) a Basic Nuclear Installation (INB) to the safety authorities for the construction of its prototype.

Nicolas Breyton, CEO of Stellaria, said: “This funding round demonstrates the confidence of investors in the technical maturity of our molten-salt reactor, which opens up a new path towards the circular economy of the fuel cycle. We are laying the foundations for a model in which electro-intensive industries become self-sufficient in energy throughout the lifetime of their facilities. This is a key step towards the sustainable reindustrialisation of our territory.”

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…” (Hebrews 4:12)

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C., July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Christian Lingua showcases its latest initiative: free sermon overdubs for pastors and churches into Spanish and other languages. As a global leader in Christian translation and media services, Christian Lingua (CL) aims to empower churches to welcome and disciple Spanish-speaking and other audiences in both their local communities and around the world.

Breaking Language Barriers for the Gospel
Churches in North America are very multilingual. The fastest-growing and largest minority group in the US is the Spanish-speaking population, which exceeds 62 million. However, many pastors admit that they lack the resources to connect with this demographic. CL aims to remove this barrier by providing:

  • High-quality sermon overdubs
  • Quick turnaround and easy media integration
  • Faithful, Spirit-led translations that preserve the sermon’s heart
  • Free overdubs for churches with limited budgets

Sermon overdubs by Christian Lingua are already helping local churches engage Spanish-speaking believers in worship. Pastor González of the New Hope Church mentioned, “Before Christian Lingua’s overdub service, we could only reach part of our big community. Now, Spanish-speaking families are participating fully, worshipping together with English-speaking members. This has united our congregation in amazing ways never imagined before.

Equipping Churches for Greater Impact
Christian Lingua, founded over 20 years ago, partners with ministries worldwide to translate and dub Christian books, videos, and sermons. A Champion Member of the Alliance for the Unreached, they’re also recognized as one of America’s Top 30 Innovative Linguistics Companies by The Silicon Review.

Our mission has always been about accessibility. Breaking down barriers so that Christ’s message can reach everyone,” Michael Yurchuk, the founder of Christian Lingua, was quoted as saying. “Offering free Spanish sermon overdubs is a natural extension of that vision. We want to see churches grow as they embrace the fullness of their communities, crossing over language divides to welcome everyone God brings their way.

CL makes sure that every translated sermon retains the prayerful intent and spiritual impact of the original message. Thanks to this new initiative, Christian Lingua invites pastors to take advantage of free sermon overdubs, equipping their ministries for greater outreach and fulfilling the Great Commission in their communities.

For more information, visit www.christianlingua.com, their official website. Join CL in making every church a welcoming home for all.
