CHICAGO, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — One Year for Earth (1y4e), a nonprofit initiative that highlights practical methods, inspiration, and incentives to encourage sustainability, has launched a new category focused on Politics in its comprehensive Resource Hub.

1y4e’s platform helps people tackle the climate crisis head-on by offering accessible guidance on best practices, tangible solutions, basic advocacy, community involvement, workplace and school initiatives, alternative products, as well as self-care, culture, inspirational figures, and more—all designed to make sustainability a common everyday practice.

The new Politics category provides users with an overview of how state and federal systems operate, highlighting the power individuals have to influence these systems, and offers key actions anyone can take—both locally and nationally.

A standout feature of the overall initiative is the 1y4e Journey, a gamified program that guides participants in building sustainable habits one week at a time. As users engage with seasonal content and take actionable steps, they earn points that translate into real-world impact: every point earned helps fund reforestation projects through 1y4e’s partners, supporting tree planting both in the U.S. and the Global South. Participants receive a certificate of completion and can each plant up to 5 carbon sequestering trees via the 1y4e Journey.

1y4e founder Doug Fogelson developed the platform to combat climate overwhelm and offer clear, pragmatic pathways to action.

We want to give people ways to feel empowered—or even excited—and move into action,” said Fogelson. “Our team has carefully researched and vetted resources that cut through the clutter online and make sustainable living the practical, normal choice.”

Michayla George , a student at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Sustainability, praised the platform:

I was really impressed by the range of tools on the site. Its thoughtful design makes it simple to find actions that support anyone’s sustainability journey now and in the future. I love that learning how to reduce harm can also lead to planting trees—it makes the effort feel tangible.

By meeting people online and inspiring real-world action, One Year for Earth advances its broader mission: to normalize sustainability, conserve natural resources, and build long-term resilience into our culture.

CAIRNS, Australia, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Three Scottish brothers have set a new world record after completing the fastest human-powered crossing of the full Pacific Ocean, according to Story Shop.

Rowers Jamie, Ewan, and Lachlan Maclean arrived in Cairns, Australia on Saturday, August 30 at 1.52am UTC (11.52am local time), following a mammoth 139 days 5 hours and 52 minutes at sea. as they rowed 9,000 miles across the world’s largest ocean.

The Edinburgh-born trio are the first team ever recorded to row from South America to Australia.  Prior to today, the fastest time to cross the full Pacific Ocean was 159 days 16 hr 58 mins, achieved by Fedor Konyukhov (Russia), who rowed 7,393 miles (6,424 nautical miles; 11,897.9 km) from Chile, to Australia in 2014.

The trio took on the epic challenge to raise awareness and fund projects that provide clean water for life to people living in Madagascar through their Maclean Foundation, and have so far raised more than £795,000 ($1.64m AUD) as supporters from around the globe – including megastars Ewan MacGregor, Mark Wahlberg, and Flea – rallied behind the campaign.

The voyage, which began on April 12 at 8pm UTC,  threw significant challenges at the rowers, including Ewan and Jamie facing crippling seasickness for the first two weeks; a terrifying scare with Lachlan thrown overboard during a night shift only to be pulled back on the boat by his older brother Ewan; and a race against time to complete the row as extreme weather conditions stalled their progress, and caused a fast-depleting food supply to complete the row. The adventurers also had to deal with a broken water maker, faulty auto helm, and countless injuries as they spent up to 14 hours per day on the oars.

The Scots were reunited with more than 50 friends and family who made the trip from the UK – including their mum, Sheila – as well as hundreds of fans at Cairns Marlin Marina today (Saturday, August 30). They’re all set for a weekend of rest and relaxation before heading to Sydney with their boat for an event at the Maritime Museum next week.

But for middle brother Jamie, first things first. The 31-year-old adventurer said: “This won’t surprise anybody – but all I want is a pizza.

“Things got tough towards the end and we seriously thought we might run out of food. Despite how exhausted we were, we had to step up a gear and make it before supplies ran out, but now we get to eat proper food. Ocean rowing has given us newfound appreciation for things we used to take for granted – like going for a shower, lying in bed, or simply leaning on something stationary.

“It was the most incredible, relentless and often surreal experience of my life. While I might miss the routine, the solitude, the sunsets, and sunrises and so much more, right now I’m just very glad to be back on land with my friends and family who I’ve missed so much. The whole thing will take a while to sink in.”

While the mid-Pacific – from California to Hawaii – is well travelled, relatively few have attempted the full Pacific from South America to Australia. Earlier this year,  Lithuanian solo rower Aurimas Mockus had to abandon his Pacific crossing attempt due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Ewan (33), who left his job as an engineer at Dyson to take on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, added: “The days have been long and yet the weeks have flown past, it’s strange to think of the time that we’ve spent out here.

“This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and I couldn’t have even contemplated it without my brothers. There have been countless setbacks to overcome, some leaving us lost, but we’ve always lifted each other up. We’ve shed tears of joy and laughed till our cheeks hurt. And at times we’ve cried with sadness and with fear, but our spirits have been lifted, time and time again, by the support of so many rallying behind us.”

The row captured global attention, with Wahlberg – who said he wanted to play the trio in a movie – keeping especially close attention, even joining the brothers for an Instagram live to wish them luck in the others prior to arrival.

Jamie played bagpipes to Ewan McGregor from the ocean, while Sam Heughan and Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were also among those calling in to the boat to show support. The All-American Rejects invited Jamie to join the band’s performance at Comic Con in San Diego live from sea, playing the intro to their hit Swing-Swing on the bagpipes

As well as online donations, many have been inspired to take on a charity challenge of their own, from Chamberlain Care Home’s weekly physio rowing sessions to a five-year-old running a mile every day of his school holidays.

Youngest brother Lachlan, who marked his 27th birthday during the five-month voyage, was inspired to support clean water projects in Madagascar after visiting the country following university.

He said: “We’ve completed the row but the journey isn’t over. We have a charity target of £1 million ($2.06m AUD) which will provide clean water for life to 40,000 people living in Madagascar, and we won’t stop until we get there. Clean water is the most basic of needs, and it’s too often taken for granted.

“While we’re looking forward to getting back to Scotland to see our dad, and to enjoy life back at our croft in Nedd in the Highlands, we’re also very excited to get back out to Madagascar as it’s a very special place for us.”

The brothers’ boat, Rose Emily, was named after the sister they never knew, as their parents lost her during pregnancy. The boat, which the brothers built alongside ocean rowing legend Mark Slats, is believed to be the fastest and lightest ocean rowing boat ever made.

The brothers first caught the bug for ocean rowing in 2019 when they set out to row the Atlantic Ocean. Despite being relative novices to the sport, the trio broke three world records when they rowed from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua in 35 days.

The expedition was in support of The Maclean Foundation, which funds clean water projects in Madagascar and beyond. To donate and keep up with The Maclean Brothers, visit here.

With a cut-to-4½” barrel, the gun is serial-numbered 1317 and has all matching numbers, with no number visible on the cylinder. A beautiful old one-piece ivory, it has a long 1860-type grip frame, bright bore, strong rifling, good action, and a half-cock safety. Auction estimate: $2,000$3,000

A Colt 1860 Army Conversion Revolver manufactured in 1870 with the serial number 6443 has all matching numbers and features a cut-to-4¾” barrel with no front sight. Like the 1872 Open Top, it has a bright bore, great action and a good half-cock. Estimate: $1,500$2,500

The Stewart trove also includes a matching-numbers Colt 1860 Army Conversion Revolver manufactured in 1870 and serial-numbered 6443, $1,500$2,500; a .44 caliber Smith & Wesson 2nd Model American Revolver manufactured in 1872, $2,000$3,000; and a Remington .44 caliber 1875 Revolver manufactured in 1875 and serial-numbered 197, $2,000$3,000.

The second featured collection contains a very desirable Cabot Guns “American Joe” .45 ACP pistol, serial-numbered AMJOE002 and produced in 2013 in the company’s limited First Edition run. It comes with its original factory case, paperwork and box; a Chip McCormick magazine loaded with six custom .999 silver bullets shaped to commemorate the edition, and two additional magazines. Estimate: $2,500$4,500

Three outstanding Christensen Arms Ridgeline 14 bolt rifles follow. A .30-06 with a 24″ modern barrel was manufactured in 2020 and bears the serial number CB00012. Fabricated from aerospace-grade materials for lightness and precision, and in a matching-number factory box, this gun is estimated at $1,300$1,700.

The third major collection is focused on field sportsmen and hunters, with several sought-after productions by the esteemed Italian firm Caesar Guerini. An Invictus 12 gauge over/under shotgun manufactured in 2017 has a 30″ modern barrel, 2¾” chambers, figured walnut stocks, diamond-point teardrop checkering, a right-hand palm swell, and midbead sight. Additionally, it has interchangeable chokes (Skeet/Cylinder installed) and 14 7/8″ LOP with ejectors. It has been lavishly engraved with gold inlay by Master Engraver Bottega Giovanelli. This high-grade over/under shotgun for sporting clays is estimated at $3,000$4,000.

DAPHNE, Ala., Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — TERREPOWER, formerly BBB Industries, a global pure-play aftermarket leader in sustainable manufacturing, will showcase its solar brand, Ontility, at RE+25, the largest clean energy event in North America. The event will take place September 8–11, 2025, at Caesars Forum and the Venetian Convention Center & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Participation with more than 40,000 energy professionals underscores Ontility’s commitment to driving impact in the renewable energy industry and TERREPOWER’s commitment to innovation in the industrial sector.

Ontility’s presence at RE+25 is bolstered by a significant operational expansion at TERREPOWER.

Leveraging TERREPOWER’s 35-year legacy in the automotive aftermarket, Ontility applies a comprehensive, factory-level approach to remanufacturing solar components that extends well beyond simple repair or refurbishment. At the heart of Ontility’s innovative model is a proven sustainable manufacturing process that prioritizes responsible sourcing, efficient waste management, a systematic approach to energy use and resource conservation for environmental stewardship. Each solar module undergoes extensive diagnostics, cell-level analysis, and component replacement to restore it to its original factory specifications. This commitment to circular production not only extends the useful life of solar assets but also significantly reduces landfill waste and makes high-performance solar technology more accessible and affordable.

This year, Ontility’s presence at RE+25 is bolstered by a significant operational expansion at TERREPOWER. The company recently completed its state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-foot sustainable manufacturing facility in Sparta, Tennessee, now the largest of its kind in North America, with the capacity to produce 300,000 solar modules per year and the ability to scale up to more than one million solar panels annually. At full capacity, this operation is projected to divert more than 16 million pounds of material from landfills each year and return enough sustainably manufactured solar panels to the market to power as many as 20,000 homes.

“A lot of companies design and distribute solar solutions, but one thing they cannot claim is what TERREPOWER excels at: sustainable manufacturing at scale,” said Moises Aguirre, vice president and general manager of Ontility at TERREPOWER. “Only TERREPOWER has the equipment, team, facility and the investment in remanufacturing solar modules to the level that we do. While other resellers may take products, make repairs here and there, and add a one-year warranty, many distributors will not be there in a year, whereas TERREPOWER’s investment in this space proves our commitment. Our track record in remanufacturing makes us very hard to compete with because no other company does what we do at the level that we do it.”

TERREPOWER’s performance yields results for both the environment and the bottom line. In 2024, the company produced 17 million remanufactured units out of 20 million total units while avoiding more than 160,000 metric tons of CO2 through its carbon neutral business model, positioning TERREPOWER as the world’s largest sustainable manufacturer by volume. The company’s scaled sustainable manufacturing process also has advantages for customers by ensuring operational continuity, economic stability and risk mitigation in a volatile global economy. With the shift from traditional far-shoring to near-shoring and on-shoring, amplified by today’s dynamic environment of trade agreements and tariffs, sustainable manufacturing using core components and production close to customers becomes even more desirable.

“Our circular business model at scale is a testament to the clear strategic vision that underpins our growth, just as our recent rebrand underscores our commitment to creating an innovative and sustainable future,” said Mark Nugent, chief sustainability officer at TERREPOWER. “‘Terre’, the French word for ‘earth’, signifies our dedication to preserving valuable resources while ‘power’ reflects the power of our value proposition which is delivering high-quality, sustainably manufactured aftermarket parts that meet or exceed OEM standards, at a significant cost advantage. Our Ontility brand exemplifies this perfectly.”

Attendees at RE+ can visit Ontility at Booth F20615, where they can explore the brand’s innovative solutions and view a before-and-after example of a remanufactured module. Visitors can speak with experts about integrating cost-effective and reliable solutions into their projects, and learn how buying and selling high-quality new, excess, and remanufactured solar products supports a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

“We’re excited to connect with industry leaders, partners, and innovators at RE+25,” said Aguirre. “This event is a powerful platform to showcase our solar offerings and highlight how TERREPOWER is reshaping remanufacturing and the solar industry. We’re demonstrating that environmental responsibility and economic viability can go hand-in-hand to accelerate the clean energy transition.”

Attendees interested in meeting with Ontility’ s team during the show can book a meeting in advance using this link. For more information about Ontility and its offerings, visit www.ontility.com.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Launching today, the PNOC Foundation announced the Lose No Child campaign, a $50 million campaign to accelerate progress against pediatric brain cancer, the leading cause of cancer death in children and young adults. The campaign seeks to achieve in just five years what typically takes a decade—bringing safer, more effective treatments to children worldwide.

It’s been a decade of breakthroughs for the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC). The foundation helped to secure more than $25 million in funding, launching 30+ clinical trials, and enrolling over 1,000 children with rare and deadly brain cancers. These efforts contributed to two history-making FDA approvals for pediatric brain cancer treatments—an unprecedented milestone in a field where progress has historically lagged far behind other cancers.

Brain tumors present unique and complex treatment challenges. There are many different types and subtypes of pediatric brain tumors, and the tumors are in an extraordinarily complex organ. Through dedication and innovation, PNOC’s 300+ collaborative researchers across 43 institutions worldwide, aim to redefine the pace of progress in the fight against the deadliest childhood cancers.

“In our first decade, PNOC proved that collaboration can move the needle in pediatric brain cancer. We now know that by working together we can bring new treatments to children faster than anyone thought possible,” said Dr. Michael Prados, Co-Founder of PNOC and UCSF Professor Emeritus.

The Lose No Child Campaign: Funding What’s Next

Building on its momentum, the PNOC Foundation is launching the Lose No Child campaign to fuel the next wave of progress. The campaign has already raised $12 million in a silent phase and will continue through 2028. Funds will be directed to three critical priorities:

  • 50% – Clinical trial development and implementation: protocol development, strategies to integrate AI in protocol design and execution, patient recruitment, data collection, regulatory compliance, and trial execution.
  • 30% – Generating Access to Innovative Therapies: to ensure that patients have access to cutting-edge treatments as soon as they become available on a global level.
  • 20% – Development of Predictive Biomarkers and Preclinical Rationale: identifying biomarkers that predict treatment response, optimizing early-stage research, and integrating AI-driven approaches to accelerate new therapy development.

“We have seen tremendous progress in some of the tumors we treat that gives me a lot of hope for the future. Progress is accelerating—a pace that would have been unimaginable a decade ago. This year we are opening exciting trials covering new therapeutic strategies like using repeated virus injection directly into tumors, modified natural killing cells, metabolic strategies targeting tumor cells as well as a new technology that uses heat to kill tumor cells. The Lose No Child campaign ensures we can sustain that momentum for the children and families who urgently need better treatment options,” said Dr. Sabine Mueller, PNOC Co-Founder and Project Lead, and UCSF Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pediatrics.

“The science is there. What’s been missing is the funding and infrastructure to match its urgency. Lose No Child is about closing that gap so children can benefit from advances as quickly as possible. We’re calling on parents, families, philanthropists and corporate America nationwide to join us in supporting this campaign to help us reach the Lose No Child campaign goal,” said Bruce and Allyn Campbell, Co-Founders of the PNOC Foundation.

Join the Movement

Supporters are invited to learn more and join the campaign at www.losenochild.org.

About the PNOC Foundation:

The PNOC Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to supporting the advancements in childhood brain cancer research. The PNOC Foundation’s vision is to lose no child to brain cancer, and to improve the quality of life for those fighting and surviving pediatric brain cancer. The PNOC Foundation was founded to support the work of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), formed in 2012 at UCSF, to provide access to personalized treatment strategies and ultimately improve overall outcomes for children with brain cancer and tumors.

Since its inception, PNOC has pushed beyond older paradigms and historic trial designs, expanding nationally and globally to accelerate clinical trial completion and find cures faster. Through the cooperative open-source network, PNOC is fostering worldwide collaboration with the world’s leading pediatric brain tumor specialists. PNOC has grown from a 7-member group along the West Coast to a global consortium with 43 participating sites, funded largely by philanthropy.

Swedish company Baseload Capital today announced a strategic investment in Japanese geothermal energy developer Furusato Netsuden. The partnership aims to unlock Japan’s untapped geothermal potential and build a replicable model for sustainable energy development worldwide.

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Combining a global investment portfolio with a community-rooted business model, this strategic partnership aims to scale clean, renewable energy respectfully, revitalizing local economies while honoring cultural heritage.

Furusato Netsuden brings deep local roots, trust, and operational expertise to the partnership, while Baseload Capital contributes international investment, global reach and the power of committed owners such as Google and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

Japan’s untapped geothermal power

Japan has the third largest geothermal potential globally, with an estimated 23 GW, yet its current installed capacity is only 576 MW. This represents a major untapped opportunity for a country whose Green Transformation (GX) Strategy aims for net-zero emissions by 2050. Geothermal energy is clean, always-on, and space-efficient. That makes it an ideal solution for a mountainous, densely populated nation with high reliance on energy imports and growing clean-energy demand from AI and data centers.

Japan’s geothermal development has been slow, in part, because there’s no common business model that enables communities to share in the benefits. However, Furusato Netsuden and its local partners have developed a system to ensure communities benefit directly from geothermal energy.

The Waita model – a ground-breaking approach

In 2011, residents of the Waita area in Oguni Town, Kumamoto Prefecture, formed the limited liability company Waita-kai, which is owned by the community. In partnership with Furusato Netsuden, they set out to develop geothermal power together in a way that would revitalize the community. The name Furusato Netsuden combines the words for “hometown”, “heat” and “electricity”.

A respectful and collaborative business model

This model protects local land rights, ensures development is carried out on a scale appropriate for the area, and guarantees some of the revenues are re-invested in the community. Furusato Netsuden and Waita-kai regularly hold meetings with residents to share updates on operations, development, and environmental monitoring.

A growing geothermal portfolio

  • In 2015, the 2 MW capacity Waita No. 1 geothermal power plant began commercial operation.
  • Waita No. 2, currently under construction, is expected to deliver 5 MW and go online in March 2026.
  • In addition to the 7MW currently operating or under construction in Waita, the overall portfolio includes a tangible pipeline of projects across Japan that are expected to deliver an additional 30+ MW over the next five to ten years.

Alexander Helling, CEO, Baseload Capital:

“Furusato Netsuden has successfully proven that community-based geothermal development works. Through this first investment, we’re proud and humbled to partner with them in scaling this approach, combining local engagement with sustainable energy development. Together, we aim to help Japan reach its 1.5 GW geothermal goal and strengthen national energy resilience.”

Kazuyuki Akaishi, Representative Director, Furusato Netsuden:

“Since 2020, we’ve built a foundation of trust with Baseload Capital, and seen that they are a committed, long-term partner in Japan’s energy transition. Their role as a strategic investor provides financial stability for our current and future projects. They also bring valuable global resources, including technology, business insights and an international network of investors and energy partners.”

Carmichael Roberts, Breakthrough Energy Ventures:

“Geothermal is one of the largest untapped opportunities in the global clean energy transition—providing reliable, carbon-free heat and power that can strengthen energy security and serve communities worldwide,” said Carmichael Roberts, Breakthrough Energy Ventures. “Baseload Capital is demonstrating how to unlock this potential by working hand in hand with trusted local partners like Furusato Netsuden. This partnership is a model for how communities across the globe can harness geothermal power.”

The goal of this partnership is to support Japan’s 7th Strategic Energy Plan and GX (Green Transformation) while establishing a scalable, community-focused blueprint for clean energy development – creating global impact with local roots.

The company has successfully developed a complete series of high-voltage lithium battery products, covering 6C/5C/2C/1C discharge rates, to meet the demands of high-end power application scenarios such as data centers.

Narada’s high-voltage lithium battery systems are designed to cover data center backup needs from 10 minutes to 2 hours. These systems offer key advantages such as compact footprint, intelligent management, and minimal maintenance. In recent years, they have been deployed at scale in large data centers opera ted by customers including GDS in China and KT in South Korea.

The HRL series of high-power lead-acid batteries, specially designed by Narada for data centers, feature a design life of 15 years and strong high-rate discharge capability. These batteries are ideal for critical backup scenarios lasting less than 15 minutes, meeting the demands for high reliability and high-density deployment.

Real-world application cases have shown that, compared to traditional lead-acid batteries, the HRL series delivers significant improvements in overall performance and system integration efficiency: a 35% increase in power output, 30% reduction in footprint, 10% lower load-bearing requirements, 37.5% reduction in carbon emissions, and a 15% reduction in initial cost—providing users with superior economic benefits.

Narada will deepen strategic cooperation with leading data centers globally, and seize growth opportunities in emerging digital markets.
