SÖDERTÄLJE, Sweden, Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Scania’s new powertrain platform, based on the Super truck engine, comes in internal combustion and plug-in hybrid configurations for buses and coaches to meet varying needs and requirements, enabling significantly reduced fuel consumption and zero-emission zone compliance for long-distance operators.

In a time of political and technological change, when carbon emission regulations and varying local sustainability laws are creating uncertainty for bus and coach operators, Scania is responding with the launch of two new powertrains.

The new Scania Super combustion powertrain, which is already giving the company’s trucks the benefits of its award-winning fuel consumption, is Scania’s most efficient, cost-effective and long-lasting yet.

The plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) variant is an excellent alternative for customers who are aiming for exceptional cost and carbon emission reductions, outstanding operational flexibility to meet zero-emission zone requirements, and the provision of a premium customer experience in their long-distance operations.

The new powertrain platform, with the two distinct alternatives in the ICE and PHEV solutions, allows long-distance operators to find a solution that is perfectly fitted to their particular challenges and prerequisites.

Scania Super: 8% fuel and emission savings with extended lifespan

For a large portion of long-distance routes around the world, conventional buses and coaches remain the most suitable, or even the only, feasible choice. The Scania Super powertrain caters to those needs, representing the very latest in combustion technology.

There are several highlights here but one stands out: the exceptional fuel savings of up to 8 (eight!) percent compared with the equivalent current powertrain, which itself is already industry-leading. This greatly reduces the total cost of operation while also significantly cutting CO2 emissions.

These cost and carbon savings are enabled by a new 13-litre engine and a new version of the Scania Opticruise gearbox. The powertrain is also prepared for the Euro 7 emissions legislation. A brand-new aftertreatment system further reduces harmful emissions.

Scania’s commitment to sustainable people transport is matched by its commitment to helping customers get the most out of their operations. The new engine is designed with the aim of lasting for two million kilometres, a massive increase from its already durable predecessor.

Uptime is also boosted because all engine filters are positioned on the ‘cold’, non-turbo side of the engine which allows for better service access and faster filter replacements.

Transport sustainability is not only about CO2 emissions; it’s also about safer roads. Scania is committed to road safety and the new powertrain’s auxiliary brakes enable safer vehicle handling. Scania’s suite of driver safety systems can add to this vitally important aspect of people transport.

The plug-in hybrid: exceptional efficiency and up to 80 km electric range

The plug-in hybrid electric option (PHEV) is a versatile solution that is primarily designed to meet the demands of long-distance operations, enabling zero-emission zone compliance, drastically lowering fuel consumption and emissions, and increasing driver and passenger comfort.

With its integrated e-machine and six-speed powershift gearbox, the PHEV can run in four different modes: electric, hybrid, charge sustain and forced charging. The electric range is up to 80 kilometres on a single charge, while the electric power output is 290 kilowatts. Without compromising on total range, this makes it possible to enter zero-emission zones; even those of significant size. Depending on local requirements, the electric vehicle mode enables access to city centres – for current or future needs.

To facilitate the transition to and from electric mode, operators can choose to utilise Scania Zone geofencing technology to automate the process. So, if the vehicle is used in zero-emission areas, this can be pre-programmed into Scania Zone, meaning the vehicle can automatically switch to electric power from the still very efficient hybrid mode normally used in other types of traffic.

The different drive modes together add up to a powertrain that allows extremely efficient long-distance travelling – with fuel and emission savings of up to 40 percent in typical mixed coach traffic – and a flexibility and versatility that helps operators deal with the growing demands of coach operations while future-proofing their business.

Different solutions for different needs

“Our new combustion and plug-in hybrid powertrains are shining examples of Scania’s twin commitment to sustainability and profitability for bus and coach customers,” says Carl-Johan Lööf, Head of Product Management for People Transport Solutions at Scania. “With these new powertrains, we will be able to provide long-distance bus and coach operators with incredibly competitive solutions, regardless of their specific needs or which particular challenges they face, meeting both their current and future business needs.”

Setting a New Standard for Innovation and Circularity in the Global Textile Industry

DONGGUAN, China, Sept. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — China’s first fully automated textile waste sorting line has officially entered operation at Zhangjiagang Shanhesheng Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. Developed and manufactured by Databeyond Technology, the line integrates AI and hyperspectral imaging technologies to deliver automated, high-precision sorting of discarded garments. The milestone marks the entry of China’s textile recycling sector into the era of AI-driven sorting.

The AI-driven textile waste sorting line has a processing capacity of approximately 2 tons per hour and is capable of high-precision separation across multiple material types, including: high-purity polyester (over 90%), high-purity cotton (over 90%), high-purity nylon (over 90%), polyester-spandex blends, and nylon-spandex blends. More importantly, the system not only identifies garment material, color, and style, but can also determine blend ratios, enabling it to meet the specific requirements of brand owners. Compared with traditional operations, where more than 30 workers were required to sort approximately 15 tons of post-consumer textiles in a single 8-hour shift, the new line delivers the same throughput with only four workers, substantially reducing labor needs and cutting operating costs.

Ms. Feng, General Manager of Shanhesheng Environmental Technology, explained: “Through our collaboration with Databeyond, we have taken the first step toward the transformation of textile waste recycling. Looking ahead, we plan to introduce sorting lines for shredded garments and factory offcuts, enabling automated sorting from whole garments to shredded feedstock, and providing brand owners with higher-value recycled fibers and materials.”

Shortly after commissioning, Shanhesheng received a 200-ton order of high-purity post-consumer textiles from a global apparel company. In the past, fulfilling such an order would have required dozens of workers and extensive manual sorting. Now, with the advanced textile waste sorting line and only a handful of staff for support, the order can be completed with far greater efficiency.

“The launch of the Zhangjiagang project provides a scalable model of sustainable sorting for textile waste companies and signifies a milestone for China’s circular textile economy. Through ongoing innovation, we aim to accelerate the shift from manual to intelligent sorting and from fragmented to industrial operations, supporting the global textile industry’s transition toward circular growth,” Feng added.

The intelligent textile waste sorting line represents the first phase of Shanhesheng’s textile recycling transformation project. The upcoming second phase will extend to shredded garments and factory offcuts, ultimately delivering end-to-end automated sorting from whole garments to shredded feedstock. This will enable a steady supply of raw materials for both chemical and biological recycling of textiles, accelerating the industry’s progress toward closed-loop textile-to-textile recycling.

DONGYING, China, Sept. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The XGC88000, the world’s first 4,000-ton crawler crane developed by XCMG Machinery (SHE:000425), successfully installed the world’s largest 26-megawatt offshore wind turbine on August 29 in Shandong, China. Fully designed and manufactured with independent intellectual property rights, the installation marked a critical technological breakthrough for China’s offshore wind industry as it advances into deeper waters.

Currently the most powerful and largest offshore wind unit globally, the 26-megawatt wind turbine has the longest rotor diameter and highest single-unit capacity. Comprised of over 30,000 components, its hub center stands at 185 meters—equivalent to a 50-story building—with a rotor sweep area of 77,000 square meters.

The installation faced two major challenges: extreme precision and complex terrain. The engineers had to align over 200 bolts with millimeter-level accuracy at nearly 200 meters above ground, while also overcoming soft tidal flat foundations and cramped workspaces.

To tackle the hurdles, the project team innovatively reinforced the foundation with advanced piling techniques and deployed XGC88000. With an integrated solution of ground pre-leveling and aerial precision coordination, the crane safely positioned the 1,000-ton nacelle into place.

After installation, the turbine will undergo commissioning and grid integration. Once operational, a single unit is projected to generate 100 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, which is enough to power 55,000 households for a year.

Dubbed the “National Weight” by CCTV (China Central Television) and honored with the Second Prize for National Science & Technology Progress Award, the XGC88000 is a marvel of engineering. It boasts a maximum lifting capacity of 3,600 tons, a 216-meter-long boom, and a record-breaking lifting torque of 88,000 ton-meters.

Since its debut in 2013, this crane has been instrumental in over 20 major projects across China and in Belt and Road Initiative countries, including Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia and Duqm Refinery in Oman. With a cumulative total of 200,000 tons lifted, the legacy of the XGC88000 includes three world-first technologies, six internationally leading innovations, and more than 80 national patents, reflecting XCMG’s relentless pursuit of precision engineering and advanced R&D.

XCMG is committed to advancing the construction of renewable energy infrastructure, as well as to pushing the boundaries of heavy machinery innovation and paving the way for a sustainable future.

She was gifted the Northlake home by the nonprofit Building Homes for Heroes in partnership with Hillwood Communities and Highland Homes.

ARGYLE, Texas, Sept. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — On the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities unveiled a new mortgage-free house, built by Highland Homes, for an American hero, Retired Command Sgt. “Being given a mortgage-free home is an incredible gift, and I am truly grateful,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Evans. “My family and I would like to thank our friends at Building Homes for Heroes, Hillwood Communities, and Highland Homes, who are all just as committed as I am to uplifting and supporting our country’s veterans, and honoring their experiences, challenges, and victories.”

The ceremony opened with a grand procession featuring local first responders, fire trucks and police vehicles, a marching band, motorcycle groups. The parade culminated in the home gifting ceremony and remarks in front of Command Sgt. Maj. Evans’ new home, where a parachute team conducted a coordinated jump from the air to deliver the house’s key to Command Sgt. Maj. Evans and her husband.

Other notable attendees included Hillwood Chairman Ross Perot, Jr., Denton County Judge Andy Eads, and students from local Argyle Independent School District schools, who were bused in for the day’s events. Staff from the offices of U.S. Representative Brandon Gill, U.S. Senator John Cornyn and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz were also present at the day’s events.

“My father always said that service does not end when a soldier returns home. It is our responsibility to continue standing beside them. His commitment lives on through The Perot Companies and Hillwood,” said Ross Perot, Jr., Chairman of The Perot Companies and Hillwood Companies. “It is an honor to celebrate Command Sergeant Major Gretchen Evans’ service with Building Homes for Heroes, our Hillwood Communities team, and Highland Homes.”

“We are honored to celebrate our 7th home built in partnership with Building Homes for Heroes and Hillwood Communities,” said Aaron Graham, President of Highland Homes. “Each one represents more than just walls and a roof—it’s a tribute to the resilience and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans.”

About Retired Command Sergeant Major Gretchen Evans

At the height of her esteemed 30-year career in service, Command Sgt. Maj. Evans’ life changed in an instant. A mortar blast fired by insurgents rendered her unconscious. She became deaf in both ears, and sustained a traumatic brain injury, along with severely debilitating and chronic physical wounds. The attack effectively ended her esteemed military career.

But Command Sgt. Maj. Evans’ character is marked by her desire to excel beyond what is believed to be possible. As one of the most decorated women veterans in U.S. history, Evans has continued to tirelessly advocate for fellow veterans, despite the trauma she endured that ended her 30-year career. After a long journey through recovery, and with help from her service dogs, Command Sgt. Maj. Evans captivates audiences by blending wisdom, encouragement, and humor to inspire injured veterans while traveling the world to share her story of resilience. Notably, she has appeared on Bear Grylls’ “World’s Toughest Race,” leading the first mixed-ability team to compete in the global challenge. She is also the founder of Team UNBROKEN, an adaptive athletic team composed of individuals who have faced serious injuries, illnesses, or disabilities.
