Session to include live Q&A exploring key transportation issues facing California today

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin is set to headline a mainstage session at AutoMobility LA on November 20. The appearance presents a unique opportunity for media and industry leaders to engage directly with one of transportation’s most influential voices during the Los Angeles Auto Show’s official media and industry day.

“As California leads the nation in reimagining transportation, there’s no more important conversation than the one connecting state policy with the innovation coming from the automotive and mobility sectors,” said Terri Toennies, president of the Los Angeles Auto Show. “We’re honored to welcome Secretary Omishakin to AutoMobility LA and provide attendees with a direct line to the policies shaping the future of how we move.”

The midday session on the AutoMobility LA Main Stage, presented by Cox Automotive, is titled, “Direct Line: Live with California’s Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin.”

He is expected to explore how California is driving the next era of mobility through electrification, infrastructure investment, climate-forward policies, and the intersection of public and private innovation. Registered attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions and topic suggestions to be addressed live on stage, followed by an open Q&A with audience members during the session.

“California is proving what’s possible when policy, innovation, and people-centric values align,” said Toks Omishakin, Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA). “From expanding zero-emission readiness in our communities to setting the global model for safe autonomous vehicle deployment, we rely on our Core Four priorities to build a transportation system that’s cleaner, safer, more equitable and contributes to prosperity for every Californian.”

Recent initiatives under Secretary Omishakin’s leadership include the launch this year of the California New Motor Vehicle Board’s Zero Emission Vehicle Readiness Awards, honoring cities and regions leading the charge toward cleaner, climate-friendly transportation options. The program recognizes communities expanding charging access, supporting ZEV adoption, and creating equitable, innovative policies that are part of a balanced approach to reducing our carbon footprint  .

In the area of innovation, the Department of Motor Vehicles recently proposed expanding its Autonomous Vehicle regulations to include heavy-duty trucks, strengthening California’s leadership in AV innovation. The draft rules establish a phased permitting process, stricter safety and reporting standards, and enhanced enforcement powers—supporting goods movement while improving roadway safety and efficiency statewide.

Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency since 2022, Omishakin has oversight of all eight state transportation departments, boards and commissions that, combined, have more than 42,000 people and a budget that exceeds $30 billion annually. Prior to his appointment as Secretary, Omishakin spent three years serving as Director of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The appearance is a highlight among a packed schedule of panels, talks and media previews at AutoMobility LA. The media and industry preview for the Los Angeles Auto Show, AutoMobility LA is where the global mobility ecosystem converges to explore the technologies, policies, and partnerships that will define the road ahead. The main stage, curated in collaboration with leading media and industry partners, features keynotes, expert panels, and live conversations that examine the most pressing issues in the transportation landscape.

All main stage programming, including this session, will be streamed globally in real time via CarBuzz, the official live-stream partner of AutoMobility LA.

BEIJING, Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday put forward four proposals to accelerate the process of women’s all-round development. Addressing the opening ceremony of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing, Xi said the proposals were introduced to build a wider consensus, open up broader pathways and take more practical actions for this cause, as women’s all-round development is still facing complex challenges.

The Chinese president proposed joining efforts in fostering an enabling environment for women’s growth and development.

“Their all-round development is achieved under the prerequisite of peace and tranquility,” Xi said.

He emphasized the need to enhance the protection of women and girls in regions struck by war, conflict, poverty or natural disaster, and support the vital role of women in preventing conflict and rebuilding their homes.

It is crucial to improve mechanisms against violence and resolutely crack down on all forms of violence against women, Xi added.

The president proposed cultivating powerful momentum for the high-quality development of women’s cause.

Xi urged efforts to address the imbalance and inadequacy of women’s development around the world, and enable all women to share the benefits of economic globalization.

It is important to harness scientific and technological innovation to empower women’s high-quality development, and to support women in playing an even bigger role in green development.

Xi also proposed developing governance frameworks to protect women’s rights and interests.

He called for improving institutions and laws, and introducing further tangible and accessible policy measures, and channeling more quality health and educational resources to all women.

It is vital to promote an inclusive and harmonious social environment that sets women free from discrimination and bias, broaden the channels for women to participate in and deliberate on political affairs, and support their extensive engagement in state and social governance, he noted.

Xi underscored the need to nurture an environment that respects women, and to morph gender equality into a code of conduct embraced by everyone in the society.

The president also proposed writing a new chapter in promoting global cooperation on women.

He called for support for women to play a substantive role in global governance and share in its benefits.

Xi also voiced support for the central role of the UN, urging it to pay more attention to the needs of women in developing countries, and create broad cooperation platforms for women in all countries.

Xi also announced a slew of measures to support the global women’s cause at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

Over the next five years, China will donate an additional $10 million to UN Women. Meanwhile, China will earmark $100 million from the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund for cooperation with international organizations on projects to promote women’s and girls’ development, Xi said.

China will support 1,000 “small and beautiful” livelihood projects for women and girls as the priority beneficiaries, and invite 50,000 women to China for exchange and training programs, he said.

China will also establish a center dedicated to promoting global women’s capacity-building, through which it will carry out cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations to cultivate more outstanding female professionals, Xi said.

China’s answer

President Xi’s speech today was inspiring, practical and significant because China is leading the global efforts to promote gender equality across various sectors, including the economy, digital technology and culture. Many view gender equality as a single issue, but it permeates every aspect of a nation. Following this speech, greater achievements in gender equality are expected worldwide, President of the Women’s Congress of Kyrgyzstan Zamira Akbagysheva, told the Global Times.

President Xi’s speech not only demonstrated China’s concrete actions in advancing the goals of gender equality and women’s empowerment under the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, but also outlined a clear roadmap for progress. It provides a distinct “Chinese solution” for building international consensus and jointly promoting gender equality worldwide, Guo Ye, director of the Women’s Research Institute of the All-China Women’s Federation, told the Global Times.

Guo noted that today’s meeting has further strengthened the international community’s confidence in promoting women’s development and gender equality.

The 2025 gathering is aimed at reviving the spirit of the 1995 World Conference on Women, also held in the Chinese capital, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, per Xinhua. The 2025 conference injected fresh momentum into the global push for gender equality and the full development of women, Xinhua reported.

As an active supporter of global women’s causes, China has contributed $20 million to UN Women since 2015. In partnership with UNESCO, it established the Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education and supported projects in Africa that promote digital and health education for girls, Xinhua reported on Monday.

In 1995, the world gathered in Beijing. And in 2025, the world has returned once again. China has successfully organized this remarkable conference that allows us to share our experiences and learn from each other’s efforts so we can accelerate our collective progress, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, minister of delegation of the Republic of Ghana, told the Global Times.

By hosting this conference, China has given us the opportunity to approach the gender issue from a political and holistic perspective, rather than in fragmented parts, she said. “With such a comprehensive view, we can see how all the individual elements come together to form the whole. Therefore, China’s position and role promoting gender equality cannot be underestimated.”

Inspiration for others

In China, women’s life expectancy has risen to 80.9 years, and enrollment of girls in compulsory education now exceeds 99.9 percent nationwide. Women currently comprise over half of all higher education students and account for around 43 percent of the total workforce, with their influence growing across governance, science, business and sports, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

China has developed a model for advancing gender equality that is tailored to its national conditions and has proven effective. Gender equality is enshrined as a fundamental state policy, strengthening both legal protections and social awareness.

Today, the representation of women among national lawmakers, political advisors and delegates to the CPC National Congress have all hit record highs, according to Xinhua.

Maimona A.M. Khalid, Minister at the Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan in China, highlighted China’s contributions to women’s education, emphasizing that “education is the key pillar for everything. Let’s educate women – when women are educated, they learn, they grow, and they lead their societies.”

She added that China has a broad and forward-looking vision for empowering women and promoting global development. “If countries work together,” she said, “we can elevate the global role of women and advance peace, prosperity, and progress for all humankind.”

Christine Arab, UN Women Regional Director for Asia Pacific Region, told the Global Times on Monday that she was impressed by the high level of women’s participation in digital technology in China. “In East and Southern Africa, where I come from, we are still trying to close the gap, as only a little over 20 percent of women are involved in digital technology. But China has gone far beyond that, which is truly something to be proud of.”

“Here in China, we were warmly welcomed by lecturers and professors at a women’s university, which demonstrates that women in China can inspire, motivate, and mentor women from my country. This exposure helps women from my country realize they can achieve similar heights,” Nerol Vaekesa, director of Vois Blong Mere Solomon, a non-governmental organization in Solomon Islands, told the Global Times.

The FUEL research is socially relevant since more and more countries worldwide are struggling with rising obesity rates and chronic diseases, while at the same time the climate crisis demands more sustainable food production and consumption. “Company restaurants and hospital catering outlets reach millions of people every day, but they are not making the most of their opportunity to encourage healthy and sustainable choices,” explains BUas senior lecturer and researcher Michel Altan. “By changing this, we can make a significant impact on both health and sustainability. There is still a stigma that healthy food is not tasty, and as a result, the food offered by caterers is often less healthy than it could be.”

BUas will participate in this innovative research project and develop evidence-based strategies going beyond traditional information campaigns. This international educational institute combines insights from behavioural science, nutrition science and organisational psychology to design effective interventions. The research focuses on three pillars: strategic menu adjustments, smart communication, and nudging techniques that make healthy choices easier.

“What makes this project unique is that we will not only look at the caterer and behaviour in the restaurant, but also investigate whether people continue to make these healthier choices at home,” says Altan. “We will measure effects that are essential for sustainable behavioural change.”

The staff of company restaurants are central to the BUas approach because the effectiveness of healthy food choices depends on acceptance by the service staff. More and more organisations recognise that healthy and sustainable food choices are important. Previous research has already shown that the employees’ role and contribution to food production or food supply is even more important: their motivation, skills, and possibilities are decisive in encouraging guests to make healthy and sustainable food choices. The university of applied sciences will therefore develop concrete tools and training courses that support kitchen and service staff in their role as ‘change agents’ with knowledge, skills, and a supportive working environment.

The decision to announce the project on World Food Day is symbolic. This international UN day draws attention to food security and healthy nutrition worldwide every year.

TOKYO, Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — ESR, an Asia-Pacific (“APAC”) focused real asset owner and manager, and Colt Data Centre Services (“Colt DCS”), a global provider of hyperscale, AI, and large enterprise data centre solutions, have entered into a joint venture to develop the first phase of a 130 MW1 hyperscale data centre site in Minoh City, Osaka, Japan.

The first phase, comprising 65 MW1, will be designed and built by the ESR–Colt DCS joint venture and operated by Colt DCS. Strategically located in APAC’s second largest data centre market, the campus will support Japan’s accelerating public cloud adoption, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence (“AI”) solutions.

Site preparation work is already underway, with initial data centre building construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and expected to be ready for service in late 2029.

The partnership brings together Colt DCS’ proven operational excellence and over 25 years of development experience in Japan with ESR’s strong in-market development expertise and supply chain partnerships to provide high-quality data centre solutions for customers. Colt DCS opened its Osaka Keihanna data centre in 2023 and ESR’s first hyperscale asset, OS1, within its Cosmosquare Data Centre campus in Osaka, completed commissioning in 2025.

Niclas Sanfridsson, CEO of Colt DCS, said, “Colt DCS has built a strong track record of delivering world-class data centres for our hyperscale customers in Japan. The joint venture with ESR will allow us to accelerate our expansion in Japan, enabling us to support the expansion plans for our global cloud customers and the emerging AI sector.”

Stuart Gibson, Co-founder and Co-CEO, ESR, said, “Japan is a key pillar of our data centre strategy, and our joint venture with Colt DCS marks a milestone in our blueprint to deliver next-generation data centre infrastructure that underpins digital growth across the region. This site draws on our deep expertise in data centre development and reflects our commitment to driving long-term economic value and empowering digital transformation for our customers and the communities we serve.”

Diarmid Massey, CEO, Data Centres, ESR, added, “Our partnership with Colt DCS complements ESR’s ability to deliver data centres at scale in high-demand markets for capital partners and customers. Our purpose-built, high-performance Minoh data centre is being designed to support hyperscale, AI, and large enterprise-driven workloads. Beyond its technical capabilities, the site will be a vibrant hub for local innovation, engagement, and sustainable growth.”

The Minoh site spans approximately 140,000 square metres of land that ESR–Colt DCS joint venture has acquired and rezoned for this major redevelopment project, in partnership with the local government.

With a strong focus on ESG and local urban regeneration, the initial data centre forms part of the joint venture’s broader vision for a large-scale data centre site in Minoh City. The master plan for the site significantly improves and extends local road connectivity and will provide community amenities, such as an international school, local park, retail, and shared facilities. In line with ESR and Colt DCS’ green data centre development goals, the ESR-Colt DCS joint venture is aiming for LEED Gold certification.
