Next to a Red Light District, Amsterdam is now home to a No Light District.

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Royal Zoo ARTIS has officially been certified as an Urban Night Sky Place by DarkSky International. ARTIS is the first location in the heart of a European capital to receive this certification—and the first zoo in the world to earn the designation. This recognition honors ARTIS’s commitment to reducing light pollution and highlights the importance of darkness for both nature and people.

When viewed from the air at night, Amsterdam appears as a sea of lights—with one remarkably dark spot: ARTIS Zoo. Located in the center of the city, the park serves as an oasis of darkness where night truly remains night. ARTIS is responsible for the wellbeing of its animals, and a proper night’s rest is essential. Both the urban wildlife and the animals cared for by ARTIS benefit from the preservation of nocturnal darkness.

Valuable for a wide audience

Dan Oakley, representative of DarkSky International: “It’s fantastic that ARTIS has been certified as an Urban Night Sky Place. The fact that, in a zoo in the light-filled city of Amsterdam, the night sky is being protected—and its importance explained to the public—is tremendously valuable. This benefits not only residents and visitors but also the animals. Hopefully, other zoos will follow ARTIS’s example and more DarkSky locations will be created.”

The Importance of darkness

The Netherlands is among the most light-polluted countries in the world. Artificial lighting in urban areas increases by 10 percent each year, disrupting biological rhythms, disorienting animals, and affecting human health. With this certification, ARTIS serves as an ambassador for darkness, raising awareness about the impact of light pollution on nature.

Starting this winter, ARTIS will organize activities to help visitors experience the beauty of the night. During evening openings, a limited number of guests can wander through the park, experience the dark with all their senses, and rediscover the stars in ARTIS’ Planetarium.

“Darkness plays a crucial role for plants, animals, and humans,” says Savitri Groag, Sustainability Coordinator at ARTIS. “By switching off lights, we return nature’s natural bio-rhythm. This certificate proves that even in the heart of a major city, nocturnal darkness can be protected.”

WUHU, China, Oct. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Chery Group and UNICEF today announced the renewal of their global partnership in education, launching a new three-year collaboration to transform the lives of children worldwide, especially the most vulnerable, by enabling them to access quality education.

Building on its initial contribution of US$ 6 million for 2023-2025, Chery Group has pledged an additional US$ 6 million over the next three years to further support UNICEF’s education programs, both globally and with dedicated support to China, Mexico, South Africa, Türkiye, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

UNICEF estimates that hundreds of millions of children worldwide still lack access to quality education. Over 600 million are unable to attain minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics, even though two thirds of them are in school. For those out of school, foundational literacy and numeracy remain out of reach. Educational inequality continues to hinder global progress, with children affected by poverty, conflict, disasters, disabilities, or living in remote and marginalized communities most at risk of being left behind.

Since the partnership was first established in 2023, Chery Group has provided vital support to UNICEF’s global education programmes. Chery contributed to UNICEF reaching nearly 40 million children and adolescents with access to quality education, including 17 million in emergencies. Building on this significant impact and in response to the ongoing global learning crisis, both parties have pledged to extend their partnership through 2028, deepening their shared commitment to empowering the next generation.

Chery Group’s renewed commitment of US$6 million will support UNICEF’s global education programmes to provide access to quality education for the most disadvantaged and marginalised children, and to help countries strengthen their national education systems to create lasting change for children at scale.

Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Group, stated at the renewal ceremony: “Chery Group has consistently placed corporate social responsibility at the core of its development. We are not just an automobile manufacturer – we are committed contributors to global sustainable development. The achievements of our collaboration over the past two years have strengthened our belief in advancing global education with UNICEF. By renewing this vital partnership, Chery Group will continue to mobilize global resources, collaborate with partners from all sectors, and contribute efforts to promote social progress and help build a more inclusive future.”

“Chery’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and global impact is truly inspiring,” said Dr. Myo-Zin Nyunt, Deputy Regional Director of UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office. “We look forward to deepening our collaboration and creating even greater opportunities for children everywhere. On behalf of UNICEF and the millions of lives of children you’ve touched – thank you for your trust, your vision, and your unwavering support. Together, we can build a brighter, more equitable future for every child.”

With Chery Group’s support, UNICEF has made remarkable progress during the first two years of the partnership, delivering quality education to tens of millions of out-of-school children, including children with disabilities, displaced children, and those affected by emergencies. With Chery Group’s renewed commitment, this transformative work will continue in China, Mexico, South Africa, and Türkiye, and expand to Viet Nam and Indonesia. These programmes focus on fostering inclusive, healthy, and safe learning environments, ensuring that more children and adolescents gain access to equitable and quality educational opportunities.

Chery Group has consistently integrated the principles of sustainable development into its strategy and operations. The renewal of its partnership with UNICEF marks not only a significant milestone in Chery’s long-term commitment to social responsibility, but also a concrete step towards fulfilling its promise of “building a better future for the next generation”. By joining forces and leveraging education as a catalyst, Chery Group will continue to stand alongside global partners like UNICEF to advance a more equitable, resilient, and human-centered vision of sustainable development worldwide.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Pacify Health, a leading provider of a multimodal maternal health platform offering members access to in-person and virtual doula care, and 24/7 virtual lactation support, today announced a strategic collaboration with Community Care Plan (CCP). The collaboration will provide specialized, wraparound maternal health services to CCP members with the aim of addressing gaps in maternal health in the region. This collaboration will increase access to comprehensive, evidence-based, doula-led support through Pacify’s network of certified doulas and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) to pregnant and postpartum individuals across 19 Florida Counties.

Pacify Health, leading provider of doula and lactation support, announces collaboration with Community Care Plan (CCP).

Addressing Critical Maternal Health Needs in Florida

This collaboration comes at a critical time as, not unlike the rest of the country, Florida continues to face gaps in providing access to maternal health support at scale. According to the most recent data from the CDC, the U.S. maternal mortality rate was 18.6 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2023, showing an improvement from 22.3 in 2022. Florida’s ongoing efforts to address these rates make enhanced maternal care services an urgent priority as maternal mortality remains a pressing concern, with the state reporting a maternal mortality rate averaging 24.1 per 100,000 live births from 2018 – 2022 2022, and a slight increase in preterm births reported in 2023 according to the 2024 March of Dimes report. Incorporating doula support is an opportunity to address these challenges and has been shown to:

“Community Care Plan’s commitment to improving maternal health outcomes aligns perfectly with Pacify’s mission to provide accessible, evidence-based support throughout the pregnancy journey and beyond,” said Jennifer Sargent, CEO at Pacify Health. “By collaborating with Community Care Plan, we can reach more families who need these vital services, particularly in communities facing healthcare disparities and in rural areas where access to maternal care services remain limited.”

The Florida Department of Health has established initiatives like the Florida Maternal Mental Health Collaborative to address maternal mental health needs, recognizing that good mental health before, during, and after pregnancy positively impacts the health of both mother and child. The department has actively worked to strengthen knowledge related to maternal mental health and expand services throughout the state.

Evidence-Based Care for Healthier Families

Through this collaboration, eligible CCP members will gain access to Pacify’s multimodal maternal care platform, which includes:

  • Virtual prenatal support with certified doulas
  • Birth planning guidance
  • 24/7 on-demand infant feeding support with IBCLCs
  • Postpartum recovery assistance
  • Access to in-person doula support in select areas
  • Access to a library of educational resources, and messaging and scheduling tools through the app, which supports both English and Spanish speakers

Research consistently demonstrates that doula support is associated with better birth outcomes. A nationwide study involving Florida participants found that individuals receiving doula care were more likely to have improved health outcomes, including lower rates of cesarean births and higher breastfeeding initiation rates. Yet, despite these benefits, nationwide surveys estimate that only about 6% of births involve doula support.

Expanding Access to Wraparound Care

“At Community Care Plan, we are dedicated to providing best-practice wraparound care that supports healthier families across South Florida,” said Dr. Miguel Venereo, SVP and Chief Medical Officer at Community Care Plan. “Together with our Before Baby & Beyond program, the collaboration with Pacify reinforces our commitment to enhancing access to essential maternal health services and addressing the unique needs of our members during pregnancy and postpartum.”

Community Care Plan, established in 2000 and jointly owned by Broward Health (North Broward Hospital District) and Memorial Healthcare System (South Broward Hospital District), serves over 160,000 members across various health plans and managed care programs.

“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in supporting Florida’s ongoing efforts to improve maternal health outcomes,” added Dr. Miguel Venereo, SVP and Chief Medical Officer at Community Care Plan. “By increasing access to doula and lactation support services, we’re providing essential care that can help reduce maternal mortality rates and support healthier beginnings for Florida families.”

Community Care Plan is a managed care plan with a Florida Medicaid contract in Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hendry, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Sarasota, Seminole, and St. Lucie counties.

A five-year vision designed to elevate athlete opportunity, ignite community pride, and set a new standard for what’s possible at SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Chase Fisher, Founder of Blenders Eyewear, today announced a personal commitment to donate $5 million to The Campanile Foundation in support of San Diego State University (SDSU) Athletics. The donation, which marks SDSU’s largest-ever NIL commitment and formally establishes the Chase Fisher Athletics Support Fund, will directly benefit the men’s basketball program and its student-athletes, driving player development, recruitment, retention, and NIL opportunities at a national level.

“My vision is simple: to lift all SDSU athletes,” said Chase Fisher. “I want every player who puts on that jersey to feel like they’re building something bigger than themselves. I’ve been the underdog. I’ve been the one figuring it out, grinding, and chasing belief when nobody else saw it. We live in America’s Finest City, and we should have America’s finest athletics. This is where my journey began, and it’s incredibly meaningful to come full circle — to invest in the athletes, the culture, and the belief that defines SDSU.”

Drawing on his experience as an SDSU alumnus and visionary brand founder, Fisher will play a pivotal role in guiding the program’s strategy to ensure athletes succeed through NIL and mentorship opportunities. With a commitment to donate $5 million to The Campanile Foundation over the course of five years, Fisher aims to elevate the men’s basketball program by fueling player recruitment, retention efforts, and creating lasting opportunities for student-athletes. This historic commitment further cements SDSU Athletics as a dynamic hub where entrepreneurship and opportunity converge.

“With this landmark five-year commitment, Chase is not just investing in SDSU Basketball, he’s redefining its future,” said Jeff Smith, Founder and President of the MESA Foundation. “His vision goes beyond the court, empowering student-athletes to excel athletically and personally. By championing a culture of opportunity, Chase is creating a lasting foundation that will impact generations of Aztecs.”

This $5 million pledge is a personal philanthropic commitment from Fisher and is separate from Blenders Eyewear’s corporate sponsorship agreements with SDSU Athletics.

Expressing his “deepest thanks for this game-changing donation,” Men’s Basketball Head Coach Brian Dutcher said, “Competitive revenue-sharing is essential to attracting and retaining elite talent. Chase isn’t in this to play the game, he wants to change the game, and this extraordinary gift helps us establish a new standard of excellence.”

Driven by Fisher’s NIL vision, the historic donation builds on Blenders’ deep involvement with SDSU student-athletes, which included nearly $300,000 in NIL contributions in just two years, including a $100,000 donation to the MESA Foundation in March 2025. Laying the foundation for this next step, Fisher’s personal pledge extends the impact from brand to individual, strengthening opportunities for SDSU athletes and the broader community.

“Chase Fisher’s extraordinary gift is a transformative investment in SDSU Men’s Basketball and a powerful reflection of the bold, entrepreneurial spirit that defines our university,” said SDSU President Adela de la Torre. “Much like his journey as the visionary founder of Blenders Eyewear, this commitment mirrors the innovation, pride, and forward-thinking leadership that propels SDSU into the future—especially as we prepare to enter the Pac-12.”

SDSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics JD Wicker said, “This incredible $5 million commitment is a transformative moment for our Men’s Basketball program. In today’s highly competitive collegiate landscape, where recruitment and retention resources are more vital than ever, this gift provides the flexible, sustained funding we need.”

Kicking off the initiative, Fisher will attend the highly anticipated exhibition game between SDSU and UCLA when they face off at the Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena on October 17 at 7 p.m. PT. Proceeds from this historic matchup, one of the first of its kind under new NCAA rules, will benefit the SDSU Men’s Basketball Recruitment and Retention Fund.

The evening will bring together prominent Catholic and Jewish leaders including Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States and Ambassador of the Holy See; Archbishop Thomas Wenski of the Archdiocese of Miami; and Rabbi Mario Rojzman of Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus — among others.

The event, Nostra Aetate at 60: Celebrating the Legacy of Catholic-Jewish Relations in America, is made possible by event sponsors the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Jewish Community Relations Council, and community partners U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archdiocese of Miami, Fuente Latina, Mosaic Miami and The Rabbinical Association of Miami-Dade.
