Camouflage Telluride1 takes to the roads less traveled ahead of Los Angeles Auto Show global debut

  • Custom wrap reveals all-new Telluride’s Opposites United form language while hiding in plain sight
  • Developed by Kia Design Center America (KDCA), wrap is inspired by Telluride design sketches
  • Colors and intersecting lines play important role in camouflage design
  • Real world off-road trek is testament to all-new Telluride’s capabilities

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — With the global debut of the upcoming all-new 2027 Kia Telluride only weeks away, Kia America today is revealing more of the brand’s flagship SUV. Cleverly disguised in a unique full-body wrap, the custom pre-production model is seen being put through a grueling off-road trek, illustrating the SUV’s capabilities while coyly hiding its production sheet metal, which will be unveiled November 20 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new images and video of the camouflage Telluride follow the dramatic studio-based teaser images that were released October 22.

“Designing a wrap for Telluride is far different than designing the vehicle beneath the vinyl,” said Tom Kearns, Vice President and Senior Chief Designer, KDCA. “We looked at the many different patterns used by carmakers to obscure the shape of vehicles in development and decided to approach the project from a different angle. We determined that hiding the all-new Telluride in plain sight could be done in a way that is both eye-catching and thought-provoking.”

Leaning into the hundreds of sketches that precluded the final form, the wrap’s design uses intersecting outlines of the vehicle from different angles to obscure the profile, curves and angles beneath it. Close inspection reveals the many approaches the team examined before finally landing on what will be shown (uncamouflaged) at the Los Angeles Auto show in November. “This wrap also ties the beginning and end of the design process together, which is Opposites United in itself,” Kearns continued.

The Opposites United design philosophy takes inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity and was introduced by Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design, Kia Corporation in 2021. At the center of the design philosophy is a visual identity evoking positive forces and natural energy, with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes. ‘Opposites United’ is based on five key design principles: ‘Bold for Nature’, ‘Joy for Reason’, ‘Power to Progress’, ‘Technology for Life’, and ‘Tension for Serenity’.

“Stylistically, inspiration for the wrap was derived from Keith Haring and Mr. Doodle (Sam Cox). Both artists create complex patterns expressed via simple lines,” said Kearns. “We worked on reducing the Telluride’s design sketches to simple lines, overlapping sketches and silhouettes to create what ultimately became the defining motif for the wrap.”

Aside from the lines, color also played an important role in the camouflage design. “We tried many color combinations and gradations before landing on what you see today,” said Kearns. “Ultimately, warm-to-cool color shifts starting with orange at the front and ending with purple at the rear.” Orange worked well with the amber DRLs up front and its opposing color – purple – was used to contrast at the rear.

Subtle map coordinates along the lower edges of the front doors are an Easter egg. 37.9375° N, 107.8123° W place the camouflage Telluride in the SUV’s namesake Colorado town.

The high-action video, shot on location in the rugged Alabama Hills in the high desert of central California, presented a stunning backdrop for the boldly wrapped 2027 Kia Telluride. With the jagged peaks of the Sierra Nevada looming in the distance, the Alabama Hills are a formation of rounded rocks and eroded hills shaped by geologic uplifting that took place 100 million years ago.

“Pictures of camouflaged development vehicles are commonplace, especially for automotive enthusiasts. And they typically depict the vehicle parked or driving on the highway,” said Russell Wager, Vice President, Marketing, Kia America. “But we wanted to do something special with this pre-production Telluride. Placing it in an environment that really pushed the boundaries gave us the opportunity to show just how capable the all-new Telluride is.”

The camouflage Telluride was put through its paces in the action-packed video montage tackling formidable obstacles as it journeys down the road less traveled. Steep inclines, sandy washes, water crossings, and rocky outcroppings present an extreme overlanding adventure highlighting Telluride’s off-road capabilities.

SHENZHEN, China, Oct. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Tencent (0700.HK) today announced the top 50 finalists, coming from 12 countries and regions around the world, for its CarbonX Program 2.0 (CarbonX 2.0), a landmark initiative to accelerate next generation climate technologies and the essential capabilities needed for a net-zero world by 2050.

These innovators, selected from more than 660 applicants across 54 countries and regions, are competing for a share of RMB200 million (approximately US$28 million) in catalytic funding. Winners will also receive technical resources, expert mentorship, and opportunities to pilot their solutions in real-world environments, including in climate vulnerable regions such as Kenya, the Maldives, and Serbia.

Bridging the “Valley of Death” in Climate Innovation

The path from breakthrough discovery to real-world impact is often blocked by what experts call the ‘Valley of Death’ the critical gap between early-stage innovation and large-scale deployment. Many climate technologies fail to progress due to limited funding, partnerships, and testing environments.

The CarbonX Program was created to close this gap. It does this by building a global ecosystem where scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders work together to accelerate the scaling of climate solutions, offering comprehensive support beyond mere financing.

“The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time and tackling it demands both bold innovation and collective action across the global ecosystem,” said Davis Lin, Senior Vice President of Tencent. “With CarbonX, we are not only investing in groundbreaking ideas, but also creating the pathways to turn them into real-world solutions. By bridging the gap between research and deployment, we aim to accelerate technologies that can store, transform, and reduce CO₂ emissions at scale, laying the foundation for a truly low-carbon future.”

Scaling Climate Innovation Across Borders

Building on the success of its inaugural program focused on China, CarbonX 2.0 has expanded globally to identify and support promising early-stage climate technologies. The 50 finalists represent a diverse mix of universities, research institutes, and startups working at the forefront of four key areas:

  1. Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR): Supporting pilots in Kenya to accelerate scalable, cost-effective solutions for permanently removing historic CO₂ emissions, with the potential to reduce direct air capture (DAC) costs substantially.
  2. Industrial Decarbonization (CCUS for Steel): Advancing breakthrough approaches to reduce lifecycle emissions in steel production with pilots in Serbia. The focus is on developing cost-effective and scalable industrial carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) solutions for hard-to-abate industries.
  3. Carbon Capture and Utilization
(CarbonXmade): Transforming captured carbon into chemicals, and ultimately into consumer products. This creates a circular value chain that turns waste into consumer goods, with early market adoption supported by brand premiums in China.
  4. Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES): Providing real-world scenarios in the Maldives to refine and validate emerging technologies, to meet the growing demands of renewable energy expansion – with flow batteries showing strong promise for commercially viable, long-duration storage.

PASADENA, Calif., Oct. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Hundreds of people filled Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium on Monday evening for the West Coast premiere of “Bright Harvest: Powering Earth From Space,” a new documentary chronicling a scientific dream that has leapt closer to reality: beaming solar energy from orbit to power Earth.

The film — produced by philanthropist and Caltech trustee Brigitte Bren and written, directed, and produced by Steven Reich — tells the story of three Caltech professors whose decade-long collaboration led to the world’s first successful demonstration of wireless power transmission from space to Earth in 2023.

At the heart of “Bright Harvest” is the journey of professors Harry Atwater, Ali Hajimiri, and Sergio Pellegrino, whose combined expertise in materials science, electrical engineering, and aerospace structures made possible the creation of ultra-lightweight systems capable of collecting and transmitting energy from space.

The research was made possible by a donation of more than $100 million by Mrs. Bren and her husband, Donald Bren, Chairman of Irvine Company and a lifetime member of the Caltech Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Bren told the audience that the documentary was initially intended for Caltech’s archives but soon evolved into a project with a larger mission. “When this took place, it was a major breakthrough,” she said. “Space enthusiasts knew about it, but most people didn’t. That’s when I decided we needed to do this documentary — to make people aware of this achievement.”

Following the screening, Mrs. Bren and Reich joined the three scientists on stage for a discussion about their collaboration and the future of space-based solar energy. “It’s interesting because there’s three different teams — that’s how it starts,” Pellegrino said of their multidisciplinary approach.

Atwater said the next step will require moving beyond research to commercialization. “What happens next, it has to be commercial,” he said. “It can’t be done just at Caltech.”

Mrs. Bren emphasized the importance of U.S. leadership in this emerging field. “Many countries are working on space-based solar energy research,” she said. “And then there are three professors and their students at Caltech. That’s extraordinary. I really would like to see the United States become the leader in space-based solar energy. That is the mission.”

Former California Governor Gray Davis, who attended the screening, praised the project’s potential. “This is how things start,” he said. “The power of relying on the sun for energy is so compelling. This is something that’s going to happen. And the film will hasten the process.”

As the evening concluded, Mrs. Bren reflected on the moment’s significance. “You’re taking part in the birth of a new energy — and this is really just the start.”

A Panel Lacking Any Hindu Presence Sought to Define Hinduism After Shutting out Hindu Voices

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Oct. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) strongly condemns Monday’s event, “Hindutva in America: A Threat to Equality and Religious Pluralism, at Rutgers University that has drawn bipartisan criticism from Members of Congress and widespread outrage from the Hindu community, both on and off campus

The event, framed as an academic inquiry, featured a panel that did not include a single practicing Hindu but, nevertheless, made sweeping, uninformed claims about the faith. Notably, the non-Hindu panelists labored to make an artificial and, frankly, preposterous distinction between Hinduism and Hindutva; and when practicing Hindus asked questions, they were shut down.

The talk itself was peppered with false claims, primary among them being the denial of Hinduphobia itself. There was no mention of the seven Hindu temples that have been vandalized across the U.S. since December 2023 or of the hate crime data from states like California that show a rise in anti-Hindu hate, second only to antisemitism.

The panelists also stated, incorrectly, that the Nazi Hakenkreuz is the same as the Hindu Swastika—even though there is a growing body of evidence that Hitler called his symbol the Hakenkreuz, not Swastika. There were also broad accusations that Hindu organizations in the U.S. receive undisclosed payments from the BJP-led Indian government, thus implying they are “agents of India.”

Despite concerns about backlash and potential retribution, a group of brave Hindu students held a silent rally outside the event venue. Even though it was an officially permitted protest, they faced hostility from a supporter of the privileged panelists. “It was scary to see an adult trying to dox us,” said one Hindu student on the condition of anonymity. “So many of my peers wanted to join the rally. But they were too scared to come because Rutgers ignored the letters we sent asking for fairness and safety.”

It is not easy for students, especially from immigrant heavy minority communities, to oppose professors with institutional power and influence over their campus lives. “We were not asking Rutgers to cancel the event—only to make clear that its institutional brand does not endorse the anti-Hindu rhetoric that has already sowed fear among Hindu students and vitiated the atmosphere on-campus,” added Rutgers Hindu chaplain Hitesh Trivedi.

In the weeks leading up to the event, CoHNA led a broad campaign to raise awareness about this Hinduphobic event—enabling 10,000 emails from students, parents, and community members to the Rutgers administration, urging the university to disassociate itself from the event; 4,000 emails to state and federal lawmakers; and over 120 calls from CoHNA policy fellows to New Jersey officials.

On October 24, four members of the U.S. Congress—Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA), Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA), and Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI)—sent a joint letter to the Rutgers University administration, expressing concern over both the event and the report on which it is based. The lawmakers warned that the material “misrepresents a diverse and peaceful religious community” and could “fuel further prejudice, particularly impacting Hindu students on college campuses who may feel unfairly targeted or unsafe.”

Several CoHNA members attended the event including co-founder and board member Suresh Krishnamoorthy, to see if the panelists were actually open to anything resembling the true spirit of academic debate. Unfortunately, they were not. “When others spread falsehoods about our organization, seek to malign our beliefs, call us fascists, and dismiss Hindu voices in conversations about our own religious identity, we cannot let that slide. CoHNA will always be there to stand up for our community, especially Hindu youth” said Krishnamoorthy. “We will not let Hindu hate go unchallenged.”

CoHNA reaffirms its commitment to free speech and open dialogue but emphasizes that academic freedom, in particular, comes with academic responsibility to protect viewpoint diversity and student safety. We call on universities nationwide to ensure that their campuses remain safe for students of every background—including Hindus, who continue to face rising hate incidents both online and offline.
