BOSTON, Dec. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Broco Energy, a leading New England energy provider and recognized clean-energy partner, is proud to announce that its renewable diesel pilot with the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) has officially progressed into a fully executed long-term contract. The contract begins December 1st and marks a major milestone as New England’s first renewable diesel supply agreement.

Following a competitive bid process, Broco secured the contract over several larger industry suppliers, reinforcing its position as a reliable, innovative energy partner for critical infrastructure across the Commonwealth.

Under the agreement, Broco Energy will supply renewable diesel to power a wide range of Massport’s essential operations, including:

  • Logan Airport shuttle buses (Logan Express)
  • Maintenance vehicles and grounds equipment
  • Luggage carriers, generators, and support systems
  • Fire trucks and emergency response units
  • All internal Massport diesel-powered equipment

The one-year contract represents an estimated 1.2 million gallons of renewable diesel supplied to Massport’s operations.

Renewable diesel significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional petroleum diesel and supports clean-heat standards emerging across the Northeast.

“We’re honored to move from our pilot program into a full contract with Massport,” said Robert Brown, President of Broco Energy. “Our team has worked closely with Massport since early 2024 to prepare for this transition, investing in infrastructure upgrades, injection blending capabilities, and expanded fixed storage. This contract is a major achievement and a testament to the work we’ve put into advancing clean-energy adoption across New England.”

The agreement represents a meaningful competitive victory for Broco, demonstrating its unique ability to manage both delivery (downstream) and distribution (midstream) of renewable fuels. Broco’s model leverages specialized rail shipments of American-made renewable diesel, strengthening regional supply security and positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable fuel distribution in the Northeast.

This partnership further expands Broco’s visibility in the Boston market and aligns with major clean-energy initiatives taking shape across the region.

Study reveals that next-generation geothermal energy could meet up to 90% of Indonesia’s industrial heat demand and play a pivotal role in achieving national renewable energy goals

BOSTON, Dec. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Project InnerSpace today announced the release of The Future of Geothermal in Indonesia, a comprehensive report detailing how, with vast conventional resources and deep domestic expertise, Indonesia can expand geothermal to next-generation systems, industrial heat, and district cooling. Doing so will deliver reliable power, competitive energy for industry and data centers, healthier air for communities, and a world-class domestic supply chain and workforce.

Geothermal energy, the heat naturally occurring in the Earth’s crust, is an abundant and ubiquitous source of energy. Advances in drilling and subsurface technologies are making geothermal affordable and scalable in regions once thought impractical. In Indonesia, that progress is especially important. Stretching across thousands of islands along the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia possesses one of the world’s richest geothermal resource bases. The report estimates that Indonesia holds 2,160 gigawatts of geothermal technical potential, much higher than current estimates of hydrothermal resources. Fully realizing this potential would allow geothermal energy to meet up to 90% of Indonesia’s process-heat demand in key manufacturing sectors and significantly reduce the nation’s reliance on coal and imported fuels, leading to over 650,000 jobs.

“Indonesia is already a world leader in hydrothermal geothermal. The country’s long oil and gas and geothermal heritage now gives the country the technical skill, drilling capacity, and operational expertise to lead the next phase of the sector: geothermal cooling, industrial heat, and next-generation power,” said Jackson Grimes, Director of Global Engagement at Project InnerSpace. “Our analysis shows that by modernizing geothermal regulations and expanding the national focus beyond electricity, Indonesia can unlock thousands of megawatts of firm, low-emissions energy, strengthen industrial competitiveness, and create hundreds of thousands of skilled jobs, while improving energy security and strengthening social acceptance through clearer benefits for communities.”

“Next-generation geothermal systems differ in that they do not rely on naturally occurring underground reservoirs and therefore can be developed anywhere with adequate subsurface heat. This addresses one of the key challenges of conventional geothermal, which is that resources are often located in protected areas or close to residential zones, creating land-use conflicts and limiting socio-economic benefits. With next-generation technologies, geothermal energy can instead be deployed where heat or power demand actually exists—including directly within communities,” said Fabby Tumiwa, Chief Executive Officer of IESR. “By leveraging our oil, gas, and geothermal expertise, we can translate this potential into real projects and accelerate cost reductions in the use of geothermal energy.”

Advances in drilling and well-construction technologies now enable next-generation geothermal systems to access heat beyond traditional hydrothermal reservoirs, providing reliable electricity, direct-use heat for industry, and district cooling. Broadening Indonesia’s geothermal framework to include these applications would accelerate renewable deployment, reduce reliance on coal-fired generation, and strengthen the nation’s long-term energy resilience.

Key recommendations in The Future of Geothermal in Indonesia include:

  • Updating geothermal definitions and licensing frameworks to explicitly include next-generation systems, direct-use heat, and district cooling.
  • Setting national targets for geothermal electricity and industrial heat and a pathway to get there.
  • Establishing a “geothermal fast lane” to streamline permitting and inter-ministerial coordination.
  • Reforming geothermal production bonuses to ensure communities see real benefits.
  • Expanding workforce training and technical certification programs to leverage Indonesia’s strong oil and gas expertise for geothermal development.

To build on one of the report’s key findings, Indonesia’s significant potential for geothermal cooling, Project InnerSpace will fund a feasibility study at Gadjah Mada University to evaluate a campus geothermal cooling project. If the study is successful, Project InnerSpace intends to advance the project through its GeoFund program.

OTTAWA, ON and WASHINGTON, Dec. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The International Joint Commission (IJC) is pleased to announce that a critical step in the two-year Reference on Transboundary Water Pollution in the Elk-Kootenai/y Watershed has been completed by submitting the International Elk-Kootenai/y Watershed Study Board Interim Status Report to the Governments of Canada and the United States.

This report updates governments, along with the Ktunaxa Nation as co-signatory of the associated Proposal, of the work completed in developing a common understanding of water pollution within the Elk-Kootenai/y watershed, and its impacts on people and species.

“The timely delivery of the Interim Status Report represents another milestone in the IJC’s management and administration of this historic reference in United States-Canada transboundary water relations,” says Merrell-Ann Phare, lead IJC Commissioner appointed by Canada.

On March 8, 2024, the Governments of Canada and the United States provided a Reference that incorporates a proposal developed in partnership with the Ktunaxa Nation to the IJC, under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909, requesting the IJC undertake certain actions regarding the impact of transboundary water pollution in the Elk-Kootenai/y watershed. One of the actions was to establish a study board comprised of experts and knowledge holders that would conduct and synthesize transparent and coordinated transboundary knowledge sharing.

“We commend the Study Board, along with their technical working groups and partners, for the engagement, thoughtful approach and expertise culminating in this Interim Status Report,” said Gerald Acker, lead IJC Commissioner, appointed by the U.S.

The next major milestone will be the public comment period planned for summer 2026 on the Study Board’s draft final report, which will include recommendations on the matters set out in the Reference.

 Quick Facts

  • The Elk-Kootenai/y Reference, the Proposal, and the establishment of the Study Board are the result of many conversations and cooperative initiatives involving U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, provincial, state and Indigenous governments, and stakeholders regarding the impacts of pollution in the watershed.
  • This is a historic moment for Canada-United States transboundary relations as it represents the first time that Indigenous Peoples have played a key role in the development of a reference to the IJC under the Boundary Waters Treaty of 1909.
  • The Elk and Kootenai/y rivers rise in the Canadian Rockies of the province of British Columbia and flow into Koocanusa Reservoir, an impoundment of the Kootenai/y River that spans the Canadian-U.S. border. Below the reservoir, the Kootenai/y River continues to flow through transboundary Ktunaxa lands, through the states of Montana and Idaho, and back to the province of British Columbia, where it empties into the Columbia River.

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Watch Duty announced its expansion from 22 states to nationwide coverage, ensuring that every community now has access to verified, real-time wildfire information when it matters most.

Founded just four years ago serving only a few California counties, Watch Duty has rapidly grown into one of the most trusted voices in public safety. The nonprofit organization is best known for its actionable wildfire alerts, but also provides air quality index, wind direction, and red-flag warnings delivered directly through the Watch Duty app.

While Watch Dutys core services remain free, ad-free, and accessible to everyone, the organization also offers a suite of advanced tools that offer deeper intelligence. These include enhanced mapping, weather insights, aircraft tracking, utility overlays, satellite detections, and other professional-grade features that are all trusted by frontline responders and delivered at a fraction of the cost of traditional commercial platforms.

Were transforming how disaster information is shared by putting people, not profit, at the center,” said John Clarke Mills, Co-Founder and CEO of Watch Duty. This nationwide expansion ensures no one faces disaster in the dark, like I was in 2021 when I founded Watch Duty. By bringing first responders and technologists together, were solving long-standing problems in public safety and were doing it better, faster, and together.”

Wildfire is no longer a seasonal or local hazard. Nearly one in three Americans now lives in an area with significant wildfire risk, and drifting smoke from distant fires threatens millions more. Research reported by The Washington Post estimates that wildfire smoke contributes to more than 40,000 premature deaths in the U.S. each year, making it one of the nations deadliest environmental threats.

Despite modern detection and suppression tools, life-saving data often reaches the public too slowly or inconsistently to act on. Critical signals exist in fragmented systems that were never designed for public communication.

Watch Duty closes that gap. Its platform takes in, verifies, and translates this information in real time into plain-language, map-based updates people can act on immediately. During the 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles County, Watch Duty became the only lifeline, used by more than eight million people in a single week and displayed in the citys Emergency Operations Center as a primary live intelligence feed.

With nationwide expansion, Watch Duty is building a safer America where trusted reporting moves as fast as the emergencies themselves, and every person has the information needed to protect what matters most.
