345 tons of hotel amenities recycled by Sands China and community partners since 2014

MACAO, Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Sands China mobilised 330 team members together with volunteers from the University of Saint Joseph, sustainability nonprofit Sustaincia, Oxfam in Macau, and the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao to assemble 30,000 hygiene kits for international social enterprise Clean the World Thursday at The Venetian® Macao’s Cotai Expo. It marks the 12th consecutive year that Sands China has partnered with local social service organisations to support the Clean the World initiative.

A total of 26,000 emergency response hygiene kits will be delivered to the Philippines, while 4,000 will be distributed to 11 Macao NGOs and three charitable and educational institutions in Hong Kong. The kits provide essential hygiene supplies to families in need and promote the concept of resource recycling to younger generations.

After hotel guests check out, Sands China collects used soap for Clean the World to recycle. Through a remanufacturing process, soap is sanitised and repurposed, extending the life of hotel supplies that would otherwise be discarded as unnecessary waste. Besides soap, each kit contains shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a card with an encouraging message from Sands China and Clean the World in a reusable non-woven bag.

“Sands China is proud to have been the first integrated operator in Macao to partner with Clean the World to produce hygiene kits,” said Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd. “Since 2014, we have continuously responded to our parent company’s call to action, participating in this meaningful initiative for 12 consecutive years. By leveraging our resources, we give back to Macao while extending a helping hand internationally. To date, we have worked with our community partners to prepare more than 415,000 kits to support vulnerable groups in Macao and neighbouring regions, helping prevent the spread of disease and promoting environmental protection through recycling. Sands China is grateful to Clean the World for their collaboration over the years, and sincerely thanks our team members and community partners for their dedication and selfless contributions in advancing global health and environmental sustainability.”

Shawn Seipler, founder and chief executive officer of Clean the World, said: “It’s truly inspiring to witness Sands China and the Macao community come together once again to support families in need. By assembling 30,000 hygiene kits, we’re not just providing essential supplies, we’re delivering hope, dignity, and the power of collective action. Every kit is a testament to the compassion and generosity of volunteers, partners, and Sands China. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands across Macao and beyond.”

Sands China’s support of Clean the World is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and the Sands ECO360 global sustainability strategy.

What’s on the menu? Kids are hungry for classic favorites, international flavors, and a whole lot of fun!

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — From surprising combinations to craveable comfort foods, kids are shaping the future of school dining with adventurous appetites and purposeful choices. Today’s students are fueling up with meals that balance fun, flavor, and function, and they’re bringing creativity and curiosity to every bite.

Leveraging the latest generational insights from Chartwells and their market research and analytics partner E15, Gen Alpha and Gen Z are redefining what school meals should deliver: bold flavors, balanced nutrition, and a connection to the world around them. This year’s food trends for kids reflect exactly that, showcasing the foods, formats, and experiences students love most.

“We’re seeing incredible excitement from students about food,” said Chef Peter Gilhooly, Senior Vice President – Culinary, Chartwells K12. “From global influences to interactive, on-the-go options, kids are embracing food as an experience that connects their taste buds to their values.”

Chartwells K12’s top 10 food trends for kids in 2026 are:

  1. Pizza Party – It’s official: 98% of students list pizza as their favorite food, but not any old slice. From whole-grain crusts to veggie-loaded toppings, today’s pizza gets a nutritious twist. Whether it’s classic pepperoni, Nashville Hot Chicken, or a Nut-Free Pesto Spinach Flatbread, pizza remains the ultimate unifier for Gen Alpha’s love of comfort and customization.
  2. Brunch All Day – Eggs are more than breakfast; they’re a Gen Alpha staple. Students are craving breakfast-for-lunch options, making brunch-inspired menus a major trend. Think Bacon and Cheddar Egg Bites, Chorizo Egg Bowl, and Dragon Fruit Banana Bowl, all featured in Chartwells’ ‘Bloom into Breakfast’ promotional campaign launching in school cafeterias this spring.
  3. Turn Up the (Sweet) Heat – Sweet meets spicy in a flavor combo kids can’t resist. From Chicken and Waffles with Spicy Peach Compote and a Honey BBQ Sriracha Chicken Grain Bowl to Chili Lime Watermelon Salad, this trend reflects the growing “flavor curiosity” noted in generational research, a balance of boldness and fun that helps students explore flavor profiles at their own pace.
  4. That’s a Wrap – Portable is powerful! With 68% of kids saying they want food they can take on the go, wraps, tacos, and handhelds are ruling lunch lines. Chartwells highlights how variety and mobility meet, serving options like a Ham, Egg & Cheese Burrito, Jamaican Beef Hand Pies, and a Santa Fe Turkey & Cheddar Wrap.
  5. Sip, Sip, Hooray – Influenced by café culture and Gen Z’s beverage obsession, students are sipping on Watermelon Aqua Fresca and Dragon Fruit Boba Tea. With Starbucks named a top Gen Alpha destination, our cafeterias are embracing kid-friendly versions that blend flavor, hydration, nutrition, and flair.
  6. Chicken Reimagined – Still a top food for kids, chicken is getting a playful reboot with the relaunch of Chickendipity, Chartwells’ culinary concept featuring fun twists for nuggets, tenders, and more with flavorful dipping sauces like Honey Lime Buffalo Sauce, Southwest Cilantro Ranch, and Korean BBQ. This trend taps into the popularity of dipping and dunking, making mealtime interactive and fun for all ages.
  7. Passport to Flavor – Gen Alpha’s curiosity about other cultures shines through their food choices. With new countries and regional flavors joining the Global Eats program lineup later this year, students can explore world cuisines in approachable ways, from Korean Style Bulgogi Chicken Tacos to Mexican Pork Pozole, connecting their love of flavor to cultural exploration.
  8. Eyes on the Fries – Potatoes, the No. 1-ranked side dish among both generations, are back in every form: mashed, roasted, and crinkle-cut. They’re also getting creative upgrades like Potato Poppers and a Crispy Popcorn Chicken and Mashed Potato Bowl, tying in sauces and toppings that bring comfort with a twist.
  9. Power Up Your Performance – Students are seeking protein-packed and macro-friendly foods that fuel their performance. Gen Z and Gen Alpha prioritize health and energy, and Chartwells’ Power Up program is expanding with menu items like a Chipotle Chicken Rice Bowl and Banana Chocolate Chip Overnight Oats, packed with protein, whole grains, and produce that support active days and focused minds.
  10. Plant-Forward and Planet-Friendly – Sustainability is no longer a bonus; it’s an expectation. With 60-70% of Gen Alpha students eating plant-based meals each week, Chartwells continues to lead with plant-forward entrees like a comfort food classic Sweet Potato and Black Bean Vegetarian Chili, or Butternut Squash Enchiladas. Using locally sourced produce and hosting programs like Chartwells Farmers Markets bring food origin stories to life for kids.

Local experts explain how rapid freeze/thaw swings can stress turf and why winter protection steps matter now.

DALLAS, Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Winter in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is known for erratic temperature swings that place significant stress on local lawns. This year, homeowners have already seen afternoons in the 60s followed by overnight drops into the 20s. These sudden shifts cause turf to briefly “wake up” before being hit by freezing temperatures again, resulting in widespread winter injury.

Understanding Seasonal Turf Stress

Warm periods can trigger turf respiration and slight “green-up.” However, when temperatures plunge, the rapid freeze can damage plant cells and roots. Additionally, the region experiences extended winter dry spells, which increase dehydration and compound stress. Last winter, DFW recorded more than a dozen freeze/thaw cycles, highlighting the urgency of proper winter care.

The Role of Growth Inhibitors

Dr. Green Services applies winter growth inhibitors to help stabilize turf during these unpredictable temperature swings. These treatments keep grass in a consistent dormant state, preventing repeated transitions in and out of growth. This proactive approach reduces shock, conserves plant resources, and prevents turf decline that often becomes visible in early spring. This technique underscores Dr. Green Services’ commitment to preventing damage before it occurs.

Challenges for Texas Turf Types

Bermuda, St. Augustine, and Zoysia grass varieties are especially vulnerable to freeze/thaw swings and drought conditions. Because these warm-season grasses are not adapted to rapid winter temperature fluctuations, they require additional protection during January and February.

Expert Insights

“Our unpredictable climate makes dormancy protection essential,” said James Tatum, Director of Operations at Dr. Green Services. “Growth inhibitors give turf the stability it needs to survive winter stress and come back stronger in spring.” With decades of local expertise, Dr. Green Services continues to help DFW homeowners protect their lawns from extreme weather patterns.

Recommended Actions for Homeowners

Homeowners can help reduce winter stress by lightly watering during extended warm spells, avoiding heavy foot traffic on frozen turf, and scheduling winter monitoring. Following Dr. Green Services’ guidance can further reduce weather-related turf damage.

Dr. Green Services’ Comprehensive Care

Beyond growth inhibitor applications, Dr. Green Services provides winter turf monitoring and region-specific programs designed around DFW’s climate challenges.

Preventing Spring Damage

By taking preventive steps now, homeowners can avoid costly spring recovery and ensure healthier grass when temperatures rise. Dr. Green Services remains committed to protecting local lawns through expert guidance and proactive winter treatments.

Nation’s Leading Flexible Packaging Company for Produce Leads Sustainability Charge by Replacing Virgin Plastic with Post-Consumer Recycled Material (PCR)

UNION CITY, Calif., Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Emerald Packaging, the largest supplier of retail flexible packaging for the produce industry, today announced a significant sustainability milestone. Over the past year, the company has replaced over one million pounds of virgin polyethylene (PE) with post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, marking a step forward towards establishing a circular economy and sustainability for flexible plastic packaging.

Emerald Packaging’s shift toward PCR directly supports the sustainability goals of many of its food industry partners. Most recently, Emerald Packaging partnered with Idaho Package, Wada Farms and Walmart to introduce the first 30 percent food contact PCR bag for the potato category. This project pushed the limits of PCR, given the exacting standards potato bags must meet, like impact resistance. This initiative aligns with Walmart’s Project Gigaton, targeting a one billion metric ton emission reduction by 2030. To date, Walmart has eliminated more than 200,000 pounds of virgin plastic in its potato packaging.

D’Arrigo Bros. of California, the country’s largest romaine shipper, was the first to partner with Emerald. The companies rolled out PCR bags across D’Arrigo’s entire product line, including romaine lettuce hearts and iceberg lettuce. The bags are 30 percent food contact PCR, and have eliminated over 600,000 pounds of virgin plastic from the supply chain.

“This milestone reflects Emerald Packaging’s deep commitment to the environment and our technical ability to deliver high-quality packaging while reducing the reliance on virgin plastics,” said Kevin Kelly, CEO of Emerald Packaging. “We’ve worked closely with our supply chain partners and customers to make PCR a viable and scalable part of our product offerings for those who are seeking sustainable options that meet performance standards without compromising environmental values.”

Integrating PCR materials not only diverts plastic waste from landfills but also significantly reduces the carbon emissions associated with the production of virgin plastic. According to a 2004 study by University of California scientists, increasing the use of PCR has the most significant impact on waste plastic tonnage and GHG reduction compared to any other possible environmental action.

With over six decades at the forefront of produce packaging innovation, Emerald Packaging is the largest plastic packaging manufacturer for produce in the U.S. For more than 20 years, Emerald Packaging has led industry efforts to address plastic waste, most recently helping shape legislation in California that addresses the need for a better recycling infrastructure. Emerald is one of the few manufacturers to win a Green Business certification for its waste, water, and energy reduction efforts.

Partnership will expand manufacturing platform to convert wood fiber into biocarbon products, accelerating scale supply to global metals producers

SEATTLE, Dec. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) and Aymium today announced they have entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to partner to produce and sell 1.5 million tons of sustainable biocarbon annually for use in metals production. As an initial stage of this partnership, the companies have formed a joint venture — TerraForge Biocarbon Solutions — to build a jointly owned facility adjacent to Weyerhaeuser’s lumber mill in McComb, Miss., that will convert wood fiber into biocarbon through a combustion-free, low-emissions process.

Under the MOU, the companies will secure long-term biocarbon sales agreements and identify sites to construct multiple new production facilities across the Weyerhaeuser footprint over the next five years, leveraging Weyerhaeuser’s world-class timberland and manufacturing portfolio and Aymium’s proprietary technology and unparalleled track record of producing and supplying biocarbon products globally. At full scale, the platform of operating facilities will have the potential to convert over 7 million tons of wood fiber — provided exclusively by Weyerhaeuser — to deliver 1.5 million tons of metallurgical-grade biocarbon annually as a drop-in replacement for coal in iron, steel, silicon, ferro-alloys and other metals production.

Aymium has generated a significant global sales pipeline based on years of trials with leading global metals producers. The company’s patented products are engineered to immediately replace coal and coke without the need for capital investment or process modification, and with superior carbon levels, energy value, handling and environmental attributes to coal.

Weyerhaeuser sustainably manages more than 10 million acres of high-quality timberlands across the United States as well as 33 manufacturing facilities across North America — offering unmatched scale and reliable access to fiber.

“This partnership combines our renewable fiber resources and supply chain expertise with Aymium’s innovative technology and experience,” says Devin W. Stockfish, president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser. “It represents a major step forward in growing the scale and impact of our Climate Solutions business, and it’s also a key part of our broader accelerated growth strategy through 2030. When the McComb facility comes online in 2027, it’s going to generate new demand for fiber in the region — supporting our McComb operations and local Timberlands teams — while creating more great jobs in the community. It’s a model we look forward to replicating across our footprint.”

“The reliability, scale of sustainable supply and forestland expertise of Weyerhaeuser provide unmatched sourcing security of our main raw material to support expansion,” says James Mennell, CEO of Aymium. “Through this partnership, we will significantly grow our manufacturing capacity to produce biocarbon as an immediately scalable, renewable replacement for coal and coke, while delivering differentiated value for our customers.”

ABOUT AYMIUM

  • Company receives the highest Water Security rating in two years into participation
  • Recognized for exceptional leadership in environmental stewardship

INCHEON, South Korea, Dec. 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Samsung Biologics (KRX: 207940.KS), a leading contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), today announced that it has received from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) an ‘A’ rating in Water Security.

Two years into its participation in CDP assessments, Samsung Biologics has earned the top rating in Water Security, one rating higher than last year. The CDP ‘A List’ recognizes companies demonstrating exceptional leadership in environmental stewardship, reflecting global standards of transparent execution. Around 2% of companies participating in CDP assessments are included.

Established in 2000, the CDP invites major global companies to disclose information on their environmental impact and sustainability efforts. Leading pharmaceutical companies actively encourage their partners to participate in CDP assessments to measure their progress in climate actions. Achieving a top rating is a credible external validation of corporate sustainability performance, requiring consistently high ratings across multiple areas, including strategy and implementation.

In this year’s assessment, Samsung Biologics was recognized for establishing concrete goals in natural capital strategies, water pollution management, and water reuse rates. The company also demonstrated high accuracy and reliability in reporting data on water intake, discharge, and consumption. CEO and President John Rim said, “This recognition reflects our consistent efforts to align with the ESG strategies set forth by our clients worldwide. Moving forward, we will continue in our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing water resource management.”

As the champion of the Supply Chains Working Group within the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) Health Systems Task Force, Samsung Biologics reinforces industry-wide ESG efforts as a sustainable CDMO partner. Aiming to fully transition to renewable energy by 2050, Samsung Biologics continues to focus its efforts on managing natural capital and reducing climate impact throughout the value chain, moving towards carbon neutrality.
