Phased Production Model with Staggered Rearing Schedules Keeps Operations Running Continuously, Positioning Kraig Labs to Meet Future Commercial Demand

Kraig Labs Production Team rearing BAM-1 parental strains

Kraig Labs Production Team rearing BAM-1 parental strains
Kraig Labs Production Team rearing BAM-1 parental strains

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“the Company”, “Kraig Labs”, or “Kraig’s”), a world leader in spider silk technology*, today announced that its September/October production cycle is well underway, with all three production centers running. Early reports indicate the Company is on track for another successful rearing cycle.

The announcement comes just days after Kraig Labs fulfilled its first purchase order from the performance sportswear segment, shipping custom recombinant spider silk yarn to a globally recognized brand. That delivery marked the Company’s transition from production milestones to commercial deliveries. This last cycle is further evidence of the production engine behind that milestone. Kraig Labs has built a reliable production platform capable of sustaining commercial-scale levels of spider silk to the market.

“Our team in Vietnam is executing well, and the early indicators for this cycle are encouraging,” said Kim Thompson, Founder and CEO of Kraig Labs. “All three centers are up and running on schedule. That matters now, more than ever. We are no longer producing to demonstrate and confirm scale. Production is now focused on addressing the commercial market opportunities for spider silk.”

Kraig Labs uses genetically engineered silkworms to produce silk containing key spider silk proteins. A “rearing cycle” involves raising a batch of silkworms from hatching through cocoon formation. The current cycle focuses on the Company’s parental strains, which are the breeding lines used to produce hybrid silkworm eggs. Silkworms hatched from those eggs subsequently produce the silk cocoons that are processed into yarn.

“Running three centers on phased schedules isn’t just about volume,” Thompson continued. “It’s about building an operation that is resilient at high volume. One center can be in early rearing while another is deep into production and a third is preparing for harvest. That overlap gives us continuous output and real redundancy. If one center faces a disruption, the other two keep moving.”

Kraig Labs’ three production centers each run their own rearing cycle on a staggered schedule, so the facilities are at different stages of development at any given time. This approach maintains a steady supply of hybrid eggs for subsequent silk production while reducing reliance on any single facility.

That redundancy has taken on added significance following the Company’s last production run. Kraig Labs grew silk production by more than 30% through the rainy season, historically one of the most difficult stretches of the year. Management believes the phased model was a key factor behind that result. This system continues to elevate Kraig’s operations with a growing supply line of spider silk available to address opportunities for additional commercial orders.

Thompson concluded, “A continuous, redundant production model is what positions Kraig Labs to move quickly when new opportunities arise. Three centers, three schedules, one continuous operation, prepared for the opportunities ahead.”

The Company’s leadership in biomaterials was recently spotlighted on the cover of the March 2026 issue of National Geographic, highlighting the growing importance and predominance of our work in scaling spider silk production.

ATH434 50 mg significantly slowed functional decline in MSA by approximately 52% versus placebo on the 11-item UMSARS at Week 52 with CSF NfL as a covariate

Baseline CSF NfL predicted the rate of functional decline, supporting its use as a severity covariate in Phase 3

MELBOURNE, Australia and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Alterity Therapeutics (ASX: ATH, NASDAQ: ATHE) (“Alterity” or “the Company”), a biotechnology company dedicated to developing disease modifying treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, today announced that additional analyses from its randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled ATH434-201 Phase 2 trial in Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) were presented at the 2026 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders (MDS Congress) in Seoul, Korea. The poster brings together clinical, biomarker, and imaging results from the trial after adjusting for baseline disease severity, measured by cerebrospinal fluid neurofilament light chain (CSF NfL).

“These additional analyses strengthen our confidence in ATH434 as a potential disease-modifying therapy for MSA. When we account for differences in baseline disease severity using CSF NfL, ATH434 50 mg significantly slowed functional decline by more than 50% compared with placebo over one year, a treatment effect well above the threshold considered clinically meaningful,” said David Stamler, M.D., CEO.

“I continue to be impressed by the strength of the efficacy signal in our Phase 2 study in the context of other treatments that are in development for MSA. By incorporating the learnings regarding NfL into our Phase 3 confirmatory trial, we continue to build on our de-risking strategy that has been so successful in Phase 2,” concluded Dr. Stamler.

The poster, entitled, “ATH434 in Multiple System Atrophy: Results from a Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Phase 2 Study with CSF Neurofilament Light Chain as a Disease Severity Covariate,” analyzed baseline CSF NfL, an established prognostic biomarker of clinical decline in MSA, as a covariate to account for variability in baseline disease severity.

The analysis demonstrated that CSF NfL, a prespecified covariate in the Phase 2 trial, predicts functional decline in individuals with MSA. Higher baseline CSF NfL predicted greater decline at Week 52: each 1,000 pg/mL increase was associated with approximately 0.9 additional points of worsening on UMSARS I1, an effect that was significant (p=0.033). This supports using CSF NfL as a covariate in future MSA trials since adjusting for a known predictor of decline can produce a more precise measurement of treatment effect.

ATH434 50 mg significantly slowed functional decline on the 11-item UMSARS Part I

The analysis utilized a mixed model for repeated measures (MMRM)2 applied to align with the imaging analyses conducted on the Modified Intent-to-treat (mITT) population (N=61)3. After adjustment for baseline CSF NFL, ATH434 50 mg significantly slowed functional decline on the 11-item UMSARS Part I4 at Week 52 with a −4.64-point difference versus placebo in change from baseline (p=0.032), roughly 3-fold more improvement compared to the 1.5-point minimal clinically important difference (MCID). This represents an approximate 52% slowing of functional decline in the 50 mg dose group relative to placebo. The 75 mg dose also slowed functional decline with a −2.81-point difference versus placebo in change from baseline at Week 26 (p=0.072) and Week 52 (p=0.179). These results are consistent with the previously reported analysis of the 11-item UMSARS Part I in the Phase 2 clinical analysis population, in which ATH434 50 mg slowed decline by 46% versus placebo (p=0.037). The difference between the two figures reflects the distinct analysis populations and statistical models.

Advanced brain iron MRI imaging is consistent with the ATH434 mechanism of action as an iron-chaperone

The poster also reported brain iron measured by quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) MRI analyzed with the same CSF NfL-adjusted model. ATH434 is designed as an iron chaperone and is intended to redistribute reactive (labile) iron that is driving MSA pathology. MRI can detect iron leaving cells but cannot measure iron that has been stored or buffered within cells. Although the trial’s primary endpoint of change in substantia nigra iron at Week 52 was not met, change from baseline in iron was numerically lower in the putamen and globus pallidus with ATH434 vs placebo. In the dentate nucleus, iron signal increased relative to placebo at Week 52 (50 mg: +0.016 ppm, p=0.021), which is hypothesized to reflect redistribution of mobilized iron through the brain’s glymphatic system. The poster noted that regional differences may reflect region-specific iron handling because an MRI captures iron efflux but not the potential storage or buffering effects of ATH434.

The presentation is available on the Alterity Therapeutics website here.

About ATH434-201 Phase 2 Clinical Trial

The ATH434-201 Phase 2 clinical trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled investigation of 12 months treatment with ATH434 in patients with MSA. The study evaluated the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetics of ATH434 as well as the effect of ATH434 on neuroimaging and protein biomarkers. Wearable sensors were employed to evaluate motor activities outside of the clinic. The study enrolled 77 adults who were randomly assigned to receive ATH434 50 mg or 75 mg twice daily or matching placebo. The data showed that, compared to placebo, ATH434 50 mg produced clinically and statistically significant slowing of decline on the 11-item Unified Multiple System Atrophy Rating Scale (UMSARS) Part I, a functional rating scale that assesses disability on activities of daily living affected in MSA. Additional efficacy assessments demonstrated improvement consistent with the positive UMSARS Part I findings including trends in improved motor performance on the Clinical Global Impression of Severity Scale, the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire and the Orthostatic Hypotension Symptom Assessment. Wearable sensor data indicated that ATH434 also led to increased activity in an outpatient setting. Biomarkers were used to evaluate potential drug effect and target engagement relative to placebo. Both dose levels reduced iron accumulation in MSA affected brain regions with trends in preservation of brain volume. ATH434 was well tolerated with similar adverse event rates compared to placebo and no serious adverse events attributed to ATH434. Additional information on the Phase 2 trial can be found by ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT05109091.

About Multiple System Atrophy

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare, neurodegenerative disease characterized by failure of the autonomic nervous system and impaired movement. The symptoms reflect the progressive loss of function and death of different types of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It is a rapidly progressive disease and causes profound disability. MSA is a Parkinsonian disorder characterized by a variable combination of slowed movement and/or rigidity, autonomic instability that affects involuntary functions such as blood pressure maintenance and bladder control, and impaired balance and/or coordination that predisposes to falls. A pathological hallmark of MSA is the accumulation of the protein α-synuclein within glia, the support cells of the central nervous system, and neuron loss in multiple brain regions. MSA affects up to 50,000 individuals in the U.S., and while some of the symptoms of MSA can be treated with medications, currently there are no drugs that are able to slow disease progression and there is no cure.4

TORONTO, Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Electra Battery Materials Corporation (NASDAQ: ELBM; TSX-V: ELBM) (“Electra” or the “Company”) today announced the appointment of Garzon Duenas as General Manager and Commissioning Leader, effective today. The appointment strengthens Electra’s operating leadership as the Company prepares to transition its Ontario cobalt sulfate refinery from construction through commissioning, ramp-up and commercial operations.

Construction remains on budget, with select commissioning activities targeted to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, mechanical completion targeted for the second quarter of 2027, full commissioning and production ramp-up expected in the third quarter of 2027, and commercial production targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.

Mr. Duenas holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and brings more than three decades of experience managing, commissioning and operating mineral processing plants and refining facilities in Canada and internationally. His background spans cobalt, nickel, copper, platinum group metals, gold and specialty chemicals, with extensive experience in operational readiness, process optimization, team development and the safe transition of processing facilities into production.

“With mechanical completion targeted for the second quarter of 2027, we are now building the team and operating systems needed to commission the refinery and bring it into production safely and reliably,” said Trent Mell, CEO. “Garzon and I have worked together before, and I have seen firsthand the discipline and operating focus he brings. He sets high performance standards, drives continuous improvement and develops the people around him to deliver against those standards. I know what he can deliver and I am confident he is the right leader to help take the refinery from construction through commissioning and into operations.”

As Electra’s General Manager, Mr. Duenas will lead operational readiness and the transition of the Company’s refinery from construction through commissioning, start-up and into steady-state operations. He will be responsible for building and leading the commissioning and operating teams, establishing the systems, procedures and operating discipline required for safe and reliable production, and working closely with the project team to ensure a seamless transition from construction to operations.

During his career, Mr. Duenas managed the commissioning and start-up of a 3,000-tonne-per-year nickel and cobalt processing facility in the Philippines that produced high-purity nickel and cobalt salts using leaching and solvent extraction, both core unit operations in Electra’s refinery. He later served as project manager for the engineering, procurement and construction management of a nickel refinery and led the commissioning of a nickel concentrator through to commercial production. He has also overseen concentrator operations of up to 20,000 tonnes per day, water-treatment systems, maintenance programs, operating budgets and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Most recently, Mr. Duenas led mill and surface operations at Eldorado Gold Saskatchewan, where his responsibilities included production management, operational readiness and commissioning, as well as coordinating engineering teams, contractors and operating personnel ahead of start-up. He previously oversaw mill operations at North American Palladium’s Lac des Iles mine in northwestern Ontario, where he is credited with improving recoveries and overall operations for a 15,000 tonne-per-day mill and has also held senior operational and process-management roles with Myra Falls Mine, Canadian Silica Industries, Westpro Machinery and other mineral-processing organizations.

“Electra is at an important point in the development of the refinery, and I’m excited to join the team as we prepare to make the transition into operations,” said Mr. Duenas. “Earlier in my career I commissioned nickel and cobalt leaching and solvent-extraction circuits, and I know that a successful start-up is largely decided before the first feed is introduced. My focus will be on creating a strong operating culture built around safety, reliability and execution, and ensuring our people and processes are ready to deliver as the refinery comes online.”

Electra’s refinery in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, is designed to process approximately 18,000 tonnes of cobalt hydroxide feed per year to produce 5,120 tonnes per year of contained cobalt in a battery-grade cobalt sulfate. A Phase 2 expansion will increase cobalt-hydroxide throughput to approximately 22,500 tonnes per year, or 68 tonnes per day, to produce 6,500 tonnes per year of contained cobalt. Once commissioned, the facility is expected to be North America’s first battery-grade cobalt sulfate refinery, providing a domestic source of refined cobalt and adding to the continent’s critical minerals processing supply chain. The refinery is expected to be a cornerstone of Electra’s broader strategy to build a potential North American critical minerals processing platform and reduce reliance on foreign refining capacity.

The Company also announces that in accordance with its Long-Term Incentive Plan, and in connection with this appointment, the Company will issue 150,000 incentive stock options, adjusted for the closing price as of October 5, 2026. The stock options will vest in two equal tranches on the first and second anniversary of the grant date over a three-year period. The grant is subject to the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange. Long-term incentive grants are an important retention and incentive tool for key employees, and a mechanism to align interests with shareholders.
