February 24, 2023 /3BL Media/ -The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers (IFPW), in partnership with member companies including global healthcare company AmerisourceBergen and IQVIA, a leading provider of advanced analytics and technology solutions, today launched an ESG framework and toolkit to serve as a resource for the industry. Leveraging insights from a wide range of healthcare organizations, which included Farmacos Nacionales, McKesson, Profarma, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Zuellig Pharma, the IFPW Framework for ESG is intended to create global alignment and consistency across the pharmaceutical sector regarding how to effectively communicate and report on the impact of environmental, social, and corporate governance initiatives to advance the supply chain forward.

“Prioritizing ESG strategies is crucial within the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, and we are excited to provide a resource that is available for use by industry leaders across the globe as they develop their own initiatives,” said Mark Parrish, President of IFPW. “Our hope is that this framework will allow healthcare organizations, and the broader healthcare supply chain, to elevate and optimize their approaches to ESG over time and to commit even further to creating a healthier, more sustainable, and more equitable industry.”

The IFPW framework carefully analyzes all aspects of ESG to provide pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors with best practices and guidance to inform their efforts, including:

Addressing carbon emissions, energy use, and climate changePortraying environmental stewardship through waste management, packaging design, and regulatory complianceProtecting access to medicine and advancing global health equity via security of medical supplies, affordability, and community engagementHuman capital management through diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, talent acquisition, and ensuring employee health and safetyEthics compliance and engagement via codes of practice and guidelines, data privacy, stakeholder engagement, and human rights throughout the supply chain

“This collaboration and the resulting framework are a testament to the crucial role and influence of distributors within the pharmaceutical supply chain,” said Susan Lorenz-Fisher, Senior Vice President of Global Sustainability & ESG Integration at AmerisourceBergen and chair of IFPW’s ESG Advisory Committee. “By leveraging our experience, reach, and relationships across our sector, we are able to inform best practices to elevate the industry’s collective impact on ESG. We are proud to align with both IFPW and IQVIA to enable a more sustainable and equitable global supply chain.”

“The last few years have highlighted the critical role that the supply chain plays in delivering healthcare,” said Simon Tottman, Vice President, Global Strategic Partners, IQVIA. “As the industry looks to advance and strengthen sustainability and citizenship efforts, the ESG framework sets out a clear roadmap for development of key focus areas for the coming years. As global partners for IQVIA, it has been an honor to work with the IFPW, AmerisourceBergen and the broader industry to provide practical ways that the healthcare supply chain can operate in an even more ESG considerate manner.”

From wide-eyed kid dreaming of a career in STEM to my current role as Manager of New Product Development for KOHLER Residential Power, I’ve spent a decade and a half in pursuit of a fulfilling career, passions, and personal life.

I’ve had countless opportunities—to make deep connections, to develop my engineering skills, to grow as a leader, and to make an impact in my community. I feel fortunate to work for a company that supports me both professionally and personally to become the best version of myself—whomever I decide I want to be (hint: it’s always evolving!).

It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned a few lessons along the way on how to get the most from work and life—and they’re surprisingly simple.

First, find the people who value you.

Whether it’s a mentor, an employer, a circle of friends, or a community organization, seek out the people that want your opinion, care about your wellbeing and will lift you up in pursuit of your goals.

As a female engineer in the generator space, I’m a rarity—even more so as a leader. But at Kohler, I am not looked at as a “woman” leader. I’m someone who is trusted, relied upon for my skillset, and valued for the perspective I bring to our team and for our customers. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in two leadership development programs, represent Kohler at the Society of Women Engineers conferences, and deepen my commitment to diversity through Kohler’s various business resource groups. Feeling valued and supported by my colleagues and my employer has made all the difference in my career and my sense of belonging.

Next up … remember, it’s okay to start from nothing.

In school, I knew I wanted to be an engineer—but to be honest, it felt daunting. I knew I’d have to pay for school on my own. I knew as a female I’d be in the minority in my classes. And I knew I couldn’t predict the job market when I graduated.

But I did it anyway.

I put myself through school, commuting an hour each way while working two jobs to pay tuition. I was one of two female mechanical engineering students in my class. And when I graduated in 2009, an economic downturn meant jobs were scarce, so I took a contract job doing CAD work. Little did I know, I’d still be at the same company 12 years later, growing my career in an engineering leadership role.

Sometimes you have to start from scratch, come from behind, beat the odds—whatever you want to call it. Don’t be intimated. You can start from nothing and achieve great things.

Finally (and most importantly), pay it forward.

All our achievements mean nothing if we aren’t making a positive impact on those around us. This will look different for each of us, but I believe it’s important in driving our purpose. For me, I pay it forward by supporting up-and-comers interested in a STEM career. I enjoy going to local high schools to share about my job and my experiences. I also am involved with Kohler’s intern/co-op students, mentorship programs and career fairs.

I was once the kid on the other side of the table, and I know how great it feels to be welcomed, encouraged, and supported. Plus, you’ll often be surprised how much you can learn from their fresh perspectives.

This advice applies to all aspects of life. No matter what your goals are—career, fitness, relationships, finances, personal development—I’ve found these three lessons crucial to my success. Find your people, don’t be afraid to take chances, and take care of each other along the way.

CNH Industrial has brought its Beach Care Project to the United Kingdom.

The company’s global initiative, which has previously stopped in Italy, France and Spain, aims to keep coastlines clean. It raises awareness of the damaging impact plastic has on the marine environment and promotes conscious management of the beach ecosystem. Beaches are of great environmental, social, touristic and economic importance. So, CNH Industrial is resolved to protect them. And encourage others to do the same.

The project combines research and education with collective action. Initially developed in partnership with several European academic institutes, it has since entered schools across the continent. So far, it has brought educational kits and lessons on environmental conservation to over 10,000 children.

At Thorney Bay Beach, Canvey Island, Essex, CNH Industrial supported the work of Canvey Bay Watch – a volunteer group made up of local residents. Every week for over eight years the dedicated Canvey Bay Watch volunteers have engaged in various beach cleaning and beautification activities. Previously, the south-coast location was spoiled by waste flowing from London via the River Thames. Now, it is a safe, attractive and sustainable community hub.

CNH Industrial provided a CASE TV370B B Series Compact Track Loader to assist the volunteers. The machine carried algae – brought ashore by the tides – to an identified section of the beach, creating a natural protective barrier against storm surges and erosion. This tough task – usually done by hand – was completed more efficiently.

Barry Campagna, Chairman of Canvey Bay Watch, said: “When the beach is clean, people show it more care and respect. Our efforts make people further appreciate the marine environment. It also enables other opportunities for local children to learn about the positive ecological impact they can make. CASE’s machine certainly made our work easier today.”

Phil Palmer, the legendary English musician best known for his work with Dire Straits, is a supporter of the Beach Care Project. He said: “I have always been a great lover of the sea and feel that it is essential for all of us to care for the planet. We must protect the environment from contamination and preserve it for ourselves – and for our children who will inherit it. The Beach Care project has this purpose. And I think it is important to promote it.”

Daniela Ropolo, Head of Sustainable Initiatives at CNH Industrial, commented:

“At CNH Industrial, sustainability informs everything we do. Through this important international project, we are promoting the protection of the environment across generations. And its impact is getting bigger and bigger with each country we visit.”

CNH Industrial plans to maintain its link with Canvey Bay Watch. The volunteers have been invited for a tour of the company’s Basildon tractor plant. There, they will discover how the company is driving a sustainable future, both through its community initiatives and innovative products.

Global brands Coach, Kate Spade New York and Stuart Weitzman are united under Tapestry’s umbrella to not only deliver best-in-class products, but experiences — for both our consumers and the employees who create them.

We are committed to developing the next generation of Black and brown talent in fashion. We do this through four interconnected principles: talent, culture, community, and marketplace.

We actively engage in the communities in which we live and work to increase access to education in the design world. Through corporate, foundation and brand-led partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Fashion Institute of Technology’s Social Justice Center, The Opportunity Network, Harlem’s Fashion Row, and more, Tapestry and its house of brands is equipping historically underrepresented and marginalized students around the world with the resources needed to achieve their dreams. Since 2021, the Tapestry Foundation has awarded over $1M to support Black and brown communities while in FY2022, the Coach Foundation has awarded 4,200 scholarships and invested $12.5 million in financial grants and product donations.

We believe that by embracing our responsibility in the marketplace as a global fashion company, we can affect positive change for our industry and deliver on our values. We aim to set the standard for consumer inclusion and advocacy through our brands.

In 2017, Tapestry joined the Open to All campaign, a national effort to ensure everyone feels safe, respected and accepted as they live, shop, and work, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, immigration status, religion or disability. In 2022, as part of this same coalition, Tapestry signed onto the Mitigate Racial Bias in Retail Charter, which aims to bring retailers together to implement tactics and actions that can mitigate racial biases from the shopper experience and create more welcoming retail environments for all. Store employees across all Tapestry brands have started to receive training and accountability measures to ensure an inclusive shopping experience for our BIPOC customers.

By attracting, retaining and growing top talent from a diverse set of backgrounds, we are becoming an employer of choice in a rapidly evolving talent market. We strive to empower our people to help shape the place they work, to be part of building a culture of belonging. We are cultivating an environment where people are heard, seen and recognized for who they are and their contributions.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are an integral part of our culture, existing to further build deep and powerful connections between employees of different generations and backgrounds, advocate for those without a voice, and support personal development of their members. Our Black Alliance ERG is building a legacy of equity and inclusion through the advancement and support of Black employees at Tapestry and our brands. This Black History Month, Tapestry and the Black Alliance are exploring how Black people have resisted and triumphed over historic and ongoing oppression.

With this lens, the Black Alliance is spotlighting the many triumphs of African American trailblazers in the fields of art, education, marketing, and media. Throughout February, the Black Alliance is featuring industry professionals who will share their career journeys and highlight the important work being done to create more opportunities for our BIPOC community.

In FY2022 the Tapestry Foundation launched the ERG Community Grant Program, which supports all of Tapestry’s ERGs with charitable grant funding for partnerships with organizations connected to the specific missions of each ERG and aligned to our greater enterprise mission to serve as accountable stewards for the communities in which we live and work. In FY2022, the Tapestry Foundation donated $141,000 to 19 organizations around the world as nominated by our ERGs. This Black History Month, the Black Alliance will be making a grant to benefit Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis), a nonprofit dedicated to educating, organizing and training Black and Latinx youth to challenge inequity and champion opportunity.

Tapestry knows that the kind of ingenuity that turns heads, that turns objects into icons, comes only from places few have looked before – so diverse perspectives are some of the greatest assets we have.

We give space for the voices of customers, too, to express themselves through our brands rather than the other way around. At Tapestry, we stand for open doors. So come as you are. Let’s create something from it, together.

Every year, as an appreciation for their hard work and dedication, Whole Planet Foundation provides an opportunity to our partner organizations around the globe to nominate one Field Officer from their institution for their outstanding performance. Field staff are the heart of the program for our partner organizations. They work with clients from underserved communities living in extreme and difficult conditions. They are not only responsible to manage day-to-day loan transactions with clients, but also to build relationships with them with utmost trust and empathy. They often become like “life coaches” to their clients as they go into their communities, learn about their lives, build relationships with them and their families, and connect them with opportunities that can change their lives.

We are pleased to share that in the second quarter of 2022, Whole Planet Foundation has awarded 14 Field Officers with a total of $2,800 and in the third quarter of 2022, 15 Field Officers were awarded with $3,000. Whole Planet Foundation would like to congratulate all the winners for their commitment to their communities, their hard work and passion!

Here are some direct quotes from some of the winners of the Field Officer Appreciations and Awards from Q2 and Q3 2022:

Herve, Grassland Cameroon, Cameroon: “Making a difference in the livelihoods of farmers gives me a sense of purpose. Not only does this zeal guide me in how I manage my farmers, but it also enables me to seek new ways of streamlining their production costs while still improving on their yields.” In 2021, the prices of fertilizer skyrocketed, and some small holder farmers were not able to collect the total quantity needed. Herve showed farmers how to plant soybeans along with maize plants which helped the farmers cut their cost of fertilizer application by 35%.

Veronique, Yikkri, Burkina Faso: “I work with determination for the success of the activities of the institution and the satisfaction of the beneficiaries. I work in areas that are difficult to access, located more than 40 km from the agency. During the winter period, I faced flooding in its area of intervention, but that has never stopped me from continuing my activities. I was congratulated by the heads of my institution for my results.” Veronique has been with Yikkri for four years and she maintains a portfolio of 460 clients – the highest number of active borrowers in the institution, the healthiest portfolio PAR 30 days of 0.00%, and improved living conditions of beneficiaries who are mostly illiterate.

Tran Thanh, TYM, Vietnam: Thuy has been with TYM for 15 years. Most recently, she was supporting the sale of agricultural products for TYM members and people in localities affected by the Covid epidemic. “When I learned that our member could not sell their agricultural products due to social distancing in Soc Son during Covid time, I contacted my brothers, sisters, and friends to buy and re-sell products for their members. On summer Saturdays and Sundays in June 2021, the temperature could raise up to 39-40 degrees Celsius, my siblings, buddies and I started selling these products from 5 a.m. to avoid the heat. From noon until 8 p.m., we sold agricultural products through Facebook live streaming. We sold over 200 tons of agricultural products, earning more than 400 million dong for farmers in difficult localities, including more than 30 members of TYM.”

Whole Planet Foundations is grateful to the hundreds of field officers that work with our implementing partner organizations to help some of the most vulnerable populations in the world. Their hard work and dedication to alleviating poverty is unparalleled and we thank them for their partnership in helping us achieve our mission.
