RESTON, Va., April 5, 2023 /3BL Media/ – CACI International Inc (NYSE: CACI) understands the importance of education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and knows that candy can be a powerful motivator.

At the Navy League of the United States Sea Air Space STEM Expo on April 2, CACI hosted a booth where children participated in a “Candy Drop” experiment. Similar to the classic egg drop experiment, each child was given a candy cane and some additional materials and then was tasked with creating a solution that prevents the candy cane from breaking when dropped from six feet in the air. While everyone received a token for participating, those who successfully “delivered the payload” received an additional fun prize. The young innovators invented a variety of creative solutions, including attaching improvised parachutes and building a soft-landing pad.

CACI’s philanthropy program, CACI Cares, orchestrated the experiment along with CACI volunteers who attended the STEM Expo. The STEM Expo is a free opportunity for students from grades 5 through 12 to learn more about pursuing careers in STEM. This is CACI’s third year sponsoring the event.

“We are excited to provide young innovators with engaging opportunities to develop creative problem solving skills and understand the types of challenges they can help address one day if they pursue a STEM education,” said Glenn Kurowski, CACI Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “We hope our participation in this event inspired these budding and curious minds to recognize the fun factor involved in developing out-of-the-box solutions, which is what we do at CACI every day in support of national security.”

As the world searches for solutions to clean up legacy industries, emerging technologies and best practices are paving the way for a future of sustainable fueling. Among these innovations, Booster’s mobile fuel delivery platform delivers conventional and sustainable fuels directly to fleets with a solution that is better for you, your community, and the planet.

In the modern landscape, sustainability is more than just environmental stewardship; it also includes the longevity of your business and the efficacy of your operations to steadily hit goals over the long term. As businesses look for new and innovative ways to reduce their carbon footprints, mobile fuel delivery arises as the star solution for sustainable fueling. Booster is leading the charge in this area by revolutionizing the way fuel energy is delivered to businesses and individuals.

As fleets adopt innovative solutions to boost sustainability, Booster’s flexible, adaptable service provides the fueling system to help fleets succeed. Here are 5 emerging technologies and best practices that set Booster apart from the rest:

1. Infrastructure-light mobile fueling

As with any major industrial shift, the energy transition will take decades to complete, in part because it will require significant development of infrastructure. This is one reason mobile fueling is uniquely positioned to support the development and adoption of sustainable and zero-emissions transportation technologies, due to its adaptable, infrastructure-light nature.

Booster’s approach to fueling is simple and straightforward. Instead of requiring customers to visit gas stations, Booster brings the fuel directly to their location. This approach not only saves time but also reduces traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.

While traditional gas stations require significant up-front investment and long-term commitment, mobile fueling is uniquely positioned to support the development and adoption of sustainable and zero-emissions transportation technologies. With Booster’s mobile fueling services, fleets can access a range of fuel types without the need for a significant investment or long-term commitment.

2. The highest safety standards

Though our mission seeks to bring sustainable fueling solutions to fleets everywhere, we recognize that true sustainability must prioritize the safety and longevity of our team members and the communities we serve.

With this recognition in mind, we’ve designed Booster’s sustainable approach to fueling to operate within robust safety protocols. These protocols ensure that fueling is conducted safely and efficiently, minimizing the risk of accidents or spills. Additionally, Booster uses smart tanker technology to ensure the fueling process is as efficient, effective, and safe as possible. This technology helps to reduce fuel waste, ensures that the correct amount of fuel is dispensed at each location, and includes overturn and spill protection.

By prioritizing safety and efficiency, Booster is making significant strides toward a sustainable future in the fueling industry.

3. A range of sustainable fuel offerings

Booster offers a range of sustainable fuels to lower emissions for existing internal combustion engine vehicles, including renewable fuels like renewable diesel. These fuels are often made from renewable and abundant waste feedstocks and have low or no lifecycle emissions, making them a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels.

Renewable diesel is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel fuel. It is produced from renewable sources, such as plant oils, animal fats, and waste materials, and can lower emissions by up to 85%. Renewable diesel is a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional diesel fuel, making it an ideal choice for businesses that want to reduce their carbon footprint.

4. Innovative Data Insights

To improve customer satisfaction and manage its fueling operations, Booster makes use of cutting-edge data insights. Its own technology platform — which gathers and examines data on gas consumption, delivery patterns, and consumer behaviors — is one of the main ways they accomplish this. Booster may increase efficiency and cut waste by using this data to drive decisions about route optimization, planning scheme, and inventory control.

5. Reduced Emissions

Fleet managers looking to lower emissions with a less expensive, more immediate solution than zero-emission vehicles may consider ditching the gas station in favor of mobile fueling.

According to GeoTab, the average fleet vehicle drives approximately 2.2 off-route miles per gas station trip. At an average of 15.2 gas station visits monthly, the emissions from this non-essential travel can be a significant addition to overall fleet emissions.

By contrast, mobile fuel delivery can help fleets reduce carbon emissions by thousands of pounds annually. This model reduces emissions in two ways: 1) by reducing overall miles driven (and thus emissions generated), and 2) through reductions realized by the adoption of sustainable alternative fuels. Booster service reduces 296 lbs of carbon emissions per vehicle per year, or 4,450 lbs of CO2 annually for a fleet of 15 vehicles.

The Future of Sustainable Fueling

As a company committed to responsible environmental, social, and governance priorities not just in our company but in the communities we serve, Booster’s sustainability efforts extend beyond its business model. We are committed to reducing environmental impact by focusing sustainability efforts in a range of areas. Here are just some of our commitments to sustainability:

Booster actively participates in the Campaign for Clean Air’s California Clean Air Day Pledge and aims for 100% corporate participation.Booster’s fleet of Smart Tankers—proprietary energy delivery vehicles—is supported by telematics & IoT connectivity to provide actionable data on efficiency and consumption.Nearly all of Booster’s fleet clients have switched to Renewable Diesel in markets where it is available. This sustainable alternative fuel offers up to 85% fewer lifecycle emissions than petroleum diesel.

As we look to the future of sustainable fueling, it is important to consider not only the environmental impact of our choices but also the long-term sustainability of our businesses and operations. With emerging technologies and best practices, Booster is paving the way toward a better future for fueling.

When Julia Kocs and Brigetta Koepke individually signed up to participate in a mock job interview through a community nonprofit, neither knew their pairing would lead to them working side-by-side at Lenovo on an innovative global project.

Brigetta first came to Lenovo after looking for an employer that had a clear commitment to community and outreach. Lenovo’s philanthropy initiatives and emphasis on community welfare impressed Brigetta, leading her to pursue and ultimately accept her current position as Lenovo’s Director of Global Integrated Channel Communications.

Brigetta went searching for a way she could best give back to others using her experience and skills. She found an opportunity on Lenovo’s internal “Love On” platform to work with the local Raleigh chapter of Dress for Success by conducting mock interviews and providing resumé advice to women seeking to jumpstart or change their careers. Dress for Success stood out to Brigetta because of the organization’s commitment to the empowerment of women and its implementation of modern technology practices to best serve the current generation of job seekers.

Through the Dress for Success mentorship program, Brigetta met Julia Kocs, a meeting both women now describe as serendipitous.

Connection and Community

Julia is no stranger to hard work and success. A first-generation Hungarian immigrant, Julia was the first in her family to go to college and graduate school. It was in graduate school that Julia became drawn to the communications field. She would ultimately go on to excel in her career working in the technology communications sector in Silicon Valley.

After many years working on the West Coast, Julia set her sights East and made North Carolina her home. In a new city and on the hunt for her next opportunity, Julia was recommended to Dress for Success as an organization to network with other women in business.

At first she was hesitant about participating in mock interviews, concerned to be taking time and resources from women who may face more complex barriers than she was facing. She eventually agreed to participate and signed up for the interviews, thinking it would bolster her interview skills and help her meet new people in the Research Triangle Park business community.

More Than Clothes

Through her experience, Julia quickly became aware that Dress for Success offered valuable opportunities and resources that women could benefit from at any stage of their careers.

“It was an inspiring experience,” Julia said. “Women need support and camaraderie and access to development resources at every level, regardless of their career path. Dress for Success provides that by helping a job seeker’s experience from a holistic point of view.”

Julia was impressed that the organization provides women with everything from career coaching and resume building to access to professional clothing and yoga sessions — all with the goal of helping women prepare for and grow within their careers.

Julia was also thankful that Dress for Success is passionate about equity and meeting every participant where they are in their career. For Julia, this meant getting interview prep at an executive level. Enter: Brigetta Koepke.

A Chance Meeting

It was through the mock interview process that Brigetta and Julia met. Brigetta was instantly impressed with Julia’s positivity and professional experience. During their initial conversation, the subject turned to Brigetta’s experience at Lenovo, and Brigetta expressed that what sets Lenovo apart for her is the company’s commitment to the community. At that point, Julia was not necessarily considering another role with a technology firm; however, she found herself impressed by Lenovo’s dedication to not only improve society through innovation, but also through service.

Shortly after meeting Brigetta and utilizing the tips she had provided to revise her resume; Julia began actively pursuing a new communications position. Scanning through the many job listings available in the area, Julia came across a j listing for a position at Lenovo. Considering the praise Brigetta had shared about her employer, Julia decided to take a chance and submit her resume. It didn’t take long before Brigetta realized Julia was applying for a role on her team.

Brigetta was working diligently to build out Lenovo’s new global channel communications team to be a multi-cultural and international team with the ability and skills to advance conversations in a way that unites Lenovo partners. She interviewed several candidates for the Integrated Channel Communications Manager position but didn’t find the right fit for this role on the growing team. From their first meeting, Brigetta knew Julia would be an excellent candidate for whatever she applied for and was overjoyed when she decided to apply for the role on her own team.

Using the skills acquired through her Dress for Success experience, Julia advanced through interviews where Brigetta and others were taken by her knowledge, experience, determination, and warmth. Julia was offered the position of Global Integrated Channel Communications Manager in May of 2022. The first phone call she made after she accepted the offer was to Dress for Success, thanking them for their services and encouragement. Ten months later, Julia says her role at Lenovo so far has been “an incredible journey” that “provides a global work community where I am challenged and inspired to grow, collaborate, innovate and thrive every day.”

Paying it Forward

Both women are grateful to Lenovo for providing the connection to Dress for Success and the ability to prioritize time to continue their relationship with the organization. Alongside Brigetta, Julia now volunteers with Dress for Success for mock interviews and provides career mentorship to women.

Using her own experience as inspiration, Julia works to ensure women in her new community have the same access to resources, experiences, and opportunities to progress their own careers.

Julia’s advice to women who might steer away from asking for career help: “Seeking support at any stage of one’s career is a statement of strength. Imagine how strong we can be together if we are not afraid to ask!”

Cummins

President Biden visited Cummins Inc. in Fridley, Minnesota, this week (March 3) as part of the Administration’s Investing in America tour, maintaining the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress in 2022 is fueling innovation and the clean energy economy.

The president spoke for some 30 minutes and toured the company’s plant, which will soon be home to Accelera by Cummins’ first U.S.-based manufacturing location for electrolyzers, a technology key to producing green hydrogen.

“Cummins will build the technology that produces clean hydrogen,” the president said in remarks prepared for the visit. “Companies and utilities across the country will use those products to make clean hydrogen.  And trucks made in America with zero-emission engines will be powered by clean hydrogen.”

Coinciding with the visit, Cummins, a global power technology leader, announced that in addition to recent investments in Fridley, the company is investing more than $1 billion across its U.S. engine manufacturing network in Indiana, North Carolina and New York.

The investment will provide upgrades to those facilities to support the industry’s first fuel agnostic engine platforms capable of running on low carbon fuels, including natural gas, diesel and eventually hydrogen, helping to begin decarbonizing the nation’s truck fleets today.

“The electrolyzer production in Minnesota and investment in our Indiana, North Carolina and New York facilities are reflective of our dual path approach of advancing both engine-based and zero-emission solutions – an approach that is best for all of our stakeholders and our impact on the planet,” said Cummins President and CEO Jennifer Rumsey. “We can’t do this alone and are grateful for the continued partnership and collaboration with congressional leaders and the Biden Administration.”

The Inflation Reduction Act included the largest investment in climate and energy in U.S. history. Cummins was an outspoken advocate for passage. Rumsey appeared at several forums voicing her support, including one where she joined Biden, General Motors CEO Mary Barra and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen.

An electrolyzer splits water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen can be stored as a compressed gas or liquid and used as an energy-dense, clean power source to help decarbonize a variety of hard-to-abate sectors. Hydrogen is considered “green” if it is produced using renewable energy.

Cummins’ Destination Zero strategy is designed to develop low- and no-carbon technologies for applications where it makes sense, while improving the company’s core technologies so customers in applications that will take longer to decarbonize can begin reducing carbon immediately rather than wait.

Look up the word “responsible” in the dictionary, and you’ll find definitions you can probably relate to—“accountable for one’s actions,” “having an obligation to do something,” or “reliable, trustworthy.” But what does it mean to be a responsible company? More and more, individuals, institutions, and companies themselves are asking just that.

Sometimes, that answer can be found in internal policies and priorities—a company deciding for itself what it means to be responsible. Insight might also come from outside acknowledgements and awards. In recent years, Principal® has focused on the former, and been recognized with the latter.

An internal focus on responsibility

As a business, Principal has a primary fiduciary responsibility to deliver returns to shareholders. Corporate governance also directs management to do what’s good for customers and shareholders—and to do it with integrity; that’s known as the Global Code of Conduct. “Our strategy is grounded in our purpose,” says Dan Houston, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Principal. “We are united and inspired by our belief that everyone deserves access to financial security.”

That can (and does) look like a lot of different things in practice, and impacts everything from sourcing to cybersecurity to hiring. For example, when it comes to hiring, integrity ensures a commitment to a diverse, inclusive workplace. Cybersecurity focuses on what Principal can do to protect customer data—training employees, for example.

Our fiduciary responsibility also figures into guidelines for ESG—environmental, social, and governance. Often misunderstood, ESG is very much connected to a company’s integrity as well as the ethical and social choices that support its values.

Take the “E” in ESG: If a company dumps waste illegally, it may be more at risk, legally and financially; that, in turn, may impact its potential for growth. Investing in that company may pose a risk to our goal of maximizing returns for shareholders over time. “S” is found in our commitment to micro-finance that supports businesses owned by women and people of color, or in the dedicated time off provided to employees volunteering in their communities. “G,” in turn, refers not just to transparency in record keeping, but in our promise to build an inclusive leadership team.

“When it comes to investing, there are a lot of factors that figure into an analysis,” says Syd del Cid, senior ESG research analyst for Principal Asset ManagementSM. “Those ESG factors are another way of thinking about how to mitigate risk and maximize return in a holistic way. It’s additional information that’s material to help make those investment choices.”

External recognition of responsibility

All sorts of awards aim to help people substantiate the responsibility claims that companies make. But are they reliable or even relevant? One of the more well-known is the Newsweek list of America’s Most Responsible Companies.

The Newsweek ranking reviews a whole assemblage of data: sustainability and corporate social responsibility reports, a survey asking U.S. citizens about perceptions, and financial report information, to name just a few. The final list of 500 gives a nod to the most responsible companies in the United States, representing 14 industries.

In 2023, Principal made notable progress on this list: Not only did it move up from the 334th position in 2022 to 79th in 2023, but it also moved up 20 spots in its industry and was the highest-ranking investment company on the list.

The Newsweek award is just one step along a continuous journey for Principal: Create more solutions for greater financial inclusion so more people can create their own version of financial security. That includes everything from external efforts like the 2022 launch of the Global Financial Inclusion Index to public promises like our 2020 commitment to double support of small businesses owned by women and people of color by 2025.

“Helping our customers build a strong financial future while increasing financial inclusion within communities worldwide is important work we are deeply passionate about,” Houston says.
