Global energy security and climate goals are parts of the same sentence—and American natural gas exports are the action verb.

Today, the Energy Futures Initiative, led by former U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, released a report in Washington, DC entitled The Role of U.S. Natural Gas Exports in a Low-Carbon World, highlighting the opportunity for additional growth in what is already a booming U.S. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export industry.

“Two unprecedented events—the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—have severely disrupted global energy markets. Countries, mainly in Europe but also throughout the world, have struggled to deal with the ensuing shocks to their energy supplies,” reads the report. “At the same time, the threat of climate change remains, and demands that energy solutions address both energy security and deep decarbonization goals.”

Natural gas, a cleaner alternative than other conventional energy sources, “can help countries meet both energy security needs and decarbonization goals,” adds the report. “As the world’s biggest natural gas exporter, the United States plays a crucial role in helping countries address both goals on a global scale.”

At Enbridge, we also believe that natural gas is key to society’s transition to a cleaner energy future by:

displacing coal in power generation.backstopping the intermittency of renewables.contributing to a lower-carbon footprint.

“Natural gas is essential to a clean, reliable and affordable energy future,” Enbridge President and CEO Greg Ebel said last month at our 2023 Enbridge Day event for the investment community. “LNG is the best way to enhance energy security and reduce emissions, and we’re obligated to share our abundance in North America with the world.”

Enbridge’s vast, cross-continent natural gas pipeline network currently supplies 15% of LNG export capacity on the Gulf Coast, through our assets like the Texas Eastern Transmission, Valley Crossing and Brazoria Interconnector Gas (BIG) pipelines, and our recent acquisition of the Tres Palacios Gas Storage facility.

With some forecasts predicting Gulf Coast LNG exports to double in the next decade, Enbridge expects to be responsible for 30% of those exports by 2030, through projects such as the Gator Express Meter Project and the Venice Extension Project.

“In 2022, the U.S. had more LNG export capacity than any other country, and led the world in LNG export. Location matters,” noted Enbridge’s Cynthia Hansen, Executive Vice President and President of our Gas Transmission and Midstream business, at last month’s Enbridge Day event.

“We are fortunate to have an abundance of high-quality, low-cost natural gas reserves in North America,” she added. “We have an obligation to send energy to our allies around the world where it’s needed the most to help ensure safe, secure, stable supply; enable progress; and reduce global emissions.”

The Role of U.S. Natural Gas Exports in a Low-Carbon World report was sponsored in part by Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future, of which Enbridge is a member.

What’s your story? Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to join GoDaddy?

I joined GoDaddy in February 2021, I was moving to Nottingham and saw a job advertised for the company. I have previously worked in contact centers and had worked sales focused roles as well as having a big personal interest in technology and computing. I loved the idea of working for such a prominent name in the internet industry — so I applied. The training for the role was great and I excelled, which supervisors took notice of. Before the end of training, I had the opportunity to join the specialty inbound team. With this transition, I received extra training, allowing me to go more in depth on the products and services we supported, provided the chance to learn, develop and increase my knowledge, which I greatly appreciated. When working on specialty, I was a high performing Guide who lived the GoDaddy values and provided excellent results for the business and our customers. This led to me being chosen to support our newly hired Guides throughout their training periods. Later in 2021, I also did further development towards being a supervisor for our department. I had the opportunity to support teams for short periods who were without a leader. I really enjoyed this opportunity to further mature a different set of skills. Rather than developing myself, I was helping raise our team up and encouraging their development. This was very rewarding in itself. Following on from the short stints as acting supervisor, my own team’s leader was off for a longer duration and I then acted as leader of my team for around 3 months. During this time, I applied for a role within GoDaddy as an intern for the Internal Tech Support Team. I was ecstatic to get this as only one position was available at the time. Working within the internship progressed me to being hired on full-time at GoDaddy, within my current position as a System Engineer I.

What has been your favorite role/responsibilities?

I really enjoy my current role within GoDaddy as a System Engineer on the GET Help Team. This role is varied and I wear many hats, from helping to relaunch our sites following the relaxing of pandemic era rules, to solving technical incidents for the entire GoDaddy team, as well as helping prepare equipment for new members of the team. I love the autonomy of my position and being able to support our company in varied ways whilst providing a world class experience, whether they have just started here, or been with us a decade.

What’s the most challenging yet rewarding thing you’ve worked on at GoDaddy?

I’ve been fortunate to be a part of multiple challenging projects during my tenure. However, my favorite would have to be when when Beeston hosted the global leadership team for its 3rd birthday celebrations. I had the opportunity to meet Aman Bhutani (CEO), Monica Bailey (CPO), and Auguste Goldman (President of Care and Services). There were challenges in preparation to ensure all of the required technical elements on site where functioning as intended. This was a very satisfying project and on the day=of, being able to have pride in our hard work functioning as intended and being recognised for this was great.

You’ve been able to grow a career, here at GoDaddy. What makes you stay?

Within GoDaddy, even from the very start, you are reminded that not all progression necessarily has to be vertical. You are encouraged to grow and develop through horizontal progression, as well. If you find that you wish to pursue a certain direction that’s not within your current department, you can find a way to work towards that in a supportive environment.

How have you and the team stayed successful and collaborated whilst working remotely?

In all my roles within GoDaddy, I have worked at least partially remote. When working as a Specialty Guide, engaging well with those on my team was a key part of encouraging collaboration between parties. For instance, when having team meetings or daily huddles, we would actively engage with those that you work with by offering guidance to one another and sharing experiences. This really helps bridge the gap when working remotely.

What does Internal Mobility mean to you?

To me, I think it’s important that companies offer the opportunity for staff to develop in ways which are beneficial not just to the company in the immediate term, but also consider development in the long term. If you wish to pursue a different avenue from your current work and can do this without having a negative impact on your current role, companies should encourage this.

If you had to describe the #GoDaddyLife in three words, what would they be and why?

I think GoDaddy to me represents Development, Autonomy, and Excellence. They give staff and customers the opportunity to develop, whether this be their business, their knowledge, skills or future prospects. They work hard to give their customers autonomy in life through supporting entrepreneurs and allow staff autonomy in doing what’s best for their customers or within their job functions. To me, excellence is part of GoDaddy’s DNA — the largest domain registrar in the world that is constantly striving to improve and earn their position as market leader. This translates into staff who are always developing to be the best in their industry, whether this is customer service or software development.

What’s your motto or personal mantra?

My personal mantra is to approach anything with an open mind and constantly push myself. I like to experience new things and take on new challenges which helps me to stay at the top of my game.

Outside of benefits and pay, why should job seekers join GoDaddy?

Companies often talk about culture, but within GoDaddy, we have lots of interconnected groups of like-minded individuals who are sharing their experiences, success and challenges. You are encouraged but not forced to be a part of this with opportunities to volunteer within your community and meet with resource groups that maybe share a passion or face the same difficulties as you. To me, this is what good company culture represents and one of the unwritten benefits you can’t put a price on.

If you could pick one theme for GoDaddy to turn into a book or movie, what would it be?

I would love to know more about the early dot com bubble and subsequent burst. GoDaddy was a key company through all of this and I am sure there are many interesting stories that weave together! I think looking back, we would find some of the companies and ideas a bit ridiculous, in hindsight, but that’s the appeal to me.

How has GoDaddy helped you grow as an individual?

The biggest way GoDaddy has helped me grow is by allowing me to realize that a career in the tech and computing industry was the right choice for me. I had wanted to pursue this when I left school at age 16, but was not able to do so and everything went on hold. Since joining the GET Help team, I have been able to earn certifications, develop my skills massively, and I now attend university part time studying computer science. I would never have had the clarity to do this before joining GoDaddy.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy raising my toddler daughter with my partner Lauren. I am an avid cyclist (not in the terrible British winter however)! I also enjoy being outdoors, hiking and bouldering. I look forward to the summer and being able to take my daughter to the peak district, not too far from Nottingham, to show her the hills and mountains for the first time.

With support from Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay refinery, Texas City Independent School District broke ground on its new state-of-the-art robotics center. In 2022, Marathon announced a multi-year investment to help the school system purchase equipment and supplies to support the new center. The school system, which serves nearly 8,000 students, will use the STEM-focused center to advance its programming in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

With a ceremonial flip of the dirt, the future home to Texas City Independent School District’s (TCISD) award-winning robotics club is underway. The groundbreaking event, held on April 10, gave way to the much-anticipated center.

In the spring of 2022, Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay refinery committed a multi-year investment in the project through TCISD’s Foundation for the Future, which collaborates with the community and the school district to generate and distribute resources to enrich, maintain and expand TCISD programs.

“This will be a first-of-its-kind of facility here in Texas City, and our partnership with Marathon helped make this day possible,” said Dr. Melissa Duarte, TCISD Superintendent of Schools.

The state-of-the-art facility aims to broaden robotics education across the school system, which serves nearly 8,000 students in La Marque and Texas City and will provide greater access to STEM-focused careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“Together we succeed,” said Dave Leaver, Vice President of Refining at the Galveston Bay refinery, as he kicked off his remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony. “Does that sound familiar? It’s TCISD’s vision, and today we’re seeing this vision become a reality through our shared desire to enhance robotics education for our community’s youth.”

Leaver added that Marathon’s gift, which will go toward the purchase of robotics equipment and materials at the facility, will not only support the school’s vision of advancing its robotics programming but will also provide new opportunities that support today’s students becoming tomorrow’s leaders.

“Because of this, Marathon is proud to support this important initiative, and we are thankful for our partnership and to be a part of this milestone at TCISD,” Leaver said.

Construction of the facility, with its official name, TCISD Marathon STEM/Robotics Center, is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

U.S. Bank has launched a new Business Diversity Lending Program that provides credit and financing to help women-, minority-, and veteran-owned businesses grow and thrive.

The program expands opportunity for a vital portion of the business community and aligns with U.S. Bank Access Commitment™, a long-term approach focused on helping communities of color build wealth. To learn more about the Business Diversity Lending Program, we talked with Mary Miklethun, Head of Business Segment Strategy Coordination & Support at U.S. Bank.

How did the U.S. Bank Business Diversity Lending program get its start?

The U.S. Bank Business Diversity Lending Program is a type of special purpose credit program, or SPCP, permitted by the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA). These programs are specifically designed to improve access to capital for members of economically disadvantaged classes.

Last year, U.S. Bank acquired MUFG Union Bank, which was a pioneer in implementing a Special Purpose Credit Program 30 years ago. Now we are expanding this Business Diversity Lending Program to U.S. Bank customers. It’s a great example of how both banks are learning from each other to enhance the experience for all of our customers.

How does the Business Diversity Lending program work?

The program is an overlay to our traditional loans and lines of credit, allowing for modified credit guidelines that enable more business owners to access the capital they need to run their business. Through the program, women-, minority- and veteran-owned businesses are eligible for reduced credit score and decreased cash flow coverage requirements on most conventional lending products up to $2.5 million. Small businesses are eligible if they are at least fifty-one percent owned and operated by one or more individuals who self-identify as a woman, minority, and/or veteran.

Where is this program available?

The program is available throughout U.S. Bank’s retail footprint. Both new and existing customers are eligible for the program.

How do businesses apply?

Businesses can apply in-person with a banker or online. Customers go through a self-identification process for program eligibility at the time of application.

What other steps is U.S. Bank taking to support diverse businesses?

In 2021, we announced U.S. Bank Access Commitment, our long-term approach to help build wealth, close the racial wealth gap, redefine how we serve diverse communities and provide more opportunities for diverse employees. As part of this commitment, we launched our Access Business initiative that same year to support diverse businesses, starting with the Black community.

In nine cities, we have hired Business Access Advisers (BAA), who provide information, connections and resources to help diverse small business owners sustain and grow their businesses. We plan to expand the team this year, including resources to extend our reach into Hispanic communities. Our BAAs are all knowledgeable about the Business Diversity Lending Program and can help customers interested in applying.

Lara Skripitsky is on a mission to empower women in technology.

From a young age, Lara always “had an appetite for innovation and an interest in the emerging world of technology.” Fast forward to 2022, Lara is now the Vice President, Chief Technology and Operations Support Officer of McDonald’s Canada, and Co-chair of McDonald’s Global Women in Technology (GWIT).

From a liberal arts degree to a tech career

Lara’s path to becoming a technology leader may be surprising to some. She graduated from Queens University with a Women’s Studies and English degree, followed by an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. After a role in CPG marketing, she followed her passion for the internet and transformation, working at several companies to help shape their digital strategy, including launching Canada’s first online streaming service.

She joined McDonald’s as Director of Digital in 2015. Lara didn’t expect to land a career in technology because she didn’t have formal tech training. As part of her mission to bring more women into the field, she is actively trying to dispel the misconception that you need a STEM background to break into the industry.

“There’s often this notion that ‘Oh I don’t have experience’ or ‘I don’t have a STEM background,’ she says. “For example, in McDonald’s Canada, we’ve brought on folks from the operations team who have no experience in technology but have become outstanding team members. Don’t say no because you don’t think you have the qualifications,” she says.

Lara’s career in technology has been fulfilling. She’s helped to transform customer and crew experiences with digital and technical innovations.

“It’s exciting to drive positive change,” she says. “To enhance convenience, we’re integrating a new feature where customers can earn loyalty points, order, and pay for delivery within the McDonald’s app. It was a huge win for the team, and technology was at the core of this cross-functional effort.”

Using her platform

Since joining McDonald’s Canada, Lara has used her platform to support women in the tech industry. One of her proudest achievements was co-founding McDonald’s Global Women in Technology (GWIT)—an internal employee business network focused on uplifting and empowering women technologists across McDonald’s Global Technology and beyond.

“GWIT has been my passion project. We started as a group in Canada just before the pandemic hit in 2019,” she says. It has been gratifying to see how this network has been embraced. So many people have put their hands up and done fantastic work.”

Among other things, GWIT engages with the women in the technology community at McDonald’s through a speaker series featuring female tech leaders, growth circles offering mentorship, and an ongoing male allies initiative.

Despite technology being a historically male-dominated field, Lara has noticed more female leaders emerging at McDonald’s.

“When I look at my team today, I have a powerful group of female leaders in the Canadian technology organization,” she says.

“McDonald’s is committed to developing female technologists as business leaders. Technology sits at the heart of everything we do, and our future leaders will need to understand technology as a fundamental discipline.”

Opening doors for future female leaders

Outside of GWIT, Lara encourages everyone to help build female leaders in technology and break barriers for women in the industry.

“I think mentoring plays a key role. Many seasoned professionals have benefitted from mentors themselves, so paying it forward and helping somebody shape their career plan and path is important,” she says.

“Additionally, celebrating the success of female technologists by bringing forward their accomplishments and recognizing them is critical. We also need a very thoughtful approach when building teams and organizations and keeping a keen eye on diversity.”

Lara also shared her advice for women looking to start their careers in technology.

“Take a leap of faith. Being curious and having an appetite for learning can help you break into technology. Look for what interests you, where you think you have growth potential, and roll up your sleeves and jump in feet first.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 4, 2023 /3BL Media/ – The Chemours Company (“Chemours”) (NYSE: CC), a global chemistry company, and Louisville-based Farnsley Middle School today announced a partnership through the company’s Chemours Future of Engineering, Science, Trades, and Technology (ChemFEST) program, to promote early engagement in STEM education in the Louisville community.

The ChemFEST school partnership program is a company-wide effort, designed to champion change toward a more diverse science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce. Through ChemFEST, Chemours is investing in under-resourced middle schools in its footprint communities around the world to ensure that younger students are exposed to STEM education early on. This is critical as research shows that proficiency and interest in STEM are most influential when initiated before students reach high school and begin choosing their courses, and there will be more than 800,000 job openings in STEM-related fields over the next 20 years.

Farnsley Middle School is a Math, Science, and Technology Magnet school that provides a safe environment and encourages lifelong student success. Farnsley is one of the first schools to offer Explore Pathways, a middle school initiative in Jefferson County schools to help students explore different fields and study areas in an engaging, hands-on way to prepare them for their futures.

The ChemFEST school partnership model allows for customization to meet the needs of each partner school and local community. In Louisville, the partnership will support 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in Farnsley’s Engineering & Design Explore Pathway, as well as 6th grade students enrolled in the Engineering & Design pathway rotation. Chemours will engage with students in a variety of ways throughout the year, including STEM showcases, after-school events, mentorship programs, science fairs, and more.

On Wednesday, April 12, Farnsley hosted a contract signing celebration with Chemours. During the event, Explore Pathways student ambassadors spoke with members of the Chemours Louisville Works team and Farnsley administrators and educators. The group discussed the importance of inclusion and diversity in STEM professions, how to determine a career path, making the most of the ChemFEST partnership, and more.

“It was great to collaborate with the Explore Pathway student ambassadors and see the excitement among these young and diverse students in STEM education—exactly what we are working to drive through our ChemFEST Program. One part of our discussion that especially resonated with me was the importance of being able to see yourself in the career you want to pursue. It helps you visualize the possibility when you can see someone that looks like you,” reflected Ginilia Watson, Chemours Louisville Works Operations Staff Supervisor and ChemFEST Chair. “This kind of representation is incredibly important in marginalized communities – especially as it pertains to increasing diversity in STEM.”

“Farnsley staff members are excited to begin this partnership to provide real world STEM experiences for our students,” shared Farnsley Middle School Explore Pathways Coach, Charita Kimbrough.

All ChemFEST programs include multi-year financial support as part of Chemours’ Corporate Responsibility Commitment goal to invest $50 million to create and sustain vibrant communities. The time, talent, financial resources, and expertise of Chemours and its employees will be used to help meet each school’s needs with the goal of engaging and inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals.
