Utah, June 15, 2023 /3BL Media/ – KeyBank recently commemorated the one-year anniversary of its American Fork branch – the company’s first new branch in the Western half of the U.S. in more than a decade. The celebration included a networking event with the branch’s business clients and the American Fork Chamber of Commerce, as well as a $10,000 donation to the Five.12 Foundation.

“We’ve had a great first year in American Fork,” said Drew Yergensen, KeyBank Utah market president and commercial banking leader. “We have really enjoyed meeting and working more closely with our new neighbors, clients and community partners, and we look forward to strengthening those relationships even further in the coming years.”

The American Fork branch highlights KeyBank’s state-of-the-art financial wellness center model, which is staffed with financial wellness consultants rather than a traditional teller line. All transactions are completed at desks, where consultants also conduct comprehensive financial wellness reviews and discussions. Clients can also meet with specialists in mortgage, investments, business banking and more at the location.

The branch features digital video screens and a client hospitality space that also serves as an area for financial seminars and group presentations with clients and the public, as well as a drive-up teller line, ATM and complimentary parking. In addition to helping individuals and families achieve their financial goals, the branch also serves clients seeking to develop and grow businesses in the area.

“We are here to help the community of American Fork with all of their banking and small business needs,” said Jason Scorup, KeyBank American Fork branch manager. “We also take pride in the positive impact we’ve had by giving back to community partners like the Five.12 Foundation, and we look forward to building even more community partnerships in and around American Fork.”

Based in Alpine, Utah, the Five.12 Foundation organizes and distributes weekend food bags to students in need at four American Fork elementary schools, including Greenwood, Forbes, Barratt and Shelley.

The full-service branch is located at 717 West Main in American Fork, directly off of the 278 exit from I-15.

Get to know Abiman Rajadurai, an esteemed member of McDonald’s Legal Department and Vice Chair of McDonald’s Asia Pacific Middle East Network (APMEN).

Abiman joined McDonald’s in 2017 believing its size would enable him to effect major change. Now, he considers himself “truly blessed” for the opportunity to work cross-functionally with people throughout the McDonald’s system on a daily basis.

“I love how we all work together to make the customer experience the best it can be,” he says.

The Journey to a Job at McDonald’s

Abiman was born in India and emigrated with his family to the United States at age 2. As a kid, his family moved around the Midwest a few times before settling in Michigan. “I think moving so much made me much more social and adaptable to change,” Abiman explains.

As it happens, Abiman was a big fan of legal television dramas growing up. “I wanted to be a lawyer back when I was 5 or 6 years old,” he laughs. After college – where he met his now wife – Abiman did end up enrolling in law school, where he discovered his passion for employment law during a summer internship.

“I enjoyed how much employment law touches on peoples’ issues, and how you can see the impact of your work right away,” he says.

In 2014, Abiman interviewed for a role on his current team but didn’t get the job. He enjoyed the process and hoped he would have another opportunity down the road. In 2017, Abiman unexpectedly received an email from Rafael Medina, an attorney who had met him during the 2014 process, asking if he was still interested in joining McDonald’s global labor and employment team. The answer was an unequivocal “yes.”

Since joining McDonald’s, Abiman has ascended to the role of General Counsel for McDonald’s Operating Company (McOpCo) – the company-owned restaurants in the United States. Every day, his north star is helping ensure McDonald’s guests receive a fabulous customer experience when they interact with our restaurants.

“In order to give customers the best experience, we have to give employees the best experience,” he says. “After all, they’re the touch point for McDonald’s billions served.”

Making a Difference Beyond McDonald’s

Abiman’s passions extend beyond his legal work impacting McDonald’s business. During his first year at McDonald’s, Abiman joined McDonald’s Asia Pacific Middle East Network (APMEN). By 2019, he’d been named Co-Chair for the McDonald’s Headquarters (MHQ) chapter, and in December 2022, he was appointed Vice Chair for the global APMEN network.

“I take my role with APMEN very seriously,” Abiman says. “I know I and our members find support and inspiration in the network, and it’s important to me that everyone feels included.”

Abiman is also active on the legal department’s Pro Bono Committee as well as its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and sits on the boards of local nonprofits. “I’m passionate about giving people chances and opportunities that they might otherwise not get,” he says.

One thing he loves and appreciates is that, “everyone has a McDonald’s story.”

“I vividly remember being so excited to get my Chicken McNuggets growing up,” he says. “It’s so cool to be here 30+ years later and create those same moments and opportunities for other people around the world.”

Hispanic inclusion rates on Fortune 500 boards increased imperceptibly in the past two years, according to the 7th edition Missing Pieces report: A board diversity census of women and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups on Fortune 500 boards. The report was released today by the Alliance for Board Diversity (ABD). The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility is one of four leadership organizations that comprise the ABD. The other three are Catalyst, The Executive Leadership Council, and Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics. Diversified Search serves as an advisor. These groups share the goal of advancing the inclusion of women and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups on corporate boards. In collaboration with Deloitte, the ABD conducts bi-annual research to assess the status of board diversity.

Hispanic board representation has remained relatively flat since 2004. By 2060, the Hispanic population will be almost 30% of the nation’s population, yet fewer than five percent of corporate board positions are held by Hispanics.

“There’s enormous potential for Corporate America to diminish the gap between Hispanic representation and population size,” said Cid Wilson, President & CEO of HACR. “This lack of representation is a missed opportunity for companies to drive greater innovation and business growth for an influential global economic force, as we are the fifth largest economy in the world.”

The report is the culmination of research into board participation on Fortune 500 boards in 2022. The members of the ABD have collaborated on this bi-annual research since 2004. In addition to statistics on Hispanic inclusion, the report includes data on racial and ethnic groups by gender and looks at overall female inclusion on corporate boards. It also takes a deep dive into participation and leadership on board committees. Here are some high-level statistics on Latino participation specifically.

In 2021, Hispanic buying power was 1.9 trillion, up 87 percent since 2010.In 2022, Hispanics made up 18.4 percent of the population, but only 4.7 percent of Fortune 500 board seats. The rate of Hispanic inclusion on Fortune 100 boards was only slightly higher than the Fortune 500 inclusion rate at 4.9 percent. This was consistent with an overall higher inclusion rate for underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and all women on Fortune 100 companies compared to all companies listed in the Fortune 500.In 2022, Latinas represented 1.2 percent of Fortune 500 seats, up from 1.0 percent in 2020.

“HACR will continue to urge companies to make greater progress on Hispanic board representation and Hispanic inclusion overall in Corporate America,” concluded Wilson.

IWBI was recently recognized for Best DE&I for Mental Health Strategy, through development of the WELL Equity Rating, by the InsideOut Awards, a UK-based initiative that honors organizations focused on the mental health agenda at work. This category honors the employer who has best supported the mental health of diverse groups in the workplace via their diversity, equity and inclusion strategy.

“Our goal is to help close the equity gap by giving companies a roadmap to address disparities and support mental health,” said Kimberly Lewis Inkumsah, Executive Vice President of Equity, Engagement and Events. “We’re proud that the InsideOut Awards have recognized the WELL Equity Rating as a practical framework to empower organizations to action diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.”

She continued, “Corporations are uniquely positioned to address both systemic and institutional inequities, and it is imperative for us as business leaders to not only carry empathy for these complex issues, but also drive progress through intentional action. The WELL Equity Rating offers strategies to help organizations measure ways to build a culture of trust and belonging. Measured progress will reveal true leadership!”

The InsideOut Awards are an annual celebration of our mental health at work and those individuals and organizations who champion it. Its 20 categories celebrate individual leaders and organizations, both large and small, across industries in the UK and Europe – showcasing leadership, innovation and best practice in focusing on the workplace mental health agenda. The program is administered by Wellbeing at Work, which empowers organizations to make well-being a strategic priority through community, connection and knowledge.

Developed by IWBI, the WELL Equity Rating is a roadmap for organizations to set, achieve and report on goals that elevate justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in driving health equity. The rating offers organizations an actionable framework to improve access to health and well-being, celebrate diversity, prioritize inclusivity and promote sensitivity while addressing disparities in populations that have been traditionally marginalized and underrepresented, including those who are neurodiverse. The WELL Equity Rating helps address the inequity of health and well-being among all people at the global level so that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible, physically and mentally. The WELL Equity Rating was launched in late 2022 with 30 early adopters signing on to pursue the rating.

This is the third year in which the InsideOut Awards have recognized IWBI. In 2022, IWBI was selected as Employer Initiative of the Year, as well as People Leader of the Year, for its President and CEO Rachel Hodgdon. In 2020-21, IWBI was awarded the Third Party Influence Award, which was presented to the employer who has best influenced mental health beyond its own walls, for example down the supply chain or into their client base.

PHILADELPHIA, June 14, 2023 /3BL Media/ – For the 10th consecutive year, Points of Light has named Comcast NBCUniversal to The Civic 50, which recognizes the 50 most community-minded companies in the United States. Comcast NBCUniversal is one of only a small number of companies that have consistently achieved such high marks in the program’s 11-year history.

“Commitment to community has always been a core value at Comcast,” said Dalila Wilson-Scott, EVP and Chief Diversity Officer, Comcast Corporation and President, Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation. “I’m proud of the longstanding community investment and support that has earned us The Civic 50 honor, and I’m grateful to our incredible partners and employees for all they do in our communities every day.”

Comcast NBCUniversal’s work to help create a better, more equitable world includes our fully allocated $100 million pledge to advance social justice and equality, and Project UP, our $1 billion initiative to connect people to the Internet, invest in access to digital skills, and strengthen pathways to economic mobility.

Through Project UP, in 2022 we surpassed our goal of opening over 1,250 Lift Zones, which provide free WiFi in neighborhood centers; scaled a nationwide network of Digital Navigators ─ trusted community members who help people learn how to use technology and access available resources; and supported 13,000 underrepresented small businesses hard hit by the pandemic through Comcast RISE, providing more than $110 million in monetary, marketing, and technology grants.

Comcast teammates also contribute to communities through Team UP, our year-round volunteerism and employee engagement program. The program allows employees to serve, give (including a dollar-for-dollar through the Comcast NBCUniversal Matching Gift Program), and grow through board service 365 days a year. Since launching in 2022, more than 8,600 Comcast teammates have participated in Team UP activities, donated $5.6 million through the Matching Gift program, and supported 5,800 organizations.

The Civic 50 is an initiative of Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. Determined by an annual survey, the list serves as benchmarking tool and platform for sharing best practices in the corporate citizenship sector.

We can’t do it alone. The scale of the challenge is too big – and the stakes are too immense – the issue is too complex – for any one company, one organization or even one country to solve this issue.

Later this month, negotiators from 160 countries will meet in Paris to continue work on creating an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution. Called the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC), these meetings – which will stretch over the next two years – will play a significant role in shaping how plastics are produced, designed, used, and ultimately managed.

We at Dow – along with many others across industry, governments, and NGOs – support this work and believe such an agreement could help end plastics pollution by accelerating the transition to a circular economy. We all believe in a future where plastics are sustainably produced, designed, used, reused, and recycled, thereby creating new value and greater purpose for plastic waste. In doing so, we will also be able to preserve a critical link in securing a low-carbon economy.

Why Plastic is Important

To understand why these negotiations are so critical, we also need to understand why plastic itself is so important. Without plastic, how would we preserve food and water for people in remote locations? How would we maintain hygiene practices in healthcare?

Plastic not only plays a vital role in life as we know it and our economy, it is also an essential part of our journey toward a low-carbon and circular future. In fact, we can’t deliver a low-carbon future without plastics.

Plastics offer 2x lower greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint than alternative materials such as metal, glass, or paper. Continued growth in line with GDP through 2050 avoids incremental annual GHG emissions of ~1 GT, equivalent to all current air travel globally.Plastics enable innovation in 30% of the global economy across sectors like construction, medical, transportation, and food safety. These plastics are so effective and sustainable, there are very limited substitutes for more than half of these applications.Plastics make quality of life better, particularly throughout the food supply chain.Plastics help lighten vehicle weight. A 10% reduction in the weight of a vehicle can result in a 6-8% increase in fuel economy and extend the range of electric vehicles (EVs).Plastics in the medical industry keep equipment and devices sterile and played a key role in pandemic response.Plastics are integral to manufacturing solar panels, wind blades or EVs.

The Scale of the Challenge

The challenge we all face, however, is how we manage plastics waste. Much of the plastic used around the world goes unrecovered after use and today very little that can be recycled is recycled. North America, for example, has a plastic recycling rate of only 11 percent, the lowest regional recycling rate in the world. China and SE Asia recycle plastics at a 20 percent rate, developed Asia is at 26 percent, and Western Europe is at 32 percent.1

Not all countries are starting their efforts to solve the problem from the same spot. Many developing countries, for instance, are struggling with inadequate recycling infrastructure for ALL materials while others – due to political or economic instability – lack the capacity to enact national policies.

Poorly managed plastic waste not only denies us a valuable recycling resource, but it can also contribute to environmental and ecological challenges.

How We All Win

Many organizations – including Dow – have significantly increased their work to end plastic waste and accelerate a more circular economy. Dow has more than 20 active partnerships, for example, and has deep commitments to help solve this issue and deliver circular economy solutions. As part of our sustainability targets, for instance, we intend to transform the waste to deliver three million metric tons per year of circular and renewable solutions by 2030.

Dow has been innovating solutions to enable packaging recyclability and partnering to build materials ecosystems to increase the value of waste and build new systems to collect, reuse, and recycle waste. This in turn will allow us to scale our ability to produce circular and low-carbon emission solutions.

But we can’t do it alone. The scale of the challenge is too big – the stakes are too immense – the issue is too complex – for any one company, one organization or even one country to solve this issue.

It Takes All of Us

In our view, the world needs an effective and implementable agreement that supports the national implementation of ambitious and realistic targets. A Global Plastics agreement – if constructed well – offers the world a unique opportunity to build a more effective circular economy and stop plastic pollution while also recognizing the valuable role plastic plays in creating a low-carbon future.

An effective agreement would:

Incentivize investments that enhance and improve waste management capabilities – many governments around the world need help developing and funding national waste management plans that would effectively collect, sort, and recycle waste – including plastics – and generally improve municipal solid waste management. National plans should include individual targets, rates and dates, as well as monitoring and progress reports, and should evolve over time.Advance enabling policies and actions to minimize waste and divert more plastics into a circular economy – an effective agreement will harmonize definitions and metrics around the globe, helping countries enact more effective and measurable targets.Recognize essential applications of plastic and its contributions to reducing carbon emissions and achieving the UN SDGs – Dow believes there is a path forward to create a circular economy for plastics and end leakage into the environment, while continuing to preserve the essential benefits this lightweight and efficient material offers, including food waste prevention, sterile vaccine distribution, clean drinking water transportation, energy efficient buildings, solar and wind power generation, and EVs.

We can do this. Working across the value chain – working collaboratively – working in tandem with our many stakeholders – I’m confident we can develop an international agreement that both recognizes the many societal benefits of plastic while also creating a robust future where plastics are sustainably produced, designed, used, reused, and recycled in a circular economy.

Leidos has joined the fight against adolescent suicide and depression, a growing public health crisis in America.

Why you should know: May was Mental Health Awareness Month, and many organizations including Leidos were stepping up efforts to make a difference surrounding the teenage mental health crisis.

The data says: According to the most recent data, intentional self-harm is the third-leading cause of death among teenagers, behind only homicide and unintentional injury.

Earlier this year, the CDC published results from its annual Youth Risky Behavior Survey, which showed teen girls and teens who identify as LGBTQ+ are experiencing unprecedented levels of mental distress:

“More than 1 in 4 girls reported they seriously considered attempting suicide in 2021, up significantly from 2011,” the report states. “More than 1 in 10 girls reported they attempted suicide in 2021, also increasing significantly over the decade.””In 2021, almost half of LGBTQ+ students seriously considered attempting suicide, nearly 1 in 4 attempted suicides, and nearly 3 in 14 reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.”

“There is a mental health crisis in America as millions are seeking help,” says Dr. Christianne Esposito-Smythers, Professor of Psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. “The system is overwhelmed with patients having limited options and experiencing long waits in addition to high costs, insufficient insurance coverage and limited information about available services.”

Leidos impact: Leidos supports a number of causes related to teenage depression as part of its Mission for the Mind campaign:

Leidos is a Presenting Sponsor for all four of this year’s National Capital Area Out of the Darkness Walks, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (ASFP).The company has partnered with EVERFI to bring digital mental health and wellness education to middle school and high school students across West Virginia and Maryland.Leidos supports the Women’s Center, which provides free and reduced cost support for mental health and domestic violence. The Women’s Center recently launched a teenage resiliency program, which over the past year has provided nearly 350 adolescents with nearly 4,000 hours of trauma mental health counseling.Leidos supports GMU’s Center for Psychological Studies which provides accessible mental health services and helps train the next generation of therapists.Leidos supports the National Military Family Association (NMFA) and its Operation Purple Camps designed to help support the mental well-being of military children by giving them a free week of camp to connect with other military kids.

Leidos hosted a number of activities this month in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

The company hosted a screening and discussion of the new film, “Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness.” Presented by legendary documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, the film explores the challenges of youth mental illness in the U.S. and features stories from more than 20 young people who live with mental health conditions.

Leidos will present “Mission Critical: Prioritizing Mental Health for Military Service Members and their Families,” a panel discussion about the challenges of delivering and accessing mental health resources for military servicemembers and their families.

Most importantly: If you’re having suicidal thoughts, there are people who want to help you. You can speak to someone at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK). You can also find help from the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. If you’re a veteran in crisis, please contact the Veterans Crisis Line.

“Remember, you’re not alone,” says Dr. Robyn Mehlenbeck, a clinical psychologist at George Mason. “There’s support available for both teenagers and their families. By prioritizing mental health throughout the year, we can create a more supportive environment for the younger generation, ensuring they receive the care they need.”

Please contact the Leidos media relations team for more information.
