This year, if needed, our mobile command center is ready to assist in restoration efforts should a tropical system hit our area. The response vehicle can operate at or near the most impacted location a disaster area, with satellite-based communications equipment giving our operations personnel a link to the outside world when oftentimes such capabilities have been knocked offline.

The mobile command center has seen field testing earlier this year following tornadoes in Mississippi and severe weather in Texas. Now, with the peak of hurricane season upon us, this mobile information-gathering platform is standing by to travel to impact zones just as soon as the winds of a landfalling storm pass through and it’s safe to begin supporting restoration efforts.

Now you may be wondering: “Schools have Wi-Fi, so why is 5G needed?”

When implementing XR learning programs with thousands of schools in small towns and urban areas across the country, our partners found that school Wi-Fi systems sometimes can’t handle the requirements needed to reliably run XR programs. Here’s how the companies we are working with are helping students engage with new technologies and STEM education leveraging 5G:

Kai XR

We started working with Kai XR in 2021 when they joined the T-Mobile Accelerator program, a yearly developer cohort aimed at driving innovation with support from T-Mobile engineers and 5G connectivity.

Recently, Kai XR worked with Harris County Juvenile Detention Center in Texas to provide students with educational learning objectives using T-Mobile 5G connected devices to improve digital literacy, demystify in-demand technologies like XR, provide hands-on opportunities with emerging tech and decrease recidivism for students in the center through exposure to career pathways.

Two hundred students completed the program, with 84% expressing interest in learning more about the metaverse and advanced and emerging technologies and 95% expressing interest in a metaverse career.

Kai XR is active in schools in Georgia, California and Alabama reaching thousands of students with its learning platform. 

VictoryXR

A 2022 T-Mobile Accelerator participant, VictoryXR is active in 135 schools across the country, with 90 unique courses taught at higher education institutions. VictoryXR uses its platform to create virtual classrooms, campuses and laboratories using AR and VR headsets connected to T-Mobile 5G to provide students with unique learning environments they might otherwise not have access to.

With its virtual environments VictoryXR covers topics such as history, anatomy, chemistry and biology, opening the door for students to collaborate together in near real-time, whether that be on a virtual field trip to Egypt or analyzing a cadaver, VictoryXR paired with 5G enables entirely new classroom experiences.

Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy

Using the VeyeZER™ GRAPH application for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device, the Barbara Bush Foundation is pilot testing a somewhat different approach to XR learning. This solution seeks to improve adult literacy by performing a series of reading skill assessments, tracking eye movement and compiling statistics to allow practitioners to create customized learning programs for participants to improve their literacy, once again leveraging 5G to maintain low-latency and reliable connectivity.

After pilot testing the solution with adult learners at sites in Charleston, South Carolina and Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Foundation’s team—led by researchers from the University of New Mexico—has determined that this technology shows great promise. With additional refinement, it has the potential to equip educators with rapid, high-frequency access to critical, personalized data that will help learners increase their literacy levels, opening the doors to new opportunities that may not have been previously available.

Challenges associated with measuring literacy levels and progress are among the many barriers that prevent adult learners from engaging in literacy programs. By allowing for more rapid, frequent assessments of literacy skills compared to some of the more traditional, time-intensive methods, this solution has the potential to greatly reduce barriers to participation as well as support improved outcomes for the learners in adult literacy programs.”

Prisms of Reality

Earlier this year, we shared how Prisms VR is helping close the opportunity gap in math and science for students without access to reliable internet by pairing T-Mobile 5G with its VR learning programs.

Today, Prisms VR is active in 36 states, improving student test scores, engagement and interest in STEM topics, all while delivering a superior immersive VR experience nearly impossible to perform on school Wi-Fi systems due to latency, network restrictions and bandwidth.

Dow has long recognized the value of biodiversity and healthy ecosystems to our company’s economic well-being. Through our pioneering Valuing Nature Goal and a more than decade-long collaboration with TNC, we have demonstrated how nature can be a source of sustainable business value and we consider natural solutions in every new project that we evaluate.

In 2022, we continued our efforts to help conserve and enhance biodiversity through our work with TNC and other partners. We are developing a strategy that will help us holistically manage biodiversity across our company based on the best science. We also are engaging as an industry leader with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures and others to develop disclosure frameworks that enable the industry to meaningfully incorporate – and accurately report – progress on ecosystem restoration and preservation to improve biodiversity.

OUR APPROACH

Developing measurement tools and assessing biological diversity at high-priority sites.

In collaboration with TNC and EcoMetrix Solutions Group, we are piloting a new suite of assessment tools that builds on our Ecosystem Services Identification & Inventory lI tool and is designed to provide input to the decision-making process across the project life cycle, from pre-planning to long-term monitoring.

2022 Actions 
We completed the assessment of biological diversity within Dow’s eucalyptus farming operations at our Breu Branco site in Brazil, in comparison to degraded lands near our operations. The study, performed by EMX, found Dow’s approach to minimizing soil disturbance, carefully managing crop rotation and conserving natural corridors throughout the site resulted in quantifiable benefits across a wide array of ecosystem services, including biodiversity, soil health, climate regulation and water quality protection.

Using nature-based land-use strategies to capture optimal value from ecosystem services.

Land-use transformations such as forest regeneration and wetland restoration can provide natural capital and environmental benefits such as carbon capture and flood mitigation.

2022 Actions 
In collaboration with TNC, Ecolab, the Caterpillar Foundation and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and other partners, Dow supports the Loch Leven project, working to restore and enhance 10,000 wetland acres and provide 12.1 billion gallons (45.8 million cubic meters) of flood storage capacity to local communities within the Mississippi River Delta’s Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley in Louisiana.

“The lethality of fentanyl and the availability of fake pills impacts every community across the United States. Knowledge must be one of our first lines of defense,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram. “People of all ages need to understand the dangers associated with synthetic drugs and know that experimentation can be a deadly mistake. DEA is proud to partner with Discovery Education to provide educators and students an engaging and interactive way to protect the safety and health of this next generation.”

The Drug Enforcement Administration has seized fentanyl, a deadly synthetic opioid, in all 50 states and reported in February 2023, “Fentanyl is deadliest drug threat facing our country”. According to DEA lab analysis, 6 in every 10 pills tested contains a fatal dose of fentanyl, and just two milligrams can be lethal. The CDC predicts that 68% of the 110,684 drug-related deaths in 2022 involved a synthetic opioid like fentanyl. Yet, a mere 40% of young people ages 13–24 were knowledgeable about fentanyl, and only 48% (36% of teens) were aware of fentanyl in fake pills.

“Research has shown the best way to prevent substance misuse is through intervention and education at a young age. Students need to know how to become an advocate for prevention,” said Amy Nakamoto, General Manager of Social Impact at Discovery Education. “Discovery Education is proud to support the DEA in this critical effort to combat the epidemic of the counterfeit drug crisis facing our communities.”

Dunnage — wooden felt saddles that keep our containerboard rolls in place during shipping — has typically been discarded by the customer. Customers store dunnage in a designated trailer and return it to International Paper to be reused, reducing waste.

5. Expand partnerships within the circularity and recycling space and continue to evolve circularity education

WALTHAM, Mass., September 5, 2023 /3BL/ – National Grid submitted its Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP), the Future Grid Plan, to the Grid Modernization Advisory Council (GMAC) on Friday, September 1 outlining the critical investments needed in the local electric distribution system over the next five years and beyond to meet the Commonwealth’s nation-leading climate change, clean energy, and equity goals as established in the 2050 Clean Energy and Climate Plan (CECP). As part of National Grid’s commitment to delivering a fair, affordable, and clean energy future for all its customers, the Plan outlines a comprehensive and flexible path designed to expand and upgrade the current electric distribution grid, ensure reliability, enable increased electrification, and empower smart customer choices and the transition away from a fossil-based economy.

We must continue to invest to achieve our shared goal of accelerating the adoption of climate and clean energy solutions by all customers and communities across Massachusetts. The proposed investments in the Future Grid Plan support the goals set forth in the Commonwealth’s CECP of expanding energy efficiency and demand response, advancing the smart electrification of heating and transportation, and accelerating the connection of solar, storage and other clean energy technologies to the local energy grid. The proposed Future Grid Plan builds upon investments that are already underway and approved by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) in previous proceedings that have put us on a pathway to reducing emissions and increasing electrification.

Ensuring All Customers Are Heard, Engaged, and Benefit 

The proposed investments in the Future Grid Plan align with feedback from customers and communities the company has received to date as part of an extensive engagementprocess in advance of this submission. The scope of this public engagement included outreach to our National Grid Customer Council, comprised of both residential and commercial customers, as well as public officials, local businesses, clean energy groups, nonprofits and community groups and organizations representing Environmental Justice Communities (EJCs).

The investments proposed in this Future Grid Plan are currently projected to have an average annual bill impact of approximately 2% over the first investment period and result in benefits to customers and communities across Massachusetts, including:

Generating incremental economic activity of $1.4 billion and 11,000 full- and part-time jobs by 2030.Enabling an additional 4 gigawatts of capacity by 2035, enough to support an additional 1.1 million electric vehicles, 750,000 electric heat pumps.Upgrading hundreds of feeders to enable the connection of more clean, distributed energy resources.Improving local air quality as more cars, buses and trucks are electrified.

National Grid has also proposed a new Equity and Environmental Justice Policy and Stakeholder Engagement Framework and, together with the state’s other electric distribution companies (EDCs), a joint Community Engagement Stakeholder Advisory Council to empower communications and give more agency to communities to address historic inequities. The company has also proposed enhancing its existing Workforce Development Program to train the next generation of electric line worker from the diverse communities we serve and expanding partnerships to ensure we are reaching all members of our communities to educate and engage them in opportunities that will come from the clean energy transition.

Engaging with Communities: A Look Ahead

Friday’s submission is the first step in a vital public process. Throughout this public process, customers, community advocates, and any other interested parties will be able to provide their feedback through public and technical workshops National Grid will conduct jointly with the Commonwealth’s other electric distribution companies and on its own.

The company will also continue its engagement with the GMAC, which will thoroughly review and provide feedback on the proposed Plan. National Grid will take all feedback and use it to evolve and better inform the formal filing of the Future Grid Plan the company will make to the DPU in January 2024. The DPU will hold a formal process to consider the Plan and direct the company how to proceed.

Background: National Grid is a foundational partner in advancing climate and clean energy goals

This Future Grid plan builds on previous National Grid investments made and actions taken to deliver clean, reliable, affordable electricity for all our customers, including maintaining systemwide reliability at 99.9%, connecting 200 MW of distributed energy resources in 2022, for a total more than 2 GW connected to our system, supporting the installation of 10,000 heat pumps through Mass Save with a goal of another 21,000 by 2024, and enabling the installation of more than 1,800 Electric Vehicle chargers, with another 32,000 to come.

National Grid’s efforts to date support Massachusetts’ goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050 – one of the most ambitious climate goals in the nation. The Commonwealth plans to achieve this goal through programs and plans as established in the CECP to transition major systems and sectors of the Commonwealth’s economy that run on fossil fuels to alternatives that run on clean electricity; for example, transitioning from natural gas for heating to electric heat pumps, and transitioning from gasoline for transportation to electric vehicles. The state’s EDCs were directed in An Act Driving Clean Energy and Offshore Wind to develop and submit ESMPs detailing the investments needed in the local electric grid to achieve the CECP goals and maintain a reliable, resilient, and affordable energy system.

Improving quality, reliability, and safety in the Brazilian bus systems

In preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, and amidst rapid population growth, Brazil invested in a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). BRT is fast and efficient, but its rapid growth led to disparate models with little time for learning and sharing experiences among them. To create a more organized network, several Brazilian cities turned to the World Resources Institute (WRI) and FedEx. For the past 10 years, we’ve infused the same principles that keep our FedEx transportation network running smoothly into bus systems in Brazil. Our unique Quality Driven Management (QDM) approach has led to improved quality of the customer experience, operational and safety improvements, identification of best practices, and an ongoing platform for knowledge sharing and professional development. Our Fellowship program trains WRI staff on QDM and Fellows bring this knowledge to bus systems across the country. Today, this work supports 30 Brazilian bus transit agencies and private operations and drives environmental, social and economic impact.

The collaboration with FedEx over the past ten years has continued to deliver value for WRI and the bus transit agencies and private operations we support. We greatly appreciate the company’s willingness to share their resources and best practices to improve transportation in our most congested cities. In the end, less people in cars resu lts i n less cars on t he road, reducing th e amount of time commuters (and delivery drivers) must waste in traffic.

The Sustainable Cities Climate Impact Challenge launched in 2022 to identify innovative projects that decarbonize transport and promote electric mobility throughout Europe. FedEx teamed up with EIT Climate-KIC to select community-based projects that could most benefit from $50,000 – $75,000 (USD) grants to implement local transport decarbonization initiatives.

Selected for their innovative approaches, strong city government integration, and scalability, the winning projects from Hackney (UK), Espoo (Finland), Olot (Spain), and Karasu (Turkey) each present unique approaches to accelerate the transition towards active, shared, and electric mobility. The projects focus particularly on cycling, with initiatives such as expanding cargo bike usage, increasing cycling uptake, installing secure cycling storage, and creating safe travel corridors.

Adopting ambitious mobility measures locally can have significant health and economic benefits, which can help make the case for regional, na – tional, and EU-wide action. These pilot projects, supported with charitable funding from FedEx, will hopefully demonstrate how engaged com – munities can pave the way towards change.

As the world grapples with impacts from climate changes and increasing natural resource scarcity, the pursuit of a sustainable future is more critical than ever. As such, it is important to explore innovative solutions that support responsible natural resource utilization, including the reduction of power consumption in all aspects of our daily lives.

One such solution resides at the intersection of technology and our homes – smart home technology. If developed and delivered to expectations, smart home systems could revolutionize the way we manage, and reduce, home energy consumption. However, the quality of these solutions is critical to optimize their power management capabilities and ultimately drive a more sustainable future.

Span of Household Energy Consumption

Look around your home right now and consider all the things that use energy. The most obvious contributors to home energy use are, of course, heating and cooling. But there are also lights, televisions, game systems, mobile device recharging stations, alarm systems, and any number of appliances from refrigerators and coffee makers to clocks and toys.

Independently quantifying and managing the energy use of each of these household items is difficult. You may remember to turn the thermostat down when heating isn’t necessary, but do you remember to turn it up when air conditioning is not needed? How about leaving the house and forgetting to turn off the lights? Separately these instances may seem to have little impact on energy use, but when considered collectively these incremental impacts can really add up. Particularly across years of living in a home.

If you could be reminded to adjust the thermostat or turn off unneeded lights, and have the ability do so remotely, energy consumption could be lowered significantly over time. This is where smart home technology can provide a path toward a sustainable future.

Role of Technology in Home Energy Management

Smart home-enabled devices, appliances, and systems are designed to communicate with each other, integrate and analyze usage data, and communicate to the homeowner to help them make informed decisions about energy use. The connected nature of smart homes also drives automation capabilities and remote access to directly manage household energy use. For example:

Smart thermostats optimize heating and cooling by learning homeowner behaviors and adjusting temperature settings accordingly to maintain comfort while minimizing energy use.Smart and energy-efficient lighting systems can be automatically turned off or have brightness levels adjusted to optimize energy use.Smart appliances and smart plugs can automate power when devices are not in use, preventing unnecessary standby power consumption.Integrated energy monitoring from connected devices enables homeowners to track energy use in real-time, allowing them to informed decisions about their consumption.While not a smart home device specifically, integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, into the smart home ecosystem can enable further energy management by prioritizing renewable energy over grid-supplied electricity.

Quality of Smart Home Technologies Factor into Sustainability Impact

As smart home solutions proliferate, there is a lot that goes into delivering them. Beyond traditional appliances, smart-enabled devices for the home face a host of new technology requirements that go beyond standard product testing to now span networking, automation, and energy optimization.

PITTSBURGH and BANGALORE, India, September 5, 2023 /3BL/ – Viatris Inc. (NASDAQ: VTRS), a global healthcare company, today announced U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tentative approval for a New Drug Application for abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in paediatric patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine as a preferred first-line regimen for paediatric patients. According to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), treatment coverage for children and adolescents lags behind adults. Some 660,000 children living with HIV – about 43 percent of the estimated total 1.5 million [1.2 million–2.1 million] children living with HIV – did not receive antiretroviral (ARV) therapy in 2022. Accordingly, children accounted for 13 per cent of AIDS-related deaths in 2022, even though they comprise only about 4 percent of people living with HIV.

The fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in paediatric patients weighing at least 6 kg. The fixed-dose combination tablets for oral suspension are strawberry-flavoured. Historically, it has been challenging to treat paediatric HIV patients because children require special medicine formulations.

The FDA’s tentative approval through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) program means the formulation meets all the agency’s quality, safety, and efficacy standards. Viatris has signed a licensing agreement for paediatric dolutegravir from the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) and development agreement with ViiV Healthcare (ViiV) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) for producing and distributing the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/ dolutegravir/lamivudine.

Rakesh Bamzai, President of India, Emerging Asia & Access Markets at Viatris, said, “At Viatris, we have expanded access at scale to high-quality HIV/AIDS treatment for more than a decade. Over the years, we have continued to seek improvements to existing molecules to better meet patient needs – we have introduced novel heat-stable generic formulations, more convenient packaging options, and paediatric therapies. We have also built strong partnerships with multiple stakeholders to improve access to ARVs, with particular attention to vulnerable populations like children. The approval of this single tablet regimen – the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg – will reduce the pill burden for children living with HIV.”

This milestone supports the company’s sustainability goal to provide ARV therapy equivalent to a total of 30 million patients, including more than 2 million children living with HIV/AIDS, between 2022 and the end of 2025.

The fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine is approved for once-daily treatment of paediatric patients weighing at least 6 kg to <25 kg with HIV-1 infection and the recommended dose of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine tablets for oral suspension is determined according to weight. The fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine are contraindicated in patients with a prior hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir and in HLAB*5701-positive patients. The tentative approval facilitates regulatory authority submissions, production and distribution of the new child friendly formulation across 123 low- and middle-income countries as per the license agreement.

About the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine tablets for oral suspension 
Abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine is a fixed-dose combination containing two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) and integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI). NRTIs interfere with the action of the reverse transcriptase enzyme and INSTI interferes with the action of integrase enzyme to prevent the virus from replicating. All patients with HIV-1 should be tested for the presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) prior to or when initiating the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg as severe acute exacerbations of HBV have been reported in patients who are co-infected with HBV and HIV-1 and have discontinued the medication.

Abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine was approved in the US on 30 March 2022 under the brand name Triumeq PD.

INDICATION 
The fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in paediatric patients aged at least 3 months weighing at least 6 kg. to less than 25 kgs.

Limitations of Use: 
The fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension is not recommended in patients with resistance-associated integrase substitutions or clinically suspected INSTI resistance because the dose of dolutegravir in the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg is insufficient in these subpopulations. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

BOXED WARNING: HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTIONS AND EXACERBATIONS OF HEPATITIS B VIRUS (HBV)

Hypersensitivity Reactions: 
Serious and sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reactions, with multiple organ involvement, have occurred with abacavir, a component of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg. 
Patients who carry the HLA-B*5701 allele are at a higher risk of experiencing a hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir, although hypersensitivity reactions have occurred in patients who do not carry the HLA-B*5701 allele. 
The fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg are contraindicated in patients with a prior hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir and in HLAB*5701-positive patients. All patients should be screened for the HLA-B*5701 allele prior to initiating therapy or re-initiation of therapy with the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg unless patients have a previously documented HLA-B*5701 allele assessment.

Discontinue the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg immediately if a hypersensitivity reaction is suspected, regardless of HLA-B*5701 status and even when other diagnoses are possible.

Following a hypersensitivity reaction to the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg, NEVER restart the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension or any other abacavir-containing product.

Exacerbations of Hepatitis B: 
All patients with HIV-1 should be tested for the presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) prior to or when initiating the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg. Emergence of lamivudine-resistant HBV variants associated with lamivudine-containing antiretroviral regimens has been reported. If the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg is used in patients co-infected with HIV-1 and HBV, additional treatment should be considered for appropriate treatment of chronic HBV; otherwise, consider an alternative regimen.

Severe acute exacerbations of HBV have been reported in patients who are co-infected with HBV and HIV-1 and have discontinued lamivudine, a component of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg. Monitor hepatic function closely in these patients and, if appropriate, initiate anti-hepatitis B treatment.

Contraindications 
Do not use the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg in patients who have the HLA-B*5701 allele.

Do not use the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg in patients with previous hypersensitivity reaction to abacavir, dolutegravir, or lamivudine.

Do not use the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg in patients receiving dofetilide.

Do not use the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg in patients with moderate or severe hepatic impairment.

Warnings and precautions

Hypersensitivity Reactions: 
Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported with dolutegravir and were characterized by rash, constitutional findings, and sometimes organ dysfunction, including liver injury.

Clinically, it is not possible to determine whether a hypersensitivity reaction with the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg would be caused by abacavir or dolutegravir.

Discontinue the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg immediately if signs or symptoms of hypersensitivity reactions develop, as a delay in stopping treatment may result in a life-threatening reaction. Clinical status, including liver aminotransferases, should be monitored and appropriate therapy initiated.

Hepatotoxicity: 
Hepatic adverse events have been reported, including cases of hepatic toxicity (elevated serum liver biochemistries, hepatitis, and acute liver failure), in patients receiving a dolutegravir-containing regimen without pre-existing hepatic disease or other identifiable risk factors.

Patients with underlying hepatitis B or C may be at increased risk for worsening or development of transaminase elevations with use of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg. In some cases, the elevations in transaminases were consistent with immune reconstitution syndrome or hepatitis B reactivation, particularly in the setting where anti-hepatitis therapy was withdrawn.

Drug-induced liver injury leading to liver transplant has been reported with the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine.

Monitoring for hepatotoxicity is recommended.

Lactic Acidosis and Severe Hepatomegaly with Steatosis: 
Fatal cases have been reported with the use of nucleoside analogues, including abacavir and lamivudine.

Discontinue the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg if clinical or laboratory findings suggestive of lactic acidosis or pronounced hepatotoxicity develop, including hepatomegaly and steatosis in the absence of marked transaminase elevations.

Embryo-Fetal Toxicity: 
Assess the risks and benefits of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine and discuss with the patient to determine if alternative treatments should be considered at the time of conception through the first trimester of pregnancy due to the risk of neural tube defects.

Pregnancy testing is recommended before use of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine. Adolescents and adults of childbearing potential should be counseled on the consistent use of effective contraception.

The fixed-dose combination of abacavir/dolutegravir/lamivudine may be considered during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy if the expected benefit justifies the potential risk to the pregnant woman and the fetus.

Adverse Reactions or Loss of Virologic Response Due to Drug Interactions with concomitant use of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg and other drugs may occur (see Contraindications and Drug Interactions).

Immune Reconstitution Syndrome, including the occurrence of autoimmune disorders with variable time to onset, has been reported with the use of fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg.

Different Formulations Are Not Interchangeable: 
The fixed-dose combination of abacavir 600 mg/dolutegravir 50 mg/lamivudine 300 mg tablets and the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets for oral suspension are not bioequivalent and are not interchangeable on a milligram-per-milligram basis. If a patient switches from one formulation to the other, the dose must be adjusted.

Myocardial Infarction (MI): 
Several observational studies have reported an association with the use of abacavir and the risk of MI; meta-analyses of randomized controlled clinical trials did not show increased risk. To date, there is no established biological mechanism to explain a potential increase in risk. In totality, the available data show inconsistency; therefore, evidence for a causal relationship between abacavir and the risk of MI is inconclusive.

The underlying risk of coronary heart disease should be considered when prescribing antiretroviral therapies, including abacavir, and action taken to minimize all modifiable risk factors (e.g., hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking).

Adverse reactions: 
The most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥2%, Grades 2-4) in treatment-naïve adults receiving the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 600 mg/dolutegravir 50 mg/lamivudine 300 mg tablets were insomnia (3%), headache (2%), and fatigue (2%).

Use in specific populations: 
Pregnancy: Assess the risks and benefits of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 600 mg/dolutegravir 50 mg/lamivudine 300 mg tablets and discuss with the patient to determine if an alternative treatment should be considered at the time of conception through the first trimester or if pregnancy is confirmed in the first trimester due to the risk of neural tube defects.

Lactation: Breastfeeding is not recommended due to the potential for HIV-1 transmission, developing viral resistance in HIV-positive infants, and adverse reactions in a breastfed infant.

Impaired Renal Function: the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg are not recommended for patients with creatinine clearance <30 mL/min. Patients with a sustained creatinine clearance between 30 and 49 mL/min should be monitored for hematologic toxicities, which may require a dosage adjustment of lamivudine as an individual component.

Impaired Hepatic Function: If a dose reduction of abacavir is required for patients with mild hepatic impairment, then the individual components of the fixed-dose combination of abacavir 60 mg/dolutegravir 5 mg/lamivudine 30 mg tablets should be used.
