CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 31, 2024 /3BL/ – In its continuing pursuit to develop packaging materials that meet the sustainability goals of its customers, global packaging solutions provider SEE (NYSE: SEE) has developed the first biobased, industrial compostable tray for protein packaging that has been successfully tested to meet the demands of existing food processing equipment.

SEE’s new CRYOVAC® brand compostable overwrap tray is made from biobased, food-contact grade resin, which is USDA-certified as having 54% biobased content chemically derived from renewable wood cellulose. The tray, which will break down into organic material without leaving toxic residue, was created as an alternative to those made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), which are traditionally used to package fresh poultry and red meat for consumer purchase but are not biodegradable or recyclable.

Setting a new sustainability standard, SEE will introduce the CRYOVAC® brand compostable overwrap tray at the International Product & Processing Expo (IPPE) January 30 – February 1 at booth C31141. IPPE, the world’s largest poultry and egg, meat, and animal food industry event, is held each year in Atlanta.

Proven Strength and Certified Compostable

Developed to offer the same performance and stability as EPS foam trays, SEE’s lightweight tray underwent extensive trials across the food value chain where it survived rigorous manufacturing systems, extreme temperatures, and demanding shipping and distribution environments without breaking, cracking, or leaking.

The tray has been tested (without added components such as the overwrap film, pad, label, or sticker) and certified by BPI to be industrial compostable, meaning it can be broken down by biological treatment at a large-scale industrial composting facility where available. The resin used to make the tray has been certified by TÜV Austria as soil and marine biodegradable, which means it is degraded by microorganisms existing naturally in the environment.

“SEE is proud to bring to market the first compostable packaging tray designed to run on existing processor production lines,” said Tobias Grasso, SEE’s President of the Americas Region. “The CRYOVAC® brand compostable overwrap tray is a breakthrough innovation that is better for the environment than traditional trays and helps our customers meet their sustainability goals.”

Commitment to Sustainability

The CRYOVAC® brand compostable overwrap tray is part of SEE’s broader commitment to sustainability. The company has pledged to design and advance all its packaging solutions to be recyclable or reusable, to eliminate waste by incorporating an average of 50% recycled or renewable content into packaging solutions, and to collaborate on recycling technology and infrastructure.

SEE’s Impact Report for FY22 details the company’s sustainability commitments, industry leadership, innovative solutions, and global strategic partnerships. The report highlights SEE’s progress toward its sustainability goals including diverting waste from landfills and operational reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water intensity.

Planning for ESG reporting, disclosures, and events can be a challenging undertaking. There are countless events and submission deadlines to track, several of which have limited timeframes each year for participation, and the dates are not always easy to track down. Nasdaq’s dedicated ESG team therefore compiled the calendar below as a resource to assist you in organising and resourcing your 2024 ESG plans. Presented in a quarterly format, the calendar identifies key reporting deadlines and release dates for ESG frameworks, standards, rating and ranking questionnaires, and assessments, as well as important ESG events and conferences.

How to Plan Your ESG Year Ahead

While this calendar reflects the most widely known ESG reporting organisations and events, it will continue to evolve as a reflection of the evolving ESG landscape. With ever more ESG reporting frameworks, ratings, and events coming about, it is important to identify and prioritise those most impactful to your ESG program, as resourcing all of these is unrealistic for most organisations. In evaluating which ratings and rankings in which to participate, for example, identify those most critical to your shareholders and other stakeholders, including employees and customers, and to your brand. Consider opportunities for feedback and benchmarking against your peers. Should you need support with this assessment, our Nasdaq ESG Advisory team is standing by to help you make the most of your ESG disclosures.

Once you have identified your priorities, ensure that you have the right resources and partners in place to help you achieve your goals. For example, while reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) begins in April, it is essential to have the right technology in place for your emissions calculations well in advance of that window. Connecting with our Nasdaq ESG Solutions team will help you understand and begin the data collection and assessment processes needed for your CDP response. Similarly, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) deadline for participation is typically early to mid-summer. Engaging our team and the Nasdaq Metrio platform will ensure you can begin to understand the requirements of the survey and find the right data points and subject matter experts across your organisation in preparation for your submission. Once you are ready to participate, Nasdaq Metrio, our end-to-end sustainability reporting platform, can also streamline the transfer of your data to many of the reporting and rating organisations to minimise duplicative data entry and ensure the accuracy of your responses.

Additional detail on timing may become available and new events may be added, so bookmark this link to leverage our team’s ESG updates throughout 2024.

NEW YORK, January 30, 2024 /3BL/ – In an effort to recognize and award industry best practices to create healthier and more resilient homes, the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the global authority for driving market transformation through healthy buildings, organizations and communities, today announced its new WELL for residential program, launching with 25 global pilot participants that have enrolled nearly 30,000 homes and residences. The evidence-based, third-party verified certification program is poised to transform the way homes are designed, built and maintained to support human health and well-being.

The WELL for residential program, informed by the evidence-based principles of the WELL Building Standard (WELL) and its 10 WELL concepts, offers more than 100 strategies to create homes that prioritize resident health, comfort and well-being. Designed to empower builders and developers, operators, architects and designers and homeowners, the new health leadership framework is applicable to both single family homes and residences within multifamily buildings.

“We are excited to work side by side with our pilot participants, as well as hundreds of stakeholders along the residential sector value chain, to introduce this transformational roadmap that will help market leaders adopt health-first strategies into how we design, operate and maintain our homes,” said Rachel Hodgdon, President and CEO, IWBI.

Healthier and more resilient homes are increasingly vital today as people look to enhance their homes for advancing their health and well-being, while also fortifying against future health threats or challenges. The WELL for residential program seeks to provide a solution to help transform the global residential market and ensure that everyone, no matter their backgrounds, has access to a home that enhances their health and enables them to make healthier decisions.

The development of the program drew upon two years of industry input, market insight and expert recommendations from IWBI’s WELL for residential Advisory, a working group of over 100 globally renowned subject matter experts, including leading builders and developers, architects and engineers, public health and building scientists, government officials and academics, as well as other real estate professionals.

Projects can earn the WELL Residence seal for residences upon completion of third-party review and verification of selected strategies. To attain a WELL Residence certification, a home must achieve at least 40 points. Projects also have an opportunity to earn a pre-certified WELL Residence status upon preliminary design review, an incremental milestone that allows participants to communicate achievement before construction is completed.

Leading organizations excited to contribute toward the groundbreaking program are embracing WELL for residential in their developments. Twenty-five pilot participants have committed to implementing WELL for residential across nearly 30,000 residences in both single family homes and multifamily communities. The projects have a diverse global footprint across 10 countries, including, the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Montenegro and the Netherlands.

Hodgdon applauded the pilot participants for their leadership and commitment to creating healthier living environments for residents.

To date, participants of the WELL for residential program include but not limited to:

AM Gebiedsontwikkeling – Groen van Prinstererlaan Amstelveen and Burgemeester Haspelslaan Amstelveen
ARCHETYPE Investments – Continuum 115 Apartments
Assembly OSM – 147 St. Felix Street and 247 East 117th Street

Embracing WELL for residential as a way to pioneer health innovation, some of the programs earliest adopters included Corvias with nearly 22,000 single-family homes and apartments across seven military installations in six states through its partnerships with the United States Army and the Department of Defense as part of the military housing privatization initiative; Jubilee, a Texas-based community of nearly 5,000 single family homes by Johnson Development; Velvaere of Park City, Utah, a wellness-focused sky resort by Magleby Development; Caplow Manzano’s CM1 in Miami, a single family house elevated for climate preparedness; Albion Court of London, a historic brewery conversion by City Sanctuary Development; 123 Portland in Toronto by Canada’s leading developer Minto Communities; New York modular tech company Assembly OSM’s Saint Felix in Brooklyn and 117th Street in Harlem; Baopu Care in Taipei; Christopher Homes’ Seneca at Southern Highlands in Henderson, NV; Green Neighborhood Villa in Foshan, China; and renovated Continuum 115 Apartments by ARCHETYPE Investments in Charlotte, NC.

During the pilot stage, IWBI will work with global users and collect stakeholder feedback to refine the new standard, ensuring it is a robust, globally applicable roadmap for healthier, more resilient homes.

The WELL for residential program adds to the WELL ecosystem and provides a new pathway for creating people-first residences. The program builds upon the work IWBI has already done within the multifamily sector through its WELL Certification and WELL ratings programs. Leading organizations in the multifamily homes that have achieved WELL Certification have helped inform and inspire the development of the new WELL for residential program.

The WELL ecosystem comprises WELL Certification under the WELL Building Standard, a library of building and organizational strategies focused on health, the WELL Health-Safety Rating, WELL Performance Rating, WELL Equity Rating and certification under the WELL Community Standard. WELL’s holistic, evidence-based approach has provided a roadmap for organizations to promote social sustainability performance and enhance their ESG strategy. As a result, thousands of organizations including nearly 30% of Fortune 500 companies across nearly 130 countries have adopted WELL strategies in more than 40,000 locations totaling almost five billion square feet of space.

What early adopters are saying about the WELL for residential program:

Chad Magleby, CEO, Magleby Development

“The WELL for residential program focuses on positively impacting resident health, something Minto Communities is excited to give to each of our new residents at 123 Portland. Achieving the WELL Residence designation for each unit will communicate additional confidence to residents in the health benefits inside their homes.”

Carl Pawlowski, Senior Manager, Sustainability, Minto Communities

Mondelēz 2022 Snacking Made Right Report

Employee Volunteering and Charitable Giving

Through our Mondelēz International Changemakers program, our people give their time, talents, and treasure to help make a positive impact on their communities aligned with our Snacking Made Right priorities. The program is designed to enable our colleagues to play a direct and impactful role in supporting our goals and strategies to make snacking right, through individual and personal contributions that make a real difference in the communities where we all live and work. Contributions are organized and focused to align with our strategic Snacking Made Right priorities, including more sustainable sourcing of key ingredients, lowering climate impact, respecting human rights, reducing packaging waste, and advancing colleague and community well-being through a culture of DE&I.

Health in Action Program

The number of children consuming vegetables on a daily basis in 342 schools in at-risk communities in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Western Cape has increased by 494% between 2019 and 2022, thanks to the Health in Action (HIA) program by non-governmental organization, INMED South Africa, and the Mondelēz International Foundation.

While Mondelēz International is a leading producer of snacks, it is committed to inspiring consumers to snack mindfully, with the emphasis on savoring their snacks without overindulging.

“The Health in Action program is close to our hearts, because we understand how important nutrition education is for children. Our seven-year partnership with INMED has been highly rewarding and we salute the 227 Mondelēz volunteers, who put their hands up for the second phase of the project, contributing 669 hours of their time to make the initiative a success.

Celebrating 10 Years of Encouraging Healthy Living Through UK Schools

For the past 10 years, we have been running the Health for Life® program in 211 schools across the UK, together with our delivery partners Services For Education and The Conservation Volunteers. To mark the 10-year anniversary of our Health for Life program, participating schools were given the opportunity to bid for a cash grant totaling £15,000 to develop the program further in their school. They were asked to base their bid on one of the three key program strands: food growing; healthy eating/ cookery; and physical activity.

The aim was to enable schools to build on what they had already achieved and focus on a specific project which would make a significant and sustainable impact in promoting healthier lifestyles for pupils and the school community. From a range of submissions, three schools were awarded a grant of £5,000 each to implement their individual project. Elms Farm Primary School chose to create a brand-new outdoor fitness area for use by pupils, the wider community and holiday clubs. Highfield Junior and Infants School planned to develop a diverse outdoor classroom for lessons, break-times and for family involvement, enabling children to spend more enrichment time outdoors and learn how to grow their own food. Hillstone Primary School opted to extend their focus on cooking and healthy eating with the creation of a dedicated and fully-equipped cooking classroom for students and family cooking courses. The projects are now underway in all three schools and completion will be celebrated in summer 2023.

“We are very grateful to Health for Life for their continued support and this generous grant. It has provided us an opportunity to make a real difference, improve our outdoor facilities, and enable us to continue to inspire pupils about the importance of living a healthier life.”

“TRASH RIGHT” Waste & Recycling Education Program in Thailand

Echoing our mission of ‘Snacking Made Right’, Mondelēz International (Thailand) joined hands with Trash Lucky and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), to launch the ‘Trash Right’ program. This program aims to raise awareness about the right approach to managing recyclable waste and motivate our communities to trash it the right way. Schools were selected for the pilot project and students, teachers, parents, and the surrounding communities were encouraged to cultivate waste-sorting habits and play a role in creating more long-term sustainability values. The sorted waste was then collected, recycled, and upcycled in accordance with the circular economy concept.

Investing in the Future of Organic Agriculture

Moreover, in 2022, Clif Bar announced two $1 million endowments to land grant universities as part of its $10 million commitment to support the advancement of organic agriculture. The final two endowments out of five went to Tuskegee University, the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to be awarded as part of the program, and the University of Wisconsin, which received a prior endowment from Clif in 2015. Today, more than 80% of all ingredients in CLIF products are organic or certified sustainable.

Promoting Healthier Lifestyles Among Children in Mexico

This partnership between Mondelēz International and Save the Children aimed to improve children’s nutrition and physical fitness in Mexico through in-school and community-based programs. The program developed throughout a six-year period and had two phases, reaching nearly than 40,000 children in Mexico City, Puebla, and the State of Mexico.

To achieve our shared goal of improving knowledge, attitudes and practices in nutrition and healthy lifestyles among school-age children, we built on the foundation laid during Phase I where we dramatically increased knowledge and positive attitudes regarding healthy food and lifestyle choices in children through in-school workshops and participatory learning activities. Phase 2 of the project focused on the strengthening of community support and engagement of more teachers and parents.

Helping to Ensure Children Get a Good Start to the Day

In February 2022, Philadelphia partnered up with Save the Children and the campaign “Double the good – for every child’s equal right to a good start to the day”. As main partner to Save the Children Sweden, Philadelphia supports the Breakfast Club initiative, which aims to give more children in socio-economically vulnerable areas the opportunity to have a good start to the day. The Breakfast Club initiative was launched within Save the Children Sweden’s “On Equal Terms” program. The initiative means that children in socio-economically vulnerable areas get breakfast and can participate in leisure activities before school starts. The club represents an important contribution to the children’s right to well-being and health, which in turn creates better conditions for a good schooling and in practice it also means a financial relief for parents who have children at the Breakfast Club.

“As a consumer, you support Save the Children and the Breakfast Club by buying Philadelphia, but we also want to encourage our consumers to contribute together with us and make it possible for Save the Children to open even more Breakfast Clubs around Sweden.”

Product designs from CNH’s global agriculture brands Case IH and New Holland have been honored with four Good Design Awards. Winners of this renowned global prize for design excellence are determined by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd. This edition saw submissions received from over 55 countries.

“Our CNH Design Team is always thrilled to be recognized by the Good Design Awards. The unique talents within this global team are on full display in these designs which include our brands’ flagship products and world first electric tractors with autonomous features,” said David Wilkie, Head of Design at CNH.

The Winners

The Case IH Farmall 75C Electric is the brand’s first fully electric tractor. The electrification of the iconic Farmall model gave the CNH Design team an opportunity to reimagine it with a brand-new design that evokes its powerful, diesel-equivalent performance and ability to tackle agriculture’s toughest jobs.

The Case IH Quadtrac 715 – the world’s most powerful tractor – sports a new signature look that suggests its vast technological and performance capabilities, which work in unison to deliver customers greatly increased productivity.

The New Holland CR11 is the brand’s next-generation flagship combine. It integrates world-class iron with AI and machine learning to automate tasks and optimize all aspects of harvesting, from maximizing crop value to minimizing fuel usage. It showcases a new design and style for the brand, developed through close collaboration between the CNH Design, Engineering, Product and Brand Marketing teams. The result is iconic: a refreshed design that is stylish yet timeless. The flow of the harvest is underlined on the exterior body panels by the flowing blue line that runs across the combine, highlighting the various functions of the machine.

The New Holland T4 Electric Power all-electric utility tractor features the New Holland Clean Blue color, an illuminated leaf emblem, and signature taillights that mark a clear distinction from the aesthetics of conventional diesel tractors. As a fully battery-powered vehicle, it is the first zero-emission light utility tractor with no internal combustion engine and autonomous features.

Winning the Good Design Award is a testament to CNH’s continued recognition for innovative design, in turn encouraging the use of products that contribute to a more sustainable world.

The fashion industry is continuing to undergo crucial transformations. With the environmental toll of fast fashion evident, consumers are demanding more from the brands they love: top-notch quality, enduring designs, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Rothy’s, a direct-to-consumer shoes and accessories brand, is leader in this shift. At the heart of Rothy’s success is a revolutionary approach to sustainability that combines innovative materials, a zero-waste factory, and no-waste manufacturing practices. Each pair of shoes is crafted not only for style and comfort but designed to minimize its ecological footprint. Rothy’s takes it a step further by prioritizing longevity, ensuring their products are designed for long-term use. For products that do reach their end-of-life point, Rothy’sencourages a sustainable life cycle through a recycling program, using well-worn shoes to create new products.

We invited Dayna Quanbeck, President of Rothy’s — but Chief Operating Officer and Chief Finance Officer at the time of recording — to explain how the company is helping consumers understand the harmony between fashion and environmental responsibility.
