KeyBank and the KeyBank Foundation announced an investment of $150,000 in Columbus-based Homeport, aimed at bolstering its Housing Advisory Services (HAS) program.

HAS is an evidenced-based, HUD-certified education and counseling program for low- and moderate-income individuals and families in managing finances, building wealth and purchasing a first home. It is available to residents and the public. Homeport’s strategy is to assist more families living paycheck-to-paycheck as they are most vulnerable to the impacts of job loss, health, transportation and other factors. The program is expanding down payment assistance and lease option homeownership to support low-income Black and minority homebuyers on the journey to homeownership.

“KeyBank’s purpose is to help the communities we serve thrive, and accessibility to homeownership resources is a crucial element,” said Lara DeLeone, KeyBank Central Ohio Market President. “We are excited to partner with and support Homeport, helping to connect Central Ohioans to industry experts and resources in the homeownership arena. This partnership will not only strengthen our community, but it will provide equitable access to jobs, education, healthcare and more.”

“KeyBank’s generous investment directly underwrites our strategic priority to expand household equity for Black people, people of color, and low- to moderate-income buyers,” said Homeport President and CEO Leah Evans. “A key element of that is ensuring that homeownership is not just accessible, but sustainable. Homebuyer education is the number one foreclosure prevention tool and prepares our clients for the ups and downs of homeownership, ensuring that we create opportunities that last and empower people to build generational wealth.”

Since Homeport’s inception in 1987, it has given greater security, opportunity and dignity to thousands of low-income people by building quality, affordable homes, primarily financed with private investment leveraged by Federal tax credits. The non-profit also develops new and renovated single- and multi-family homes designed to catalyze neighborhood revitalization, including market-rate homes, single-family, and lease-to-purchase homes.

Each year, Homeport equips thousands of Central Ohioans with the foundational skills needed for successful home ownership. Through group classes and one-on-one coaching, Homeport provides direction and training in key areas such as the home buying process, setting a budget, and avoiding foreclosure, with the goal of providing the tools everyone needs to be long-term stewards of a home.

KeyBank has supported the Homeport since 2000.

In 2023, Nielsen employees had the opportunity to participate in the Women in Nielsen (WIN) Leadership Summit for the third consecutive year. The Leadership Summit brings colleagues across Nielsen together in interactive panels, discussion groups, and webinars to learn from each other and share stories to motivate and inspire the next generation of leaders. The Summit is organized by WIN, a Business Resource Group that strives to shape and sustain an inclusive business culture that values the talents and perspectives of women.

With the theme emPOWERment, Choose Your Yes, attendees left feeling empowered to take their career into their hands and use that power to the fullest. “It’s a reminder that our career doesn’t happen to us; we are active in our pursuits and can make different choices if we aren’t aligned with where things are headed,” said Angela Povia, VP of Client Consulting and a Regional Co-Lead for WIN. Nicole Cetta, Process Lead, agreed that this was the perfect time to talk about empowerment, “Nielsen is going through a time of change, and with change often comes some feelings of uncertainty. Honing in on your value and how to convey that value to others is empowering.”

Despite changes and uncertainty, women remain ambitious and driven at every stage of their careers. McKinsey & Company’s “Women in the Workplace 2023” report found that young women are especially ambitious, with 9 in 10 wanting to be promoted to the next level and 3 in 4 aspiring to become senior leaders. In order to build a safe space where everyone can confidently learn how be empowered in their career, the WIN Summit had 11 panels that showed the different ways we can take control of our future. From The Intentional Professional: The Importance of Developing a Healthy Relationship with your Career Ambitions to Timing is Everything: When To Make Your Next Move, there was something for all attendees to learn at the summit no matter what stage of their career they are in.

In the Stretching for Growth: Assignments that Expand Your Potential session, panelists who took on stretch assignments or facilitated them for others talked about their experiences.

Gomes–Abreu, Client Services Manager, who helped organize the session said, “Oftentimes we get hyper-focused on our day-to-day obligations that we forget to take a step back and look at our career from a macro perspective. A stretch assignment allows employees to feel empowered and encourages them to take ownership in their career journey.”

Building on Nielsen’s values of inclusion, courage and growth, the WIN Summit connected Nielsen employees from all business units and backgrounds to create a collective learning experience—men included! “I left the summit feeling empowered to advocate for myself. I was surrounded by people all trying to move their careers forward, but also willing to lend a hand and help wherever they could. There was a real feeling of connection with others that has stuck with me.”

Even if change and uncertainty surround us, we can choose the path we want to be on. Our professional lives are a product of the decisions we make; knowing ourselves, being prepared, and taking intentional steps will guarantee success. “Focusing on what we can control and what we can do to prepare ourselves, our colleagues, and the industry we serve for [tough] changes is the best use of our time,” said Rich Tunkel, SVP of Sales, WIN sponsor and WIN Summit panelist.

As we wrap up celebrations for Black History Month, we want you to meet Dexter Thompson, Hardship Program Director for the KFC Foundation. For him, it’s important to stay connected to his culture and share his roots with his daughter.

“I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Louisville, Kentucky when I was 14 years old. It’s important for me to stay connected to my roots when I go back to Georgia to visit my grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. My wife and daughter always join me on these trips so that I can show my daughter that her roots are not just planted in one place.”

Chemours China hosted their seventh annual Chemours Magical Science Camp, a public science program intended to encourage children between the ages of nine and 13 to explore the captivating realm of science. With over 980 participants from over 28 provinces and cities, and an online live stream reached almost 3,500 cumulative viewers across multiple platforms—Chemours Magical Science Camp has become a local favorite of students and science teachers alike.

Integrating knowledge, fun, and professionalism, Magical Science Camp inspires a love of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) among students through interesting experiments that leverage everyday objects for fascinating results. During the camp, Chemours crafted four entertaining science experiments: a pH Rainbow, a lava lamp, a fruit battery, and an iodine-starch test.

Students created fascinating color changes through acid-based reactions, designed a lava lamp with floating bubbles, used metal pieces to replace hydrogen ions in fruit, and used iodophor to detect characters hidden on a blank piece of paper.

In addition to the detailed demonstrations and explanations by Chemours mentors, the event introduced a new concept of a Teenage Partner. Two teenage fans from the previous Magical Science Camp events were invited to join the mentors on stage and help with the experiments. The perspective of the peer teenagers helped other students better grasp the essence of the experience while injecting more fun and delight into the workshop.

“We are dedicated to assisting young people in deepening their understanding of chemistry and igniting their interest in science via engaging experiments, thus, empowering them to become innovative enablers in the future,” shared Jessica Bo, General Manager of Chemours China.

The communities where Chemours operates are also where we live, work, and play. We have a vested interest in ensuring and enhancing their vibrancy through the positive impacts we can make, which includes in investing to expand access to STEM education. We look forward to continuing to inspire a love for science through this special program and are proud that Chemours Magical Science Camp program has been recognized in the China Philanthropy Festival as the Public Welfare Program of the Year.

March 1, 2024 /3BL/ – In recognition of Employee Appreciation Day, AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, today launched its latest employer branding campaign that focuses on individual employees and their personal experiences working at the company.

The campaign “Leave Boring Behind,” highlights one of the company’s core value propositions — a job that lets you live your passion — and provides an authentic behind-the-scenes look at what it is like to work in one of AEG’s business divisions – venues, music, sports, global partnerships, and ticketing.

AEG launched the campaign to attract talent to the variety of career opportunities available at the company and promote its inclusive and welcoming culture.

“Working at a job that lets you live your passion is one of the things that makes AEG such a great company to work for,” said Marla Anderson, VP of Talent Acquisitions at AEG. “Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, so what better way to showcase the exciting career opportunities at our company than to have them share what its like to work here.”

The integrated campaign will run across a variety of social and digital channels and consists of display ads that highlight the company’s venues, sports franchises and music events, 60-second spots that showcase individuals and their jobs, and 10-second video ads and key visuals that reveal what team members love most about their job and the company.

“The campaign is launching at a time when the live events industry is growing and we are expanding our workforce to meet that demand,” Anderson adds. “In addition to attracting new talent, we are focused on strengthening our culture of belonging and empowering our employees by offering a variety of training and development opportunities so they can fulfill their goals both personally and professionally.”
