Entergy recently welcomed six new faculty members from partner universities to its Entergy Faculty Extern Program across our service area in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The program offers STEM educators – in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics – collaborative opportunities, facility tours, job shadowing and hands-on experiences to enhance their understanding of energy careers and better prepare their students.

Originally established in 2019, our extern program was put on hold due to the pandemic and reintroduced in 2023 with expanded offerings, including non-nuclear business functions such as reliability and the reliability control center, providing faculty with insights into various industry aspects.

“The program serves as a transformational agent to how we should see education. It is just not about loading them [students] with theory and knowledge but also emphasizing how important soft skills and communication skills are,” said Dr. Erol Sarigul, associate professor, department of advanced technology, Alcorn State University.

The 2024 program began with an orientation in Jackson, Mississippi, followed by on-site job shadowing in participants’ service areas. Faculty externs gained valuable industry knowledge, enabling them to inspire students and serve as Entergy brand ambassadors in their communities. Since the program’s re-launch, participants have lauded the program for enhancing their ability to connect theory with practice and improving student employability through relevant, practical learning experiences.

“Faculty externs were given an in-depth, inside look at the important work we do each day at Entergy. Entergy subject matter experts and leaders shared their time, talents and knowledge with the faculty externs. As a result, those externs will take new examples to their classrooms, highlight the energy industry as a viable career option and serve as Entergy brand ambassadors in their local communities,” said Krystal Thurman, Entergy’s diverse workforce strategy program manager and Entergy Faculty Extern program lead. “Programs like this do not happen without an immense amount of teamwork, collaboration and desire to make others more successful.”

Viatris is a global healthcare company focused on bringing high-quality medicines to patients through a hybrid approach that bridges the traditional divide between generics and brands, combining the best of both, to more holistically address healthcare needs globally. The diversity of our portfolio, global footprint and our mission to empower people worldwide to live healthier at every stage of life are our foundational strengths.

Our business and operating model is deliberately designed and implemented to deliver on our strategy to build and sustain access to medicine at scale. Underpinned by Viatris’ relevance and success in meeting evolving healthcare needs, we seek to create value for and together with our key stakeholders – the people who trust our medicines every day, the health systems who rely on us, the people who make up Viatris, our partners and the investors who believe in our ability to execute on our ambitious mission.

We are convinced that patients and health systems around the world are best served by a healthcare company applying a well-rounded and longterm approach, maintaining viability while working to manage inherent risks and opportunities, and continuously striving to advance sustainable operations and responsible practices in a focused way.

Our Commitment to Access

Access is fundamental to our mission. It is not an initiative; it is our business model. It begins with our ability to sustainably deliver quality medicines at scale to people, regardless of geography or circumstance. With an extensive portfolio of medicines to address nearly every health need, a one-of-a-kind global supply chain designed to reach more people with health solutions when and where they need them, and the scientific expertise to address some of the world’s most enduring health challenges, access is central to everything we do.

From our unique vantage point, we touch all of life’s moments, from birth to the end of life, acute conditions to chronic diseases. We see across multiple therapeutic areas to the person at the center of their own unique health journey. We are focused on meeting individual needs, whether with a generic medicine, a trusted brand, an improved version of an existing medicine, or a truly novel therapeutic solution.

We go beyond developing, making and distributing high-quality medicines and work to help find solutions that support resilient systems for health. We have designed our global operations and supply chain to be a reliable and flexible partner to enable access to medicines across the world, constantly adapting to an ever-evolving and increasingly dynamic landscape.

Partnerships and collaborations are critical for meaningful and lasting impact, as are policies and strong healthcare systems that allow for healthy competitive environments. While needs are universal, circumstances are local, and we work with an array of organizations – globally, regionally and locally, public and private – to support sustainable access to medicines at consistent quality standards. We work to connect more people with even more products and services to advance access and health. Ultimately, we know we are stronger together, working collaboratively and relentlessly across our company and with the broader global community, in pursuit of access.

Providing a Sustainable, Diverse and Differentiated Portfolio

In 2023, Viatris sold more than 80 billion doses of medicine across more than 165 countries and territories, reaching more than 90% of LMICs. We supply medicines for patients across a broad range of major therapeutic areas. Viatris offers quality treatment options across more than 10 major therapeutic areas covering a wide variety of NCDs and infectious diseases. We also offer support services such as diagnostic clinics, educational seminars and digital tools to help patients better manage their health. We offer a broad and diverse range of product options across all our therapeutic areas, with many categories containing several products in a range of dosage forms, formulations and delivery systems that allow physicians to tailor care for people’s needs.

Meeting Unmet Needs With Added Competencies

Viatris has announced a well-established strategic vision to build for a future where we remain a relevant partner in meeting unmet needs and supporting healthcare systems across the globe, in an ever-evolving landscape. In 2023, we worked diligently to build a strong foundation for executing on the next phase of our strategic plan, including making significant progress on our previously announced divestitures. More information about the divestitures is provided on page 89.

We are not changing who we are; we are focusing on our core competencies and adding to our capabilities to better meet unmet needs. We intend to continue building on our strong existing access-driven base business while diligently pursuing important new opportunities, with a clear focus on limited-competition complex generics and novel products targeting gaps in care, all with a first-to-market emphasis where our scientific and development expertise can help further accelerate access. In addition to novel products, we will continue to focus on making improvements to existing molecules, including new formulations, to better meet the needs of people worldwide. Complex product categories are critical to patient health and are growing at a rapid pace. Our goal is to enhance our proven scientific capabilities and current global platform, ultimately seeking opportunities to further advance reliable access to medicine and unlock shareholder value.

We regularly review the products we currently provide across different markets, which may periodically lead to expanded registration of products with unmet need or rationalization of products that are no longer viable or in demand. Throughout this process, we work to carefully consider the availability of alternatives for patients to avoid disruption of critical medications.

Deep In-House Development Capabilities and a Diverse Pipeline

We expect to expand further into development of more innovative molecules, including new chemical entities (NCEs) and improved versions of existing products, such as those filed through the U.S. FDA’s 505(b)(2) pathway.

We have a strong pipeline across eye care, complex injectables and novel products and more than 98% of expected new product launches by 2023 are either launched, approved or pending approval. During the past year, we integrated Oyster Point and Famy Life Sciences acquisitions and successfully created our Eye Care Division. Over 2023, we further advanced our pipeline across complex injectables, novel and complex products. We have a proven track record of delivering industry firsts that have enabled us to address some of the world’s most enduring health challenges.

In 2023, we advanced many new products addressing diverse needs, spanning generic medicines, improvements to existing molecules and novel products. We launched Breyna™ (budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate) Inhalation Aerosol, the first U.S. FDA-approved generic version of Symbicort® to use for certain patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We received positive top-line phase 3 trial results for Yupelri® (revefenacin) in China, an important step in advancing access to this treatment for COPD. The U.S. FDA approved RYZUMVI™1 (phentolamine ophthalmic solution) 0.75% eye drops for the treatment of pharmacologically induced mydriasis. We also received U.S. FDA tentative approval of a strawberry-flavored, single tablet regimen for oral suspension – the fixed-dose combination of abacavir, dolutegravir and lamivudine – that will reduce the pill burden for children living with HIV across low- and middle-income countries.

In 2024, we acquired the development programs and certain personnel related to Selatogrel and Cenerimod from Idorsia, a Swiss biotech company. This collaboration is an important step in expanding our portfolio of innovative assets with great potential to help bridge gaps in treatment. The products in development are Selatogrel, under investigation for the treatment of heart attacks, and Cenerimod, under investigation for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

In line with our mission, we look forward to leveraging our proven track record to pursue opportunities across our diverse portfolio and pipeline to bring access to new and improved treatments for the benefit of people worldwide.

As part of its supplier diversity program, AEG, a global leader in sports and live entertainment, is helping minority-owned businesses obtain vendor certification through its Vendor Stewardship Program.

The initiative is part of AEG’s broader commitment to creating a more diverse supply chain and aims to help minority-owned businesses gain the critical exposure they need to expand their client base.

Each year, AEG selects three vendors to participate in its Vendor Stewardship Program, offering the business owners financial help with the first year’s certification fees as well as guidance on the certification criteria, and what documentation is needed to complete the application.

For 2024, AEG selected three vendors who with the company’s help have achieved certification as Minority Business Enterprises:

Universal Art Gallery, a Latino-owned custom frame shopUprisers, a women-owned street wear companyTerminal B, a Black-owned scented candle business

“By helping BIPOC, veteran, LGBTQ+, and women-owned businesses navigate the certification process and understand its benefits, AEG opens new doors for these vendors, allowing them to expand their client base and access new markets,” said Christina Tulfo, Supplier Diversity Manager, AEG. “This support is invaluable for businesses that might otherwise struggle to overcome the initial hurdles of certification and growth.”

AEG’s Vendor Stewardship Program works closely with a number of national affinity groups that offer small vendors certification opportunities including the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and Veterans In Business Network.

Our people making a difference is a series featured throughout Owens Corning’s 2023 Sustainability Report.

With approximately 30 years’ experience at Owens Corning, SD Kim has an in-depth understanding of our operations in general and our Asan, South Korea, Roofing plant in particular. His expertise has been instrumental as we have sought to increase our positive impacts throughout the region, including our work to protect biodiversity around the plant. SD became especially interested in this topic after reviewing data provided by the Wildlife Habitat Council in 2022, and he has been actively involved in several projects that take concrete action toward our biodiversity aspirations.

On the importance of protecting biodiversity

When the Earth’s natural ecosystems maintain relationships with each other and achieve balance based on biodiversity, everything can flow more naturally. Protecting biodiversity is important globally as we work toward meeting the needs of today’s generations while preserving our world for future generations.

This goes beyond environmental issues — it relates to social ethics and morality as well as the sustainability and self-preservation of humanity. Efforts that preserve biodiversity are essential for companies and are valuable in terms of conserving nature and ensuring coexistence between humans and the planet. Therefore, we believe that sustainable management is critical for all companies that develop resources and utilize them for business.

On the initiatives underway at the Asan plant

I have shared the importance of protecting biodiversity with plant employees, and it has become part of our sustainability efforts. We have initiated several projects to protect birds, including the installation of film on office windows, which prevents collision. We also adjusted the angle of the streetlights so as not to obstruct the view of migrating birds.

In 2024, we will install birdhouses and noise reduction equipment. We are actively working on improving internal plant processes for reducing waste scrap and achieving zero waste-to-landfill using the Focused Improvement pillar of Total Productive Maintenance. In addition, we are installing solar panels on our roof in 2024, and we have targets to reduce energy intensity within the plant. Earth has a finite number of resources, and once they are gone, they cannot be used again. Therefore, we must take responsibility for sustainability and constantly think about it.

On tying biodiversity to the overall Owens Corning sustainability mission

Recently, interest in the environment, ecosystems, and animal welfare appears to be increasing, and people recognize a need for consumption to be more sustainable and ethical. Improving the environment has now become a necessity rather than an option. I believe that sustainability is not only my responsibility, but also the responsibility of Owens Corning. As a company, we are making great efforts in manufacturing with the recycling of waste across all our businesses, as well as energy reduction, developing environment-friendly products, and supporting communities. I feel these are all definitely connected to protecting biodiversity around the world.

Originally published on DICK’S Sporting Goods Sideline Report

DICK’S Sporting Goods believes sports change lives. Our teammates (employees) not only support athletes, we are athletes. That’s why more than 2,100 teammates companywide are currently participating in DICK’S first-ever Summer of Sport challenge.

Summer of Sport was created by the company’s teammate wellness program, Team Wellness, and Executive Vice President, Chief People & Purpose Officer Julie Lodge-Jarrett, after hearing about another leader’s experience with a summer fitness challenge at his previous company.

“We took the concept of tracking activity and transformed it DICK’S Sporting Goods style,” said Team Wellness Manager Kelly Jovenitti.

To celebrate the year DICK’S Sporting Goods was founded, participating teammates are encouraged to log at least 1,948 minutes of sports and/or fitness related activity between Memorial Day and Labor Day. That breaks down to about 20 minutes per day. Teammates log their minutes in activity trackers and complete monthly surveys to lock them in. Teammates who earn at least 1,948 minutes in the challenge receive a t-shirt and are entered into a raffle to win prizes.

Teammates completed their first challenge checkpoint to document minutes earned from May 27 through July 1. In just five weeks, nearly 1.7 million Summer of Sport minutes were logged! On top of that, a third of the teammates who completed the first checkpoint have already reached the 1,948 minutes goal.

“We didn’t really know what to expect with Summer of Sport,” Lodge-Jarrett said, “but these levels of participation and engagement have exceeded my hopes for sure!”

The true beauty of the challenge is that teammates can earn Summer of Sport minutes in ways that are meaningful to them.

For Dina DeVincentis, a floor planning analyst, that’s swimming. She started swimming at four-years-old and competed throughout school and in college. DeVincentis still competes and now coaches middle and high school students with Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics.

While relatively new to DICK’S Sporting Goods, DeVincentis said she wanted to give the organization a glimpse into her world and her sport.

“It’s great to give teammates a chance to shine a light on the sports they participate in and see what different types of athletes are at DICK’S,” DeVincentis said.

Software Engineer Matthew Miller is staying cool and logging his Summer of Sport minutes by playing hockey. After a pickup game with a friend, Miller signed up for a learn-to-play class eight years ago. This past June, he was in net for a tournament at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale, PA. Not only did Miller’s team win, but Miller was named tournament MVP!

“It was one of the highlights of my hockey ‘career’ so far,” Miller said.

Miller said Summer of Sport sounded like a good way to not only track his time on the ice, but also share his love of hockey with his teammates. He also said it’s inspiring to see teammates sharing their Summer of Sport journeys.

“It actually got me out to jog and use the running shoes I bought myself earlier this year,” said Miller.

Summer of Sport is also bringing teammates with similar passions together. Susan Ruiz and Samarah Soto from Store 697 in Bakersfield, CA love running but usually work opposite shifts and can’t go together. When Summer of Sport launched in May, they got the idea to start up a Store 697 Run Club!

“That same day I posted a sign-up sheet in our breakroom,” Ruiz said. “It started to fill up within a week!”

The group runs twice a week at different times of day, so teammates working different shifts have an opportunity to lace up their running shoes and join in.

“We love to see our teammates leaning on each other to achieve their goals and celebrate their passions,” said Lodge-Jarrett.

For many teammates, like Store Manager Leslie Ventura of Store 313 in Tinley Park, Illinois, Summer of Sport is not just a challenge for her, but her family too!

“My kids ask me every day if we can ‘get our minutes in,’” Ventura said. They love to go on adventure walks and pick new routes around their neighborhood.

“Summer of Sport is a great way to stay active and a fun, easy way to create memories with my family,” said Ventura.

Another way teammates are making memories and earning Summer of Sport minutes with family and friends is by attending sporting events in person.

“We’re not only encouraging teammates to physically participate in sports and/or fitness activity, but also encouraging them to support their local communities,” Jovenitti said.

From attending youth sporting events to MLB games and even international sports matches, teammates are finding ways to incorporate Summer of Sport into every day.

Jallayha Lagarda, assistant store manager of Store 1564 in Whitestown, IN made sure to log challenge minutes while on vacation with her husband in Arizona. In between visiting with family and friends, the pair made time to head to a Diamondbacks game.

“We love going to sports games when we can,” Lagarda said. “It’s a plus that while enjoying our love of sports together, I can also clock Summer of Sport minutes!”

Janet Merlino, administrative assistant at Store 110 in Greensburg, PA, echoed Lagarda’s sentiment. Merlino said she’s a true baseball mom at heart who has been traveling to watch her son play baseball for 25 years. This summer is no different, except now she’s logging Summer of Sport minutes at her son’s adult baseball league games!

“I’m able to earn my minutes while cheering him on with my family,” Merlino said.

While the challenge requires teammates to log their minutes, Jovenitti hopes they’re taking away much more than that as the challenge continues.

“We hope our teammates are able to see just how much they do in the sports and/or fitness world and can be proud of their accomplishments,” Jovenitti said.

So, will Summer of Sport return in 2025?

“Absolutely,” Lodge-Jarrett said, “we’re already planning!”
