Del Monte Foods, Inc. proudly announced that it received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the second consecutive year the company has earned a perfect score. Del Monte Foods joins the ranks of 545 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.

“At Del Monte Foods, we’re committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels that they truly belong and are valued for their contributions,” said Greg Longstreet, President and CEO. “We’re honored to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as a recipient of the Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion and celebrate this important achievement as we continue our work to advance inclusion as Growers of Good.”

“For well over two decades, businesses have played an important role in furthering LGBTQ+ equality by centering employee needs and voices when it comes to workplace inclusion. While there is much more work to be done, year-over-year growth in Corporate Equality Index participation is evidence of a business community that recognizes the responsibility and value in upholding equity and inclusion,” said RaShawn “Shawnie” Hawkins, Human Rights Campaign Senior Director of Workplace Equality. “Our goal at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is to work in a spirit of partnership with companies, providing educational resources and leading benchmarking, and collaborating on ways for businesses to support the LGBTQ+ community at a time when we face unprecedented legislative attacks, heightened anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and physical violence. The CEI is an ever-evolving tool — a blueprint that companies can use to show up more effectively in supporting their LGBTQ+ employees and their families.”

The results of the 2023-2024 CEI showcase how 1,384 U.S.-based companies are promoting LGBTQ+ friendly workplace policies in the U.S. and abroad. A record-breaking 1,340 businesses have non-discrimination protections specific to gender identity, up from just 17 in 2002. These critical non-discrimination protections cover 21 million employees in the U.S. and around the globe.

Del Monte Foods’ efforts in satisfying all the CEI’s criteria earned a score of 100 and the designation as a recipient of the Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion.

The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

Non-discrimination policies across business entities;Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families;Supporting an inclusive culture; and,Corporate social responsibility.

As active contributors to the community, Frito-Lay and Quaker’s commitment to service is rooted in a strong drive to make a long-lasting positive impact. This has led to consistent investment in scalable partnerships and localized initiatives focused on enhancing economic opportunities, supporting racial equality, and contributing sustainable solutions for addressing food insecurity. The impact reflected in the past year serves as the foundation for continued support throughout 2024.

Employees drive forward Frito-Lay and Quaker’s mission to deliver more smiles and a brighter future with every bite. In 2023, over 34 million bags of product were donated to organizations across the U.S., while more than 2,000 Frito-Lay and Quaker employees served nearly 12,500 volunteer hours across 150 local community activations nationwide.

Supporting community means ensuring the next generation of leaders are set up for success. Last year, nearly 400,000 students were supported through the delivery of food and essential supplies. In the spirit of enriching young minds, Frito-Lay also launched its first-ever Community Builder Scholarship program, distributing $100,000 to uplift students who give back to their local communities.

Collaborating with industry-leading non-profits helps to expand outreach for impactful community activations. In partnership with Feed the Children, over 275,000 meals were delivered to 260 schools, increasing school attendance and student confidence. As long-standing partners with GENYOUth’s award-winning Mission 57 program, grab and go meal carts were donated to high-need schools across Arizona to serve 8.5 million school meals to over 31,000 students through Frito-Lay’s partnership. Additionally, Frito-Lay partnered with LULAC National Education Service Centers to fund the P.U.E.N.T.E.S. program in six cities across the U.S., providing over 200 families with the tools and resources they need to help bridge the language and technology digital divide.

Creating smiles through service is at the heart of Frito-Lay and Quaker, whether it be the ones formed between frontline workers or the communities where they reside.

February 7, 2024 /3BL/ – Major businesses, employers, and trade groups applaud a new agreement between eight states and Washington, D.C. to collectively work to reduce climate pollution from buildings in the coming years.

California, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington, D.C. today signed a memorandum of understanding outlining their collective efforts to accelerate the deployment of clean technologies such as heat pumps in new and existing homes. The agreement comes amid a surge in corporate support for collaboration among state governments to tackle planet-warming pollution from homes, offices, factories, and other buildings, which account for 40% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

“At Eaton, our intelligent power management solutions and services are the cornerstone of the energy transition—enabling customers across industries to identify and act on opportunities to reduce environmental impact,” said Chris Hess, Vice President – global public affairs at Eaton. “We applaud this collaboration among states to leverage innovative new technologies to drive emissions reduction and energy resiliency. From enabling the electrification of homes to reimagining the possibilities of building energy systems, we’re proud to lead the charge and collaborate with our customers, industry partners, and policymakers to accelerate a sustainable future that is resilient, efficient, and secure.”

“At A.O. Smith, we are leading the way in pioneering clean and efficient building solutions. We have seen firsthand the many benefits these technologies bring to homeowners, renters, businesses, and other ratepayers — as well as the climate,” said Joshua C. Greene, corporate vice president – government, regulatory, and industry affairs, A.O. Smith Corp. “We applaud state action to pragmatically decarbonize buildings, and today are proud to support the collaborative action by eight states and Washington, D.C. that will aggressively cut pollution, modernize homes and offices, and reduce utility costs across the country.”

“Clean, energy efficient buildings can provide important cost saving benefits for households and businesses, while reducing pollution that harms communities and the climate,” said Savannah Bertrand, policy outreach manager, Sealed. “Sealed supports innovative policies that help people make their homes more comfortable, healthy, and sustainable, and we are excited that states are committed to working together to advance these solutions.”

Businesses support clean building policies that confront the risks of climate change with efficient technologies that reduce costs and energy waste — benefiting the climate, the electric grid, and the economy.

More than 20 companies, trade groups, and employers have called for “collective state action to decarbonize the building sector and accelerate market adoption of energy saving technologies” in a letter to governors. Signatories include both major building solution providers and large energy consumers, such as A.O. Smith, Carrier, IKEA, Johnson Controls, JLL, Lutron, Schneider Electric, Sealed, Siemens, Trane Technologies, and others.

“Bold action by state leaders is urgently needed to send clear, long-term economic signals to manufacturers, developers, building and business owners, and residents alike. Building decarbonization is essential to our ambitious climate goals and overall air quality and public health,” the signatories wrote. “We strongly support the execution of multi-state collaborative approaches to develop and implement market-enabling initiatives that unlock the long-term savings, and climate and clean air benefits of building decarbonization.”

The memorandum of understanding signed today was organized by the nonprofit Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management. It includes goals to ensure that heat pumps account for 65% of residential-scale heating system installations by 2030 and 90% by 2040, and it calls on states to collaborate on developing policies and programs to clean up the building sector, track progress toward their goals, ensure disadvantaged and energy-burdened communities are included in the process, and more. It comes just months after 25 governors committed to work together at Climate Week NYC 2023 to reduce building-related pollution, an announcement that was also met with strong corporate support.

“State policy is critical to accelerating the adoption of building technologies that are good for the climate and good for business. Initiatives that encourage collaboration across state lines to develop best practices are essential to accelerating this transition,” said Alli Gold Roberts, senior director of state policy, Ceres. “Ceres and the companies we work with applaud today’s memorandum of understanding for its detailed, collaborative, and ambitious approach to cut pollution from the building sector.”

The Hygiene and health company Essity has once again been awarded a place on CDP’s ‘A List’ for its leadership in corporate transparency and performance on forests by the global non-profit environmental organization CDP.

Based on data reported through CDP’s 2023 Forests questionnaire, Essity is one of a small number of companies that achieved an ‘A’ – out of over 21,000 companies scored.

With its ambitious efforts to prevent deforestation and promote responsible forestry, Essity is a leader in terms of its objectives, actions, and transparency in the environmental field. One of the ways Essity works to combat deforestation is through the Consumer Goods Forum and its Forest Positive Coalition of Action, in which Essity, together with other companies and organizations, systematically addresses deforestation and forest destruction and promotes biodiversity.

“Responsible fiber sourcing and forest management is central to Essity to prevent deforestation. We are also innovating to use less wood fiber investing in alternative fibers. In Mannheim, Germany, Essity has the first production facility in the world that uses wheat pulp on a large scale to produce tissue. A breakthrough innovation that makes us less dependent on wood fiber and reduces our impact on the environment,” says Magnus Groth, President and CEO of Essity.

CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and its annual environment-related data collection and assessment process is widely recognized as the leading benchmark when it comes to ensuring the transparency of companies’ environmental activities.

TARRYTOWN, N.Y., February 7, 2024 /3BL/ – KeyBank announces a two-year, $100,000 community impact grant made through KeyBank Foundation to Make The Road New York, the largest participatory immigrant organization in New York. The grant will help sustain the organization’s Westchester Adult Education Project, which educates low-income immigrant adults in Westchester with English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Civics classes. With KeyBank’s funding, the program will be able to serve at least 40 ESOL students each year, helping them improve their communication skills to better integrate into the community and live more economically stable and healthier lives.

Students served by the Westchester Adult Education Project are from Mexico, Guatemala and across Central and South America, many working in low-wage jobs with lack of access to healthcare and experiencing housing instability. ESOL classes support students to learn English so they can advocate for their rights at work, interact with healthcare providers, help their children with schooling, and more. Civics classes support eligible students to prepare for their citizenship exams. KeyBank’s funds will be used for program implementation including personnel.

Westchester Adult Education Project student Edna Contreras is very grateful for KeyBank’s support. “The (ESOL) classes have helped me improve my communication skills and now I am able to have a fluent conversation with my doctor, at work with my boss, and with the teachers at my son’s school,” she said. “A new grant from the KeyBank Foundation will enable these classes to continue to help dozens more immigrants in Westchester learn English, get better jobs, and navigate life in New York.”

Make The Road New York annually serves 30,000 immigrants from across the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New York City. Their centers are neighborhood hubs providing educational programs, as well as wraparound services such as immigration legal services, computer and financial literacy, employment training and job placement, health insurance and benefits enrollment, and more.

“KeyBank believes in doing our part to improve the lives of disadvantaged populations in our neighborhoods through education, workforce development, and community investment,” said KeyBank Market President John Manginelli. “As a company recognized for our strong Diversity, Equity and Inclusion culture, we welcome people of all cultures to our community and are proud to help support their successful assimilation.”

KeyBank’s grant to Make The Road New York is part of the bank’s $40 billion community investments plan focused on economic access and equity to communities across the country. The scope of the plan includes investments and lending in affordable housing, home lending, small business lending, green initiatives, and transformative philanthropy targeted toward workforce development, education, and safe, vital neighborhoods for underserved communities and populations.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy brought together a diverse network of energy professionals representing every energy career field during its 2023 Energy Policy Summit held in Washington, D.C. in December. The AABE is a non-profit organization that promotes the advancement of Blacks and other minorities in the energy industry. The Summit serves as a platform for amplifying the voices of people of color on energy policy matters and attracts excellent speakers. By fostering valuable dialogue with policy leaders, the Summit addresses economic opportunities and their impact on underserved communities.

The 2023 Summit theme was “Expedient and Equitable Implementation,” and attendees heard from members of Congress, key congressional staffers, federal officials, policy experts and industry colleagues regarding the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act and other energy-related legislation.

During the Summit, remarks and panel discussions covered topics related to our national clean energy transition, including successful sustainable solutions, the impact of U.S. foreign policy and how we can collaborate to ensure a just and prosperous energy future for all. AABE is a key local and national stakeholder that serves as a partner for the company on energy policies, regulations, emerging technologies, and environmental issues.

Entergy served as a Gold Sponsor of the 2023 Energy Policy Summit, and Senior Vice President of External Affairs John Hudson delivered remarks introducing the new President and CEO of the Edison Electric Institute, Dan Brouillette, and U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

“The AABE Energy Policy Summit discussed current challenges to expedient implementation in the energy transition and amplified diverse voices for building an inclusive and equitable future,” said Hudson. “Entergy’s sponsorship of the conference helped AABE deliver this vital conversation for resilient, sustainable and equitable communities. Together, we’re shaping a cleaner energy landscape that benefits us all. We look forward to engaging in and continuing to champion our communities at these types of events in the months and years ahead.”

Our participation in the event allowed members of the Entergy team to be part of this important industry-wide conversation while also giving us the opportunity to share information about our work and the importance of federal funding to help our communities become more resilient, sustainable and equitable through the clean energy transition.

We are also proud to sponsor the AABE National 47th Conference in April of 2024, where Entergy executives including Senior Vice President of External Affairs and President John Hudson and Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer David Ellis will give remarks and share their expertise in panel discussions on topics such as energy equity and environmental justice and how to leverage federal infrastructure funding opportunities to invest in our communities. Learn more about how we are building a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable energy future for everyone at entergy.com/future.

Although AABE’s mission is to support Black professionals in the energy industry, the organization welcomes and encourages membership from individuals of all races who share its values and goals. AABE recognizes that promoting diversity and inclusion benefits everyone in the energy sector, and it actively seeks to engage with a broad range of individuals and organization to advance its mission. AABE’s focus is on creating a more diverse and inclusive industry for all, and it welcomes anyone who is committed to that goal.
