– October 6 YouTube premiere featuring Sway Calloway, Howard “H” White and leading medical and cultural voices anchors community education nationwide

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BridgeBio Pharma, Inc. (Nasdaq: BBIO) (the “Company” or “BridgeBio”), a commercial-stage, multi-product biopharmaceutical company focused on genetic diseases, today announced a nationwide education effort with community partners to increase awareness of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy, also called ATTR cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CM). ATTR-CM is an underrecognized cause of heart failure that occurs when TTR, a protein that plays an essential role in the transport of vitamin A and thyroxine, becomes unstable, breaks down and builds up in the heart, causing it to become thicker and stiffer and making it harder to pump blood effectively. Because symptoms may resemble more common heart conditions or be dismissed as normal aging, ATTR-CM can be overlooked or identified later in the disease journey.

The effort will begin with an October 6 YouTube premiere and continue through community conversations and educational programming leading up to World Amyloidosis Day on October 26.

The premiere features a candid conversation on Black men’s heart health and ATTR-CM moderated by veteran broadcaster, Sway Calloway. The panel includes sports executive, author, philanthropist and ATTR-CM advocate, Howard “H” White; Albert J. Hicks III, M.D., MPH, Director of Cardiopulmonary Care and Heart/Lung Transplant at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma; and Hip Hop Public Health (HHPH) Founding Artist and Founder, Doug E. Fresh and HHPH Founder and Board Chair, Olajide Williams, M.D., M.S., who serve as Community and Health Education Partners for the initiative. The program will premiere October 6 at 6:00 pm EDT at HowardWhiteStory.com/premiere.

The nationwide effort is supported by community partners including the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF), 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Inc. and the National Medical Association (NMA). Partners will host or support viewings and related educational programming at 40 locations nationwide, including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, and Washington D.C.

“ATTR-CM deserves greater attention as part of the cardiovascular health conversation, particularly for Black Americans who may be at increased risk. We’re proud to support BridgeBio in helping patients, families and healthcare professionals recognize when there may be more to a heart failure diagnosis,” said Kevin Kwaku, M.D., Ph.D., President of the Association of Black Cardiologists.

“Approximately 1 in 25 Black Americans carries a genetic variant associated with ATTR-CM, and too often the diagnosis comes only after the heart has already been significantly affected,” said Uma Sinha, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer at BridgeBio. “Our understanding of this progressive disease has moved faster than awareness of it. Shortness of breath, fatigue, and carpal tunnel in both wrists can be written off as aging or as a more common form of heart failure, and years can pass before anyone names the real cause. Putting clinicians, cultural leaders and Howard ‘H’ White’s lived experience in the same room, alongside partners rooted in these communities, is how we close this gap.”

At the center of the conversation is White, who is living with ATTR-CM and founded the Howard H. White Center for Cardiac Amyloidosis. Drawing on his own journey from symptoms to diagnosis, he has become a prominent voice for recognizing changes in one’s health, speaking up and advocating for answers.

As the Community and Health Education Partners, Dr. Williams and Doug E. Fresh reinforced the importance of moving health conversations from awareness to action, particularly through trusted voices, culture and community.

“At Hip Hop Public Health, we know that people are more likely to engage with health information when it is relevant to their lives and delivered through voices and cultural touchpoints they trust. Our goal is to make these conversations accessible and actionable, so people feel empowered to recognize changes in their health, ask questions and advocate for themselves and their families,” said Dr. Williams.

ATTR-CM exists in two forms: wild-type disease associated with aging and hereditary, or variant, disease passed through families. Certain variants are more commonly carried by people of African ancestry. Approximately 1 in 25 Black Americans in the United States carries the V142I, also known as V122I, variant associated with ATTR-CM, although not everyone who carries the variant will develop the disease.1–3

“ATTR-CM can hide in plain sight because its symptoms often mirror heart failure we see every day. For Black patients, particularly those with ancestry-linked risk, knowing when to look beyond the familiar diagnosis can change the course of the disease,” said Dr. Hicks.

The discussion also examines broader cardiovascular disparities affecting Black Americans and why greater awareness, earlier recognition and conversations with healthcare providers matter.

Watch the premiere on October 6 at 6:00 pm EDT at HowardWhiteStory.com/premiere.

Final delivery and training under LAND 159 Tranche 1 supports Australian Army sniper capability

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Leonardo DRS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DRS) has completed final training and delivery for the Improved Night/Day Observation Device (INOD) Block III thermal weapon sights provided to the Australian Army under the LAND 159 Tranche 1 program.

The INOD Block III is a clip-on thermal weapon sight designed to help snipers and special operations forces detect, identify and engage targets in low-light and degraded visual conditions, including darkness, smoke, haze and adverse weather. Mounted in front of an existing direct-view optic, the system is designed to preserve the operator’s zeroed scope and is compatible with magnifications from 5x to greater than 25x.

“Completing delivery and training for the Australian Army is an important milestone for our team,” said Jerry Hathaway, senior vice president and general manager of Leonardo DRS Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems business unit. “The INOD Block III provides a thermal sighting capability intended to support sniper operations in demanding conditions, and the training helps ensure personnel are prepared to operate and maintain the system.”

The sight uses a micro-cooled, 640-by-480 mid-wave infrared focal plane array to provide thermal imagery and target discrimination in conditions that can limit conventional optics.

Designed for sustained field use, the system uses lithium batteries with hot-swap capability, allowing battery changes without interrupting operation. The sight can also use external power for extended static-surveillance tasks. A rear-facing focus knob, wired remote control and glove-compatible, one-handed operation support use in field conditions.

For the Australian Army, the LAND 159 Tranche 1 acquisition represents a step-change in long-range lethality. Australian snipers will now carry the same generation of thermal sight currently fielded with U.S. Army Special Operations Forces, strengthening interoperability with Australia’s primary alliance partner across joint and coalition operations. Beyond the hardware, DRS provided hands-on training to Australian Army personnel to support operation and maintenance of the systems. The company is a provider of individual weapon sights and thermal targeting systems to the U.S. Army. The INOD family is part of DRS’s thermal sighting portfolio, which also includes the Family of Weapon Sights program.

Australian defense company NIOA is the prime contractor for LAND 159 Tranche 1 and managed local program coordination and delivery logistics on behalf of the Australian Army.

ORIC-259 is a potential first-in-class small molecule mRNA degrader targeting CIP2A, a previously undruggable target

Cancer Research UK to fully fund, sponsor, design, and execute CTA-enabling studies and Phase 1/2 clinical development

ORIC retains exclusive option to reacquire rights to ORIC-259 following Phase 1/2 data

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and SAN DIEGO, Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ORIC Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ORIC), a clinical stage oncology company focused on developing and commercializing treatments that address mechanisms of therapeutic resistance, today announced an agreement with Cancer Research UK, one of the world’s largest funders of cancer research, to advance a potential first-in-class CIP2A-targeted therapy into clinical development.

Under the agreement, Cancer Research UK’s Centre for Drug Development (CDD) will fully fund, sponsor, design, and execute CTA-enabling studies and early clinical development of ORIC-259 for patients with cancer. ORIC retains an option to reacquire rights to ORIC-259 following Phase 1/2 data, with Cancer Research UK eligible to receive downstream milestone payments and royalties.

Cancerous Inhibitor of PP2A (CIP2A) is a protein that contributes to the development and progression of many cancer types due to its role in protein phosphorylation, mitosis, and DNA damage response. ORIC-259 is a potent, selective, orally bioavailable small molecule degrader of CIP2A mRNA. This potential first-in-class mRNA degrader is designed to modify mRNA splicing to incorporate a premature stop codon, leading to mRNA degradation and loss of CIP2A protein, which is critical for cell proliferation and survival of cancers with homologous recombination deficiency (HRD). Promising preclinical data highlight robust antitumor activity in PARP inhibitor sensitive and resistant settings, indicating broad potential for patients with HRD cancers, and supports the path to clinical development for ORIC-259.

“We are excited to partner with Cancer Research UK to advance ORIC-259, a potential first-in-class CIP2A-targeted therapy, into the clinic,” said Lori Friedman, PhD, chief scientific officer. “Cancer Research UK’s proven expertise and capabilities in developing innovative cancer therapies make it an ideal partner for the program, while this structure allows us to remain disciplined in allocating our internal resources to our late-stage clinical pipeline.”

“ORIC-259 represents an innovative approach to targeting CIP2A, a protein with significant potential in cancer but one that has proven difficult to drug,” said Lars Erwig, Director of the CDD. “We share ORIC’s mission to overcome treatment resistance in cancer, and we look forward to applying our expertise to explore new treatment options for patients.”
