  • The BB-301 pivotal trial remains on track to begin in mid-2027
  • Discussions regarding an open-label, single-arm, pivotal study for BB-301 are ongoing, and based on these discussions, the FDA requested additional available data, including data from the Benitec-sponsored OPMD Natural History Study
  • Final pivotal study design expected to be confirmed in 1Q 2027
  • Benitec will present interim clinical results from the ongoing BB-301 Phase 1b/2a study as a late-breaking poster presentation, which will encompass 12-month follow-up data for all six Cohort 1 patients and interim follow-up data for all three Cohort 2 patients, at the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ESGCT) Annual Congress in Hamburg, Germany, October 27-30, 2026

HAYWARD, Calif., Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Benitec Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ: BNTC) (“Benitec” or the “Company”), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing disease-modifying genetic medicines based on its proprietary “Silence and Replace” DNA-directed RNA interference (ddRNAi) platform, today announced the receipt of formal feedback from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) following the Type C meeting in 3Q 2026.

Discussions regarding an open-label, single-arm, pivotal study for BB-301 are ongoing, and based on these discussions, the FDA requested additional available data, including data from the Benitec-sponsored OPMD Natural History Study. The FDA has agreed to review the relevant information on a timeline that would allow Benitec to confirm the final pivotal study design in 1Q 2027.

Timelines for the BB-301 pivotal study remain on track. Patient enrollment is planned to begin in mid-2027.

“We greatly appreciate the collaboration from the FDA and are encouraged by the constructive nature of our discussions” said Jerel A. Banks, M.D., Ph.D., Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Benitec. “The OPMD natural history study was designed from the outset to provide a rigorous foundation for the clinical development of BB-301, and the additional available data requested by the Agency represent an important final component of this ongoing development work. We look forward to providing these data to the FDA in the coming weeks and confirming the pivotal study design for BB-301 in the first quarter of 2027. With the comprehensive body of clinical and natural history data generated to date, we remain on track to initiate the pivotal study in mid-2027 and are focused on advancing BB-301 toward becoming the first approved disease-modifying therapy for patients living with OPMD-related dysphagia.”

Benitec will present interim clinical results from the ongoing BB-301 Phase 1b/2a study as a late-breaking poster presentation, which will encompass 12-month follow-up data for all six Cohort 1 patients and interim follow-up data for all three Cohort 2 patients, at the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ESGCT) Annual Congress in Hamburg, Germany, October 27-30, 2026.

About OPMD

There are currently no approved therapies for OPMD, a rare autosomal-dominant degenerative muscle disorder, that impacts nearly 15,000 patients in North America, Europe and Israel. OPMD is caused by a mutation in the poly(A)-binding protein nuclear 1 (PABPN1) gene; PABPN1 is a ubiquitous protein that controls the length of mRNA poly(A) tails, mRNA export from the nucleus and alternative poly(A) site usage. OPMD is a debilitating progressive disease that weakens the pharyngeal muscles, causing severe swallowing difficulties (dysphagia).1 Progressive dysphagia impacts 97% of OPMD patients and is a severe, life-threatening complication of OPMD which can lead to chronic choking, malnutrition, aspiration pneumonia and death.

About BB-301

BB-301 is a novel, modified AAV9 capsid expressing a unique, single bifunctional construct promoting co-expression of both codon-optimized Poly-A Binding Protein Nuclear-1 (PABPN1) and two small inhibitory RNAs (siRNAs) against mutant PABPN1 (the causative gene for OPMD). The two siRNAs are modeled into microRNA backbones to silence expression of faulty mutant PABPN1, while allowing expression of the codon-optimized PABPN1 to replace the mutant with a functional version of the protein. BB-301 is administered locally, in a one-time procedure, to the muscles in the throat that drive the swallowing process, an approach designed to maximize local benefit and minimize systemic exposure. We believe the silence and replace mechanism of BB-301 is uniquely positioned for the treatment of OPMD by halting mutant PABPN1 expression while simultaneously providing a functional replacement protein. BB-301 has received Orphan Drug Designation from the EMA and Orphan Drug and Fast Track Designations from the FDA and is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1b/2a, first-in-human, open-label dose escalation study to evaluate the safety and clinical activity of intramuscular doses of BB-301 administered to subjects with OPMD (NCT06185673).

About Benitec Biopharma Inc.

Benitec Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ: BNTC) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing disease-modifying genetic medicines designed to improve the lives of people with life-threatening, genetically defined diseases. The company’s proprietary “Silence and Replace” DNA-directed RNA interference (ddRNAi) platform combines RNA interference, or RNAi, with gene therapy to create medicines designed to facilitate sustained silencing of disease-causing genes and simultaneous delivery of replacement genes that restore normal cellular function following a single administration. The company’s lead investigational candidate, BB-301, is the first and only disease-modifying genetic medicine in clinical development for the treatment of Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD)-related dysphagia.

About SeaStar Medical

SeaStar Medical is a commercial-stage healthcare company focused on transformational treatments for critically ill patients facing organ failure and potential loss of life. SeaStar Medical’s first commercial product, QUELIMMUNE (SCD-PED), was approved in 2024 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is the only FDA approved product for the ultra-rare condition of life-threatening Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) due to sepsis or a septic condition requiring renal replacement therapy (RRT) in critically ill pediatric patients. SeaStar Medical’s Selective Cytopheretic Device (SCD) therapy has been awarded Breakthrough Device Designation for six therapeutic indications by the FDA, enabling the potential for a speedier pathway to approval and preferable reimbursement dynamics at commercial launch. SeaStar Medical is currently conducting the NEUTRALIZE-AKI pivotal clinical trial of its SCD therapy in adult patients with AKI requiring continuous renal replacement therapy, a life-threatening condition with no effective treatment options that impacts over 200,000 adults in the U.S. annually.

ABOUT LOWHEE ZONE

Geological mapping and geochemical sampling were carried out on Barkerville Mountain from 2017-2018, with the Lowhee Zone identified as a high-priority drill target. From 2019 to 2022, a total of 167 surface drill holes were completed, totaling 54,494.5 m.

The Lowhee Zone is accessed through the Cow portal on the northwestern flank of Barkerville Mountain (Figure 3 and Figure 4). Cow portal construction was completed in Q4 2024 and development of the underground ramp into the Lowhee Zone commenced in Q1 2025. The probable mineral reserves estimate for the Lowhee Zone (with an effective date of April 10, 2025) includes 104,491 ounces of contained Au (923,162 tonnes grading 3.52 g/t Au) and represents approximately 5% of the total contained gold in the estimated probable mineral reserves for the Cariboo Gold Project.

ABOUT CARIBOO GOLD PROJECT

The Cariboo Gold Project is a permitted, 100%-owned feasibility-stage project currently under construction located in the historic Wells-Barkerville mining camp of central British Columbia, Canada. Spanning approximately 186,740 hectares, the Company’s land package includes 443 mineral titles and covers an area that extends approximately 77 kilometres from northwest to southeast. In late 2024, the Project was granted the Mines Act and Environmental Management Act (British Columbia) permits, marking the successful completion of the permitting process for key approvals. On September 14, 2026, the Company announced a formal positive decision to proceed with the construction of the Project, with an expected first gold pour in Q1 2029 and commercial production in H2 2029.

Qualified Persons

The scientific and technical information in this news release has been reviewed, verified and approved by Scott Smith, P. Geo., Vice President, Exploration of Osisko Gold, a “qualified person” within the meaning of NI 43-101. Verification includes core photo and three-dimensional review of logged drillhole data and assays consistent with the Company’s standard procedures.

Quality Assurance (QA) – Quality Control (QC)

All drill core was whole core sampled in on-site logging facilities following daily QAQC checks for logging and sampling errors. Quality control (QC) samples are inserted at regular intervals in the sample stream, including blanks and reference materials with all sample shipments to monitor laboratory performance. Samples are bagged, labelled, sealed with numbered security tags.

Samples are taken by expeditor from the logging facilities direct to MSALABS’s analytical facility in Prince George, B.C., Canada, for preparation and analysis. MSALABS is independent of the Company. The MSALABS facility is accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for gold assays, and all analytical methods include quality control materials at set frequencies with established data acceptance criteria. The entire sample is dried, crushed, and split into sealed containers. Analysis for gold is by gamma ray analysis using the Chrysos PhotonAssay (PA1408X). Samples are bombarded with gamma rays and the resulting signal is sent to the detectors.

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Syntec Optics Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTX) (“Syntec Optics” or the “Company”), a leading provider of deep-tech products to defense, space, and AI data centers, today announced recurring production orders for actuators in NASA’s Artemis III rockets.

Rockets need absolute precision to stay on a course full of adversity—like a unicyclist on a tightrope in a hurricane. Syntec Optics makes the ultra-precise products inside rocket actuators that keep those heavy engines locked on trajectory.

As NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman fast-tracks and modernizes America’s space infrastructure toward a $20B Moon base for mining, data centers, and future fusion fuel, the global rocket market is surging from $10.5 billion in 2023 to $24.4 billion by 2030.

“We feel privileged to bridge generations,” said Matt Carey, VP of Business Development. “We are working side-by-side with the pioneers of the Apollo and Space Shuttle eras to create the modern hardware that will return humanity to the Moon. Unlike the old Apollo visits, which seemed like short trips to win a space race, this new push aims to stay.”

With the Artemis III mission strategy evolving to include rigorous Earth-orbit practice tests for landers and docking systems ahead of the lunar landing, Syntec is locking in years of recurring orders.

“NASA’s strategic pivot establishes a foundation of predictable, high-value orders, immediately boosting our space tech backlog further by 10% and positioning our lunar products for exponential growth as moon missions accelerate,” noted CFO Dean Rudy.

A new patent application covers Polyrizon’s proprietary mucoadhesive platform and its potential applications in nasal drug delivery.

Raanana, Israel, Oct. 05, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —  Polyrizon Ltd. (Nasdaq: PLRZ) (the “Company” or “Polyrizon”), a clinical-stage biotechnology company specializing in the development of innovative intranasal hydrogels, today announced that it has filed a new U.S. divisional patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), further expanding the Company’s intellectual property portfolio relating to its proprietary mucoadhesive technology.

The divisional application, titled “Mucoadhesive Polymers for Nasal Drug Delivery,” was assigned U.S. Patent Application No. 19/823,285.

The new application is part of Polyrizon’s broader patent family covering its proprietary mucoadhesive polymer technology. The technology is based on polymeric compositions designed for application to mucosal surfaces and capable of forming a continuous and durable layer upon contact with mucosal tissue.

The underlying technology is designed to support a range of potential applications, including the use of mucoadhesive formulations as a platform for the local or systemic delivery of therapeutic agents through mucosal tissues, including the nasal mucosa. The patent family describes the potential incorporation of therapeutic active ingredients into the mucoadhesive compositions, providing a technological foundation for the development of intranasal drug delivery systems.

The divisional filing enables Polyrizon to pursue additional patent protection for distinct aspects and applications of its technology while maintaining its connection to the Company’s existing U.S. patent family.

Tomer Izraeli, Chief Executive Officer of Polyrizon, commented: “This new U.S. patent filing represents another step in strengthening the intellectual property foundation supporting our intranasal technology platform. We believe our mucoadhesive technology has potential beyond stand-alone barrier applications, particularly as a platform for delivering therapeutic agents through the nasal mucosa. Pursuing additional  patent protection for these applications is an important part of our strategy as we continue to explore the broader potential of our technology.”

Polyrizon continues to develop its proprietary mucoadhesive technology for both stand-alone intranasal products and potential drug delivery applications. The Company believes the ability of its platform to provide prolonged interaction with mucosal surfaces may offer opportunities for the development of new approaches to local and systemic intranasal delivery.

About Polyrizon

Polyrizon is a development stage biotech company specializing in the development of innovative medical device hydrogels delivered in the form of nasal sprays, which form a thin hydrogel-based shield containment barrier in the nasal cavity that can provide a barrier against viruses and allergens from contacting the nasal epithelial tissue. Polyrizon’s proprietary Capture and Contain TM, or C&C, hydrogel technology, comprised of a mixture of naturally occurring building blocks, is delivered in the form of nasal sprays, and potentially functions as a “biological mask” with a thin shield containment barrier in the nasal cavity. Polyrizon are further developing certain aspects of our C&C hydrogel technology such as the bioadhesion and prolonged retention at the nasal deposition site for intranasal delivery of drugs. Polyrizon refers to its additional technology, which is in an earlier stage of pre-clinical development, that is focused on nasal delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients, or APIs, as Trap and Target, or T&T.
