Fifth annual Horizons of Identity Security report reveals a 40x gap between AI adoption and identity security readiness

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today from its annual Navigate conference, SailPoint, Inc. (Nasdaq: SAIL), a leader in enterprise identity security, released its fifth annual Horizons of Identity Security report, revealing that enterprise AI adoption has dramatically outpaced the identity security controls needed to govern it. The study finds that while 79% of organizations are now running AI agents in production, a mere 2% are using identity security tools specifically designed to manage and govern them — a 40-to-1 gap that exposes businesses to significant risk.

This gap is driven by a stark divergence in security maturity between human and non-human identities. While organizations have made impressive strides with human security—nearly halving those at Horizon 1 maturity from 45% in 2022 to just 23% today—the explosion of autonomous AI agents has introduced a new deficit. Agent identity starts from a steep lag, with 54% of organizations currently sitting at Horizon 1. With AI agents already active in production, enterprises do not have the luxury of a five-year runway to catch up; they must compress a five-year human security curve into a one-year agent timeline.

Wendy Wu, Chief Marketing Officer at SailPoint, said:
“Compressing a five-year maturity curve into a single year presents a massive operational challenge, starting with a fundamental awareness gap. Many organizations don’t yet realize that they do not have the right tools purpose-built for the scale and velocity of agent and non-human identity security. You cannot bridge this gap by asking human-speed tools to work faster; security must be built for machine speed from the ground up, with discovery, ownership, and access decisions happening in real time rather than on a quarterly review cycle. Enterprises waiting for their agent programs to mature the way their human programs did are going to find out the hard way that they don’t have five years.”

Key findings:

  • AI adoption has severely outpaced security controls: AI agents now represent 22% of all non-human accounts, yet 85% of organizations continue to rely on legacy identity tools not designed for agentic identities.
  • Overall maturity remains anchored at foundational levels. Roughly sixty percent of organizations remain in Horizons 1 and 2, while less than 1% have achieved Horizon 5. This lag is overwhelmingly driven by non-human identity deficits: 87% rate their human IAM capabilities as capable or better, while only 43% report mature processes for agentic access.
  • A pronounced awareness gap masks operational vulnerability: 80% of leaders believe the gap in their current tooling is moderate or smaller, yet the operational reality is that only 15% can provision non-human access in real time. Similarly, 57% express confidence in meeting regulatory requirements, while only 43% feel prepared to produce verifiable evidence in an AI-related audit.
  • Foundations remain the primary operational roadblock. Before enterprises can realize dynamic, intent-based security, they must first master baseline hygiene and visibility. Credential lifecycle management, shadow AI discovery, and real-time monitoring are rated as severe operational hurdles across the market.
  • The business value of non-human identity security is immediate and measurable: Mature identity programs deliver significant business velocity. 62% of organizations that have invested in securing non-human identities report measurable productivity gains, and 46% report safer, faster AI deployment. Looking ahead, 76% of leaders expect stronger identity governance to improve their eligibility for — or the terms of — cyber insurance.

The report concludes that the mandate for security leaders is to move from a fragmented, human-centric approach to a unified identity fabric that governs all identity types—human, machine, and AI agent—with continuous, context-aware automation. By advancing from foundational tiers (Horizons 1-2)—where organizations struggle with manual controls and lack basic visibility—to advanced maturity (Horizons 4-5), enterprises gain the real-time visibility and automated policy enforcement needed to secure autonomous agents. This transition pays off well beyond basic compliance; mature organizations are twice as likely to realize significant productivity gains and three times more successful at deploying AI safely, effectively transforming compliance from a reactive audit scramble into a state of automated, continuous assurance. This is the only path to closing the security gap while enabling the full velocity of the autonomous enterprise.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., Oct. 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ArriVent BioPharma, Inc. (Company or ArriVent) (Nasdaq: AVBP), a clinical-stage company dedicated to accelerating the global development of innovative biopharmaceutical therapeutics, today announced that the FURVENT (NCT05607550) Phase 3 trial evaluating firmonertinib monotherapy in patients with previously untreated, locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations did not meet its primary endpoint of progression free survival (PFS) by blinded independent central review (BICR). Clinical benefit was observed with secondary endpoints such as PFS by investigator’s assessment and confirmed objective response rate by BICR. Although not yet mature, a trend toward an improvement in overall survival was also observed.  The safety profile observed in FURVENT was consistent with previous clinical studies of firmonertinib, with no new safety signals identified.

“These disappointing results are not what we hoped for, particularly for the patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion-mutant NSCLC who urgently need more effective treatment options,” said Bing Yao, Ph.D., Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of ArriVent. “While the safety profile observed with firmonertinib was consistent with previous clinical studies, FURVENT did not show a meaningful improvement in PFS over chemotherapy by BICR in this study. We are deeply grateful to the patients, investigators and clinical teams who made this program possible and are evaluating the full FURVENT dataset as we determine the most appropriate development path for firmonertinib.”

About FURVENT
FURVENT (NCT05607550) is a global, pivotal 3 arm Phase 3 clinical trial of firmonertinib in first-line non-squamous locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC patients with exon 20 insertion mutations being conducted jointly with our partner Allist. The FURVENT clinical trial is designed to assess the safety and efficacy of firmonertinib administered at either 160 mg or 240 mg, once-daily with each dose being compared to platinum-based chemotherapy with pemetrexed, the current first-line standard of care. The primary endpoint of this study is PFS by BICR per RECIST 1.1. Secondary endpoints include overall survival (OS), PFS by investigator’s assessment, confirmed objective response rate by BICR, and in patients with brain metastases at baseline, brain-specific CNS overall response rate (CNS-ORR) and CNS-PFS by modified RECIST (mRECIST). The study enrolled 398 patients globally, including from sites in the United States, Europe and certain Asian countries including Japan and China.

About Firmonertinib
Firmonertinib is an oral, highly brain-penetrant, and broadly active mutation-selective epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor active against both classical and uncommon EGFR mutations, including PACC and exon 20 insertion mutations. Firmonertinib is approved in China for first-line advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR exon 19 deletion or L858R mutations, with previously treated locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC with EGFR T790M mutation, both known as EGFR classical mutations, as well as for with exon 20 insertion mutations who have experienced disease progression during or after platinum-containing chemotherapy, or who are intolerant to platinum-containing chemotherapy.

Firmonertinib was granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the treatment of patients with previously untreated locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous NSCLC with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations. Firmonertinib was also granted U.S. FDA Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of NSCLC with EGFR mutations or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) mutations or HER4 mutations.

Firmonertinib is currently being studied in a global Phase 3 trial for first-line NSCLC patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations (FURVENT; NCT05607550) and in a global Phase 3 study in first line NSCLC patients with EGFR PACC mutations (ALPACCA; NCT07185997).

About EGFR mutant NSCLC
Globally, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women. NSCLC is the predominant subtype of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all cases. Mutational activation of the EGFR is a frequent and early event in the development of NSCLC. EGFR mutations are divided into classical and uncommon. EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations are a group of uncommon EGFR mutations and constitute approximately 9% of all EGFR mutations. PACC mutations are another group of uncommon EGFR mutations and represent approximately 12% of all EGFR mutations. Patients with NSCLC whose tumors harbor uncommon EGFR mutations have significantly lower life expectancy with available therapies and represent an area of unmet medical need.

About ArriVent
ArriVent is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the identification, development, and commercialization of differentiated medicines to address the unmet medical needs of patients with cancers. ArriVent seeks to utilize its team’s deep drug development experience to maximize the potential of its lead development candidate, firmonertinib, and advance a pipeline of novel therapeutics, such as next-generation antibody drug conjugates, through approval and commercialization.

Expands product innovation across unified platform at Navigate 2026 delivering the industry’s first real-time defense to discover, govern and protect all human, machine and AI agent identities

Key Announcement Highlights:

  • Introducing SailPoint Autonomous Agents: SailPoint debuts three classes of Autonomous Agents that enforce policy, right-size privileges, and protect systems without disrupting legitimate business automation.
  • Autonomous Identity Security Posture Management (A-ISPM): New A-ISPM uses the live identity context in SailPoint Atlas to continuously uncover critical exposures across all identity types, then closes the loop with real-time remediation.
  • Expanded SailPoint Agentic and Human Fabrics: SailPoint expands its Agentic Fabric to map the entire AI agent surface area—enabling shadow AI discovery, runtime authorization, and instant ‘kill switch’ controls—while simultaneously advancing its Human Fabric with next-generation certifications and segmented identity data to give organizations finer-grained access governance.
  • Enhanced Atlas capabilities and Atlas Extensibility framework: New common services, SaaS plug-ins, and Workflow enhancements, including versioning, execution history, and serial loops of up to 1,000 iterations, make Atlas a more unified and extensible foundation for scaling identity security.
  • Zero Standing Privilege for humans and machines: New Just-in-Time (JIT) provisioning with conditions, plus effective privilege visibility, replaces always-on access for people, service accounts, and AI agents alike.

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today at Navigate 2026, its annual flagship conference, SailPoint, Inc. (Nasdaq: SAIL), a leader in enterprise identity security, announced significant new capabilities across SailPoint Agentic Fabric™ (SAF) and SailPoint Human Fabric™ (SHF), the two purpose-built products of its Identity Security solution, built on SailPoint Atlas. These innovations give enterprises what they need most in the agentic era: full visibility into every hidden AI tool, continuous compliance across human and machine workflows, the replacement of permanent access keys with temporary permissions, and the transformation of identity security from a static compliance check into real-time, automated defense.

According to the latest SailPoint Horizons of Identity Security report, 79% of enterprises are already running AI agents in production, yet only 2% have deployed identity security tools purpose-built to govern and secure them. Meanwhile, enterprises are stuck between static reviews that are outdated the moment they finish and posture dashboards that flag risks but can’t fix them.

Introducing SailPoint Autonomous Agents
When AI agents invoke MCP tool calls at machine speed, human review of every action is impossible. SailPoint announced Autonomous Agents, a fleet of specialized AI agents built to govern and protect the agentic ecosystem. Unlike generic tools that simply shut agents down when anomalies occur, Autonomous Agents use identity context to tell legitimate intent from malicious activity, stopping threats while keeping productive agents running. These Autonomous Agents actively govern the agentic lifecycle: continuously monitoring runtime actions, intercepting threats, and right-sizing permissions to enforce zero standing privilege at machine speed.

Matt Mills, President of SailPoint, said:
“Autonomous agents are no longer just experimental copilots; they are becoming the primary execution layer of modern enterprises. Enterprises cannot afford to slow down AI innovation out of fear, nor can they afford ungoverned access chaos. Moving beyond Zero Trust to Autonomous Identity allows organizations to master the converged human-plus-AI workforce, eliminate invisible risk, and innovate with complete confidence.”

Chandra Gnanasambandam, EVP of Product and Chief Technology Officer, said:
“The idea that a security admin is going to review and approve access for a group of autonomous agents making 10,000 tool calls a second isn’t just outdated—it’s a fantasy. The only way to govern autonomous machines is with autonomous machine defense. We’ve built Autonomous Agents so enterprises can stop the threat, save the good agents, and bring human and non-human identity into real-time. In a near-AGI world, standing privilege is dead.”

Autonomous Identity Security Posture Management (A-ISPM) goes beyond the dashboard
Using the live identity context in SailPoint Atlas, SailPoint’s new A-ISPM continuously detects dormant accounts, partially offboarded identities, orphaned access, shadow admins, and privileged outliers hidden deep in access paths. It then closes the loop on each organization’s terms, with remediation ranging from one-click fixes, such as revoking access, disabling an identity or AI agent, or assigning an owner, to fully automated policy enforcement.

New automation and global compliance upgrades
SailPoint is advancing global identity security with powerful new updates across its platform. The company introduced new updates to the SailPoint Atlas engine with advanced automation workflows to help enterprises scale security, while also launching IdentityIQ 9.0 to make everyday access governance simpler and more secure for business users. To support this growth, SailPoint is also expanding its global footprint—opening a new data center in South Korea and preparing to meet some of the strictest federal and financial compliance standards, including FedRAMP High, PCI DSS 4.0, and EU Sovereign Cloud.

Delivering four core customer outcomes through new innovations
SailPoint delivers autonomous identity and a host of customer benefits and improved security outcomes across its Identity Security platform. New product innovations showcased at Navigate enable customers to realize these four critical business outcomes:

  • Comprehensive discovery: Security teams can’t govern what they can’t see. Every agent, credential, and data store that never reach the identity program becomes access no one owns. New endpoint and browser sensors, SIEM and XDR telemetry, and vault and pipeline NHI discovery bring MCP servers, tools, credentials, and data stores into view. Data Access Security adds classification integrations with Microsoft Purview and BigID, plus new connectors for Atlassian Confluence, Google BigQuery, and AWS Redshift.
  • Enabling compliance: Auditors are asking how AI agents are governed, and most organizations can’t yet produce the evidence. New Agent Audit turns agent inventory and governance activity into framework-aligned evidence reports that can be exported in one action, customized, or scheduled, making audit preparation repeatable.
  • Strengthening security posture: Standing privilege is invisible risk. Every always-on account is an open door for attackers. Just-in-Time provisioning (JIT-P) grants access only when needed, with conditions such as business justification or reauthentication and activation through Slack or ServiceNow. Agentic Fabric delivers prompt monitoring with policy-based redaction and blocking and behavioral risk detection. Human Fabric features a CrowdStrike Foundry App and SecOps containment actions with a full audit trail.
  • Streamlining operations: Governance has become too admin-heavy, and manual processes can’t keep pace with the volume of human and agent access. Human Fabric will now offer next-generation access requests with an embedded Harbor Pilot Access Request Agent. The upcoming Harbor Pilot Policy Agent lets administrators explain and draft access policies for people and agents in plain language, and Agentic Fabric provides one-click agent lifecycle controls and an agent kill switch.

Platform milestone: SailPoint Agentic Fabric + Entro integration

Also announced during Navigate, the Entro Security integration into SailPoint Agentic Fabric will soon be complete. The integration includes Entro-powered credential lineage, exposed secret discovery, and prompt-intent monitoring into Agentic Fabric, extending governance to secrets and credentials that AI agents and NHIs depend on.

Availability
Capabilities across SailPoint Agentic Fabric, SailPoint Human Fabric, and SailPoint Atlas are rolling out globally beginning at Navigate 2026. A-ISPM, the Harbor Pilot Policy Agent, and the Proofpoint integration are expected in Q4 FY27.

New Success Acceleration service packages combine expert-led roadmaps, vertical-specific deployment accelerators, AI-driven risk reduction, and continuous compliance support to help customers reach zero standing privilege and realize value faster.
