CECP Reveals Companies With a Defined Purpose Deliver Higher Revenue, Growth, and Returns on Capital

NEW YORK, April 22, 2025 /3BL/ – Chief Executives for Corporate Purpose® (CECP) today released the 2025 edition of Corporate Purpose: Driving Business Value, finding that companies with a corporate purpose statement had 58% more revenue growth, and 63% higher returns on invested capital (ROIC) in 2023. While purpose-driven companies achieved 12% ROIC growth over the past five years, their counterparts experienced a 28% decline. And three-quarters (76%) of investors expect companies to define their corporate purpose with 93% believing purpose is essential to long-term business strategy and value creation.
Previously, Corporate Purpose: Driving Business Value was called Investing in Society. The renamed report reflects the increased urgency—and opportunity—for companies to quantify the value of their corporate purpose as a core business strategy in an era of rapid economic, cultural, and geopolitical change—including sustainability reporting, artificial intelligence (AI), and responsible resource use. Leveraging CECP’s research and insights from over 200 of the world’s leading companies, the report provides actionable insights, benchmarking data, and case studies for leaders looking to embed purpose into business strategy and unlock sustainable value.
“Companies that lead with purpose aren’t just doing good socially—they’re doing better economically,” said Jenna Moore, Senior Manager of Sustainable Business Insights, CECP. “This report clearly shows that purpose-driven strategies are delivering real business results across revenue, growth, and returns. Purpose is no longer a peripheral initiative or a nice-to-have—it’s a core element of business strategy that drives performance, builds resilience, serves as a North Star, and creates long-term value for stakeholders and society alike.”
Other key findings include:
- Responsible AI Adoption: While 67% of companies incorporated worker voice into AI adoption efforts, only 50 companies in the S&P Global 1200 reported having a formal AI ethics policy in place. Cybersecurity remained a focus, with 95% disclosing security risks and 77% maintaining risk management protocols.
- Evolving Non-Financial Reporting: More than half of Fortune 500 companies have established a Sustainability Controller. Finance teams are increasingly responsible for non-financial reporting, ensuring alignment with investor expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Biodiversity Reporting Slows: While biodiversity-related disclosures rose 10.8 percentage points between 2020 and 2021, growth slowed to 3.7 points between 2022 and 2023. Companiesheadquartered in North America lag global peers.
- Room for Improvement: Disclosure remains limited across key workforce and supply chain metrics. Only 15% of companies reported the percentage of minorities or people with disabilities in the workforce, and just 1% disclosed supplier audits in 2023.
The report summarizes these findings through a proprietary quantitative tool, the CECP Integrated Disclosure Scorecard. The scorecard measures how well companies in the S&P Global 1200 embrace principles of corporate purpose and long-term sustainable value creation. CECP breaks down each Key Performance Indicator and analyzes the four-year (FY 2019-2023), median performance on each metric, which is enhanced by CECP’s thought leadership and a review of sector-wide opinions and research. The study uses a five-year period to account for a pre-COVID-19 baseline.
The 2025 edition of Corporate Purpose: Driving Business Value is available for free on cecp.co. CECP-affiliated companies have access to fast-track consulting and benchmarking with this data. Corporate leaders use benchmarking to monitor their year-over-year performance on key metrics, draw comparisons against competitors, or advocate for budget adjustments.

Elanco’s Breakthrough Treatment for Deadly Canine Parvovirus Has Saved Thousands of Puppies, Reaffirms Commitment to Increasing the Availability of Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody for Second Annual National Parvo Awareness Day
- National Parvo Awareness Day raises awareness of canine parvovirus (parvo), the often-fatal puppy disease.
- Elanco’s Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (CPMA) is the first-and-only USDA conditionally approved treatment for parvo.
- Puppies treated with CPMA had a 93% survival rate and returned home an average of 1.87 days sooner.[1],[2]
- Elanco’s ParvoTrack, the first-ever national online parvo tracking tool, allows pet owners and veterinarians to self-report outbreaks in real time, further highlighting the need for CPMA across the country and reinforcing Elanco’s commitment to increasing the availability of CPMA.
- Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana and New York have some of the highest reported cases of canine parvovirus outbreaks according to ParvoTrack.
GREENFIELD, Ind., April 22, 2025 /3BL/ – Elanco Animal Health Incorporated (NYSE: ELAN) today recognizes the second annual National Parvo Awareness Day, aimed at increasing awareness of canine parvovirus, a highly contagious and often-fatal puppy disease. Since receiving conditional approval from the USDA, Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (CPMA) has helped save thousands of puppies.[3] Although parvovirus can strike anytime, late spring and summer months are the most common for outbreaks nationwide.
“Parvo is a devastating disease that not only impacts our pets, but takes an emotional toll on pet owners, veterinarians and animal health experts,” said Dr. Chris George, veterinarian and infectious disease expert at Elanco Animal Health. “Without supportive care, parvo has a 91% mortality rate.[4] However, there’s a treatment beyond just supportive care – Elanco’s CPMA which can help defend puppies and defeat parvo. In real-world usage, 93% of parvo-infected puppies treated with CPMA survived.[1] Additionally, parvo patients treated with CPMA spend an average of 1.87 less days in the hospital, helping to relieve the emotional toll on treating veterinary staff and getting pets back with their families. CPMA is changing the way we treat parvo and is helping save puppies across the country.”[2]
Elanco’s mission to save 1 million puppies from parvovirus by 2030
“Making CPMA widely available is crucial in our fight against this devastating virus, including in shelter environments where resources are often strained,” said Bobby Modi, Executive Vice President, U.S. Pet Health. “Elanco is focused on increasing access to this life-saving treatment, and we’ve saved thousands of puppies in the first year[3] – but we need help from every clinic around the country to reach our mission of saving 1 million puppies from parvovirus by 2030. We believe every clinic and shelter should experience the power of CPMA firsthand, so we encourage clinics who haven’t tried it to learn more about how they can save their first parvo puppy using CPMA.”
Last year, Elanco launched ParvoTrack as the first-ever real-time online parvo tracking tool, empowering pet owners and the veterinary community with innovative intelligence to help notify them of parvo outbreaks in their communities. Visitors to the site can self-report and identify parvo outbreak areas, with a few simple steps, as well as sign up for parvo outbreak alerts in their area. Since launching ParvoTrack last year, thousands of parvo cases have been reported nationwide, with over 7,000 pet owners and veterinarians signing up to receive alerts with outbreaks in their area. ParvoTrack updates in real time and displays data from the past 12 months. Parvo outbreaks have occurred in every state with Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana and New York having some of the highest reported cases of canine parvovirus outbreaks.
“Every clinic and every shelter should have CPMA readily available.”
“We’ve been treating parvo since early 2020 and it can be an absolutely devasting disease that weighs heavily on the staff,” said Dr. Meghan Herron, Senior Director of Behavior, Research, and Education at Gigi’s, an Ohio-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of shelter dogs. “Now that we have CPMA on board, everyone’s attitudes have changed. We no longer must fear a parvo outbreak because we have a treatment on hand that reduces hospitalization time and has a 93% survival rate. Every clinic and every shelter should have CPMA readily available.”
Survivor Stories
Here are just a few of the faces that fully recovered from parvovirus after receiving lifesaving CPMA treatment.
Cookie, an 8-week-old pitbull mix puppy from California, was the first puppy to be treated with CPMA.
Dolly, an 8-week-old mixed breed puppy from Sugar Land, Texas received CPMA at the First Colony Veterinary Clinic.
Patrick, a 10-week-old terrier mix from Valley Stream, New York spent two days at BARRK Animal Rescue after being treated with CPMA.
Beatrix, a 3-month-old dalmatian from Glendale, Arizona .
Buster, a 12-week-old mixed breed from Waynesboro, Georgia spent four days in the Burke County Animal Hospital.
Luna, a 10-week-old rat terrier from St. Petersburg, Florida was given CPMA and after receiving the treatment, was eating, gaining weight and steadily improving. Two days later, she made a full recovery.
Similarly, Mono, a 2-month-old mixed breed who arrived at Paws Chicago after staff was told he required immediate help or face euthanasia; Mono tested positive for parvo and immediately received CPMA. Three days post-treatment, he was up running around.

Local Agencies Condemn IEUA’s Rushed Rate Hike Vote, Cite Lack of Transparency and Accountability
ONTARIO, Calif., April 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a stunning disregard for public opposition and local economic realities, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) voted unanimously last Wednesday to approve an 18% rate hike, spread over two years, despite clear opposition from multiple member agencies, concerns from the public, calls for more transparency, and requests for more time to study the matter.
In a joint statement, local agency leaders for Chino, Montclair, Monte Vista Water District, and Ontario called IEUA’s vote “deeply disappointing and procedurally flawed,” pointing to the agency’s refusal to grant additional time for review, or to meaningfully collaborate with the cities and agencies most impacted.
“This wasn’t collaboration—it was a box-checking exercise,” said Chino Mayor Eunice Ulloa. “IEUA mischaracterized the process as thorough, while withholding key documents and dismissing any agency or person who raised concerns. Even the rate study that underpins this decision was withheld until the legal deadline, leaving no time for cities or residents to evaluate its assumptions or implications. Public governance requires more than legal compliance—it demands transparency, accountability, and respect.”
Despite multiple comment letters in opposition to the rate hike, and a clear absence of support from IEUA’s own Policy Committee and Technical Advisory Committee, the IEUA Board voted unanimously to adopt the increase. Member agencies had requested additional time to review the proposed rates, but IEUA justified the denial by citing the internal timelines of one or two agencies—despite having approved past rate increases as late as July.
At the center of the controversy is IEUA’s Chino Basin Program (CBP), a massive recycled water treatment project that promises to transfer up to 100% of its yield to the State of California while local communities like Chino, Montclair, and Ontario continue to struggle with water reliability and affordability.
“IEUA has chosen to ignore the voices of the very people it was created to serve,” said Ontario City Councilmember Debra Porada. “This rate hike is not about local water reliability; it is about funding a billion-dollar project that sends our water to the State while our communities get stuck with the bill.“
IEUA Board members also made several disparaging public comments during the meeting, with one member saying, “It’s not a whole heck of a lot of money, and people are going to be able to eat.” The Board member went on to disdain those without technical backgrounds as unqualified to question the agency’s decisions.
“This kind of dismissive attitude toward public input is unacceptable,” said Monte Vista Water District Board President Sandra S. Rose. “These decisions affect real families, and agencies should be equal partners in regional infrastructure planning.”
Adding to concerns is IEUA’s shifting rationale for how it is using public funds—particularly property taxes. Historically, IEUA has dedicated a portion of property tax revenues to specific purposes, like wastewater treatment. Now, without notice or clarity, those funds are being reframed as general reserves available for any use, effectively bypassing cost-of-service nexus requirements that protect ratepayers from unjustified charges.
“This behavior is exactly why IEUA is facing growing legal scrutiny,” said Montclair Mayor Javier “John” Dutrey. “You cannot run a public agency this way—with closed-door decisions, misleading public statements, and a blatant disregard for accountability.”
The four agencies continue to advocate for investments in local recycled water infrastructure that would deliver drought-resilient, cost-effective water for the communities they serve. To date, IEUA has not released sufficient information on the future capital investments, debt obligations, or rate impacts associated with the CBP.
A joint letter from these cities was submitted on March 28 requesting clarity on how ratepayer and taxpayer dollars would be used. IEUA has not responded.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed, speak up, and continue to hold regional agencies accountable. For more information, visit: www.ontarioca.gov/government/municipal-utilities-company

Birmingham Zoo Receives Four Furry Deliveries With Help From FedEx
The Birmingham Zoo welcomed a new resident to its freshly completed Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing habitat. A female orphaned cougar cub from Montana arrived safely at the zoo on Tuesday, February 11, marking a significant milestone ahead of the habitat’s mid-March opening.
The transport of the cub was a collaborative effort involving the Birmingham Zoo, FedEx, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The young cougar, named Juniper, estimated to be four to five months old and weighing between 30 and 40 pounds, traveled by plane from Great Falls, Montana, to Memphis, Tennessee. From there, she was transported by the Birmingham Zoo to her new home.
Chris Pfefferkorn, President and CEO of the Birmingham Zoo, expressed his excitement about the new addition, stating, “The arrival of this first cub is a major step towards us opening the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing in mid-March. This project has been years in the making, and it’s truly heartwarming to see the community come together to make it a reality.”
Heather Harshbarger, communications advisor for FedEx Cares, highlighted the company’s commitment to animal welfare, stating, “FedEx has a long history of working closely with zoos and aquariums to provide safe travel for animals using our extensive global transportation network and logistical expertise. We are proud to donate the cost of this mountain lion cub delivery.”
The Birmingham Zoo staff worked diligently to help Juniper acclimate to her new surroundings and plans were underway to find another orphaned cub around her age to join her in the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing habitat. This effort aimed to provide companionship and enrichment for the young cougar.
Shortly after Juniper’s arrival, the zoo also welcomed two new bobcats, Baxter and Boomer, transported by FedEx from the San Diego Humane Society. These seven-year-old bobcats arrived on March 7 and quickly adjusted to their new home. Baxter and Boomer’s arrival further enriched the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing habitat, showcasing the zoo’s commitment to providing a safe and enriching environment for all its animals.
The last of the four residents, Spruce, another orphaned cougar cub, was one of three siblings rescued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and cared for at the Oakland Zoo. After their mother was killed by a car, the cubs were found in Portola Valley. Spruce, also transported by FedEx, was chosen to join Juniper at the Birmingham Zoo. The hope is for them to become best friends like Baxter and Boomer.
As the Birmingham Zoo celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025, the opening of the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing on March 19 marked a significant milestone in its history. The new habitat stands as a symbol of hope, community effort, and the zoo’s dedication to animal care and conservation. Zoo visitors will learn about the important conservation efforts behind these beautiful animals.
FedEx donated the transportation costs for the cougar cubs and bobcats as part of the company’s FedEx Cares “Delivering for Good” initiative, in which FedEx lends its global network and unparalleled logistics expertise to organizations with precious cargo requests and helps communities before, during, and after crises.
