Eaton Opens New Manufacturing Base in Finland To Meet Growing Demand for Its EnergyAware Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems
HELSINKI, Finland, May 28, 2024 /3BL/ – Eaton, the intelligent power management company, has opened a new state-of-the-art campus in Helsinki to boost its capacity to manufacture and supply Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, including its latest product, the Eaton 9395X.
Eaton is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of three-phase UPS systems and the company’s investment in its new Helsinki campus is driven by strong growth in its business. UPS systems are in high demand, particularly in the data centre sector where the heavy processing requirements of AI applications and digital data management make continuous power supply vital, and the need for expansion likely. UPS systems are also used extensively in commercial and industrial buildings and within the healthcare sector to protect against supply interruptions or voltage fluctuations.
The new Eaton 9395X occupies a footprint up to 30% smaller than similar UPS models, which is clearly a benefit in a data center expansion scenario. The 9395X which is based on silicon carbide converters is also more energy efficient, and equipped with Eaton’s proprietary EnergyAware technology, which prioritises system continuity yet supports the provision of demand response services to national grids.
Dr Karina Rigby, president, Critical Systems, Electrical Sector, EMEA, Eaton, said: “EnergyAware makes it possible for businesses, especially data centres, to sell flexibility services to the grid – an attractive revenue source which also delivers considerable sustainability benefit. This is because flexibility helps grid operators to bring more renewable energy on to the grid, thus offsetting the carbon impact of the flexibility provider. Supporting the energy transition in this way helps bridge the flexibility gap between the amount of variable renewable energy needed, and the corresponding flexibility required to balance it.”
Philippe Perrot, business unit general manager, Critical Power Solutions, Electrical Sector, EMEA, Eaton, further explained the rationale for the new campus: “Our business is growing so fast that we had outgrown our existing factory in the Helsinki region. Our new site is much bigger and designed to support outstanding customer experience. It will supply UPS systems primarily for data centres, but also for healthcare, commercial and marine sector applications, and introduce customers to the benefits of our associated low voltage product portfolio. In fact, we are already working toward expanding in Helsinki. We will grow the existing 390-strong workforce with the addition of at least 100 new employees.”
Petri Koskinen, plant manager, Helsinki, Finland, will oversee much of the continuing growth: “This is an exciting place to work for professionals in the critical power arena.” he said: “We have a rich knowledge base in Helsinki, having manufactured UPS and power conversion technology here since 1962, and we will build on that heritage. The sustainability credentials of our campus are notable, with the energy efficiency features of the building and its operation designed to be leading edge and ISO 50001 compliant.”
Eaton is an intelligent power management company dedicated to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life for people everywhere. We make products for the data center, utility, industrial, commercial, machine building, residential, aerospace and mobility markets. We are guided by our commitment to do business right, to operate sustainably and to help our customers manage power ─ today and well into the future. By capitalizing on the global growth trends of electrification and digitalization, we’re accelerating the planet’s transition to renewable energy sources, helping to solve the world’s most urgent power management challenges, and building a more sustainable society for people today and generations to come.
Eaton was founded in 1911 and has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange for more than a century. We reported revenues of $23.2 billion in 2023 and serve customers in more than 160 countries. For more information, visit www.eaton.com. Follow us on LinkedIn.

Gen Releases 2024 Social Impact Report
WRITTEN BY Kim Allman Head of Corporate Responsibility and Public Policy
We released our 2024 Social Impact Report, our latest record of the ways we bring together our team, passions and technology to support people and communities all over the world.
Year in and year out, we see the real, positive impacts that our efforts make possible: our education and training programs provide Cyber Safety skills and tools to the people who need them most, our work with key partners makes the cybersecurity field more equitable and inclusive, and our team members consistently devote their time, energy and expertise to the causes that matter to them.
A core belief in our ability to make the world a better, safer place is at the heart of everything we do at Gen. In that spirit, we’re excited to share just a few highlights from our social impact programs, which we discuss in-depth in the report.
Cyber Safety education and training
In 2024, we reached more than 5.3 million people with Cyber Safety awareness and training, equipping youth, educators, families and vulnerable people with the skills they need to navigate their digital lives safely and with more confidence. For example, our work with Discovery Education provides educators in grades 3-8 with lesson plans that build safe and healthy digital habits.
We also donated Cyber Safety products to more than 9,750 nonprofits, protecting data for institutions that serve critical community functions. We worked with TechSoup and the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) to pilot a product donation program that provides survivors of domestic violence with free Norton products that help prevent technology-facilitated abuse.
Our culture of giving
55% of Gen team members participated in our Giving@Gen programs in 2024. That’s 30% higher than the Benevity industry benchmark, and it surpasses our internal goal of 40% participation. Our first Global Volunteer Week gathered more than 500 Gen team members for 1,300 hours of service.
Diversifying the tech workforce
Women are chronically underrepresented in technology and cybersecurity fields. That’s why we work with organizations like Czechitas, Women4Cyber (W4C) and nasscom foundation to provide women across Europe and India with skills training and career mentorship, setting them up for sustained success as they progress in these industries. In 2024, we posted nearly 200 job openings through Czechitas, W4C and other partners.
Doing our part to protect the planet
In 2024, we are proud to have achieved a 22% decrease in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions through the consolidation of facilities and data centers, internal efficiencies and continued environmental initiatives. We deliver 98% of our products digitally, and less than 0.5% of the materials used in our global physical products contain plastic. Additionally, our Sustainable Home Improvement Program helped Gen team members complete 1,000 projects that made their homes more environmentally friendly.
At Gen, our social impact efforts are embedded into what we offer as a company and help us make the digital world a safer place for everyone. Our teams are driving real impact around the world, and we invite you to read more in our 2024 Social Impact Report.
