MT Højgaard Holding’s business unit Enemærke & Petersen has been awarded the order for an extensive refurbishment of the Taastrupgaard housing complex in Taastrup. The project will be carried out under a general contract for the housing association AKB Taastrup, which is managed by KAB.
The final contract is expected to be signed on 15 October, following expiration of the standstill period, and will be conditional upon obtaining schedule B approval from Høje-Taastrup Municipality. The contract covers phase 2 of the area’s master plan as well as an option for phase 3, which is expected to be contracted during 2028-29. Combined, the two phases involve work valued at DKK 665 million.
The refurbishment follows the “Fremtidens Taastrupgaard” master plan, which is supported by the Danish Building Fund. The master plan aims to significantly improve the quality of the neighborhood and the homes, while meeting the requirements of the Danish Parliament’s “Parallel Society Package” regarding the creation of mixed urban and residential areas with a wider range of services. The first phase of the master plan has already been completed; phases 2 and 3 entail a comprehensive refurbishment of 19 residential blocks comprising a total of 522 homes, along with landscaping and paving work.
As part of the refurbishment, two blocks will be demolished and 102 homes abolished, while several of the remaining homes will be converted into new housing types such as youth housing, accessible housing, and “drive-in” housing, and some homes will be merged. The facades of the blocks will be replaced or retrofitted with additional insulation, and new heating and ventilation systems, electrical installations, balconies, floors, and kitchens will be installed.
Work will commence in the first quarter of 2027 and be completed in the first quarter of 2030. Phase 2 involves 301 housing units, which will be reduced to 214. Phase 3 involves 221 units, which will be reduced to 183.
“We look forward to collaborating with AKB Taastrup, KAB, and the developer’s advisers to future-proof Taastrupgaard in one joint project team focused on progress, quality, and handover by block to minimise inconvenience for residents. We have a solid plan that we look forward to realising in close dialogue with the residents and their representatives,” says Kim Thinggaard, CEO of Enemærke & Petersen.
The contract has no impact on MT Højgaard Holding’s expectations for 2026, but it confirms Enemærke & Petersen’s market-leading position in the refurbishment and transformation of social housing, among other things through multi-year construction partnerships with KAB and Civica. Enemærke & Petersen is currently engaged in more than 25 housing refurbishment projects.
